Nonlinear Analysis of Single Reinforced Concrete Piles Subjected to Lateral Loading

        Ling-Yu Xu,Fei Ca,Guo-Xin Wang,Guo-Xing Chen,Yong-Yi Li 대한토목학회 2017 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.21 No.7

This paper proposes a method for the nonlinear analysis of laterally loaded single reinforced concrete piles based on the beam-onnonlinear- Winkler-foundation approach. A nonlinear fiber beam-column element is used to model the nonlinear behavior of a pile. The pile is divided into a series of segments, of which the cross section is assumed to be plane and normal to the longitudinal axis. The internal force of a segment is derived by integrating the nonlinear stress-strain relationships of all steel and concrete fibers within the cross section of the segment. The substructure technique is introduced to calculate the stiffness matrix of the segments. The nonlinear behavior of soils surrounding the pile is characterized by a modified strain wedge model. The results show that (1) the predicted results using the proposed method are consistent with the measurements for all three full-scale tested piles, and (2) updating the neutral axis of segments has a significant effect on the calculated lateral deflection; however, it has a slight effect on the calculated bending moment. Moreover, an empirical equation is derived from the numerical analyses for estimating the cracked flexural rigidity of bored piles subjected to lateral loading.

Rheological Phase Synthesis of Er-Doped LiV3O8 as Electroactive Material for a Cathode of Secondary Lithium Storage

        Ling-Ling Xie,Yuan-Dong Xu,Jie-Jie Zhang,Cheng-Peng Zhang,Xiao-Yu Cao,Ling-Bo Qu 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.4

Er-doped LiV3O8 as cathode material for secondary lithium batteries was prepared through a rheological phase reaction method. The as-prepared materials were investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and galvanostatic discharge/charge measurements. The results indicate that Er doped phase preserves the layered structure of the pristine LiV3O8 and has an enlarged interlayer spacing. Compared to LiV3O8 sample, Er-doped LiV3O8 sample displays more uniform particles and large surface area. The electrochemical test shows that Er doping does not change the process of Li+ insertion/deinsertion. Er-doped LiV3O8 electrode exhibits an initial discharge capacity of 294.2 mAh g−1 and maintains a stable capacity of 220.7 mAh g−1 after 50 cycles, indicating a greatly improved good cycleability comparing with the undoped one.

Synthesis and Electrochemical Properties of LiV3O8/PAn Composite as a Cathode Material for Lithium Secondary Batteries

        Ling-Ling Xie,Xiao-Yu Cao,Li-Xu Zhang,Zhong-Xu Dai,Ling-Bo Qu 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.2

A LiV3O8/polyaniline (PAn) composite was prepared by the in-situ polymerization method assisted by sodium dodecyl sulfate and ammonium persulfate. The as-prepared powders were investigated by XRD, SEM, and galvanostatic discharge/charge analysis. It was found that the introduction of PAn to LiV3O8 can effectively buffer the mechanical stress and restrain the number of phase changes of composite material during the electrochemical cycling. Compared with pristine LiV3O8, LiV3O8/PAn composite maintains a reversible capacity of 212.1 mAh g−1 at the current density of 30 mA g−1 after 50 cycles, approximately 22.6%, much higher than the former.

Numerical Analyses of Local Damage of Concrete Slabs by Normal Impact of Deformable Solid Projectiles

        Ling-Yu Xu,Fei Cai,Ying-Ying Xue,Chiaki Takahashi,Yong-Yi Li 대한토목학회 2019 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.23 No.12

Deformable solid projectiles undergo projectile mushrooming during impact and thus are different from rigid and soft hollow projectiles; however, limited work has been conducted on the impact of deformable solid projectiles on concrete targets. In this study, an explicit dynamic finite element procedure is employed to study nine existing experimental tests on the normal impact of a deformable solid (lead) projectile into a plain concrete (PC) slab. To correctly model the impact, both non-linear material response and progressive finite element erosion have been taken into account for the deformable solid projectile and the PC slab. The numerical results are compared with experimental results in terms of different modes of local damage to the PC slab and the maximum penetration depth of the PC slab. The mechanism of the front cratering, the scabbing, and the perforation of concrete target under the impact of deformable solid projectile and the effect of projectile rigidity on the local damage to the PC slab are investigated. A dose-response relation is used to describe the variation of the maximum penetration depth with the impact velocity. Some model parameters that most affect the simulation results are also highlighted.

