Seventeen compounds derived from traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) were tested for their antiviral activity against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) in vitro. Visualization with the cytopathologic effect (CPE) assay and the 3-(4, 5-dimethyithiazol- 2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide test were used to determine the 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) and 50% effective concentration (EC50) in cultured Marc-145 cells. Among the tested compounds, chlorogenic acid and scutellarin showed potential anti-PRRSV activity. The EC50 values were 270.8 ± 14.6 μg/ml and 28.21 ± 26.0 μg/ml and the selectivity indexes were >5.54 and 35.5, respectively. The time-of-addition and virucidal assay indicated that the anti-PRRSV activity of the two compounds could be due to their inhibiting the early stage of virus replication and/or inactivating the virus directly. The inhibition of the virus attachment was not observed in the adsorption inhibition assay. The inhibition ratios of chlorogenic acid and scutellarin were, respectively, 90.8% and 61.1% at the maximum non-cytotoxic concentrations. The results have provided a basis for further exploration of their antiviral properties and mechanisms in vivo. We believe that the chlorogenic acid and scutellarin have a great potential to be developed as new anti-PRRSV drugs for clinical application.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer-related deaths, but its molecular mechanisms are not yet well characterized. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in tumorigenesis, including that of HCC. However, the role of homeobox A11 antisense (HOXA11-AS) in determining HCC stem cell characteristics remains to be explained; hence, this study aimed to investigate the effects of HOXA11-AS on HCC stem cell characteristics. Initially, the expression patterns of HOXA11-AS and HOXA11 in HCC tissues, cells, and stem cells were determined. HCC stem cells, successfully sorted from Hep3B and Huh7 cells, were transfected with short hairpin or overexpression plasmids for HOXA11-AS or HOXA11 overexpression and depletion, with an aim to study the influences of these mediators on the self-renewal, proliferation, migration, and tumorigenicity of HCC stem cells in vivo. Additionally, the potential relationship and the regulatory mechanisms that link HOXA11-AS, HOXA11, and the Wnt signaling pathway were explored through treatment with Dickkopf-1 (a Wnt signaling pathway inhibitor). HCC stem cells showed high expression of HOXA11-AS and low expression of HOXA11. Both HOXA11-AS silencing and HOXA11 overexpression suppressed the self-renewal, proliferation, migration, and tumorigenicity of HCC stem cells in vivo, as evidenced by the decreased expression of cancer stem cell surface markers (CD133 and CD44) and stemness-related transcription factors (Nanog, Sox2, and Oct4). Moreover, silencing HOXA11-AS inactivated the Wnt signaling pathway by decreasing the methylation level of the HOXA11 promoter, thereby inhibiting HCC stem cell characteristics. Collectively, this study suggested that HOXA11-AS silencing exerts an antitumor effect, suppressing HCC development via Wnt signaling pathway inactivation by decreasing the methylation level of the HOXA11 promoter.
Physicochemical and Sensory Characterization of Ginger-juice Yogurt during Fermentation
Guo-Hao Yang,Jun-Jun Guan,Jin-Shui Wang,Haicheng Yin,Fa-Dong Qiao,Feng Jia 한국식품과학회 2012 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.21 No.6
The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a ginger (Zingiber ofcinale) juice addition to milk on the physicochemical and sensory properties and consumer acceptability of yogurt during fermentation. Under the presence of ginger juice at 2.0 to 10.0%(v/v), there was a significant influence (p<0.05) on the viability of characteristic microorganisms in yogurt, the pH, titratable acidity (ºSH), viscosity, and hardness of the products. The descriptive data showed significant differences (p<0.05) among the samples for all attributes. The consumer results from external preference mapping indicated that samples with the lower ginger juice (≤4%)were liked over the higher samples (≥6%), with a negative impact on the acceptance by the consumers. Therefore, these findings suggest that 4%(v/v) may be the more appropriate content of ginger juice in the preparation of ginger-juice yogurt.

cess of the high-order structures in biomaterials. Real-time Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and optical microscopy demon-strated that helical segments formed along with the spherulite growth. Atomic force microscopy revealed the details of growth, twisting and branching of lamellar crystals. Cooperative packing of these twisting lamellae led to regular banded spherulites observedunder polarized light microscopy. Real-time observation on the crystallization process provided richer information than the characterization of the final structures; consequently, it provides deeper insight into the organization mechanism of the hierarchical structures.

Highly dispersive ammonium dimolybdate crystals with high purity have been prepared through reaction–evaporation–crystallization united route using commercial molybdenum oxide as starting material. The as-prepared ammonium dimolybdate uniform crystals were systematically characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission-reflection optical microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and TG-DSC thermal analysis. The Fsss grain diameter, loose packed density, and crystal-grain size distribution were also measured by the Malvern laser particle sizer. These collective characterization and analysis reveal that the ammonium dimolybdate grains are non-agglomerated uniform crystals with well normal distribution and geometric shape. The average Fsss diameter, d(0.5) and loose packed density are 433.316 mm, 470.981 mm and 1.592 g cm3, respectively, which could well meet the quality requirements for the subsequent production of molybdenum powders.
A new dynamic updating key strategy for Wireless Mesh Networks
Jun-Guo Liao,Ming-Yan Wang 한국정보통신학회 2014 2016 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Vol.6 No.1
In the security protocols of EMSA, the key updating strategy is an effective method to ensure the security of communication. For the existing programs of automatic updates, the PTK is updated through the complex 4-way handshake to produce each time. Once the update frequency of the PTK is greater, it will have a greater impact on throughput and delay of the network. On this basis, we propose a new strategy of dynamic key updating to ensure the safety and performance of wireless Mesh network. In the new strategy, when PTK updates, it only updates the TK communication key. The key updating is based on the initial seed, and then generate a new key by random function both sides at the same time. The analysis of performance with existing programs showed that the dynamic key updating strategy proposed in this paper have a larger increase in delay and throughput of the network.
