        Lyriform vibration receptors in the web‐building spider, Nephila clavata (Araneidae: Araneae: Arachnida)

        Vibration receptors appear to be more necessary for web‐building spiders, but most knowledge of arachnid lyriform organs comes from the study of wandering spiders affected by ground vibrations. Here, we examined the fine structural aspects of the lyriform organs in the web‐building spider Nephila clavata using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) to fill the gap. The lyriform organ is found in all appendages, including the femur, patella, tibia, and metatarsal segments. A number of slit receptors of various sizes are distributed in the parallel orientation of the cuticle along the long axis. According to its fine structural characteristics, all lyriform organs of this spider are classified as a compound type with multiple cuticular slits. However, the number of cuticular slits per each lyriform organ varies considerably from a minimum of three to a maximum of 17. A total 35 pairs of lyriform organs were counted from an adult female spider. Except for small numerical variation in the 4th appendage, the distribution is remarkably constant within each appendage. Comparing the total number of cuticular slits per each appendage, the 3rd appendage has the highest number (85), but the 4th appendage shows the least number (63). Based on the total number of cuticular slits per leg segment, the patella segment seems to be the most sensitive to vibration reception in this orb‐web spider.

        The purpose or this study was to compare body composition, circumferences, VO₂max, HRmax and lumbar bone mineral density(BMD) in Korean dancers, Modern dancers, Ballet and non-dancers. Twenty four females who are aged 16-17years participated in it. Measured items for this study were body composition, circumferences, VO₂max, HRmax and lumbar(L2, L3, L4) bone mineral density. All data were analyzed by One-way ANOVA of SPSS accepting level for all significances was above p<.05. In this study, there were no significant differences between groups on the body composition, circumference, HRrest, HRmax, and lumbar BMD were except VO₂max, On the other hand, Korean dancer group was the lowest level in BMD among groups but it has no significance.

        인천 인현동 호프집 화재 피해자 분석

        Purpose : This study was conducted to develop field triage, transportation, distribution, and prehospital care at a fire disaster by analyzing the victims of the fore that broke out at a bar in Incheon. Method : We analyzed the cases of the victims of a fire in Incheon in Oct. 1999. We determined the primary care hospital, the arrival time, the burn size, the outcome, and the injury type from the medical records, the concerned organ records, and interviews with concerned persons. Result : The total number of victims was 137: 56 prehospital deaths, 1 hospital death, and 80 survivals. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the burn size and the severity was -0.175. There were 121(89.6%) cases of inhalation injury, 59 (43.7%) cases of flame burns, 66 (48.9%) cases of hypoxic brain damage, and 16 (11.9%) cases involving other types of injury. Conclusion : The causes of death of the fire victims were inhalation injury and hypoxic brain damage due to CO poisoning and other toxic inhalants. We propose the use of a simple triage and rapid treatment(START) system and a reassessment the delayed category in fire disasters.

        Subacute Oral Toxicity and Bacterial Mutagenicity Study of a Mixture of Korean Red Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) and Salvia plebeia R. Br. Extracts

        As various populations are rapidly becoming an aging society worldwide and interest in health issues has increased, demand for functional foods including herbal products has increased markedly to maintain a healthy state which has led to safety issues about their intake as an inevitable result. The objective of this study was to identify the safety profile of a Korean red ginseng and Salvia plebeia R. Br. extract mixture (KGC-03-PS) which is a valuable ingredient that can be used as a functional food. In the present study, the subacute oral toxicity and bacterial reverse mutagenicity of KGC-03-PS were evaluated. Sprague Dawley rats were administered KGC-03-PS orally for 28 days by gavage. Daily KGC-03-PS dose concentrations were 0, 500, 1,000, or 2,000 mg/kg body weight (bw) per day. Bacterial reverse mutation test with KGC-03-PS dose levels ranging from 312.5 to $5,000{\mu}g/plate$ was carried out by OECD test guideline No. 471. Five bacterial strains (Salmonella typhimurium TA98, TA100, TA1535, TA1537, and Escherichia coli WP2) were tested in the presence or absence of metabolic activation by plate incorporation method. There were no toxicological effects related with test substance in the clinical evaluation of subacute oral toxicity test including clinical signs, body weight, and food consumption. Moreover, no toxicological changes related to KGC-03-PS were observed in the hematological and serum biochemical characteristics as well as in the pathological examinations, which included organ weight measurements and in the gross- or histopathological findings. KGC-03-PS did not induce an increase in the number of revertant colonies in all bacterial strains of the bacterial reverse mutation test. The no-observed-adverse-effect level of KGC-03-PS is greater than 2,000 mg/kg bw/day, and KGC-03-PS did not induce genotoxicity related to bacterial reverse mutations under the conditions used in this study.

