        Energy Performance Evaluation Method for Machining Systems Towards Energy Saving and Emission Reduction

        Energy performance improvement is a basic significant way of addressing both energy security and environment concerns, which can promote energy-saving and emission-reduction. There are various measures of energy performance, with different purposes and applications. However, there are few models or approaches for measuring and quantifying energy saving potential in machining systems. To better perform the energy performance analysis and evaluating energy saving potential in machining, an energy performance evaluation method based on energy benchmark in machining systems is addressed. Energy performance characteristics is analysed, and some energy performance concepts and indicators are proposed. The energy performance evaluation based on energy benchmark is developed for machining systems. Furthermore, a case study involving the establishment of an energy performance evaluation and energy saving potential for gears in a real machining plant was examined, illustrating the practicability of the proposed method.

        Purification and Identification of a Natural Antioxidant Protein from Fertilized Eggs

        Fertilized hen eggs are rich in a variety of bioactive ingredients. In this study, we aimed to obtain an antioxidant protein from fertilized eggs and the radical scavenging abilities on 1, 1- diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydroxyl radical (•OH), superoxide anion (O2-•) were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the purified protein. During 20 d of incubation, the radical scavenging ability of protein extracted from fertilized eggs exhibited significantly differences and the protein on day 16 showed higher antioxidant capacity. Based on this, the antioxidant protein of the samples on day 16 were isolated for the follow-up study. With a molecular weight 43.22 kDa, the antioxidant protein was purified by Diethylaminoethyl cellulose -52 (DEAE-52) column and Sephadex G-100. The LC-MS analysis showed that the purified protein molecular weight was 43.22 kDa, named D2-S. The sequence of amino acids was highly similar to ovalbumin and the coverage reached to 84%. The purified protein showed a radical scavenging rate of 52.34±3.27% on DPPH and 63.49±0.25% on •OH, respectively. Furthermore, the C-terminal amino acid sequence was NAVLFFGRCVSP, which was consistent with the sequence of ovabumin. These results here indicated that purified protein may be a potential resource as a natural antioxidant.

        Biodiesel production from the esterification of fatty acid over organophosphonic acid

        Biodiesel production from the esterification of fatty acid (stearic acid) with ethanol catalyzed by PA/NaY(PA = organophosphonic acid, NaY = NaY molecular sieve) was investigated, and the effects of PA loading,catalyst amount, molar ratio of ethanol to acid, reaction time and temperature on the esterificationreaction were examined. The optimumvalues for maximum esterification percentage can be obtained byusing a Box–Behnken center-united design with a minimum of experimental work. The pseudohomogeneous(PH) model has been used to simulate the experimental data, and the calculated values ofArrhenius coefficient and activation energy are 6.394 103 and 70.51 kJ/mol, respectively.

        Personality Characteristics of Male Sufferers of Chronic Tension-Type and Cervicogenic Headache

        Background and Purpose Chronic tension-type headache (a primary headache disorder)and cervicogenic headache (a secondary headache disorder that is attributable to upper cervical spine pathology) share similar clinical manifestations, but their associated personality traits may differ. We evaluated the personality differences between sufferers of chronic tension-type headache and cervicogenic headache. Methods We administered the Zuckerman-Kuhlman Personality Questionnaire (ZKPQ) and the Zuckerman Sensation-Seeking Scale (SSS) to 18 patients suffering from chronic tensiontype headache, 19 suffering from cervicogenic headache, and 26 healthy volunteers. Depressive trends were measured with the Plutchik-van-Praag Depression Inventory (PVP). Results Compared to healthy controls, the chronic tension-type headache group scored significantly higher on ZKPQ Neuroticism-Anxiety and on the PVP, while the cervicogenic headache group scored significantly lower on SSS Thrill and Adventure Seeking. In addition, the total SSS score was significantly lower in the cervicogenic headache group than in both the chronic tension-type headache group and the healthy controls. Conclusions The results of this study indicate that higher scores for neuroticism-anxiety and depression were associated with chronic tension-type headache, while lower sensation-seeking scores were associated with cervicogenic headache.

