Radiofrequency ablation(RFA), as a form of minimally invasive therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma, has become an important treatment modality. Because of limitation of surgery, RFA has become standard therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma in some situations. But there are some complications of RFA such as bleeding, infection, hematoma, adjacent organ thermal damage including intestinal perforation, needle track seeding, and so on. There are few reports in the literature that systematically evaluate the incidence of needle tract seeding and its associated risk factors. And only 2 cases of needle tract seeding of hepatocellular carcinoma after RFA were reported in Korea. We report a case of needle tract seeding of hepatocellular carcinoma after RFA.

<P>Thermogelling block copolymers are central to a variety of biomedical applications. Here, we examined the thermal phase transition behavior of the MPEG-<I>b</I>-PCL diblock copolymer (MC) with carboxyl (MC–COOH) and amine (MC–NH<SUB>2</SUB>) groups, and their salt forms (MC–COO<SUP>−</SUP>Na<SUP>+</SUP> and MC–NH<SUB>3</SUB><SUP>+</SUP>Cl<SUP>−</SUP>) at the chain ends of the PCL segment. All MC copolymers formed an opaque emulsion sol at room temperature when prepared as 20 wt% aqueous solutions. As the temperature increased from room temperature, a sol-to-gel transition was observed for MC, MC–COOH, and MC–NH<SUB>2</SUB> copolymers, although not for their salt forms (MC–COO<SUP>−</SUP>Na<SUP>+</SUP> and MC–NH<SUB>3</SUB><SUP>+</SUP>Cl<SUP>−</SUP>). Introduction of a carboxyl and an amine group into the PCL segment decreased the crystallinity and hydrophobicity of the PCL block domains, which altered the onset temperature of gelation (the gel temperature range) and the maximum viscosity. We confirmed that the sol-to-gel phase transition behavior, which indicated the formation and destruction of a structured gel network of MC copolymers, depended on the crystallinity and hydrophobicity of the PCL domains in aqueous media.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>In this work, we showed that the formation and destruction of a structured gel network of thermogelling block copolymers (MC, MC–COOH and MC–COO<SUP>−</SUP>Na<SUP>+</SUP>) depended on the crystallinity and hydrophobicity of the hydrophobic domains in aqueous media. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c1sm05977g'> </P>

민간요법 중에서 비만 치료에 사용되는 4종의 식물인 지유, 옥발, 적하수오 및 삼백초를 동량으로 혼합하여 10배의 물을 사용하여 가열추출 후 감압농축 하여 HEM을 조제하였고, 이렇게 조제된 HEM을 사용하여 0~100 ㎍/mL 농도로 3T3-L1의 지방축적 억제율을 측정한 결과 농도가 증가함에 따라 유의적으로 증가하였으며, 동일 농도에서 세포독성은 없었다. 또한 지방 축적에 관여하는 효소인 GPDH의 활성을 억제함으로써 세포내 지방이 축적되는 것을 억제하였다. 5주간의 동물실험 결과 대조군과 비교하여 HEM1과 HEM2군 모두 체중 변화와 식이효율이 줄어드는 것으로 나타났으며, 혈액 분석에서 HEM군은 혈중 중성지방과 총콜레스테롤에 효과를 보이지 않았다. 해부학적인 측면에서 부고환 및 신장 주위의 지방무게와 간 무게 또한 낮았다. 이러한 결과를 통해, 본 실험에서 사용한 생약복합물은 항비만 소재로써 체지방 축적억제에 효과성이 있음을 확인하였다. In this study, we investigated the anti-obesity activity of the herbal extract mixture (HEM). The inhibitory effect of HEM on triglyceride accumulation of 3T3-L1 preadipocyte was examined by Oil-Red O staining. HEM inhibited the triglyceride accumulation of 3T3-L1 preadipocyte cell and reduced glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPDH) activity. We further investigated the effect of HEM in prevention of obesity in male ICR mouse for 5 weeks. Experimental groups were divided into high fat diet group (HFD), HFD supplemented with 100 ㎎/㎏ HEM group (HEM1) and HFD supplemented with 200 ㎎/㎏ HEM group (HEM2). Body weight and food efficiency ration of HEM1 and HEM2 was decreased by 52% and 50% and by 45% and 50%, respectively. The amount of adipocyte in body weight was decreased. Blood triglyceride and total cholesterol of HEM1 was significantly decreased. These results indicate that HEM may be useful in preventing obesity.
Recurrent Painful Ophthalmoplegic Neuropathy: a Case Report

