        Discriminative detection of indoor volatile organic compounds using a sensor array based on pure and Fe-doped In<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> nanofibers

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Representative indoor volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene, xylene, toluene, formaldehyde, and ethanol need to be detected in a highly sensitive and discriminative manner because of their different impact on human health. In this study, pure and 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 at% Fe-doped In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning and their gas sensing characteristics toward the aforementioned VOCs were investigated. The doping of In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> nanofiber sensor with 0.05 and 0.1 at% Fe shifted the temperature to show the maximum responses to benzene, xylene, and toluene, and reduced responses to ethanol and formaldehyde, thus demonstrating changed gas selectivity. The gas sensing characteristics of 0.5 at% Fe-doped In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> nanofiber sensor were substantially different from those of the other sensors. Significantly different gas sensing patterns of pure and Fe-doped In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> sensors could be used to discriminate between the five different VOCs at 375 °C and to distinguish between the aromatic and non-aromatic gases at all sensing temperatures.         Factors of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Outcome for In-hospital Adult Patients

        BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) outcome for in-hospital adult patients, acquiring data with standardized reporting guideline of in-hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation in Korea. METHODS: All adult cardiac arrest patients from July 2004 to December 2006 in this general hospital were included. Their clinical spectrums were reviewed retrospectively using Utstein-style based template. RESULTS: For the study time period, one hundred and forty-two patients underwent cardiac arrest in this hospital. 136 patients were performed CPR. Return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) occurred in 42 cases, and 15 patients were survived to hospital discharge.         소청용장(小靑龍湯)이 생쥐의 폐(肺) 대식세포(大食細胞) Cytokine 귀전자(遣傳子) 발현에 미치는 영향

        In many recent studies, molecular biological methods have been used to investigate the role of cytokines in pathogenesis of lung disease. This Experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of Sochungyong-tang on gene expressions in Mouse Alveolar Macrophage. Fer this purpose, we observed the cytokines ($IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6, IL-10, iNOS, $MIP-1{\alpha},\;MIP-1{\beta},\;MIP-1{\gamma},\;TGF-{\beta},\;TNF-{\alpha}$). We picked the alveolar macrophage out of mice and cultured it. We analyzed the cytokine gene expression by reverse transcription-PCR. The results obtained were as follows : 1 . Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on $IL-1{\beta}$ in time and concentration. 2. Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on IL-6 in time and concentration. 3. Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on IL-10 in concentration. 4. Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on iNOS. 5. Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on $TGF-{\beta}$ in time and concentration. 6. Sochungyong-tang showed on inhibitory effects on $MIP-1{\alpha},\;MIP-1{\beta},\;MIP-1{\gamma}$, $TCF-{\beta}$, $TNF-{\alpha}$. According to above results, it is supposed that Sochungyong-tang has the inhibitory effects on cytokine gene expression in mouse alveolar macrophage and can be usefully applied for curing inflammatory process of lung disease. Advanced studies are required to investigate the cure mechanism of Sochungyong-tang in the future.

        Clinical Significance of Positive Surgical Margin after Radical Prostatectomy according to Pathological Stage

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the positive surgical margin (PSM) as a predictive factor of biochemical recurrence (BCR) in prostate cancer (PCa) patients after radical prostatectomy (RP) according to each pathological stage. Materials and Methods: The records of 3,037 patients receiving RP were retrospectively reviewed. All patients were divided into 6 groups depending on pathological stage and presence of PSM. Cox proportional hazard analyses were performed to show the significance of PSM in all patients and in subgroup patients (T2, T3a, and T3b). The Kaplan-Meier analysis showed BCR-free survival rate of each group. Results: Among total 3.307 patients, the mean age was 65.89 years and PSM rate was 18.7%. During the 47.1 months, 550 patients had experienced BCR (26.2%). According to groups, prostate-specific antigen, Gleason score, and BCR were significantly different. Ten-year BCR-free survival rate was 87.1% (T2R0), 65.9% (T2R1), 60.1% (T3aR0), 43.0% (T3aR1), 20.8% (T3bR0), and 5.8% (T3bR1). Each group had statistical differences with BCR-free survival except T2R1 and T3aR0 (p=0.090). PSM was significant in multivariate Cox analyses in total patients (hazard ratio, 2.091; 95% confidence interval, 1.724–2.536; p<0.001) and in all subgroup with each stages. Conclusions: PSM is a significant predictor to BCR after RP in all PCa patients and in each stage. T2R1 PCa had a similar BCR-free survival rate to T3R0 patients during long-term follow-up, therefore careful management to T2R1 PCa as T3 should be necessary.

