A Multimodal Fusion Method Based on a Rotation Invariant Hierarchical Model for Finger-based Recognition

( Zhen Zhong ),( Wanlin Gao ),( Minjuan Wang ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2021 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.15 No.1

Multimodal biometric-based recognition has been an active topic because of its higher convenience in recent years. Due to high user convenience of finger, finger-based personal identification has been widely used in practice. Hence, taking Finger-Print (FP), Finger-Vein (FV) and Finger-Knuckle-Print (FKP) as the ingredients of characteristic, their feature representation were helpful for improving the universality and reliability in identification. To usefully fuse the multimodal finger-features together, a new robust representation algorithm was proposed based on hierarchical model. Firstly, to obtain more robust features, the feature maps were obtained by Gabor magnitude feature coding and then described by Local Binary Pattern (LBP). Secondly, the LGBP-based feature maps were processed hierarchically in bottom-up mode by variable rectangle and circle granules, respectively. Finally, the intension of each granule was represented by Local-invariant Gray Features (LGFs) and called Hierarchical Local-Gabor-based Gray Invariant Features (HLGGIFs). Experiment results revealed that the proposed algorithm is capable of improving rotation variation of finger-pose, and achieving lower Equal Error Rate (EER) in our homemade database.

Isolation of Probiotic Piliated Lactobacillus rhamnosus Strains from Human Fecal Microbiota Using SpaA Antiserum-Based Colony Immunoblotting

        ( Zhen-quan Yang ),( Yu Xue ),( Sheng-qi Rao ),( Mi Zhang ),( Lu Gao ),( Yong-qi Yin ),( Da-wei Chen ),( Xiao-hui Zhou ),( Xin-an Jiao ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2017 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.27 No.11

Piliated Lactobacillus rhamnosus (pLR) strains possess higher adherent capacity than non-piliated strains. The objective of this study was to isolate and characterize probiotic pLR strains in human fecal samples. To this end, mouse polyclonal antiserum (anti-SpaA) against the recombinant pilus protein (SpaA) of L. rhamnosus strain GG (LGG) was prepared and tested for its reactivity and specificity. With the anti-SpaA, a method combining the de Man, Rogosa, and Sharpe (MRS) agar plating separation and colony immunoblotting (CIB) was developed to isolate pLR from 124 human fecal samples. The genetic and phenotypic characteristics of the resultant pLR isolates were compared by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting, and examination of adhesion to Caco-2 cells, hydrophobicity, autoaggregation, and in vitro gastrointestinal tolerance. Anti-SpaA specifically reacted with three pLR strains of 25 test strains, as assessed by western blotting, immunofluorescence flow cytometry, and immunoelectron microscopy (IEM) assays. The optimized MRS agar separation plus anti- SpaA-based CIB procedure could quantitatively detect 2.5 × 103 CFU/ml of pLR colonies spiked in 106 CFU/ml of background bacteria. Eight pLR strains were identified in 124 human fecal samples, and were confirmed by 16S RNA gene sequencing and IEM identification. RAPD fingerprinting of the pLR strains revealed seven different patterns, of which only two isolates from infants showed the same RAPD profiles with LGG. Strain PLR06 was obtained with high adhesion and autoaggregation activities, hydrophobicity, and gastrointestinal tolerance. Anti-SpaA-based CIB is a rapid and inexpensive method for the preliminary screening of novel adherent L. rhamnosus strains for commercial purposes.

      • Structured Compressive Sensing-Based Spatio-Temporal Joint Channel Estimation for FDD Massive MIMO

        Zhen Gao,Linglong Dai,Wei Dai,Byonghyo Shim,Zhaocheng Wang IEEE 2016 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS Vol.64 No.2

<P>Massive MIMO is a promising technique for future 5G communications due to its high spectrum and energy efficiency. To realize its potential performance gain, accurate channel estimation is essential. However, due to massive number of antennas at the base station (BS), the pilot overhead required by conventional channel estimation schemes will be unaffordable, especially for frequency division duplex (FDD) massive MIMO. To overcome this problem, we propose a structured compressive sensing (SCS)-based spatio-temporal joint channel estimation scheme to reduce the required pilot overhead, whereby the spatio-temporal common sparsity of delay-domain MIMO channels is leveraged. Particularly, we first propose the nonorthogonal pilots at the BS under the framework of CS theory to reduce the required pilot overhead. Then, an adaptive structured subspace pursuit (ASSP) algorithm at the user is proposed to jointly estimate channels associated with multiple OFDM symbols from the limited number of pilots, whereby the spatio-temporal common sparsity of MIMO channels is exploited to improve the channel estimation accuracy. Moreover, by exploiting the temporal channel correlation, we propose a space-time adaptive pilot scheme to further reduce the pilot overhead. Additionally, we discuss the proposed channel estimation scheme in multicell scenario. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can accurately estimate channels with the reduced pilot overhead, and it is capable of approaching the optimal oracle least squares estimator.</P>

A multisource image fusion method for multimodal pig-body feature detection

( Zhen Zhong ),( Minjuan Wang ),( Andwanlin Gao ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.11

The multisource image fusion has become an active topic in the last few years owing to its higher segmentation rate. To enhance the accuracy of multimodal pig-body feature segmentation, a multisource image fusion method was employed. Nevertheless, the conventional multisource image fusion methods can not extract superior contrast and abundant details of fused image. To superior segment shape feature and detect temperature feature, a new multisource image fusion method was presented and entitled as NSST-GF-IPCNN. Firstly, the multisource images were resolved into a range of multiscale and multidirectional subbands by Nonsubsampled Shearlet Transform (NSST). Then, to superior describe fine-scale texture and edge information, even-symmetrical Gabor filter and Improved Pulse Coupled Neural Network (IPCNN) were used to fuse low and high-frequency subbands, respectively. Next, the fused coefficients were reconstructed into a fusion image using inverse NSST. Finally, the shape feature was extracted using automatic threshold algorithm and optimized using morphological operation. Nevertheless, the highest temperature of pig-body was gained in view of segmentation results. Experiments revealed that the presented fusion algorithm was able to realize 2.102-4.066% higher average accuracy rate than the traditional algorithms and also enhanced efficiency.

