Linoleic-acid (LA) is covalently conjugated to carboxymethyl-chitosan via a 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyyl)-carbodiimide-med-iated (EDC-mediated) reaction to generate self-aggregated chitosan nanoparticles by sonication. The average diameter of the particles isloading experiments indicate that the loading capacity and eciency increase with increasing concentration of ADR. ADR is slowlyreleased from chitosan self-aggregates for about 3 days. Furthermore, the eects of drug controlled release become more obvious onincreasing the pH value.
Biodiesel production from the esterification of fatty acid over organophosphonic acid
Wei Liu,Xiguang Liu,Shaohua Zhang,Rongjun Qu 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.21 No.1
Biodiesel production from the esterification of fatty acid (stearic acid) with ethanol catalyzed by PA/NaY(PA = organophosphonic acid, NaY = NaY molecular sieve) was investigated, and the effects of PA loading, catalyst amount, molar ratio of ethanol to acid, reaction time and temperature on the esterificationreaction were examined. The optimumvalues for maximum esterification percentage can be obtained byusing a Box–Behnken center-united design with a minimum of experimental work. The pseudohomogeneous(PH) model has been used to simulate the experimental data, and the calculated values ofArrhenius coefficient and activation energy are 6.394 103 and 70.51 kJ/mol, respectively.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Malnutrition has multiple impacts on surgical success, postoperative complications, duration of hospital stay, and costs, particularly for cancer patients. There are various nutrition risk screening tools available for clinical use. Herein, we aim to determine the most appropriate nutritional risk screening system for esophageal cancer (EC) patients in China. SUBJECTS/METHODS: In total, 138 EC patients were enrolled in this study and evaluated by experienced nurses using three different nutritional screening tools, the Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 tool (NRS2002), the Patient-generated Subjective Globe Assessment (PG-SGA), and the Nutrition Risk Index (NRI).We compared sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios, and Youden index generated by each of the three screening tools. Finally, cut-off points for all three tools were re-defined to optimize and validate the best nutritional risk screening tool for assessing EC patients. RESULTS: Our data suggested that all three screening tools were 100% sensitive for EC patients, while the specificities were 44.4%, 2.96%, and 59.26% for NRS 2002, PG-SGA, and NRI, respectively. NRI had a higher positive likelihood ratio as well as a higher area under the receiver operating characteristic curve compared to those of NRS 2002 and PG-SGA; although, all three tools had null negative likelihood ratios. After adjusting the cut-off points, the specificity and accuracy for all tools were significantly improved, however, the NRI remained the most appropriate nutritional risk screening system for EC patients. CONCLUSIONS: The NRI is the most suitable (highest sensitivity and accuracy) nutritional risk screening tool for EC patients. The performance of the NRI can be significantly improved if the cut-off point is modified according to the results obtained using MedCalc software.

The agricultural residuals buckwheat hulls in the region of Jiaodong, China (BHJC) were employed to adsorb Au(III) ions both in the spiked samples and the gold-plating wastewater samples, and the relevant adsorption kinetics and isotherms were investigated. The investigation on the adsorption selectivity showed that BHJC displayed strong affinity for gold in the aqueous solutions. Furthermore, the process optimization was performed using response surface methodology (RSM), the quantitative relationship between the gold uptake and the different levels of experimental factors was used to work out optimized levels of these parameters.

The novel functional composite silica microspheres encapsulated by organophosphonated polystyrene(SG–PS–N–P) has been successfully synthesized. SG–PS–N–P was employed to adsorb Au(III) fromsimulated wastewater, and it exhibited excellent performance, and the maximum adsorption capacitywas 980.39 mg/g at 35 ℃. The adsorption process optimization was performed using response surfacemethodology (RSM), and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the quadratic model demonstrated that themodel was highly significant. Moreover, the regeneration capacities of SG–PS–N–P were investigated, and it has been found that the adsorption capability remains high after several cycles of adsorption–desorption.
Concrete-steel bond-slip behavior of recycled concrete: Experimental investigation
Rui Ren,Liangjie Qi,Jian-yang Xue,Xin Zhang,Hui Ma,Xiguang Liu,Togay Ozbakkaloglu 국제구조공학회 2021 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.38 No.3
In order to study the interfacial bond-slip behavior of steel reinforced recycled concrete (SRRC) under cyclic loading, thirteen specimens were designed and tested under cyclic loading and one under monotonic loading. The test results indicated that the average bond strength of SRRC decreased with the increasing replacement ratio of recycled concrete, whereas the bond strength increased with an increase in the concrete cover thickness, the volumetric stirrup ratio, and the strength of recycled concrete. The ultimate bond strength of the cyclically-loaded specimen was significantly (41%) lower than that of the companion monotonically-loaded specimen. The cyclic phenomena also showed that SRRC specimens went through the non-slip phase, initial slip phase, failure phase, bond strength degradation phase and residual phase, with all specimens exhibiting basically the same shape of the bond-slip curve. Additionally, the paper presents the equations that were developed to calculate the characteristic bond strength of SRRC, which were verified based on experimental results.