        A Concise Design for Irradiating U-10Zr Metallic Fuel at Very Low Burnup

        In order to investigate the swelling behavior and fuelecladding interaction mechanism ofUe10Zr alloy metallic fuel at very low burnup, an irradiation experiment was conciselydesigned and conducted on the China Mianyang Research Reactor. Two types of irradiationsamples were designed for studying free swelling without restraint and the fuelecladdinginteraction mechanism. A new bonding material, namely, pure aluminum powder, wasused to fill the gap between the fuel slug and sample shell for reducing thermal resistanceand allowing the expansion of the fuel slug. In this paper, the concise irradiation rig designis introduced, and the neutronic and thermalehydraulic analyses, which were carried outmainly using MCNP (Monte Carlo N-Particle) and FLUENT codes, are presented. Out-of-piletests were conducted prior to irradiation to verify the manufacturing quality and hydraulicperformance of the rig. Nondestructive postirradiation examinations using cold neutronradiography technology were conducted to check fuel cladding integrity and swellingbehavior. The results of the preliminary examinations confirmed the safety and effectivenessof the design.

        Numerical Simulation on Damage and Failure Mechanism of Rock under Combined Multiple Strain Rates

        <P>During underground hard-rock mining, the drilling and blasting method currently remains the most economical excavation method, and the rock may experience a multistrain-rate spectrum under quasi-static, dynamic, and rheological loading conditions and their combination as well. The study on the damage mechanism of rock under multistrain-rate condition that induced by mining excavation is the fundamental issue for predicting the mining-induced hazards such as rockburst. In this study, the state of the art of rock damage and failure under different strain rates is reviewed first. Then, the numerical model for rock failure under multiple strain rates is formulated when the rock damage is taken as the main thread. Meanwhile, we summarize our work in this area over the past ten years, and the constitutive law for the damage and failure of rock under multistrain rates is presented. Finally, several numerical examples, i.e., rock damage and failure under combined static and dynamic load, rock damage and failure triggered by dynamic stress redistribution due to excavation, rock damage and failure induced by blasting, and rock damage and failure due to the combination of dynamic disturbance and rheological load, are presented. Based on these numerical simulations, the associated rock damage mechanism and failure behaviors under differently combined multiple strain rates are clarified, which may provide a theoretical basis for clarifying the rock failure mechanism during rockbursts and rock blasting. Also, further studies on the damage and failure of rock under multiple strain rates are suggested.</P>

        Immunogenicity of recombinant Lactobacillus plantarum NC8 expressing goose parvovirus VP2 gene in BALB/c mice

        Goose parvovirus (GPV) continues to be a threat to goose farms and has significant economic effects on the production of geese. Current commercially available vaccines only rarely prevent GPV infection. In our study, Lactobacillus (L.) plantarum NC8 was selected as a vector to express the VP2 gene of GPV, and recombinant L. plantarum pSIP409-VP2/NC8 was successfully constructed. The molecular weight of the expressed recombinant protein was approximately 70 kDa. Mice were immunized with a 2 × 109 colony-forming unit/200 mL dose of the recombinant L. plantarum strain, and the ratios and numbers of CD11c+, CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+, and interferon gamma- and tumor necrosis factor alpha-expressing spleen lymphocytes in the pSIP409-VP2/NC8 group were higher than those in the control groups. In addition, we assessed the capacity of L. plantarum SIP409-VP2/NC8 to induce secretory IgA production. We conclude that administered pSIP409-VP2/NC8 leads to relatively extensive cellular responses. This study provides information on GPV infection and offers a clear framework of options available for GPV control strategies.

        The Impacts of Childhood Trauma on Psychosocial Features in a Chinese Sample of Young Adults

        Objective The aims of the present study were to explore the occurrence of childhood trauma and importantly to determine the impacts of childhood trauma on psychosocial features in a Chinese sample of young adults. Methods A survey was carried out in a group of 555 university students by using Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Dysfunctional Attitudes Questionnaire (DAS), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). The moderate-severe cut-off scores for CTQ were used to calculate the prevalence of childhood trauma, and then psychosocial features were compared between individuals with and without childhood trauma. Results A proportion of 18.6% of university students had self-reported childhood trauma exposures. Subjects with childhood trauma reported higher scores of SDS, SAS, DAS, and psychoticism and neuroticism dimensions of EPQ (t=4.311–5.551, p<0.001); while lower scores of SSRS and extraversion dimension of EPQ (t=-4.061– -3.039, p<0.01). Regression analyses further revealed that scores of SAS and DAS were positively (Adjusted B=0.211–0.230, p<0.05), while scores of SSRS were negatively (Adjusted B=-0.273– -0.240, p<0.05) associated with specific CTQ scores. Conclusion Childhood trauma is still a common social and psychological problem. Individuals with childhood trauma show much more depression, anxiety, distorted cognition, personality deficits, and lower levels of social support, which may represent the social and psychological vulnerability for developing psychiatric disorders after childhood trauma experiences.
