Genealogical Diversity of Endogenous Retrovirus in the Jawless Fish Genome
Jing Song,Jie Wei,Yongping Ma,Yan Sun,Zhi Li 한국미생물·생명공학회 2023 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.33 No.11
Retroviral integration into ancient vertebrate genomes left traces that can shed light on the early history of viruses. In this study, we explored the early evolution of retroviruses by isolating nine Spuma endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) and one Epsilon ERV from the genomes of Agnatha and Chondrichthyes. Phylogenetic analysis of protein sequences revealed a striking pattern of coevolution between jawless fish ERV and their host, while shark ERV underwent ancient cross-class viral transmission with jawless fish, ray-finned fish, and amphibians. Nucleotide sequence analysis showed that jawless fish ERV emerged in the Palaeozoic period, relatively later than ray-finned fish ERV. Moreover, codon analysis suggested that the jawless fish ERV employed an infection strategy that mimics the host codon. The genealogical diversity of ERVs in the jawless fish genome highlights the importance of studying different viral species. Overall, our findings provide valuable insights into the evolution of retroviruses and their interactions with their hosts.

In this paper, we mainly consider the determinantal representations of the unique solution and the general solution to the restricted system of quaternion matrix equations $$\{{A_1X=C_1\\XB_2=C_2,}\;{{\mathcal{R}}_r(X){\subseteq}T_1,\;{\mathcal{N}}_r(X){\supseteq}S_1$$, respectively. As an application, we show the determinantal representations of the general solution to the restricted quaternion matrix equation $$AX+Y B=E,\;{\mathcal{R}}_r(X){\subseteq}T_1,\;{\mathcal{N}}_(X){\supseteq}S_1,\;{\mathcal{R}}_l(Y){\subseteq}T_2,\;{\mathcal{N}}_l (Y){\supseteq}S_2$$. The findings of this paper extend some known results in the literature.

Inspection of dissimilar metal welds using phased array ultrasound is not easy at all, because crystalline structure of dissimilar metal welds cause deviation and splitting of the ultrasonic beams. Thus, in order to have focusing and/or steering phased array beams in dissimilar metal welds, proper time delays should be determined by ray tracing. In this paper, we proposed an effective approach to solve this difficult problem. Specifically, we modify the Oglivy's model parameters to describe the crystalline structure of real dissimilar metal welds in a fabricated specimen. And then, we calculate the proper time delay and incident angle of linear phased array transducer in the anisotropic and inhomogeneous material for focusing and/or steering phased array ultrasonic beams on the desired position.

This research was conducted in four overseas Chinese communities in Binchuan County, Dali Prefecture of Yunnan Province. This paper adopts the concept of "multi-community", based on field investigation and individual interview, and focuses on the formation of multi-community, culture and identity awareness of returned Chinese. Under the background of the construction of Chinese national identity, this paper studies the diverse and heterogeneous group relations and the adjustment of ethnic relations within the returned overseas Chinese community, and investigates the cultural differences, multi-ethnic dynamic balance and identity integration within the returned overseas Chinese community, trying to explore and analyze the measures for the returned overseas Chinese to build Chinese national identity under the new immigration trend, and to provide constructive thinking and solutions for the construction of Chinese national identity in the border ethnic areas.

Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) calculations have been employed to investigate the molecular structures and absorption spectra of three D-${\pi}$-A-type organic dyes (C1-1, D5 and TH208) containing identical ${\pi}$-spacers and electron acceptors, but different aromatic amine electron-donating groups (tetrahydroquinoline, triphenylamine and phenothiazine). The coplanar geometries indicate that the strong conjugation is formed in the dyes. The electronic structures suggest that the intramolecular charge transfer from the donor to the acceptor occurs, and the electron-donating ability of tetrahydroquinoline is stronger than those of triphenylamine and phenothiazine. The computed orbital energy levels of these dyes confirm that the electrons could be injected from the excited dyes to the semiconductor conduction band and the oxidized dyes could be reduced effectively by electrolyte. The TD-DFT results show that the CAM-B3LYP/6-31+G(d, p) is suitable for calculating the absorption spectra. The first absorption band for these dyes is assigned to the HOMO${\rightarrow}$LUMO and HOMO-1${\rightarrow}$LUMO transitions.

Tumor microenvironment is characterized by low pH, high reactive oxygen species and hypoxia, whichprovides a suitable environment for cancer growth. The hypoxia not only elevates tumor angiogenesisand metastasis, but also is responsible for the development of treatment resistance, which graduallybecomes a significant impediment for cancer therapy. Therefore, we developed a biomimetic nanosystemcontaining hemoglobin extracted from red blood cells, chemotherapy drug sorafenib, sensitizer ursolicacid and photosensitizer indocyanine green for enhanced chemo-photo combination therapy of hepatocellularcarcinoma, which could not only enhance the chemotherapy effect of sorafenib bowing to thesensitizing effect of ursolic acid, but also achieved synergetic phototherapy in virtue of indocyaninegreen. Besides, the nanoparticles could effectively delivery exogenous oxygen to tumor site and amelioratethe tumor hypoxic environment with the assistance of hemoglobin. The dual-sensitization drugdelivery system was expected to effectively reduce the resistance of traditional treatment methodsagainst tumor hypoxia, providing a novel prospect for the synergistic hepatocellular carcinomatreatment.
