      • Quantitative Assay for the Binding of Jun-Fos Dimer and Activator Protein-1 Site

        The Jun and Fos families of eukaryotic transcription factors form heterodimers capable of binding to their cognate DNA enhancer elements. We are interested in searching for inhibitors or antagonists of the binding of the Jun-Fos heterodimer to the activator protein-1 (AP-1) site. The basic-region leucine zipper (bZIP) domain of c-Fos was expressed as a fusion protein with glutathione S-transferase, and allowed to form a heterodimer with the bZIP domain of c-Jun. The heterodimer was bound to glutathione-agarose, to which were added radiolabeled AP-1 nucleotides. After thorough washing, the gel-bound radioactivity was counted. The assay is faster than the coventional electrophoretic mobility shift assay because the gel electrophoresis step and the autoradiography step are eliminated. Moreover, the assay is very sensitive, allowing the detection of picomolar quantities of nucleotides, and is not affected by up to 50% dimethylsulfoxide, a solvent for hydrophobic inhibitors. Curcumin and dihydroguaiaretic acid, recently known inhibitors of Jun-Fos-DNA complex formation, were applied to this Jun-GST-fused Fos system and revealed to decrease the dimer-DNA binding.

        개에서 이중 결찰법을 통한 동맥관 개존증의 완치 예

        A ten months old, female Yorkshire terrier weighing 2.88 kg referred to veterinary teaching hospital of college of veterinary medicine, Konkuk University because of syncope, cough and dyspnea. First hematological and serum chemical test revealed thrombocytopenia, mild anemia, and increase of concentration of ALP (195 U/L). On 57 days later, second hematological and serum chemical test revealed polycythemia, increase of concentration of ALP (211 U/L), and Tchol (387 mg/dl). Right atrium enlargement, main pulmonary artery bulge and cardiomegaly (VHS = 11.5) were observed in radiographic findings. Ultrasonographic images showed both right and left ventricular dilation and turbulent flow between the descending aorta and the main pulmonary artery in color Doppler imaging. ECG showed left ventricular enlargement, SA block, and electrical alternant. Thoracotomy was performed through left fourth intercostal incision under isoflurane anesthesia. Patent ductus arteriosus was double ligated with 1-0 silk. Cough and dyspnea disappeared on 5 days after operation. Turbulent flow was not found in color doppler imaging of ultrasonography on 10 days after operation. Ten months later after the operation, syncope could not exist any more.

        Background and Purposes: Over the past three decades, numerous studies performed in Korea have reported that job stress is a determinant risk factor for chronic diseases and work disability. Every society has its own culture and occupational climate particular to their organizations, and hence experiences different occupational stress. An occupational stress measurement tool therefore needs to be developed to estimate it objectively. The purpose of this study is to develop and standardize the Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS) which is considered to be unique and specific occupational stressors in Korean employees. Subjects and Methods: Data were obtained from the National Study for Development and Standardization of Occupational Stress (NSDSOS Project: 2002-2004). A total of 12,631 employees from a nationwide sample proportional to the Korean Standard Industrial Classification and the Korean Standard Occupational Classification were administered. The KOSS was developed for 2 years (2002-2004). In the first year, we collected 255 items from the most popular job stress measurement tools such as JCQ, ERI, NIOSH and OSI, and 44 items derived from the a qualitative study (depth interview). Forty-three items of KOSS, in the second year, were retained for use in the final version of the KOSS by using Delphi and factor analysis. Items were scored using conventional 1-2-3-4 Likert scores for the response categories. Results: We developed eight subscales by using factor analysis and validation process: physical environment (3 items), job demand (8 items), insufficient job control (5 items), interpersonal conflict (4 items), job insecurity (6 items), organizational system (7 items), lack of reward (6 items), and occupational climate (4 items). Together they explained 50.0% of total variance. Internal consistency alpha scores were ranged from 0.51 to 0.82. Twenty-four items of the short form of the KOSS (KOSS-SF) were also developed to estimate job stress in the work setting. Because the levels of the subscales of occupational stress were gender dependent, gender-specific standard norms for both the 43-item full version and the 24-item short form using a quartile for the subscales of KOSS were presented. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that KOSS might be an appropriate measurement scale to estimate occupational stress of Korean employees. Further and more detailed study needs to be conducted to improve the validity of this scale.

        본 연구는 오프라인 대학의 홍보 활동을 살펴보고, 향후 인터넷을 이용한 사이버대학의 홍보 방향을 제시하였다. 첫째, 인터넷을 이용하는 사이버 대학 홍보의 목표를 구체화시킬 필요성이 제기되어질 수 있다. 둘째, 인터넷 매체 전략에 있어서 마케팅 믹스 전략을 고려할 수 있어야 한다. 셋째, 인터넷을 이용하는 사이버대학 광고가 입시철에만 집중적으로 광고를 집중시키는 전략을 장기적인 계획을 가지고 지속적으로 광고를 집행함으로써 사이버대학의 이미지의 제고와 더불어 지속적으로 목표 고객에 대한 관리개념을 도입해야 할 필요성이 제기되어질 수 있다. 넷째, 인터넷을 이용하는 사이버대학들은 홍보 활동의 효율성을 위해 홍보 인력의 전문화에 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다. As the Internet gets its commercial value along with the development of WWW, cyber universities make their o m PR on the Internet. The purpose of this research is to present cyber university PR. With the conclusion, some managerial implications based on the results of the exploratory study were established. This findings give suggestions in the current of internet advertisement of cyber university PR.

        A numerical and experimental study have been performed on the heat transfer in rectangular solid owned heat source. The effects of thermal conductivity k, heat transfer coefficient h, temperature of surrounding fluid To and the rate of heat flow Q were studied numerically by F. E. M. The experiment were studied by given rectangular solid. The results of F. E. M. and experimental are as follows. 1) The F. E. M. to calculate the temperature distribution in rectangular solid showed good agreement with experimental. 2) Thermal conductivity influenced strongly temperature distribution in the solid but heat transfer cofficient influenced only surface. 3) Temperature gradient in the solid was unconcerned by temperature of surrounding fluid and rate of heat flow but temperature in the solid changed at a fixed rate.

        A numeical and experimental study has been performed on heat transfer in square duct. The effects of distant P between dry solides and Reynolds number were studied numerically by Finite Element Method(F.E.M.) The experiment were studied according to F.E.M. analysis by Universal Digital Measuring system. The results of F.E.M. analysis and experimental are as follows. 1) Comparison between mumerical and experimental results showed good agreement. 2) Heat transfer increases according to decrease of the P/D ratio and increase of H/L ratio too.

      • 複合 作動液을 갖는 回轉型 히트파이프의 傳熱特性

        Heat transfer characteristics of internally triangler finned rotating heat pipe with the water-ethanol mixture as working fluid have been numerically and experimentally studied. The numerical and experimental results showed good agreement and when the ethanol content change, application limit of rotating heat pipe could change. By increasing rpm or vapour pressure of rotating heat pipe, heat transfer rate was increased slightly but when ethanol content increase, heat transfer rate was decreased. In case of pure ethanol for working fluid, heat transfer was about 0.8 compared with distilled water. When ethanol content was about 0.2 heat transfer rate and applicable temperature was profitably appeared. When ethanol content was about 0.2, heat transfer rate and applicable temperature difference of rotating heat pipe.
