We present a case of transcortical mixed aphasia (TMA) presumably caused by left anterior cerebral artery infarction. A 53-year-old, right-handed woman suddenly developed speech disturbance and abnormal behavior. Her spontaneous speech was remarkably reduced to almost mutistic state and objective naming, comprehension, reading and writing were severely impaired. However, repetition of phonemes and sentences were fully preserved. She showed echolalia and completion phenomenon, which prompted us to make a diagnosis of TMA. Although the lesion was confined to extrasylvian area on MRI, SPECT demonstrated diminished blood flow left perisylvian cortices suggestive of functional isolation of speech area. In spite of her echolalic repetition, she couldn't repeat affective prosody, presumably, because of the left anterior corpus callosal lesion. Treatment with bromocriptine, a dopamine agonist helped her recovery of behavioral changes, namely abulia or akinetic mutism consisitent with mesial frontal syndrome.
Phosphodiesterase inhibitor improves renal tubulointerstitial Hypoxia of the Diabetic rat Kidney

Background/Aims: Renal hypoxia is involved in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy. Pentoxifyllin (PTX), a nonselective phosphodiesterase inhibitor, is used to attenuate peripheral vascular diseases. To determine whether PTX can improve renal hypoxia, we investigated its effect in the streptozocin (STZ)-induced diabetic kidney. Methods: PTX (40 mg/kg, PO) was administered to STZ-induced diabetic rats for 8 weeks. To determine tissue hypoxia, we examined hypoxic inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and glucose transporter-1 (GLUT-1) levels. We also tested the effect of PTX on HIF-1α in renal tubule cells. Results: PTX reduced the increased protein creatinine ratio in diabetic rats at 8 weeks. HIF-1α, VEGF, and GLUT-1 mRNA expression increased significantly, and the expression of HO-1 also tended to increase in diabetic rats. PTX significantly decreased mRNA expression of HIF-1α and VEGF at 4 and 8 weeks, and decreased HO-1 and GLUT-1 at 4 weeks. The expression of HIF-1α protein was significantly increased at 4 and 8 weeks in tubules in the diabetic rat kidney. PTX tended to decrease HIF-1α protein expression at 8 weeks. To examine whether PTX had a direct effect on renal tubules, normal rat kidney cells were stimulated with CoCl2 (100 μM), which enhanced HIF-1α mRNA and protein levels under low glucose conditions (5.5 mM). Their expressions were similar even after high glucose (30 mM) treatment. PTX had no effect on HIF-1α expression. Conclusions: PTX attenuates tubular hypoxia in the diabetic kidney.

Three novel alkaloids (1–3), together withnineteen known ones (4–22), were isolated from the bulbsof Lycoris longituba. Their structures were elucidated onthe basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, which belongto several Amaryllidaceae alkaloid skeletons. Amongthem, the harmane-type alkaloids (the new compound 1and the known compounds 5, 6 and 7) were found for thefirst time from Lycoris genus. The isolates were tested fortheir neuroprotective activities against CoCl2, H2O2 andAb25–35-induced SH-SY5Y cell injuries, and the majorityof them exhibited neuroprotective activities of differentdegrees. The acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitoryactivities of the isolated alkaloids were also evaluated,while compounds 12, 14–20 and 22 exhibited extremelysignificant AChE inhibitory activities.
심전도 기반 자율감각쾌락반응의 심신안정상태 유도 효과 검증

