성인학습자의 학습자특성과 교육기관특성이 평생교육 참여성과에 미치는 영향 : 참여동기 및 학습만족수준의 매개효과 = The influence of character of adult learners and educational institution on participation in lifelong education : Mediator effect of participation motivation and learning satisfaction

성인학습자의 학습자특성과 교육기관특성이 평생교육 참여성과에 미치는 영향:참여동기 및 학습만족수준의 매개효과

The Influence of Character of Adult Learners and Educational Institution on Participation in Lifelong Education: Mediator Effect of Participation Motivation and Learning Satisfaction

본 연구는 평생교육에 참여하는 성인학습자의 학습자특성과 교육기관특성을 알아보고 참여동기와 학습만족수준이 참여성과에 미치는 매개효과를 살펴보는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 평생교육에 참여하는 성인학습자들의 참여성과를 분석하기 위한 관련변인으로 학습자특성, 교육기관특성, 참여동기, 학습만족수준을 잠재변인으로 설정하고 잠재변인을 측정하기 위해 13개의 측정변인을 구성하였다. 외생변인은 학습자특성, 교육기관특성으로, 매개변인은 참여동기, 학습만족수준으로 설정하였다. 잠재변인을 측정하기 위한 각각의 측정변인들로 학습자특성은 학습가치, 학습효능감, 학습애착으로 구성하였고, 교육기관특성은 교육기관만족과 프로그램만족, 참여동기는 활동지향, 학습지향, 목표지향, 학습만족수준은 교육내용, 교육방법, 교육환경, 교육시설, 교육담당자로 구성하였다.
본 연구에서는 지역구, 평생교육기관 유형, 프로그램 등록 인원을 고려하여 3단계 유층화 집락표집방법을 통해 36개 기관의 평생학습 프로그램에 참여하고 있는 성인학습자를 대상으로 규모비례확률표집법을 적용하였다. 조사에 사용된 설문지는 예비조사를 통해 신뢰도와 타당도를 검증하였고, 자료수집은 직접 방문하여 실시하였으며 최종적으로 925부가 분석에 이용되었다. 수집된 자료의 기술적 통계와 상관분석은 SPSS Win 20.0 프로그램을 이용하여 신뢰계수, ANOVA, Pearson 적률상관계수, 다중회귀분석, 경로분석, Sobel 검증을 사용하였다.
본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 연구결과는 다음과 같이 요약될 수 있다.
첫째, 성인학습자의 평생교육 참여동기와 학습만족수준이 개인적 특성에 따라 어떠한 차이를 보이는지 분석한 결과, 여성 성인학습자가 남성 성인학습자보다 평생교육에 더 많이 참여하는 것으로 나타났고 이는 직업부분에서도 다소 시간적 여유가 많은 전업주부가 평생교육에 참여하는 경향이 높다는 연구결과와 연계하여 살펴볼 수 있다. 그리고 평생교육에 참여하는 기간으로 3개월 이상, 일반 평생교육-교양, 여가선용이 높게 나타났는데 이는 현재 학습하는 참여자로서의 만족감과 새로운 지식이나 기술을 익히는 그 자체에 중요함을 느끼는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또 평생교육 참여장소로 주민자치센터가 많은 부분을 차지하는 것은 교육기관과의 접근성 때문이다.
둘째, 성인학습자의 학습자특성, 교육기관특성, 참여동기, 학습만족수준은 평생교육 참여성과에 의미 있는 영향력을 가지는지 분석한 결과 통계적으로 유의한 8개 변수들 가운데 종속변수인 참여성과에 영향력을 가장 많이 미칠 수 있는 변수는 참여동기 하위변인인 활동지향으로 나타났고, 그 다음으로 목표지향, 교육내용 만족도 순으로 나타났다. 즉, 이는 성인학습자의 평생교육 참여성과에 큰 영향을 미치는 명시적인 활동지향적 참여동기가 형성되도록 성인학습자를 독려, 지도하는 일이 중요함을 시사한다.
셋째, 성인학습자의 참여동기와 학습만족수준은 평생교육 학습자특성 및 교육기관특성과 참여성과와의 관계에서 매개효과를 가지는가를 분석한 결과 매개변인인 참여동기 및 학습만족수준은 학습자특성과 교육기관특성이 성인학습자의 평생교육 참여성과에 간접적인 영향을 미칠 수 있도록 매개적 역할을 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이를 종합해 볼 때, 학습자가 학습에 대해 스스로 가치를 부여하고 학습에 흥미를 가지며 자신의 학습에 대한 능력을 좋게 평가할 때, 그리고 교육기관에서의 학문적 경험이나 사회적 경험이 좋을 때에 학습자 참여동기가 높고 학습만족이 높게 나타나는 것으로 확인되었다.
결론적으로 본 연구결과를 통해 성인학습자를 평생학습으로 이끌고 그들이 지속가능한 평생학습자로 발전해 갈 수 있도록 돕기 위해서는 학습자 내적인 학습특성과 학습자 외적인 환경 및 평생학습활동이 이루어지는 평생교육기관과 관련된 환경요인까지 고려한 통합적인 지원정책을 세워야 함을 시사한다.
이상의 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 성인학습자를 평생교육으로 이끌고 참여를 독려할 수 있도록 몇 가지 제언하고자 한다.
첫째, 성인학습자의 학습만족수준을 향상 시킬 수 있도록 평생교육기관의 질적관리가 필요하다. 둘째, 성인학습자의 참여동기를 향상할 수 있는 활동, 학습, 목표를 지향하는 다양한 프로그램과 참여성과에 대한 만족을 누릴 수 있는 방안이 필요하다. 셋째, 성인학습자가 인적네트워크를 활성화 할 수 있도록 평생교육기관이 정보교류의 장을 형성하는 방안이 필요하다. 넷째, 평생교육은 지역사회가 중심이 되어 학습공동체 형성을 이루어야 한다.
