        With the widespread use of fertility medications and techniques of in vitro fertilization, multiple gestation has become epidemic in modern obstetric practice. Delivery of the initial fetus in a multiple gestation usually is followed by delivery of the subsequent fetus or fetuses shortly thereafter. However in rare circumstances, the delivery is delayed for days due to disappearance of uterine contraction after delivery of the first fetus. When uterine activity ceases after the delivery of the first neonate, a policy of nonintervention may be considered in case of an immature or very premature delivery, in order to achieve a gestational age for the remaining fetus(es) more compatible with neonatal survival. We report a case of twin gestation with prolongation of the delivery interval between the twins for 46 days.

        유산균을 이용한 경구용 항원 단백질 수송능 연구

        A promising application of Lactococcus lactis is its use as live vehicles for production and delivery of heterologous proteins of vaccines and therapeutic substances. Because L. lactis has GRAS ("generally regarded as safe") status, use tested whether L. lactis could function as the carrier of the L1 protein of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16. The RNA level expression of L1 gene was detected in L. Laois. The L1 protein was expressed in L. luctis with LI gene. The growth of strains L. lactis with an empty plasmid (pAMJ328) and L. lactis with L1-encoding plasmid (pAMJ328-L1) was slightly decreased in comparison with the growth of strains L. lactis (wild type). However, all the three strains of L lactis maintained the ability to ferment sugars primarily into lactic acid, indicating that L1 protein did not affect the biochemical property of L.. lactis. These results suggest that L. lactis. capable of carrying LI protein, might he further developed as a biocompatible oral protein delivery system.

        This study was done to observe the distributions of Oxytocinergic and Vasopressinergic neurons in the hypothalamus of the cow. For the immunohistochemical staining, sections were reacted with the following sequence of solutions: monoclonal anti-vasopressin and anti-oxytocin, biotinylated anti-mouse IgG, avidin-biotin peroxidase complex, and Ni-DAB. The results observed under light microscope were summarized as follows. Our immunohistochemical investigations reveal both vasopressinergic and oxytocinergic neurons in the supraoptic nucleus(SON), paraventricular nucleus(PVN), accessory supraoptic nucleus (ASN), periventricular nucleus(PN), suprachiasmatic nucleus(SCN), and arcuate nucleus(AN), but these two types of neurons were mainly distributed in the PVN and SON and the ratio of the number of vasopressinergic neurons to that of oxytocinergic neurons was 1:1.30 in the PVN, and 1:1.00 in the SON. These two types of neurons were round, oval and spindle-shaped and cell size was 30-55um.

      • FOPS(Film on Porous Silicon)를 이용한 ZnO 에어브리지의 제작

        Micromachining technique by FOPS(Film on Porous Silicon) method using ZnO thin film was studied to fabricate ZnO air-bridge type microstructures. Porous silicon was formed selectively in n^(+)-diffused region of (100) oriented silicon substrate by anodic reaction in 20 wt% HF solution. ZnO thin film was deposited on the porous silicon layer by RF magnetron sputtering and then pattern was defined by standard photolithography. Finally, porous silicon was etched away in 5 wt% NaOH solution. The fabricated ZnO microstructures have 20μm width, 40μm thickness and microstructure was cleanly formed on the cavity. Also, microstructure of arbitrary shape was fabricated.

        X-선 회절법에 의한 소결광내의 칼슘페라이트 생성에 미치는 Al_2O_3, SiO_2 및 MgO의 영향

        In order to elucidate the fundamental aspects of the minerals formation processes during sintering, the Fe_2O_3-CaO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2 system and the effect of MgO on synthesized iron ore sinter were studied by image analysis and X-ray diffraction method. Most existed calcium ferrite was identified to be a solid solution of CaO·2Fe_2O_3 with a small amount of solubility of Al_2O_3 and SiO_2. With an increase of the content of Al_2O_3 in the system, the amount of calcium ferrite was increased. On the other hand, the amount of calcium ferrite was decreased, and the amount of hematite was increased with increasing the content of SiO_2. Crystal structure of calcium ferrite with Al_2O_3 and SiO_2 was changed from monoclinic to triclinic as well as the unit cell volume shrank with fixing Al_2O_3 and increasing SiO_2. With increasing the content of MgO(1∼3 wt%), the amount of magnetite was increased and hematite was decreased but calcium ferrite was not changed.