        Fine-needle aspiration cytology is the current diagnostic approach in identifying medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) neck lymph node metastases. However, it is not frequently proposed as a routine procedure in patients with high-serum calcitonin (CT) because of its low sensitivity and specificity. A few study evaluated CT measurement in wash-out fluid from fine-needle aspiration biopsy (CT-FNAB), a promising tool for the detection of metastatic lymph node in MTC. We describe two cases of MTC patients with neck lymph node recurrence who were identified by elevation of CT-FNAB and confirmed on surgical pathology. Metastatic lymph nodes from one patient had both positive CT-FNAB and conventional cytology for MTC recurrence, while another patient showed positive CT-FNAB and negative cytology specimen for lymph node metastases. CT-FNAB can be a highly sensitive and reliable diagnostic procedure to identify recurrent/metastatic MTC.

        Head-to-head comparison of <sup>11</sup> C-PiB and <sup>18</sup> F-FC119S for Aβ imaging in healthy subjects, mild cognitive impairment patients, and Alzheimer's disease patients

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>As a new beta amyloid (Aβ) positron emission tomography (PET) tracer, <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S has shown higher cortical uptake in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) than that in healthy control subjects without adverse effects in a previous preliminary study. The aim of this study was to compare <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S PET and <SUP>11</SUP>C-PiB PET in healthy control (HC) subjects, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) patients, and AD patients.</P><P>A total of 48 subjects, including 28 HC subjects, 10 MCI patients, and 10 AD patients, underwent static <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S PET (30 minutes after intravenous [i.v.] injection) and <SUP>11</SUP>C-PiB PET (40 minutes after i.v. injection) on the same day. Both PET images were visually and quantitatively assessed. Standardized uptake value ratios (SUVRs) were calculated for each brain region using the cerebellar cortex as a reference region.</P><P>None (0%) of the 28 HC subjects and 4 (40%) of 10 MCI patients had positive scans on both PET images. Of the 10 AD patients, 7 (70%) had positive scans on <SUP>11</SUP>C-PiB PET while 6 (60%) had positive scans on <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S PET. Overall, 47 (98%) of 48 participants showed identical results based on visual analysis. Cortical SUVR of <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S was higher in AD patients (1.38 ± 0.16), followed by that in MCI patients (1.24 ± 0.10) and in HC subjects (1.14 ± 0.05). Compared with <SUP>11</SUP>C-PiB PET, <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S PET yielded a higher effect size (<I>d</I> = 2.02 vs. 1.67) in AD patients and a slightly lower effect size (<I>d</I> = 1.26 vs. 1.38) in MCI patients. In HC subjects, the nonspecific binding of <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S to white matter (with the frontal cortex-to-white matter SUV ratio of 0.76) was slightly lower than that of <SUP>11</SUP>C-PiB (ratio of 0.73). There was a significant linear correlation (slope = 0.41, <I>r</I> = 0.78, <I>P</I> < 0.001) between <SUP>11</SUP>C-PiB and <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S cortical SUVR.</P><P>We could safely obtain images similar to <SUP>11</SUP>C-PiB PET imaging Aβ in the brain using <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S PET. Therefore, <SUP>18</SUP>F-FC119S might be suitable for imaging Aβ deposition.</P>

        하악골 골절에 대한 수술 시 예방적 항생제 사용과 술후 항생제 투여의 효율성

        Purpose: This study compared the frequency of postoperative infections in patients for a closed mandibular fracture with that without the postoperative antibiotic prophylaxis. Patients and Methods: 48 patients without any specific medical history were divided into two groups depending on whether or not antibiotics had been applied after the surgery. The 24 patients in group 1 received only a second-generation cephalosporin (Cefotetan) intravenously from admission to immediate after the surgery. Likewise, 24 patients in group 2 received 1.0g of Cefotetan􀋓 twice daily longer than the third day after surgery. The mean (SD) duration of antibiotics administration after surgery was 6.9 (±3.56). The patients were evaluated after surgery for any postoperative infections according to the criteria: purulent drainage from a wound, spontaneous wound dehiscence accompanied by swelling, pain, and fever around the wound. Results: Postoperative infections were encountered in 2 out of 24 patients in group 1, who received antibiotic medication until shortly after surgery, and in 3 out of the 24 patients in group 2, in whom the medication was continued even after the surgery. There was no sig nificant difference in the incidence of postoperative infections between the two groups. Conclusion: From this study, postoperative use of antibiotics seems to be unnecessary with view of the little significance of the factors that could affect the wound infection.

