<P> Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) play an important role in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury. Moreover, platelets are also important blood cells that can aggravate myocardial ischemic injury. This study was designed to test the effects of PMNs and platelets separately and together in provoking cardiac dysfunction in isolated perfused rat hearts following ischemia and reperfusion. Additional control rat hearts were perfused with 75⁓10<SUP>6</SUP> PMNs, with 75⁓10<SUP>6</SUP> platelets, or with 75⁓10<SUP>6</SUP> PMNs75⁓10<SUP>6</SUP> platelets over a five minute perfusion followed by a 75 min observation period. No significant reduction in coronary flow (CF), left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP), or the first derivative of LVDP (dP/dt max) was observed at the end of the observation period in any non-ischemic group. Similarly, global ischemia (I) for 20 min followed by 45 minutes of reperfusion (R) produced no sustained effects on the final recovery of any of these parameters in any group of hearts perfused in the absence of blood cells. However, I/R hearts perfused with either PMNs or platelets alone exhibited decreases in these variables of 5∼10% (p<0.05 from control). Furthermore, I/R hearts perfused with both PMNs and platelets exhibited decreases of 50 to 60% in all measurements of cardiac function (p<0.01). These dual cell perfused I/R hearts also exhibited marked increases in cardiac myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity indicating a significant PMN infiltration, and enhanced P-selectin expression on the coronary microvascular endothelium. All cardiaodynamic effects as well as PMN accumulation and P-selectin expression were markedly attenuated by a recombinant soluble PSGL-1 which inhibits selectin mediated cell adhesion. These results provide evidence that platelets and PMNs act synergistically in provoking post-reperfusion cardiac dysfunction, and that this may be largely due to cell to cell interactions mediated by P-selectin. These results also demonstrate that a recombinant soluble PSGL-1 reduces myocardial reperfusion injury by platelet and PMNs interaction.
다시마 분말을 첨가한 막장 에탄올 추출물의 항돌연변이원성 및 세포독성 효과

This study was carried out to investigate antimutagenic and cytotoxic effects of Korean traditional Mackjang added with sea tangle powder. The content percentage of most of minerals among general composition increased by adding sea tangle powder. By the Ames test, the antimutagenic effect of ethanol extract of Korean traditional Mackjang added with 5% sea tangle powder was strongest, exceeding the control, 10% and 15% sea tangle additions. The ethanol extract (400 ㎍/plate) of Mackjang added with 5% sea tangle powder in the S. typhimurium TA100 strain showed inhibition rate of 95.0% against the mutagencsis induced by MNNG. The inhibition rate of ethanol extract (400 ㎍/plate) of Mackjang added with 5% sea tangle powder in the S. typhimurium TA98 and TA100 strains was 81.4% and 88,8%, respectively, against the mutagencsis induced by 4NQO. Cinder the same conditions, the suppression against B(a)P and Trp-P-1 in the TA98 and TA100 strains were 85.3% and 91.0%, and 96.5% and 92.0%. respectively. For the anticancer effects, an investigation was done on the cytotoxicity of Mackjang added with 5% sea tangle powder on the cell lines with human lung carcinoma (A549), human hepatoeellular carcinoma (HepG2), and human gastric carcinoma (KATOIII). The cytotoxicities were inhibited with increasing the extract concentration. The treatment of 1.0 ㎎/mL Mackjang added with 5% sea tangle powder showed relatively strong cytotoxicity of 61.2%, 61.8% and 66.8% against A549, KATOIII, and HepG2, respectively.

The work presented in this paper represents a study of the rate and extent of transdermal penetration of three synthetic hexapeptides consisting only of glycine (Gly) and phenylalanine (Phe) as the constituent amino acids and they include Phe-Gly-Gly-Gly-Gly-Gly (Pep-1), Phe-Phe-Gly-Gly-Gly-Gly (Pep-2), and Phe-Phe-Phe- Gly-Gly-Gly (Pep-3). The present study demonstrated the extent to which the peptides having a high metabolic stability were transdermally transported from the various vehicles. The results of this study appear to indicate that minor differences in the lipophilicity of the synthetic hexapeptides have a slight influence on the rate and extent of transport. In the presence of terpene permeation enhancers, together with ethanol (i.e., menthone/ EtOH, carveol/EtOH or cineole/EtOH), the peptides were more rapidly penetrated through the skin and among the terpenes tested, cineole was the most effective for all three peptides. The maximum enhancement ratio of approximately 2 was achieved by cineole in 50% ethanol solution.
Growth Profile and Toxigenicity of Bacillus cereus in Ready-to-eat Food Products of Animal Origin