      • Association between Pax8-PPARγ1 Rearrangement and Follicular Thyroid Cancer: a Meta-Analysis

        Li, Hang-Yu,Xie, Zhi-Hao,Xu, Cong-Hui,Pu, Mei-Ling,Chen, Zi-Yan,Yu, Miao,Wang, Heng-Shu,Zhou, Chen-Ming,Pu, Chao-Yu,Liu, Wei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.9

Background: Pax8 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma 1 gene (Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$) are important factors in tumors. Several studies have suggested that follicular thyroid cancer may arise from Pax8- $PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement. In order to have a better understanding of the association between Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement and follicular thyroid cancer, we conducted the presenmt meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: The information was extracted from PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science. Statistic analysis was performed with Stata12.0 software. Odds ratios (ORs) were calculated using a fixed-effects model. We also performed heterogeneity and publication bias analyses. Results: Nine studies including 198 follicular thyroid cancer patients and 268 controls were considered eligible. The frequency of Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement was significantly higher in the follicular thyroid cancer group than in the control group, with a pooled OR of 6.63 (95%CI=3.50-12.7). In addition, through subgroup analysis, the OR between Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement and follicular thyroid cancer was 6.04 (95%CI = 3.18-11.5) when using benign tumor tissues as controls. The OR for the method subgroup was 9.99 (95% CI =4.86-20.5) in the RT-PCR. Conclusions: The final results demonstrated that Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement has significant association with follicular thyroid cancer.

Hydrothermal Synthesis of Hexagonal MoO3 and Its Reversible Electrochemical Behavior as a Cathode for Li-Ion Batteries

        Yuan-Dong Xu,Ling-Ling Xie,Yu-Jun Zhang,Xiao-Yu Cao 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.5

Hexagonal molybdenum trioxide (h-MoO3) nanoparticles with a particle size of several tens of nanometers were prepared from sodium molybdate (Na2MoO4) using hydrothermal synthesis and ultrasonication. The morphology, structure, composition, and chemical states of the nanoparticles were characterized by x-ray diffraction,field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammetry results showed a strong reduction peak, which indicated a lithium ion insertion/extraction mechanism. The plateau observed in the first discharge curve around 1.8 V was in accordance with the above mechanism, which was also verified by differential capacity measurements. Cycling performance results showed that the capacity retention was up to 90% in the second cycle and that the irreversible capacities decreased with subsequent cycles.

      • Curcumin Inhibits Expression of Inhibitor of DNA Binding 1 in PC3 Cells and Xenografts

        Yu, Xiao-Ling,Jing, Tao,Zhao, Hui,Li, Pei-Jie,Xu, Wen-Hua,Shang, Fang-Fang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.3

Inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (Id1) plays an important role in genesis and metastatic progression of prostate cancer. We previously reported that down regulation of Id1 by small interfering RNA could inhibit the proliferation of PC3 cells and growth of its xenografted tumors. Curcumin, the active ingredient of turmeric, has shown anti-cancer properties via modulation of a number of different molecular regulators. Here we investigated whether Id1 might be involved in the anti-cancer effects of curcumin in vivo and in vitro. We firstly confirmed that curcumin inhibited cell viability in a dose-dependent fashion, and induced apoptosis in PC3 cells, associated with significant decrease in the mRNA and protein expression of Id1. Similar effects of curcumin were observed in tumors of the PC3 xenografted mouse model with introperitoneal injection of curcumin once a day for one month. Tumor growth in mice was obviously suppressed by curcumin during the period of 24 to 30 days. Both mRNA and protein levels of Id1 were significantly down-regulated in xenografted tumors. Our findings point to a novel molecular pathway for curcumin anti-cancer effects. Curcumin may be used as an Id1 inhibitor to modulate Id1 expression.

