Fabrication and Photocatalytic Properties of Visible Light Responsive Cuprous Oxide Cubes

        Jiudong Lin,Feifei Tao,Congcong Sheng,Jianwei Li,Xiaoding Yu 대한화학회 2014 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.35 No.4

The cuprous oxide cubes with the special porous surface constructed by nano-prisms have been successfully fabricated by a solvothermal method. The template-free method is simple and facile without any surfactant. The X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) pattern suggests that the as-prepared product is the pure primitive cubic Cu2O. The effects of the experimental parameters, such as the reaction temperature, reaction time and the concentration of sodium acetate anhydrous, on the morphologies of the products were investigated in detail by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Based on the time-dependent experiments, the possible formation mechanism was proposed. Using photocatalytic degrading reactive dyes as the model reaction and xenon lamp to simulate sunlight, the Cu2O cubes with the porous surface might possess higher photocatalytic activity than those of the commercial Cu2O powder in the visible-light region, indicating the excellent photocatalytic performance.

        A High-Performance Self-Powered UV Photodetector Based on SnO2 Mesoporous Spheres @ TiO2

        Yuewu Huang,Qingjiang Yu,Jinzhong Wang,Xiaochao Li,Yuan Yan,Shiyong Gao,Feifei Shi,Dongbo Wang,Cuiling Yu 대한금속·재료학회 2015 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.11 No.6

A novel self-powered UV photodetector (UVPD) based on the photoelectrochemical cell (PECC) has been constructed using the TiO2 coated SnO2 mesoporous spheres (SnO2-MS@TiO2). This self-powered UVPD displays a higher photocurrent density compared to the UVPD with the pure SnO2-MS. By means of external quantum efficiency (EQE), UV-vis absorption, and electrochemical impedance measurements, we scrutinize the intrinsic role of the TiO2 coating layer on the photocurrent enhancement. Under UV irradiation, this UVPD exhibits a high on/off ratio of 11519, a fast rise time of 0.007 s and decay time of 0.006 s, together with the excellent visible-blind characteristic and linear optical signal response. The self-powered photodetector is a promising candidate for application in high-sensitivity and high-speed UVPDs.

Family History, Tobacco Smoking, and Risk of Ischemic Stroke

        Mengyu Fan,Jun Lv,Canqing Yu,Yu Guo,Zheng Bian,Songchun Yang,Ling Yang,Yiping Chen,Feifei Li,Yaoming Zhai,Ping Wang,Junshi Chen,Zhengming Chen,Lu Qi,Liming Li 대한뇌졸중학회 2019 Journal of stroke Vol.21 No.2

Background and Purpose Both genetic factors and smoking are associated with ischemic stroke (IS) risk. However, little is known about the potential interaction of these factors. We aimed to assess whether smoking and a positive family history interact to increase the risk of IS. Methods The nationwide prospective study recruited 210,000 men and 300,000 women in 2004 to 2008 at ages 30 to 79 years. During 9.7 years of follow-up, we documented 16,923 and 20,656 incident IS cases in men and women without major chronic diseases at baseline, respectively. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to examine associations between family history and IS. Likelihood ratio tests were used to test the smoking-family history interactions on IS. Results About 67.8% (n=135,168) of men ever smoked regularly compared with 2.7% (n=7,775) of women. Among men, a significant interaction between family history and smoking on IS was observed (P for interaction=0.03), with more pronounced association between family history and IS among ever-regular smokers (hazard ratio [HR], 1.21; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.16 to 1.27) than among never-smokers (HR, 1.11; 95% CI, 1.01 to 1.23). The association between family history and IS among ex-smokers after more than 10 years of cessation (HR, 1.01; 95% CI, 0.85 to 1.20) appeared similar to that among never-smokers. Among women, a similar but not significant interaction between family history and smoking on IS was observed. Ever-regular smokers who had a family history of stroke had the highest risk of IS. Conclusions Among Chinese men, the association of family history with IS was accentuated by smoking, and such accentuation tended to be lowered by cessation.