        샤인머스켓 포장을 위한 데이터베이스 기반 조합형 저울 설계

        Shine Muscat is packaged in a way that combines the weight of several bunches using a single scale. This takes a lot of time and cost, and it is difficult to optimally calculate the total weight of the combined bunches and determine the bunch weight which is one of the factors that determine the quality of the Shine Muscat. Therefore, in this paper, a combination weigher consisting of 12 scales was developed. Combination weigher has the advantage of quikly calculating combinations based on the range of three elements set by the user and providing multi-sensory feedback using LEDs and buzzers. And in order to minimize the loss due to weight, an optimal combination algorithm was applied to extract the combination with the lowest sum of weight among combinations that satisfy the condition In addition, by storing and visualizing the bunch weight obtained in the process of packaging the Shine Muscat in the database, it is possible to check the distribution and uniformity on a monthly or yearly basis.

        기업별 마케팅 활동과 산업별 특성을 고려한 기업의 사회적 책임활동이 기업가치에 미치는 장기적 영향에 관한 연구

        Research on CSR has been conducted in many business disciplines. An important issue regarding the CSR is whether it should be considered as a simple expense or an investment that contributes to the firms` value in the long run. In this research, we attempted to answer four important questions. First, can CSR activities increase firms` long term value? Second, do CSR activities have a long term effect on firm`s long term value? Third, do other marketing related variables (e.g. R/D, AD, customer satisfaction) interact with CSR activities on their effects to firm`s long term value? Fourth, how do the effects of CSR activities differ by industries?In this research, a hierarchical linear model (HLM) provides meaningful results. The results show that CSR activities indeed contribute to firm`s long term value. Moreover, the long term effect of CSR activities is much stronger than the short term effect on the firm value. Firm`s expenditure on advertisements and customer satisfaction positively reinforces the effect of CSR on firm`s value, but R/D does not show such effect. CSR contributes to firm`s value in all industry, but the magnitude of the effect differs by industries. This research shows that the effect of CSR on firm`s value can be modified with other marketing related variables, which can trigger the necessity to study other significant moderators. Moreover, this research can provide managers in various industries with meaningful information that can support them in making more rational decisions beyond their intuition.

      • Development of a Mobile Application, "Wild Flowers of Bukhansan National Park (version 1.0)", for Identification of Plants in Bukhansan National Park

        We developed the educational purpose mobile application, named "Wild Flowers of Bukhansan National Park (version 1.0)", aiming for easy identification of wild flowers for students and visitors in the park. When visitors find a flower or part of plant in the park, visitors can search for its name utilizing the pictures and characters provided in their own smartphone mobile devices or tablet PCs. The application provides pictures of wild flowers in the park and character-based searching system based on 12 diagnostic features (e.g., growth form, leaf arrangement, flower symmetry, petal color, petal number, sepal number, etc). We adopted the complete floristic survey of Chung and Lee (1962) and added species that we confirmed their distribution in the park during the development of this application. In summary, number of vascular plants in this park was estimated to be 428 taxa including 100 families, 280 genera, 327 species, 1 subspecies, 50 varieties, and 5 formas. We provided a total of 588 pictures representing 358 taxa and each taxon includes multiple pictures in many cases. Included identification quizzes can be an efficient educational tool as well as fun activity for students and visitors who are learning plant species in Korea. Our next step will include GPS function in the application for indicating visitor's location and for providing previously reported sites of the species that we interested in the map of the park. The future application which includes GPS function will be a valuable tool for the monitoring of rare plants, plant researches related to the climate changes, etc. We currently provide Korean iPhone version only, and English version and both of android versions will be serviced soon.