        Subacute oral toxicity and bacterial mutagenicity study of Korean Red Ginseng oil

        Background: Red ginseng oil (RGO) is produced by supercritical CO₂ extraction of secondary products derived from Korean Red Ginseng extract. As the use of RGO has increased, product safety concerns have become more important. Methods: In the present study, the subacute oral toxicity and bacterial reverse mutagenicity of RGO were evaluated. SpragueeDawley rats were orally administered with RGO for 28 d by gavage. Daily RGO dose concentrations were 0 mg/kg body weight (bw), 500 mg/kg bw, 1,000 mg/kg bw, or 2,000 mg/kg bw per day. Bacterial reverse mutation tests included five bacterial strains (Escherichia coli WP2 and Salmonella typhimurium TA98, TA100, TA1535, and TA1537), which were used in the presence or absence of metabolic activation. The plated incorporation method for mutation test was used with RGO concentrations ranging from 312.5 mg to 5,000 mg per plate. Results: The subacute oral toxicity test results did not reveal any marked changes in clinical characteristics. There were no toxicological changes related to RGO administration in hematological and serum biochemical characteristics in either control or treatment animals. Furthermore, no gross or histopathological changes related to RGO treatment were observed. The bacterial reverse mutation test results did not reveal, at any RGO concentration level and in all bacterial strains, any increase in the number of revertant colonies in the RGO treatment group compared to that in the negative control group. Conclusion: The no-observed-adverse-effect level of RGO is greater than 2,000 mg/kg bw and RGO did not induce genotoxicity related to bacterial reverse mutations.

        Open Hardware Platforms for Internet of Things : Evaluation & Analysis

        In this paper, we present open hardware platforms for Internet of Things (IoTs) emphasizing their strengths and weaknesses. We introduce six representative platforms, Raspberry PI, Arduino, Garileo, Edison, Beagle board and Artik. We define important performance issues for open hardware platforms for IoTs and analyze recent platforms according to the performance issues. We present recent research project using open hardware platforms introduced in this paper. We believe that this paper provide wise view and necessary information for open hardware platforms for Internet of Things (IoT).

        척추 수술 후 영상 평가: 초기 및 중장기 합병증

        척추 수술의 빈도 증가와 더불어 radiography, CT, MRI 등의 의료 영상 촬영 건수도 증가하고 있으며, 이와 관련된 영상 판독의 중요성이 점점 더 커지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 척추 수술후 발생 가능한 다양한 합병증을 이해하고, 이를 정확하고 효과적으로 진단하는 영상 검사의중요 소견에 대해 다루고자 한다. 특히, 수술 후 초기 및 중장기 합병증을 구분하여, 각 시기별특징적인 영상 소견을 자세히 설명한다. 척추 수술 후 초기 합병증으로는 부적절한 수술 기구배치(instrument malposition), 장액종(seroma), 혈종(hematoma), 거짓수막류(pseudomeningocele), 수술 주변 감염(infection) 등이 있으며, 중장기 합병증으로는 수술 기구 주변의 골용해(osteolysis), 융합 실패(failure of fusion), 인접 분절 질환(adjacent segment disease), 경막외 섬유화 또는 흉터 조직(epidural fibrosis or scar) 형성 등이 포함된다. 이러한척수 수술 후 발생하는 합병증 관련 영상 평가에 대한 정확한 이해는 척추 수술 후 합병증을적시에 정확하게 진단하여 효과적인 환자 치료에 기여할 것이다. As the number of spinal surgeries being performed expands, the number of medical imaging procedures such as radiography, CT, and MRI is also increasing, and the importance of their interpretation is becoming more significant. Herein, we present the radiological findings of a variety of complications that can occur after spinal surgery and discuss how effectively and accurately they can be diagnosed through imaging. In particular, this study details the characteristic imaging findings specific to the early and long-term postoperative periods. Early complications of spinal surgery include improper placement of surgical instruments (instrument malpositioning), seromas, hematomas, pseudomeningoceles, and infections in the region surrounding the surgical site. Conversely, long-term complications may include osteolysis around surgical instruments, failure of fusion, adjacent segment disease, and the formation of epidural fibrosis or scar tissue. A precise understanding of the imaging assessments related to complications arising after spinal surgery is crucial to ensure timely and accurate diagnosis, which is necessary to achieve effective treatment.