The growth profile of Bacillus cereus in ready-to-eat (RTE) food products of animal origin was examined under different temperature and incubation conditions. In sandwiches and Kimbab, B. cereus did not grow or exhibited only minimal growth at 4 and 10℃, but it grew rapidly at ambient temperature. In sandwiches, B. cereus did not grow efficiently at 25℃, however, in ham, the main ingredient of sandwiches, B. cereus growth was observed at the same temperature, with bacterial levels reaching 7.94 Log CFU/g after incubation for 24 h at 25℃. Toxigenicity of B. cereus was observed only at temperatures above 25℃. In Kimbab, B. cereus produced toxin after 9 h at 30℃ and after 12 h at 25℃. Ingredients of sandwiches and Kimbab were collected from 3 different Korean food-processing companies to investigate the source of contamination by B. cereus. Among the 13 tested food items, 6 items including ham were found to be contaminated with B. cereus. Of these ingredients, B. cereus isolates from 3 items produced enterotoxins. None of these isolates harbored the emetic toxin-producing gene. The findings of the present study can be used for risk assessments of food products, including ham and cheese, contaminated with B. cereus.
Distinct Roles for JNK1 and JNK3 During TNF-α- or Etoposide-Induced Apoptosis in HeLa Cells

Here, we show that JNK1 and JNK3 have different roles in TNF-α- or etoposide-induced apoptosis in HeLa cells. Dominant negative JNK1 inhibited TNF-α- or etoposide-induced apoptosis, while dominant negative JNK3 promoted TNF-α- or etoposide-induced apoptosis. During TNF-α-induced apoptosis, JNK1 was activated in a biphasic manner, exhibiting both transient and sustained activity, whereas JNK3 was activated early and in a transient manner. The role of JNK3 activation was an anti-apoptotic effect, while the role of JNK1 activation was a pro-apoptotic effect. Application of cyclophosphazene derivatives as flame retardants for ABS

Cyclotriphosphazene derivatives were synthesized for use as a non-halogen flame retardant for ABS. Hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene was reacted with phenol, catechol, or 2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene,respectively, and the fire retardant ability of each product in ABS resin was characterized by UL 94 and LOI tests. The mechanical properties of ABS compounds containing one of these flame retardants were also examined. The derivative (HNCP) synthesized from 2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene showed the best flame retardance among these derivatives studied. Synergistic effects with novolac were observed in the cases using the derivative (PNCP) obtained from phenol, but little synergistic effects were observed in cases using HNCP. 2010 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. 죽음준비프로그램이 포함된 호스피스 교육이 간호 대학생의 죽음인식, 죽음태도와 임종간호태도에 미치는 효과

본 연구는 죽음준비프로그램이 포함된 호스피스 교육을 간호 대학생에게 적용하여 죽음인식과 죽음태도 및 임종간호태도에 미치는 효과를 파악하기 위해 시행된 방법론적 트라이앵귤레이션 연구이다. 양적연구는 SPSS WIN 18.0 프로그램을 이용하 여 기술통계, Wilcoxon 부호순위검정, Spearman’s rho으로, 질적연구는 내용분석을 시행하였다. 결과로는 간호 대학생의 임종간호태도가 유의하게 증가하였고, 죽음태도와 임종간호태도가 유의한 상관관계가 나타났다. 참여자들의 죽음준비프로그램이 포함된 호스피스 교육을 분류, 범주화하여 명명 작업한 결과는 1. 죽음의 부정적인속성 : 외로움, 허망함, 죽음 임박에 따른 고통, 2. 죽음의 긍정적인 속성: 삶의 과정, 새로운 시작, 영원한 휴식, 3. 희망하는 죽음 : 평화로운 죽음, 준비가 되어진 죽음, 존엄성이 지켜진 죽음, 4. 예비간호사로서의 임종간호 : 임종자에 대한 두려움, 자신의 역할에 대한 직무만족, 삶과 간호에 대한 가치관, 영적간호로 나타났다. 따라서 죽음준비프로그램이 포함된 호스피스 교육은 간호 대학생의 임종간호태도를 향상시키는데 효과적인 교육프로그램이라 할 수 있다. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a hospice education including death preparing education program on perception of death, attitude of death and terminal care attitude for nursing students. A methodological triangulation that quantitative research used frequency, percentage, Wilcoxon, Spearman’s rho using SPSS 18.0 WIN program and qualitative research was conducted contents analysis. At the result of the research, the hospice education including death preparing program showed to significant increase its terminal care attitude of the students. There was a significant positive correlation between the attitude of death and terminal care attitude. The result of classification, giving their names and categorizing of the hospice education including the death preparing program of the participants showed such as, 1. Negative characteristics of death: loneliness, falsehood, death s agonies, 2. Positive characteristics of death: life process, new start, eternal rest, 3. Hopeful death: peaceful death, prepared death, death with dignity, 4. End-of-life care as pre-nurses: fear for the deathbed person, satisfaction of his or her s roles, value for the life and care, and spiritual care. In conclusion, a hospice education including death preparing education program was an effective program in enhancing the attitude of death and the terminal care attitude for nursing students.
영어 텍스트 수정이 텍스트 난이도와 응집성에 미치는 영향

There are ongoing debates on whether modified materials are better than the original ones. In this respect, the purpose of the study is to compare the modified texts found in high school English textbooks and their originals through the Coh-Metrix program. Among 60, 8 factors measuring text difficulty and cohesion were selected, and 10 reading passages out of 7 textbooks were compared with their originals. The results revealed that six out of 10 textbook passages were made easier, while four were slightly more difficult than the originals, and that half of the passages had more connectives after modification, and half had less. This suggests that not only lowering the difficulty of the texts but making them more cohesive are an important factor to be considered in the process of modification.
