        Synthesis of Composite Particles with Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> core and Ag Shell for the Development of Fingerprints

        The $Fe_3O_4$-core and Ag-shell ($Fe_3O_4@Ag$ nanoeggs) were prepared through the encapsulation of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane-coated magnetite nanoparticle in nano-Ag shell by a simple chemically controlled procedure. The $Fe_3O_4@Ag$ nanoeggs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, UV-vis spectrum and superconducting quantum interference device magnetometer, respectively. A detailed analysis is provided of how the hydrolysis and condensation of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and the pH value are vital in fabricating the $Fe_3O_4@Ag$ nanoeggs. The prepared $Fe_3O_4@Ag$ nanoeggs possessed uniform size, improved monodispersity, stability against aggregation and high magnetization, which were utilized for the detection of latent fingerprints deposited onto different surfaces. The experimental results showed that the latent fingerprints developed with the $Fe_3O_4@Ag$ nanoeggs powders exhibited excellent ridge details with minimal background staining.

        Disease vector occurrence and ecological characteristics of chiggers on the chestnut white-bellied rat Niviventer fulvescens in Southwest China between 2001 and 2019

        Chigger mites are the vector of scrub typhus. This study estimates the infestation status and ecological characteristics of chiggers on the chestnut white-bellied rat Niviventer fulvescens in Southwest China between 2001 and 2019. Chiggers were identified under the microscope, and infestation indices were calculated. The Preston’s log-normal model was used to fit the curve of species abundance distribution. A total of 6,557 chiggers were collected in 136 of 342 N. fulvescens rats, showing high overall infestation indices (prevalence=39.8%, mean abundance=19.2, mean intensity=48.2) and high species diversity (S =100, H’=3.0). Leptotrombidium cangjiangense, Neotrombicula japonica, and Ascoschoengastia sifanga were the three dominant chigger species (constituent ratio=42.9%; 2,736/6,384) and exhibited an aggregated distribution among different rat individuals. We identified 100 chigger species, with 3 of them (Leptotrombidium scutellare, Leptotrombidium wenense, and Leptotrombidium deliense) as the main vectors of scrub typhus in China and nine species as potential vectors of this disease. Disease vector occurrence on N. fulvescens may increase the risk of spreading scrub typhus from rats to humans. Chigger infestation on N. fulvescens varied significantly in different environments. The species abundance distribution showed a log-normal distribution pattern. The estimated number of chigger species on N. fulvescens was 126 species.

        상업 공간 내 빛 환경 설계 방법에 관한 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 상업 공간으로써 개인 사업자의 커피숍 공간 내 조명 연출 방향 및 빛 환경 설계 방안을 도출하는 데에 있다. 연구 방법으로는 선행연구와 현장 조사를 병행하였고 문헌 조사를 통해 상업공간 및 빛 환경에 관한 개념과 커피숍 내부 빛 환경구성 요소를 조사하여 분석 틀을 마련하였다. 이와 동시에 개인 사업자 커피숍의 개념을 토대로 서울 시내가로수길, 홍대 입구, 이태원, 건대 입구, 신촌 등의 번화가 지역을 선정하고 그중 전형적인 개인 커피숍 5곳을 대상으로 현장 조사를 진행하였다. 또한 빛 환경과 관련하여 분위기가 좋고 평가가 우수한 프랜차이즈 커피숍을 선정하여 비교 조사하였다. 마지막으로 상업공간인 개인 커피숍의 공간 빛 환경의 적절한 설계 방법을 연구하여 개인 커피숍의 빛 환경의 특징, 문제점 및 발전방향을 바탕으로 개인 사업 커피숍 공간 내 빛 환경의 설계 방법을 제안하여 보았다. 이와 같은 연구에 의해 개인 커피숍의 빛 환경 설계 방법에 관한 또 하나의 기준이 제시되고, 나아가 본 연구를 근거로 더 효과적인 설계 방법이 나올 수 있는 계기가 되었으면 한다. The purpose of this research is to derive light environment design method and lighting method within the space of private coffee shop as a commercial space. For the research method, advanced study and site investigation were executed. Through literature investigation, the composition and light environment concept within coffee shops and the characteristic related to the space within the commercial space and coffee shop were investigated for analysis. At the same time, based on personal coffee shops, coffee shops in Garosu-gil, Hongdae, Itaewon, Konkuk University area, and Shinchon were selected. From the selected coffee shops, 5 typical private coffee shops were selected for site investigation. With relations to light environment, franchise coffee shops with good evaluation and mood were selected for comparison. Lastly, design method of light environment within private coffee shop was suggested based on the development direction, element, and light environment characteristic within coffee shop space to suggest new design method. Private coffee shops needed more research related to lighting for the elements and characteristics to improve as a commercial space. Through this research, the method related to light environment design method of personal coffee shop was suggested. Moreover, there is hope that more active design method can be derived based on this research.

        Effect of Different Levels of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium on Root Activity and Chlorophyll Content in Leaves of Brassica oleracea Seedlings Grown in Vegetable Nursery Substrate

        Nutrients in the substrate are important for plant growth, particularly during the development of vegetableseedlings. The continued development of intensive methods to produce seedlings has made growing healthy and high-gradeseedlings a requirement for nurseries. This study evaluated the effect of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium(K) on the root activity, dry weight, and chlorophyll content in leaves of Brassica oleracea seedlings. D-optimal designwas used in this study because of its accuracy. A total of 10 treatments (T1–T10) were designed, and differentconcentrations were chosen in the following ranges: N (0.6-5.0 g·kg-1), P (0.2-6.0 g·kg-1), and K (0.7-7.0 g·kg-1). Our studyshows that the application of N, P, and K to the substrate significantly influenced the growth of B. oleracea seedlings. T6significantly increased root activity, root dry weight, chlorophyll content in leaves when compared with the control T1,which had added nutrient concentrations at normal levels. However, the addition of high levels of N (5.0 g·kg-1) withhigh (7.0 g·kg-1) or low (0.7 g·kg-1) levels of K (T2 and T9) not only significantly decreased the root dry weight but alsodecreased leaf area. Our results suggest that N, P, and K can be added to the substrate at an appropriate ratio togrow vigorous B. oleracea seedlings under intensive seedling production conditions. The present results give insightinto the nutrient requirements during early growth of B. oleracea seedlings in growth substrate.

