Modeling and measurement of simultaneous switching noise coupling through signal via transition

Jongbae Park,Hyungsoo Kim,Youchul Jeong,Jingook Kim,Jun So Pak,Dong Gun Kam,Joungho Kim Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2006 IEEE transactions on advanced packaging Vol.29 No.3

<P>The signal via is a heavily utilized interconnection structure in high-density System-on-Package (SoP) substrates and printed circuit boards (PCBs). Vias facilitate complicated routings in these multilayer structures. Significant simultaneous switching noise (SSN) coupling occurs through the signal via transition when the signal via suffers return current interruption caused by reference plane exchange. The coupled SSN decreases noise and timing margins of digital and analog circuits, resulting in reduction of achievable jitter performance, bit error ratio (BER), and system reliability. We introduce a modeling method to estimate SSN coupling based on a balanced transmission line matrix (TLM) method. The proposed modeling method is successfully verified by a series of time-domain and frequency-domain measurements of several via transition structures. First, it is clearly verified that SSN coupling causes considerable clock waveform distortion, increases jitter and noise, and reduces margins in pseudorandom bit sequence (PRBS) eye patterns. We also note that the major frequency spectrum component of the coupled noise is one of the plane pair resonance frequencies in the PCB power/ground pair. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the amount of SSN noise coupling is strongly dependent not only on the position of the signal via, but also on the layer configuration of the multilayer PCB. Finally, we have successfully proposed and confirmed a design methodology to minimize the SSN coupling based on an optimal via positioning approach</P>

Effective Periodic Poling in Optical Fibers

        Jongbae Kim,서홍석,주정진,김민수 한국전자통신연구원 2004 ETRI Journal Vol.26 No.3

ABSTRACT—The distributions of electric field and induced second-order nonlinearity are analyzed in the periodic poling of optical fibers. A quasi-phase matching efficiency for the induced nonlinearity is calculated in terms of both the electrode separation distance between the applied voltage and generalized electrode width for the periodic poling. Our analysis of the quasi-phase matching efficiency implies that the conversion efficiency can be enhanced through adjusting the separation distance, and the electrode width can be maximized if the electrode width is optimized.

Source apportionment of PM2.5 using positive matrix factorization (PMF) at a rural site in Korea

Kim, Sunhye,Kim, Tae-Young,Yi, Seung-Muk,Heo, Jongbae Elsevier 2018 Journal of environmental management Vol.214 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The sources of different pollutants contributing to ambient fine particles (PM2.5) on Daebu Island, Korea, were estimated. Twenty four hour integrated filter samples were collected from May 21–November 1, 2016, and analyzed for organic carbon, elemental carbon, ions, and trace elements. Positive matrix factorization was conducted on the PM2.5 chemical speciation data from the samples to define the pathways and sources of PM2.5 at the sampling site. A total of 80 samples and 24 chemical species were used to run the model and a total of nine sources were identified: secondary sulfate (29.0%), mobile (22.0%), secondary nitrate (13.2%), oil combustion (10.1%), coal combustion (9.4%), aged sea salt (7.9%), soil (5.6%), non-ferrous smelting (1.7%), and industrial activity (1.1%). Conditional probability and potential source contribution functions were then used to determine whether these sources were local or came from pollutants transported over long-range distances. The anthropogenic sources came from local emissions and originated from both industrialized and metropolitan areas, whereas the secondary inorganic aerosols were strongly influenced by the long-range transport of air pollutants from Shandong and Jiangsu provinces in China.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Source apportionment of ambient PM2.5 is investigated in background area of Korea. </LI> <LI> Air pollutants from China enhance secondary inorganic aerosols contributions. </LI> <LI> Primary sources are effected by local sources of industrial and metropolitan areas. </LI> </UL> </P>

Efficient Detection of Direction Indicators on Road Surfaces in Car Black-Box for Supporting Safe Driving

Kim, Jongbae The Institute of Internet 2015 International Journal of Internet, Broadcasting an Vol.7 No.2

This paper proposes an efficient method to detect direction indicators on road surfaces to support drivers in driving safely using the Simulink model. In the proposed method, the ROIs are detected using the detection method of maximally stable extremal regions (MSER), and the road indicator regions are detected using the speeded up robust features (SURF) matching method for the corresponding point matching of the detected ROIs and the road indicator templates. Experiments on various road satiations show that the processing time of about 0.32 sec per frame was required, and a detection rate of 91% was achieved.