      • 국내산 과일 및 채소 추출물을 이용한 체중 조절 관련 기능성 식품소재 탐색

        Obesity can be defined as a disorder of lipid metabolism and the control of this process is regulated by enzymes involved in lipid metabolic pathway. Obesity is also characterized increases in the number and size of adipocyte differentiated from fibroblastic pre-adipocytes in adipose tissue. The aim of this study was to screen ethanol extracts of 21 fruits and vegetables cultivated in Republic of Korea for identifying natural sources of lipase inhibitor and to investigate the effects of several extracts resulting in suppression of triglyceride (TG) accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells. Among the tested extracts, Diospyros kaki L. showed the highest contents of total sugar and the content of total phenolic compounds was detected 17 species while there was not detected in Ixeris dentate root and Allium fistulosum C. etc. We were screened 26 extracts of fruits and vegetables for pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity compared with orlistat. The strongest lipase inhibitory activities were shown by extract of Allium sativum L. stem, Allium sativum L. bulb, Apteryx australis, Diospyros kaki L. Malus Pumila, Perilla frutescens and Prunus mume regardless of concentrations treated. Eight extracts including Brassica juncea var. integrilolia had no effect on lipase inhibition. During the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocyte to mature adipocyte, the cells were treated with carrier or 7 extracts(1, 5 and 10 ㎍/ml), which was shown to highest lipase inhibitory effects. We were quantified lipid contents secreted mature adipocytes and stained with Oil Red O. All cells treated with the Apteryx australis and Prunus mume significantly decreased TG contents than the control. These findings suggested that the screened fruit and vegetable could be a promising source as the effective and safe lipase inhibitors for isolating bioactive ingredients and developing functional foods.

      • 동종 조혈모세포이식 후 발생한 크립토콕쿠스 척추염 1예

        Skeletal cryptococcosis is an uncommon infection. Cryptococcus is a common cause of meningitis and infects 7∼10% of patients with AIDS. As well as AIDS, the infection may be seen in association with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis and diabetes, also in patients on steroid medication. But there is no case report of skeletal cryptococcosis following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. A 40-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of low back pain. She had chronic myelogenous leukemia for 2 years and underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation 8 months ago. She have been treated with steroid and cyclosporine orally because of chronic graft versus host disease. On examination she was afebrile and had posterior lower lumbar tenderness. But, she had no reduced strength of low extremities. Open biopsy was underwent. Histology demonstrated budding, round-to-oval, refractile yeast-like organisms within debris. The results of a lumbar puncture were unremarkable and cerebrospinal fluid culture failed to grow bacteria and yeast. The patient was treated with amphotericin B (1 gram) and AmBisome□ (2.8 gram) over 6 weeks. Three months after cessation of therapy, the patient was doing well.(Korean J Infect Dis 33:298∼301, 2001)

      • 자동차용 실리콘 가속도센서의 개발(Ⅱ)

