Modeling and measurement of simultaneous switching noise coupling through signal via transition

Jongbae Park,Hyungsoo Kim,Youchul Jeong,Jingook Kim,Jun So Pak,Dong Gun Kam,Joungho Kim Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2006 IEEE transactions on advanced packaging Vol.29 No.3

<P>The signal via is a heavily utilized interconnection structure in high-density System-on-Package (SoP) substrates and printed circuit boards (PCBs). Vias facilitate complicated routings in these multilayer structures. Significant simultaneous switching noise (SSN) coupling occurs through the signal via transition when the signal via suffers return current interruption caused by reference plane exchange. The coupled SSN decreases noise and timing margins of digital and analog circuits, resulting in reduction of achievable jitter performance, bit error ratio (BER), and system reliability. We introduce a modeling method to estimate SSN coupling based on a balanced transmission line matrix (TLM) method. The proposed modeling method is successfully verified by a series of time-domain and frequency-domain measurements of several via transition structures. First, it is clearly verified that SSN coupling causes considerable clock waveform distortion, increases jitter and noise, and reduces margins in pseudorandom bit sequence (PRBS) eye patterns. We also note that the major frequency spectrum component of the coupled noise is one of the plane pair resonance frequencies in the PCB power/ground pair. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the amount of SSN noise coupling is strongly dependent not only on the position of the signal via, but also on the layer configuration of the multilayer PCB. Finally, we have successfully proposed and confirmed a design methodology to minimize the SSN coupling based on an optimal via positioning approach</P>

      • Double-Stacked EBG Structure for Wideband Suppression of Simultaneous Switching Noise in LTCC-Based SiP Applications

        Jongbae Park,Lu, A.C.W.,Chua, K.M.,Wai, L.L.,Junho Lee,Joungho Kim IEEE 2006 IEEE microwave and wireless components letters Vol.16 No.9

<P>We propose a novel electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure with a significantly extended noise isolation bandwidth, called a double-stacked EBG (DS-EBG) structure, fabricated on a low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) multilayer substrate. The DS-EBG structure was devised for wideband suppression of simultaneous switching noise (SSN) coupling in system-in-package (SiP) applications. Our design approach was enabled by combining two EBG layers embedded between the power and ground planes. The two EBG layers had different bandgaps from using different cell sizes. Enhanced wideband suppression of the SSN coupling was validated using a 11.4-GHz noise stop bandwidth with 30-dB isolation in time and frequency domain measurements up to 20GHz</P>

      • Moxibustion for treating menopausal hot flashes: a randomized clinical trial

        Park, Ji-Eun,Lee, Myeong Soo,Jung, Soyoung,Kim, Aeran,Kang, Kyungwon,Choi, Junyong,Park, Jongbae,Choi, Sun-Mi The North American Menopause Society 2009 Menopause Vol.16 No.4

OBJECTIVE:: A hot flash is a general postmenopausal symptom experienced by approximately 75% of climacteric women. Women often turn to complementary and alternative medicines to relieve hot flashes. Moxibustion is one such medication. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of moxibustion on hot flashes in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. METHODS:: Fifty-one participants were randomly assigned into three groups, namely, moxibustion 1, moxibustion 2, and waiting list (control). The moxibustion groups received 14 sessions of moxibustion treatment for 4 weeks at acupuncture points. Our protocol was supported by evidence from clinical experts (Moxa 1) or published literature (Moxa 2), and we followed all participants for an additional 2 weeks after the end of the study. Our primary outcome measures were frequency and severity of hot flashes. Secondary outcome parameters included quality of life (Menopausal-Specific Quality of Life Scale) and Menopause Rating Scale. RESULTS:: Fifty-one women participated in our study. By week 4, the difference in severity and frequency of hot flashes had become statistically significant between the treatment groups and the control participants. In addition, there was a statistically significant difference in Menopausal-Specific Quality of Life Scale scores between treatment group 2 and the other groups. CONCLUSIONS:: Our results suggest that moxibustion reduces both the frequency and severity of menopausal hot flashes as compared with those in control participants. We would recommend further studies with larger samples and possibly including placebo controls.

      • Reactive oxygen species (ROS) activity of ambient fine particles (PM2.5) measured in Seoul, Korea

        Park, Jieun,Park, Eun Ha,Schauer, James J.,Yi, Seung-Muk,Heo, Jongbae Elsevier 2018 Environment international Vol.117 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Substantial increase in level of particulate matter has raised concerns in South Korea recently. Ambient particulate matter is classified as Group I carcinogen (IARC, 2013) and multiple epidemiological studies has demonstrated adverse health effects due to exposure of particulate matter. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) which has a diameter <2.5 μm is likely to penetrate deeply into lung and is known to be eliciting adverse health effects. A number of epidemiological studies have been conducted on adverse health effects of PM-related diseases and mortality rate, yet particulate matter (PM)-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) activity at the cellular level has not been actively studied in Korea. This study assessed PM-induced oxidative potential by exposure of collected ambient PM2.5 samples to the rat alveolar macrophage cell line. The characteristics of PM2.5 in Korea were further characterized by linking chemical constituents and contributing sources to ROS. PM2.5 mass concentration during the cold season was relatively higher than mass concentration during the warm season and chemical constituents except for Secondary Organic Carbon (SOC) and SO4 2− which both showed similar trends in both the cold and cold seasons. The concentration of crustal elements was especially high during the cold season which can be an indication of long range transport of Asian dust. Water soluble organic carbon and water soluble transition metals (Cr and Zn) were also shown to be correlated to oxidative potential and metals such as As and V were shown to have a high contribution to ROS activity according to stepwise multiple linear regression. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) results identified six factors that can be interpreted as soil, mobile, industry, secondary inorganic aerosol, secondary organic aerosol and oil combustion. Moreover, through Principal Component Regression (PCR), industry, soil, mobile and SIA were shown to be statistically significant sources in a relation to ROS activity.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> PM-induced oxidative potential was assessed through cellular responses. </LI> <LI> WSOC and meals (As and V) exhibited high positive association with the ROS activity. </LI> <LI> Industry and soil sources were strongly correlated with ROS activity. </LI> </UL> </P>

교육 공공성(公共性)의 측면에서 본 독일의 교육정책

        박종배(Jongbae Park),조상식(Sangsik Cho),임광국(Gwangguk Yim) 한독교육학회 2014 교육의 이론과 실천 Vol.19 No.2

Nowadays the concept educational publicity has been deprived of its safe ground, to such an extend that it becomes a target for controversial issues in the dimension of educational reality. In particular, this fact seems remarkable in a situation that the infiltration of market ideology into human education is becoming excruciating. From the point of historical view, the concept of educational publicity is naturally one of the western modern achievements. Nevertheless critical and resistant winds against such an unpleasant tendencies are also blowing in the fields of the normative and reflective pedagogy. When we consider the official characteristic related to state, the common one connected with people of all and the open one to people of all as three refinedly chosen references to educational publicity, a representative sample can be laid out from the perspective of comparative educational study. For this reason the article concludes that the educational policy in Germany is in accord with above-mentioned references to educational publicity and a stately led type. The compulsory and free education, institutional welfare for backing children and teenagers and support system for vulnerable social group are educational-political endeavors in order to actualize educational equality, and can be the standard of how we measure educational publicity. Clearly the institutional model of German educational policy is working soundly with undamaged state of educational publicity.