        역사도시 야간 조명 이벤트 연출에 관한 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 역사도시로써 중국 소주(蘇州) 호성하(護城河)의 조명 이벤트 연출 방향을 도출하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 우선 이론적인 문헌 조사를 통해 조명 이벤트 및 역사도시에 관한 개념과 조명 이벤트의 발전 경위를 조사하여 본 논문의 목표 관점을 도출하였다. 도출된 기본 개념 및 정의를 바탕으로 국제적인 소주 호성하와 대비되는 광주(廣州) 조명 이벤트, 프랑스 리옹 조명 이벤트 및 서울 청계천 등 세곳의 야간 조명 이벤트 사례를 조사하여 조명 이벤트의 특징을 도출하여 제시하였다. 또한 소주의 도시 일반 현황, 산업, 예술, 가치, 문화에 대한 일반적인 배경과 현황을 조사하였다. 아울러 역사도시인 호성하의 야간 조명 이벤트 방향을 제안하기 위하여 조명 이벤트의 도출된 특징 및 결과를 바탕으로 소주 호성하의 야간 조명 이벤트의 연출 방향을 제시하였다. 소주 호성하를 역사 도시 브랜드로써 발전시키기 위해 도시지역 및 연구 특성과 관련된 조명 전반 연구가 필요한 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구를 통해 도출된 역사도시 야간 조명 이벤트 연출 제안을 바탕으로 앞으로도 도시별 야간 조명 이벤트에 대하여 더욱 적절한 연출방법이 개량되고 발전 되었으면 한다. The purpose of this research is to draw a plan to direct a lighting event in Suzhou moat, in China as a historical city. In order to achieve this, the objective of this paper was first determined by examining lightning events, concept of historical cities, and development of lighting events through theoretical literature review. Based on the deduced basic concept and definition, the characteristics of lighting events were presented by analyzing the cases of night lighting events in three international places: GuangZhou lighting event, lighting event in Lyon, France, and Cheonggyecheon, Seoul, which are contrasted to Suzhou moat. Also, the background and current status of general city affairs, industry, art, value, and culture of Suzhou were examined. In addition, in order to present the direction of night lighting event in moat, a historical city in Suzhou, a plan for night lighting event in Suzhou moat was proposed based on the characteristics and results of lighting events. It was analyzed that an overall lighting research related to the city area and research characteristics were needed to develop moat, Suzhou into a historical city brand. Based on the proposed plan for night lighting event in a historical city drawn through this research, it is hoped that more appropriate plans and direction for creating night lighting events are improved and developed from now on.

      • Disruption of endothelial barrier function is linked with hyposecretion and lymphocytic infiltration in salivary glands of Sjögren's syndrome

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease that causes hyposecretion in salivary glands. Endothelial tight junctions (TJs) play crucial roles in salivation and barrier function of blood vessels. However, whether the alteration of endothelial TJs were involved in pathogenesis of SS was still unknown. Here, the ultrastructure and function of endothelial TJs in submandibular glands (SMGs) were detected by transmission electron microscopy and in vivo paracellular permeability assay in different aged NOD mouse model for SS. CFSE-labeled lymphocytes were injected into tail vein to trace the infiltration, while claudin-5 expression and distribution were detected by immunofluorescence, qRT-PCR, and western blot. Results showed that the stimulated salivary flow rate was gradually decreased and lymphocytic infiltration was found as age increased in 12- and 21-week-old NOD mice, but not 7-week-old NOD mice. Blood vessels were dilated, while endothelial TJ width and paracellular tracer transport were increased in 12-week-old NOD mice. Moreover, the injected CFSE-labeled lymphocytes were observed in SMGs of 12-week-old NOD mice. Claudin-5 level was increased and relocalized from the apical portion of neighboring endothelial cells to lateral membranes and cytoplasm in 12-week-old NOD mice. Additionally, the alteration of claudin-5 expression and distribution was further confirmed in labial salivary glands and bilateral parotid glands from SS patients. In cultured human microvessel endothelial cell line (HMEC-1), IFN-γ stimulation significantly increased claudin-5 expression.         A Rapidly New-typed Detection of Norovirus Based on F0F1-ATPase Molecular Motor Biosensor

        In order to adapt port rapid detection of food borne norovirus, presently we developed a new typed detection method based on F0F1-ATPase molecular motor biosensor. A specific probe was encompassed the conservative region of norovirus and F0F1-ATPase within chromatophore was constructed as a molecular motor biosensor through the “ε-subunit antibody-streptomycinbiotin- probe” system. Norovirus was captured based on probe-RNA specific binding. Our results demonstrated that the Limit of Quantification (LOQ) is 0.005 ng/mL for NV RNA and also demonstrated that this method possesses specificity and none cross-reaction for food borne virus. What’s more, the experiment used this method could be accomplished in 1 h. We detected 10 samples by using this method and the results were consistent with RT-PCR results. Overall, based on F0F1-ATPase molecular motors biosensor system we firstly established a new typed detection method for norovirus detection and demonstrated that this method is sensitive and specific and can be used in the rapid detection for food borne virus.