Effect of Different Levels of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium on Root Activity and Chlorophyll Content in Leaves of Brassica oleracea Seedlings Grown in Vegetable Nursery Substrate

        Jian Zhang,Yan Wang,Pengcheng Wang,Qi an Zhang,Congsheng Yan,Feifei Yu,Jianqun Yi,Ling Fang 한국원예학회 2017 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.58 No.1

Nutrients in the substrate are important for plant growth, particularly during the development of vegetableseedlings. The continued development of intensive methods to produce seedlings has made growing healthy and high-gradeseedlings a requirement for nurseries. This study evaluated the effect of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium(K) on the root activity, dry weight, and chlorophyll content in leaves of Brassica oleracea seedlings. D-optimal designwas used in this study because of its accuracy. A total of 10 treatments (T1–T10) were designed, and differentconcentrations were chosen in the following ranges: N (0.6-5.0 g·kg-1), P (0.2-6.0 g·kg-1), and K (0.7-7.0 g·kg-1). Our studyshows that the application of N, P, and K to the substrate significantly influenced the growth of B. oleracea seedlings. T6significantly increased root activity, root dry weight, chlorophyll content in leaves when compared with the control T1,which had added nutrient concentrations at normal levels. However, the addition of high levels of N (5.0 g·kg-1) withhigh (7.0 g·kg-1) or low (0.7 g·kg-1) levels of K (T2 and T9) not only significantly decreased the root dry weight but alsodecreased leaf area. Our results suggest that N, P, and K can be added to the substrate at an appropriate ratio togrow vigorous B. oleracea seedlings under intensive seedling production conditions. The present results give insightinto the nutrient requirements during early growth of B. oleracea seedlings in growth substrate.

Evaluation and Comparation of a Novel Surgical Technique and Hemivertebra Resection to the Correction of Congenital Cervical Scoliosis in Lower Cervical and Cervicothoracic Spine

        Shuo Cao,Xin Chen,Shengfa Pan,Yinze Diao,Yanbin Zhao,Tian Xia,Weishi Li,Feifei Zhou,Yu Sun 대한척추신경외과학회 2022 Neurospine Vol.19 No.4

Objective: To report concave-side distraction technique to treat congenital cervical scoliosis in lower cervical and cervicothoracic spine. To evaluate and compare clinical and radiographic results of this procedure with classic hemivertebra resection procedure. Methods: This study reviewed 29 patients in last 13 years. These patients were divided into convex-side resection group (group R) and concave-side distraction group (group D). Radiographic assessment was based on parameter changes preoperatively, postoperatively and at last follow-up. Demographic data, surgical data and complications were also evaluated and compared between the 2 groups. Results: In group R, mean age was 8.9 ± 3.3 years and follow-up was 46 ± 18 months. Operation time and blood loss averaged 500 ± 100 minutes, 703 ± 367 mL. In group D, mean age was 9.9 ± 2.8 years and follow-up was 34 ± 14 months. Operation time and blood loss averaged 501 ± 112 minutes, 374 ± 181 mL. Structural Cobb angle was corrected from 29.4° ± 12.5° to 5.3° (2.1°–18.1°) (p = 0.001) and 33.7° ± 14.1° to 12.8° ± 11.4° (p < 0.001) in groups R and D. Compensatory Cobb angle had a spontaneous correction rate of 59.6% (40.0%–80.8%) and 59.7% ± 23.0% in groups R and D. Mandibular incline, clavicle angle and spine coronal balance were significantly improved at last follow-up in both groups. All correction rates were not statistically different between groups. However, group D had significant less blood loss (p < 0.001) and operation time (p = 0.004) per vertebra than group R. Seven patients developed C5 nerve root palsy and recovered by 6 months of follow-up. Conclusion: Both surgical procedures are safe and effective in correcting congenital cervical scoliosis. But concave-side distraction technique has less blood loss and time-consuming during surgery, which provides a better option for the treatment of congenital cervical scoliosis.
