        정전척의 유전체 물질로 열전도도와 유전특성 그리고 기계적 특성이 우수한 알루미나에 TiO₂첨가하여 유전체의 비저항을 변화시켜서 정전척(electrostatic chuck)에서 발생하는 정전력인 쿨롱힘(coulomb force)과 존슨-라벡힘(Johnsen-Fahbeck firce_의 영향을 규명하려 하였다. 그리고 비저항, 인가전압, 온도, 습도가 정전력에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 고찰하였으며, 인가전압에 따른 응답 특성에 관하여 고찰하였다. Alumina electrostatic chucks for silicon wafer process with wide range of electrical resistivity were fabricated by controlling the amount of TiO₂ addition (0 wt%, 1.3 wt%, 2 wt%, 2.8 wt%). The dependence of electrostatic force on applied voltage, temperature and humidity was investigated. In addition, response characteristics on applied voltage and relationship between electrical resistivity and electrostatic force characteristics such as Coulomb force and Johnsen-Rahbeck force were discussed

        <P>The antibiotic production and spore formation process in Streptomyces coelicolor need complex decision making processes by several regulatory units. These regulatory units are involved in both primary and secondary metabolism. As a result, most regulators have several functions, and those are worthwhile themes to study about different functions of a known regulator. In this study, a deletion mutant of ndgR, which encodes the nitrogen-dependent growth regulator, was examined by the cell viability test, TEM, and growth in N-acetylglucosamine/asparagine (GlcNAc/Asn) liquid medium. The results of the study show that NdgR is also involved in the structure of the cell membrane affecting survival under physical shocks. Deletion of ndgR leads to abnormal cell membrane resulting in the vulnerable cells to physical stress caused by shaking with beads in liquid culture condition. This empirical observation is the first meaningful explanation to why ndgR mutant could not grow well in a liquid minimal medium due to the defect of N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) utilization and phospholipid synthesis.</P>

        Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has emerged as a promising tool for various clinical applications, including early diagnosis, therapeutic target identification, treatment response monitoring, prognosis evaluation, and minimal residual disease detection. Consequently, ctDNA assays have been incorporated into clinical practice. In this review, we offer an in-depth exploration of the clinical implementation of ctDNA assays. Notably, we examined existing evidence related to pre-analytical procedures, analytical components in current technologies, and result interpretation and reporting processes. The primary objective of this guidelines is to provide recommendations for the clinical utilization of ctDNA assays.

        Antiobesity Activity of Aqueous Extracts of Rhizoma Dioscoreae Tokoronis on High-Fat Diet-Induced Obesity in Mice

        We examined the effects of Rhizoma Dioscoreae Tokoronis extracts (RDTEs) on plasma lipids, body weight, and lipogenic enzymes. Mice were administered a standard chow diet, a 60% high-fat diet, or a high-fat diet with RDTE. Mice that were fed a high-fat diet containing RDTE were found to have lower increases in body and epididymal adipose tissue weights and a lessened occurrence of hepatic steatosis than mice that were fed a high-fat diet. The decreased adiposity that was induced by RDTE accounted for lower plasma levels of tumor necrosis factor-$\alpha$, leptin, and glucose and a higher level of adiponectin. RDTE administration also resulted in a significant decrease in triglyceride, total plasma cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol when compared to the high-fat group. To identify the mechanism by which RDTE induced its antiobesity effect, we investigated the sterol response element binding protein (SREBP) transcription system, which was induced in mice that were fed the high-fat diet. RDTE was found to suppress the expression of SREBP-1 as well as that of fatty acid synthase in adipose and liver tissues in mice provided the high-fat diet. These findings suggest that the antiobesity action of RDTE in mice that are fed a high-fat diet may occur in response to suppression of the SREBP-1-dependent lipogenic pathway.