        자동차의 air-bag 장치에 실용될 수 있는 압저항형 단결정 실리콘 가속도센서 칩을 개발하기 위하여 결정 실리콘 미세구조의 제조방법을 확립하고, 단위공정의 검증을 통하여 일괄공정에 의한 PROTO-TYPE 칩을 만드는 기술을 연구하였다. 단결정 실리콘 미세구조는 선택확산법을 이용하여 정확히 선택된 영역에만 air-gap을 형성하여 미세구조의 측면식각을 방지하는 선택확산법에 의한 실리콘 마이크로머시닝 기술로 제조하였다. 일괄공정을 위한 단위공정확립을 위하여 PROTY-TYPE 8빔 브릿지형 가속도 센서를 제조하였다. 제조된 칩의 가속도에 따른 출력전압은 선형성을 나타내고 있으며, 감도는 약 50 ㎶/V·g로 나타났다. 이 감도는 50G용 가속도센서의 사양을 만족하지 못했다. 이는 공정에 의한 문제라기 보다는 가속도센서의 시뮬레이션에 의해 설계한 구조가 이미 원하는 감도에 못 미친다는 것으로 생각된다. 따라서 2차 공정으로 제조될 가속도센서의 파라미터를 SuperSAP 유한요소 패키지를 이용하여 실리콘 미세구조부의 파라미터에 따른 특성을 시뮬레이션하였다. 설계된 50G용 가속도센서의 mass Pad의 반경 및 빔 길이, 빔 폭, 빔 두께, 그리고 mass의 각 파라미터 값은 700 ㎛, 120 ㎛, 5 ㎛, 1.0 ㎎ 이었다. 반도체 공정기술, 관성질량 제조법 및 선택확산을 이용한 마이크로머시닝을 사용하여 일괄공정으로 8빔 브린지형 가속도센서를 제조하였다. We researched the establishment of the silicon microstructure fabrication technique to develop a piezoresistive type silicon acceleration sensor chip and the technique to make a proto-type chip by the verification of the unit-process. Silicon microstructure is fabricated silicon micro-machining by selective diffusion method. This method prevent a side-etching of microstructure because selective diffused region is only formed an air-gap. We fabricated a proto-type 8-beam bridge-type acceleration sensor to establish the unit-process for the batch-process. The output voltage of the chip represented linearity with acceleration, and the sensitivity was about 50 ㎶/V·g. But this sensitivity dosen't satisfy the requirements of a practical acceleration sensor. The cause of this result is assumed not process problem, but the structure designed by simulation isn't suitable already. Threfore, the characteristics of parameters of the acceleration sensor that will be fabricated by 2nd-process is simulated by SuperSAP finite-element package. The determined parameter values of beam length, beam width, beam thickness, mass, and mass radius are 120 ㎛, 5 ㎛, 1.0 ㎎, and 700 ㎛, respectively. We fabricated 8-beam bridge-type acceleration sensor by batch-process using a semiconductor process technique, proof-mass fabrication method, and micromachinig using selective diffusion.

      • Acupuncture for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Multicenter, Randomized, Patient-Assessor Blind, Sham-Controlled Clinical Trial

        STUDY DESIGN.: Multicenter, randomized, patient-assessor blind, sham-controlled clinical trial. OBJECTIVE.: To investigate the efficacy of acupuncture treatment with individualized setting for reduction of bothersomeness in participants with chronic low back pain (cLBP). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA.: Low back pain is one of the main reasons of disability among adults of working age. Acupuncture is known as an effective treatment of cLBP, but it remains unclear whether acupuncture is superior to placebo. METHODS: One hundred thirty adults aged 18 to 65 years with nonspecific LBP lasting for at least last 3 months prior to the trial participated in the study from 3 Korean medical hospitals. Participants received individualized real acupuncture treatments or sham acupuncture treatments for more than 6 weeks (twice a week) from Korean Medicine doctors. Primary outcome was change of visual analogue scale (VAS) score for bothersomeness of cLBP. Secondary outcomes included VAS score for pain intensity and questionnaires including Oswestry Disability Index, general health status (Short Form-36), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). RESULTS: There were no baseline differences observed between the 2 groups, except in the Oswestry Disability Index. One hundred sixteen participants finished the treatments and 3- and 6-month follow-ups, with 14 subjects dropping out. Significant difference in VAS score for bothersomeness and pain intensity score of cLBP has been found between the 2 groups (P < 0.05) at the primary end point (8 wk). In addition, those 2 scores improved continuously until 3-month follow-up (P = 0.011, P = 0.005, respectively). Oswestry Disability Index, the Beck Depression Inventory, and Short Form-36 scores were also improved in both groups without group difference. CONCLUSION.: This randomized sham-controlled trial suggests that acupuncture treatment shows better effect on the reduction of the bothersomeness and pain intensity than sham control in participants with cLBP.