        Zhen Li,Yilong Gao,Jianxiang Wu,Wei Zhang,Yueyue Tan,Bohejin Tang 대한금속·재료학회 2016 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.12 No.5

Ni-B/Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks-8 (Ni-B/ZIF-8) is synthesizedvia a series of solvothermal, incipient wetness impregnation andchemical reduction methods. The ZIF-8 serves as the host for thegrowth of Ni-B forming a Ni-B/ZIF-8 composite. Characterizationby X-ray diffraction and Transmission electron microscope revealsthe dispersion of Ni-B in ZIF-8. As electrode materials forsupercapacitors, ZIF-8, Ni-B and Ni-B/ZIF-8 electrodes exhibitspecific capacitances of 147, 563 and 866 F g−1, respectively at ascan rate of 5 mV s−1 and good stability over 500 cycles. Inparticular, Ni-B/ZIF-8 is a promising material for supercapacitors.

Fire Resistances of Restrained Steel Beams Subjected to Fire Loads

        Zhen Guo,Rui Gao,Xuecheng Zhang,Xingzhi Jia 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.8

Conventional fire loads and fire resistances of a steel beam still lack an adequate correlation. This paper has established therelationship between the responses of restrained steel beams and fire actions by using a new definition of fire resistances and a newexpression of fire loads. By using reduction factors of elastic modulus and yield strengths, has presented three critical equations topredict the limit state of a restrained steel beam in a fire. Based on these equations and the heat transfer formula, the paper provided anew definition of fire resistances. By using the heat release rate and effective rate coefficient of thermal absorption, a new expressionof fire loads has been argued. Compared with tests, the proposed approach in this paper is in good agreement with the measuredvalues in tests. The results show that the new fire resistances could be able to reflect the facts of heat transfers and duration time. Incontrast to conventional fire loads, the new fire loads are more efficient to indicate a fire load.

ON REES MATRIX REPRESENTATIONS OF ABUNDANT SEMIGROUPS WITH ADEQUATE TRANSVERSALS

Gao, Zhen Lin,Liu, Xian Ge,Xiang, Yan Jun,Zuo, He Li Korean Mathematical Society 2009 대한수학회논문집 Vol.24 No.4

The concepts of *-relation of a ($\Gamma$-)semigroup and $\bar{\Gamma}$-adequate transversal of a ($\Gamma$-)abundant semigroup are defined in this note. Then we develop a matrix type theory for abundant semigroups. We give some equivalent conditions of a Rees matrix semigroup being abundant and some equivalent conditions of an abundant Rees matrix semigroup having an adequate transversal. Then we obtain some Rees matrix representations for abundant semigroups with adequate transversals by the above theories.

Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Heterocyclic Ring-substituted Chalcone Derivatives as Novel Inhibitors of Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B

        Zhen-Hua Chen,Liang-Peng Sun,Wei Zhang,Qiang Shen,Li-Xin Gao,Jia Li,Hu-Ri Piao 대한화학회 2012 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.33 No.5

Protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) is a key factor in negative regulation of the insulin pathway, and is a promising target for the treatment of type-II diabetes, obesity and cancer. Herein, compound (4) was first observed to have moderate inhibitory activity against PTP1B with an IC50 value of 13.72 ± 1.53 μM. To obtain more potent PTP1B inhibitors, we synthesized a series of chalcone derivatives using compound (4) as the lead compound. Compound 4l (IC50 = 3.12 ± 0.18 μM) was 4.4-fold more potent than the lead compound 4 (IC50 = 13.72 ± 1.53 μM), and more potent than the positive control, ursolic acid (IC50 = 3.40 ± 0.21 μM). These results may help to provide suitable drug-like lead compounds for the design of inhibitors of PTP1B as well as other PTPs.

Analysis, fabrication, and field test of an advanced embedded throwing lectromechanical sensing system

Zhen Gao,Dan Zhang 대한기계학회 2014 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.28 No.1

Scientific measuring equipment is important in maintaining and further improving the daily training quality of professional athletes. Inthrowing sports, only kinematic information is usually recorded by several high-speed cameras, whereas the dynamic data are lacking. An advanced embedded throwing system is analyzed, fabricated, and field tested. This throwing system can be used to substitute thenormal shot-put that obtains acceleration information from the upper limb when force is applied onto the device. This device has fourmain parts, namely, a mechanical shell, an embedded sensor, a signal processing circuit, and interface ports. The detailed design, simulation, and prototyping process are introduced in this work. The practical results obtained from the field test and feedback from users provethat the proposed throwing system is efficient for technical training and monitoring. This design provides a unique solution for the modelingand development of non-traditional, electro-mechanical sensing devices.