        Comparative outcomes of acute colonic diverticulitis in immunocompromised versus immunocompetent patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis

        Background/Aims: Immunocompromised patients with acute colonic diverticulitis are at high risk for complications and failure of non-surgical treatment. However, evidence on the comparative outcomes of immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients with diverticulitis is lacking. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the outcomes of medical treatment in immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients with diverticulitis.Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library. Studies comparing the clinical outcomes of immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients with diverticulitis were included.Results: A total of 10 studies with 1,946,461 subjects were included in the quantitative synthesis. The risk of emergency surgery and postoperative mortality after emergency surgery was significantly higher in immunocompromised patients than in immunocompetent patients with diverticulitis (risk ratio [RR], 1.76; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.31–2.38 and RR, 3.05; 95% CI, 1.70–5.45, respectively). Overall risk of complications associated with diverticulitis was non-significantly higher in immunocompromised than in immunocompetent patients (RR, 1.24; 95% CI, 0.95–1.63). Overall mortality irrespective of surgery was significantly higher in immunocompromised than in immunocompetent patients with diverticulitis (RR, 3.65; 95% CI, 1.73–7.69). By contrast, postoperative mortality after elective surgery was not significantly different between immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients with diverticulitis. In subgroup analysis, the risk of emergency surgery and recurrence was significantly higher in immunocompromised patients with complicated diverticulitis, whereas no significant difference was shown in mild disease.Conclusions: Immunocompromised patients with diverticulitis should be given the best medical treatment with multidisciplinary approach because they had increased risks of surgery, postoperative morbidity, and mortality than immunocompetent patients.

        Characteristics of ginsenoside Rg3-mediated brain Na+ current inhibition.

        <P>We demonstrated previously that ginsenoside Rg(3) (Rg(3)), an active ingredient of Panax ginseng, inhibits brain-type Na(+) channel activity. In this study, we sought to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying Rg(3)-induced Na(+) channel inhibition. We used the two-microelectrode voltage-clamp technique to investigate the effect of Rg(3) on Na(+) currents (I(Na)) in Xenopus laevis oocytes expressing wild-type rat brain Na(V)1.2 alpha and beta1 subunits, or mutants in the channel entrance, the pore region, the lidocaine/tetrodotoxin (TTX) binding sites, the S4 voltage sensor segments of domains I to IV, and the Ile-Phe-Met inactivation cluster. In oocytes expressing wild-type Na(+) channels, Rg(3) induced tonic and use-dependent inhibitions of peak I(Na). The Rg(3)-induced tonic inhibition of I(Na) was voltage-dependent, dose-dependent, and reversible, with an IC(50) value of 32 +/- 6 microM. Rg(3) treatment produced a 11.2 +/- 3.5 mV depolarizing shift in the activation voltage but did not alter the steady-state inactivation voltage. Mutations in the channel entrance, pore region, lidocaine/TTX binding sites, or voltage sensor segments did not affect Rg(3)-induced tonic blockade of peak I(Na). However, Rg(3) treatment inhibited the peak and plateau I(Na) in the IFMQ3 mutant, indicating that Rg(3) inhibits both the resting and open states of Na(+) channel. Neutralization of the positive charge at position 859 of voltage sensor segment domain II abolished the Rg(3)-induced activation voltage shift and use-dependent inhibition. These results reveal that Rg(3) is a novel Na(+) channel inhibitor capable of acting on the resting and open states of Na(+) channel via interactions with the S4 voltage-sensor segment of domain II.</P>

        Background/Aims: There are no pathognomonic features of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). Its diagnosis requires the exclusion of various other conditions. The aim of this study was to validate indirectly the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group (IAHG) scoring system in diagnosing AIH. Methods: Twenty-six patients with Type 1 AIH and female patients with chronic hepatitis B (n=34), chronic hepatitis C (n=25), or toxic hepatitis (n=13) were evaluated according to 9 categories of pretreatment minimum required parameters proposed by IAHG. Aggregate scores of AIH to those of non-AIH groups, which were assessed before and after extracting the proportions of etiologic factors, were also compared and evaluated. Results: While aggregate scores of non-AIH groups, before extracting the proportions of etiologic factors, were 5.2±1.8, 5.6±1.1, and 7.4±1.2 in that order, those of AIH groups were 12.8±1.7. These were significantly higher than those of non-AIH groups (p$lt;0.01). All patients in AIH groups and only 1 patienta non-AIH group showed aggregate scores of more than 10. Aggregate scores after extracting the proportions of etiologic factors were more than 4 in all, except 2, patients. These should have been consistent with 10 if there were no etiologic factors in non-AIH groups. Conclusion: The IAHG scoring system might have a relatively excessive importance to the scores of categories excluding distinct etiologies from AIH. It might be difficult to differentiate AIH from chronic liver diseases of indistinct cause based on the IAHG scoring system.(Korean J Hepatol 2002;8:35-43)