Upon review, it is noted that recurrent painful ophthalmoplegic neuropathy (RPON) is a rare neurological syndrome characterized by recurrent unilateral headaches and painful ophthalmoplegia of the ipsilateral oculomotor nerve. As seen on brain MRI, thickening and enhancement of the oculomotor cranial nerve can be observed in these cases. We experienced a case of RPON in an adult patient who showed thickening and enhancement of the oculomotor nerve on gadolinium-enhanced 3D-FLAIR image. The authors report a case of RPON with a review of the literature.

The effect of dopants, Al₂O₃, K₂O and SiO₂ (AKS), on the microstructure of tungsten ingots and wires has been investigated. It was found that rapidly heated ingots showed finer grain size with low degree of sintering than slowly heated ingots. The AKS doped ingot showed the lowest degree of sintering whereas the KS doped ingot showed the highest. Secondary recrystallized grain structure was closely related with bubbles formed in the drawn wire. The AKS wire showed the highest bubble density whereas KS showed the lowest. As density of bubble increased, the secondary recrystallization temperature of the wire also became increased.
Experimental and Theoretical Study on H2/CO2 Separation by a Five - Step one - Column PSA Process

An experimental and theoretical study is performed fur bulk separation of H₂/CO₂, mixture (70/30 volume%) by PSA process with zeolite 5A, a process widely used commercially in conjunction with the catalytic steam reforming of natural gas or naphtha. For the optimied adsorption condition, of PSA the haracteristics of adsorption/desorption characteristics have been studied through breakthrough and tlesorption experiments under various conditions. The purge-to-feed ratio is important to the H₂ product purity only at a long adsorption step time. H₂ could be concentrated from 70% in the feed to, 99.99% at H₂ recovery of 67.5%. The results of all five steps in PSA are uceessfully predicted at the LDF model considering an energy balance and nonlinear isotherm. For the nulel, the effective diffusivities (D) are obtained separately from the uptake curves of H₂ and CO₂. The Lanuir-hreundlich isotherm is used to correlate the experimental equilibrium data and is very well fitted to the results.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) causes major economic losses in the swine industry worldwide. Vaccination is the most effective method to control the disease. In a previous study, a chimeric PRRSV named as K418 which had a genome composed of ORF 1 from the FL12 strain and ORF 2-7 from the Korean representative LMY strain was created. We constructed K418DM, K418 with deglycosylated glycoprotein 5 (GP5), to improve its humoral immunity. In the follow-up on <I>in vivo</I> and <I>in vitro</I> virological and serological tests, no back mutation in amino acids of GP5 associated with deglycosylation was shown after 9 passages on MARC-145 cells, whereas only one case of back mutation was detected after single passage in pig. In serological study, K418DM induced higher serum neutralization (SN) antibody and more limited viremia compared with those of K418 virus. In clinical trial and economic analysis, the K418DM elicited SN antibody titers and PRRSV-specific IgG over protection limit. From the economic viewpoint, there was statistically significant reduction in percentage of weak pigs. These results indicated that vaccination with the K418DM may provide enhanced protection for pigs in PRRS endemic situation and increase growth performance in commercial pig farms.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> K418DM is a chimeric PRRS virus with enhanced humoral immunogenicity. </LI> <LI> The possibility of back mutation of GP5 glycosylation sites is low. </LI> <LI> K418DM reduces percentage of weak pigs at commercial farm level. </LI> </UL> </P>