사회에 만연한 정신과 진찰에 대한 편견과 거부감으로 적절한 시기에 정신건강 상담과 치료를 받지 못하는 정신질환 환자가 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 정신과 치료를 대체하기 위해 최근 청각, 시각적 자극을 통한 자율안정쾌락반응(autonomous sensory meridian response: ASMR)이 주목받고 있으며 많은 사용자가 심리적 안정 효과를 보고하고 있다. 그러나 현재까지 ASMR의 심리적 안정 효과를 정량적으로 확인한 연구가 미비하며, 심리적 거부감과 부담이 적은 정신건강 증진 보조 시스템으로 활용을 위해 ASMR의 객관적 안정 효과의 검증이 선행되어야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 임상에서 정신 건강 진단에 사용되는 심전도를 이용하여 ASMR 자극 종류와 청취 방법별 심리적 안정 효과를 객관적으로 검증하였다. 그 결과, ASMR 자극 중 속삭임 자극이 심박수 저하 효과가 있었으며, 영상을 통한 자극 청취방법을 사용할 경우 저/고주파수 파워 비율이 감소됨을 통해 심리적 안정 효과의 가능성을 확인하였다. The number of mentally ill patients who refuse psychiatric treatment at an appropriate time is constantly increasing due to the prejudice and rejection of psychiatric assessment. Recently, the autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) with auditory and visual stimuli attracts attention as an alternative to psychiatric treatment, and its effect on psychological stability has been reported by users. However, most of previous studies have not quantified the positive effect of ASMR, thereby there is little objective evidence that ASMR can be used as a mental health care system with less psychological burden. Therefore, the objective psychological stability effect of ASMR should be first confirmed. In this study, the psychological stability effect on ASMR with different type and stimuli method was objectively confirmed using the electrocardiogram (ECG) used for diagnosis in clinical psychology. As a result, whispering stimuli of ASMR has effect of heart rate reduction. Moreover, the possibility of psychological stability was confirmed by decreasing the low/high frequency power ratio when stimuli presented as an video.
화장품의 전기적 특성 분석을 위한 문지름 모사 시험 장치 개발

최근 미세전류가 피부 개선 및 화장품의 유효성분 흡수력 향상에 도움이 된다는 보고와 함께 다양한 형태의 미용 장치가 개발되었다. 별도 장치 사용의 번거로움을 해결하기 위하여 전기 발생 화장품이 제안되었으나, 화장품 사용 중 발생하는 전기의 정량적 평가 기법이 개발되지 않은 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 레오미터와 d31 미터에 기반하여 화장품에 전단력을 가하면서 전기적 신호를 측정할 수 있는 문지름 모사 시험기를 개발하고, 이를 이용하여 화장품의 전기적 특성을 평가하였다. 화장품으로부터 발생한 전기적 신호는 전단력에 의해 화장품에 전단 변형이 발생할 때만 관찰되었으며, 화장품 성분의 함유량이 변하게 되면 전기적 특성도 변함을 확인하였다. 이로부터 개발된 문지름 모사 시험기는 화장품의 전기적 특성을 정량화할 수 있으며, 전기발생 화장품의 성분 최적화에 활용될 수 있다고 판단된다. Recently, various products related with beauty care were developed since microcurrents could improve the skin and boost the absorption of active constituents. Electrical cosmetics were suggested for solving inconveniences of the beauty care products, but no standard test method was established for the assessment of electrical characteristics of cosmetics quantitatively. In this study, we developed the rubbing type testing machine for measuring electrical signals from cosmetics under shear loadings based on a cone-plate rheometer and d31 meter. We compared the electrical characteristics of cosmetics with developed testing machine. We found that there were big changes of electric charge signals of cosmetics when the shear loadings were applied and electrical characteristics of cosmetics were changed as the content of one constituent was changed. From experiments, we can conclude that developed testing machine can quantify the electrical characteristics of cosmetics and be used for optimizing constituent contents of cosmetics.

In this study, This is the result of thermal characteristics analysis to suggest an efficient method of using coal gasification slag(CGS) of byproduct from integrated gasification combined cycle(IGCC). In Specific Heat characteristics, CGS and CS showed similar values. Isothermal Conduction Calorimetry showed that the hydration reaction of cement was retarded when CGS was used. Therefore, it is expected that CGS will be used as an efficient alternative to reducing the hydration heat of mass concrete as a functional aggregate combination.