      • Determination of Polyphenol Components of Korean Prostrate Spurge ( <i>Euphorbia supina</i> ) by Using Liquid Chromatography—Tandem Mass Spectrometry: Overall Contribution to Antioxidant Activity

        <P>The Korean prostrate spurge <I>Euphorbia supina</I> is a weed that has been used in folk medicine in Korea against a variety of diseases. Nine polyphenols were characterized for this plant by using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) and the results were compared with the literature data. The individual components were validated using the calibration curves of structurally related external standards and quantified for the first time by using the validated method. Correlation coefficients (<I>r</I><SUP>2</SUP>) were >0.9907. The limit of detection and limit of quantification of the method were >0.028 mg/L and 0.094 mg/L, respectively. Recoveries measured at 50 mg/L and 100 mg/L were 76.1–102.8% and 85.2–98.6%, respectively. The total amount of the identified polyphenols was 3352.9 ± 2.8 mg/kg fresh plant. Quercetin and kaempferol derivatives formed 84.8% of the total polyphenols. The antioxidant activities of the flavonoids were evaluated in terms of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical cation-scavenging activity, and the reducing power showed a dose-dependent increase. Cell viability was effectively suppressed at polyphenol mixture concentrations >250 mg/L.</P>

      • 변단면 골조기둥의 유효길이 계수

        기둥의 부재축에 따른 휨강성 변화가 정현함수(sine function)로 표시되는 단층 2경간 골조의 임계하중을 유한요소법으로 산정하였다. 골조는 가새 골조와 비가새 골조로 구분하였으며 수치해석에서는 경간대 충고비(=β)와 보의 단면 2차 모멘트 대 기둥의 최대 2차 모멘트 비(=n)를 고려하였다. 또한 기둥 자체의 단면 2차 모멘트는 taper parameter (=α)와 sectional property parameter (=m)에 따라 변화하는 것으로 하였다. 수치해석으로 산정된 임계하중 계수의 변화는 매개변수의 대수함수식으로 표시하고 대수 함수식의 계수 값들은 희귀분석법으로 결정하였다. 끝으로 제안한 대수함수식을 이용하여 유효길이 계수식을 유도하였다. 등단면 기둥의 경우 제안한 대수식을 기본으로 한 유효길이 계수는 수정 처짐각법식을 이용한 계수보다는 크고 CM 66(또는 Alignment charts)을 적용하여 산정한 값보다는 작다.

        Efficacy of sentinel lymph node biopsy with radioisotope alone and the prediction of sentinel node status using PET-CT in breast cancer

        Purpose: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) using both a radioactive isotope (RI) and blue dye is considered highly effective; however, there were limitations with the use of both agents in some hospitals, and blue dye has been shown to have some adverse effects. Additionally, preoperative prediction of sentinel lymph node (SLN) status using the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) on positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) can help avoid unnecessary axillary dissection or SLNB. Thus, we evaluated the efficacy and oncologic safety of SLNB using an RI alone in terms of long-term outcomes and determined the association between SLN metastasis and SUVmax of the primary tumor. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at Konyang University Hospital between March 2011 and May 2018. Overall, 142 patients with breast cancer who underwent SLNB using an RI alone were enrolled. Data on identification and false-negative rates were collected. The SUVmax of primary tumors on PET-CT were analyzed for their association with SLN metastasis. Results: The identification and false-negative rates were 98.6% and 0%, respectively. There was no axillary local recurrence in patients with negative SLN findings. The correlation between the SUVmax of the primary tumor and SLN status was significant (r=0.249, P=0.005); the cutoff value for negative SLN metastasis was <2.15. Conclusion: The single agent method using an RI is not inferior to other methods and serves as a feasible option for SLNB. And the number of excised SLNs could be minimized when the SUVmax of primary tumor is extremely low.