A Study on the Preparation of Standardized Operation Criteria for Enhancement of Safety and Convenience of Mobile Electronic Notice Service

JongBae Kim 국제문화기술진흥원 2022 International Journal of Advanced Culture Technolo Vol.10 No.4

Due to the expansion of non-face-to-face services, the demand for user identification for mobile devices is increasing. Recently, mobile resident registration cards, mobile driver's licenses, etc. are installed in mobile phones and used for user identification and authentication services. In order to identify a user online, unique identification information of the online user is required. In particular, in order to provide information only to online users, it is necessary to accurately deliver information to a mobile device owned by the user. To make this service possible, it was realized with the advent of mobile electronic notice service. However, the identification of online service users and information on mobile devices owned or subscribed by the relevant users require safe management as personal information, and it is also necessary to increase the convenience of online service users. In this paper, we propose an operating standard for providing a mobile electronic notice service that sends electronic notice using a mobile device owned by the user. The mobile electronic notice service is a service that provides notices expressed in electronic information to the recipient's cell phone, mobile app, e-mail, etc. Therefore, as the use of mobile electronic notification service increases and the provision and use of connecting information to identify users increases, it is necessary to expand the mobile electronic notification service while safely protecting users' personal information.

      • Effect of fermented porcine placenta on physical fatigue in mice

        Kim, Hee-Yun,Han, Na-Ra,Kim, Na-Rae,Lee, Mikyung,Kim, Jongbae,Kim, Chang-Ju,Jeong, Hyun-Ja,Kim, Hyung-Min SAGE Publications 2016 Experimental biology and medicine Vol.241 No.17

<P>The fatigue spreads among the people who live under stressful life and brings about a negative impact on physical function. Here we evaluated the anti-fatigue effects of fermented porcine placenta (FPP) and main constituents, lysine (Lys) and leucine (Leu) with treadmill stress test and forced swimming test (FST) in animal models. The mice were administrated with FPP, Lys, and Leu for 21 days. After treadmill exercise, FPP, Lys, and Leu significantly reduced fatigue-related biochemical parameters, including lactate, lactate dehydrogenase, glucose, creatine kinase, urea nitrogen, cortisol, and pro-inflammatory cytokines, whereas superoxide dismutase activity and glycogen levels were significantly increased by FPP, Lys, and Leu. In the FST, FPP, Lys, and Leu significantly decreased immobility times and up-regulated brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in brain. Furthermore, FPP, Lys, and Leu significantly decreased production of tumor necrosis factor-kappa B, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1, and IL-4 through blockade of caspase-1/nuclear factor-B pathway in stimulated splenocytes. In addition, FPP, Lys, and Leu significantly promoted proliferation of splenocytes. In conclusion, these findings suggest the potential of FPP as a novel functional food for the regulation of fatigue.</P>

Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare established the Research Institute (NRCRI) within National Rehabilitation Center, Seoul, Korea one and half years ago in order to perform rehabilitation research and development projects which can improve the quality of life of Korean with disabilities. NRCRI is engaged in several efforts to develop rehabilitative and assistive devices and systems based on the needs of Korean with disabilities. As we began to plan the research tasks, we investigated what kinds of difficulties they suffer and what Assistive Technologies are needed by conducting a comprehensive survey study and having meetings with persons with diverse disabilities as the first research project. Based on the results of this needs survey, we planned and executed several research and development projects. Whereas some of them are performed with low or middle technologies, others required high technologies which are used in developing robots, automobile, and airplane. In this article our research and development works in the NRCRI will be introduced briefly.
