Soybean hull functionalized by phosphoric acid for sorption of copper from aqueous solution

One kind of potentially biodegradable cationic sorbent, which bears hydroxyl groups of phosphoric acid as its functional groups, with high sorption capacity of copper was prepared by thermochemically esterifying phosphoric acid (PA) onto soybean hull. Sorption of Cu(Ⅱ) from aqueous solution onto modified soybean hull (MSH) was investigated in a batch system. The sorption experiments were performed under various conditions such as different initial pH, copper concentration, MSH dosage, and contact time. The maximum copper sorption was obtained when initial solution pH≥3.5. The isothermal data of copper sorption fitted the Langmuir model and the sorption process could be described by the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The maximum sorption capacity (Qm) of MSH for Cu(Ⅱ) was 31.55 mg/g. For 100 mg/l of Cu(Ⅱ) solution, a sorption ratio above 91% could be achieved by 5.0 g/l of MSH. The equilibrium of Cu(Ⅱ) sorption was reached within 50 min. The foreign cation and chelator in Cu(Ⅱ) solution caused decline of Cu(Ⅱ) sorption.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of oncology ward nurses toward cancer pain management and to find ways to improve the educational program for nurses. Method: A total of 209 nurses working at the oncology ward of three hospitals in Seoul and a Gyenggi Province. The survey instrument used was the 32-item scale for evaluating nurses knowledge and attitudes originally developed by McCaffery and Ferrell'(1990). that was by Kim'(1997). Result: In terms of the nurses knowledge of pain management. the result showed that the nurses scored an average of 67.8 out of 100 for phamacokinetics of opioids. 84.8 for classification of analgesics, 60.1 for pain assessment, and 70.7 for drug administration. 18.2% of the nurses hesitate to inject the narcotic agent because of concerns regarding the drug's potential side effects. there was significant difference in the knowledge of pain management according to the general characteristics of pain in terms of the nurses age(p=.001), position (p=.016). years of experiences(p=.002), experience of cancer pain education(p= .001). Conclusion: The also showed that nurses working at cancer ward lack knowledge. It is important to provide intensive education to nurses about cancer pain management.

Supercritical fluids (SCF) are useful substances that are recently used in bioseparation process. Extraction of carthamin from safflower using supercritical carbon dioxide were examined at various conditions of temperature (35∼40℃), pressure (3000∼5000 psi) and CO₂ flow rate (900∼1200 m/hr). SCF was less effective than solvent methods in carthamin extraction from safflower. Concentration of carthamin was 50% more efficent at the use of alginate beads with 35 g cellulose per column loadings compared to the control (15g cellulose per column loadings).

When produce manufactures, there use to maintain its form weight substitioin and addition among the viscosity agent each Silica-fume and Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulos. Testing method was to operate slump, air content, compressive strength test, splitting tensile strength test, rapid freezing and thawing test.

The objectives of the present study is to solve problems in PC tile before-fixing method using ordinary concrete by adopting the liquefaction method in manufacturing PC to which the tile before-fixing method is applied, and to provide basic information for the practical use of the PC tile before-fixing method, which uses high workable concrete, through manufacturing a complex body based on the optimal mix proportion.

This study was performed to investigate the disinfection efficiency and the formation characteristics of disinfection by-products(DBPs) by chlorination in the sewage effluent. The effluent was sampled from the sewage treatment plants operated in the activated sludge process and the advanced sewage process. The type of DBPs investigated were Trihalomethanes(THMs), Dichloroacetonitrile(DCAN), Chloral hydrate(CH), Dichloroacetic acid(DCAA), Trichloroacetic acid(TCAA). Major findings are as follows. First, the optimum injection concentration for chlorination in sewage effluent were found to be in the range 0.5 ~ 1.0 ㎎ Cl₂/L. Also, It was found that the chlorine dosage in the effluent of activated sludge process was higher than in the effluent of advanced sewage process. Second, the maximum formation concentration of THMs were 12.7 μg/L. The THMs formation reaction was finished in a short time of several seconds and chloroform was mainly formed. Also, it was found that the concentration of ammonium nitrogen is higher, the concentration of THMs is lower. Third, it was found that DCAA and TCAA were mainly formed as DBPs by disinfection.

Recently, as the Smart Phone is rapidly disseminated worldwide, it is emerging as an important digital communication media changing the communication types of users. We use the Smart Phone in all aspect of daily life besides communication. The Smart Phone is indispensible tool that has a great ripple effect on our daily life. Therefore, if the Smart Phone users lose or do not bring their phones, they were troubled. In this paper, we make users available to use the Smart Phone, even if they lose or do not bring their phones. To do this end, we develop features that search the phone in case of not knowing where it is, that contact another phone in case of not bringing their phone, that lock the phone in case of losing it. We expect these features promote a expansion and a vitality of the Smart Phone market.
Pulsatile Ocular Blood Flow in Healthy Koreans

Purpose: To determine the normal reference range of pulsatile ocular blood flow (POBF) values in healthy Korean subjects and to find out the factors that may affect them. Methods: A total of 280 eyes of 280 normal subjects were included in this study. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), axial length, POBF, systemic blood pressure, and pulse rate were measured. The mean, standard deviation, range, and the 5th and 95th percentiles of POBF were calculated, and the influences of various parameters to POBF were determined by multiple regression analyses. Results: The mean POBF value was 766.0±221.6 μl/min in men and 1021.1±249.5 μl/min in women. The 5th and 95th percentiles for POBF values were 486.0 μl/min and 1140.0 μl/min in men and 672.0 μl/min and 1458.0 μl/min in women. The POBF values were significantly influenced by gender, mean blood pressure, pulse rate, and axial length. Conclusions: Even though the POBF values were influenced by gender, BP, and axial length, we could define the normal reference range of POBF in healthy Koreans.