Pokemon Inhibits Transforming Growth Factor β-Smad4-Related Cell Proliferation Arrest in Breast Cancer through Specificity Protein 1

        Ling Chen,Jing Zhong,Jiang-Hua Liu,Duan-Fang Liao,Ying-Ying Shen,Xiao-Lin Zhong,Xiao Xiao,Wen-Jun Ding,Xiu-Da Peng,Wei Xiong,Xu-Yu Zu 한국유방암학회 2019 Journal of breast cancer Vol.22 No.1

Purpose: Pokemon, also known as ZBTB7A, belongs to the POZ and Krüppel (POK) family of transcription repressors and is implicated in tumor progression as a key proto-oncogene. This present study aimed at determining the mechanism by which Pokemon inhibits transforming growth factor β (TGFβ)-Smad4 pathway-dependent proliferation arrest of breast cancer cells via specificity protein 1 (SP1). Methods: Over-expressing plasmid or small interfering RNA (siRNA) transfection was used to regulate Pokemon levels. The EdU incorporation assay, MTS assay, and clone formation were used to identify the inhibitory effect of Pokemon siRNA on cell proliferation. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction assay confirmed that Pokemon deletion inhibited the expression of proliferation-associated genes. The dual-luciferase reporter assay, electrophoretic mobility shift assay, and co-immunoprecipitation assay were used to analyze binding between Pokemon, Smad4, and SP1. Results: Pokemon deletion induced proliferation arrest of breast cancer cells and inhibited the expression of proliferation-associated genes, especially Smad4. Pokemon bound with SP1 to interdict Smad4 promoter activity. Information on clinical samples was obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas data, in which the Pokemon mRNA levels showed a negative correlation with Smad4 levels in different subtypes of breast cancer in two independent datasets. Conclusion: We demonstrated that Pokemon binds to SP1 to down-regulate Smad4 expression, thereby promoting proliferation of breast cancer cells. This suggests that Pokemon is a potential TGFβ-signaling participant in breast cancer progression.

        Xu, Wen-Jia,Xue, Qi-Jun,Liang, Peng,Zhang, Ling-Yu,Huang, Yan-Feng,Feng, Yu Korean Chemical Society 2014 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.35 No.1

In order to explore new coordination frameworks with novel designed 3-nitrophthalic acid and the same N-donor ancillary ligand, a series of novel coordination complexes, namely, $[Cd_2(3-NPA)_2(TBZ)_2(H_2O)_2]{\cdot}2H_2O$(1), $[Zn_2(3-NPA)_2(TBZ)_2]$(2), $[Zn_2O(3-NPA)(TBZ)(H_2O)]_n$(3), $[Co(3-NPA)(TBZ)(H_2O)]_n$(4) (3-$NPAH_2$ = 3-nitrophthalic acid), have been hydrothermally synthesized through the reaction of 3-nitrophthalic acid with divalent transition-metal salts in the presence of N-donor ancillary coligand (TBZ = thiabendazole). As a result of various coordination modes of the versatile 3-$NPAH_2$ and the coligand TBZ, these complexes exhibit structural diversity. X-ray structure analysis reveals that 1 and 2 are 0D molecular rings, while 3 and 4 are one-dimensional (1D) infinite chain polymers. And the weak O-H${\cdots}$O hydrogen bonds and C-H${\cdots}$O nonclassical hydrogen bonds as well as ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking also play important roles in affecting the final structure where complexes 1, 3 and 4 have 3D supramolecular architectures, while complex 2 has a 2D supramolecular network. Also, IR spectra, fluorescence properties and thermal decomposition process of complexes 1-4 were investigated.

Synthesis, Structures and Properties of Two Metal-organic Frameworks Derived from 3-Nitro-1,2-benzenedicarboxylic Acid

        Xu, Wen-Jia,Zhang, Ling-Yu,Tang, Jin-Niu,Wang, Dai-Yin,Pan, Gang-Hong,Feng, Yu Korean Chemical Society 2013 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.34 No.8

Two metal-organic frameworks based on the connectivity co-effect between rigid benzenedicarboxylic acid and bridging ligand have been synthesized $[Zn_2(3-NO_2-bdc)_2(4,4'-bpy)_2H_2O]_n$ (1), $[Co(3-NO_2-bdc)(4,4'-bpy)H_2O]_n$ (2) (where $3-NO_2-bdcH_2$ = 3-nitro-1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 4,4'-bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine). The two novel complexes were characterized by IR spectrum, elemental analysis, fluorescent properties, thermogravimetric analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). X-ray structure analysis reveals that 1 and 2 are two-dimensional (2D) network structures. Complex 1 and complex 2 belong to triclinic crystal with P-1 space group. The luminescence measurements reveal that two complexes exhibit good fluorescent emissions in the solid state at room temperature. Also, thermal decomposition process and powder X-ray diffraction of complexes were investigated.
