The stability constants (K_st) for the inclusion complexes between propranolol and three types of cyclodextrin (CD) such as β-CD, methyl (ME)-β-CD and hydroxypropyl (HP)-β-CD were determined by capillary electrophoresis (CE). The enantiomers of propranolol possess relatively high affinity towards ME-β-CD with stability constants of 78 and 76 M^-1 for (R)- and (S)-propranolol, respectively. The affinity of propranolol in HP-β-CD was relatively low compared with that in ME-β-CD, i.e. 39 and 36 M^-1 for (R)- and (S)-propranolol, respectively. In spite of the lower affinity, the K_R/K_S ratio of propranolol in HP-β-CD (K_R/K_S = 1.08) was higher than that in ME-β-CD (K_R/K_S = 1.03) indicating that HP-β-CD would be more efficient than ME-β-CD or β-CD in chiral separation of propranolol by CE.

When the band load effects on the surface of soil ground, the characteristics of underground stress vary from the equipment load and the ground condition. The experimental data of the underground stress occurring on the weak stratum can be more accurate on the estimation by running the equipment and these can be applied to a counterplan for the improvement of appropriate construction equipment.

Background: Cholestatic hepatitis is failure of bile to reach the duodenum with hepatocellular damage and no demonstrable obstruction of the major bile ducts. The prognosis is usually good with recovery in less than 4 weeks after withdrawal of the offending drug. However, a prolonged course lasting over 3 months is possible and, in rare cases, progression to ductopenia with development of a vanishing bile duct syndrome occurs. A differential diagnosis with other causes of Chronic liver disease is needed. Materials and Methods: From January 1991 through Jaunary 2000, 14 patients diagnosed as cholestatic hepatitis by liver biopsy were inclouded. The possible causative drug, clinical features, laboatory findings, and progression of cholestatic hepatitis were evaluated. The semiquantitative study of liver lesions was performed by two independent observers. Results: Causes of cholestatic hepatitis are 5 cases of oriental medicine, 3 cases of anti-tuberculosis medication, 1 case of ticlopidine and antibiotics and 4 cases of unknown causes. The clinical features of cholestatic hepatitis were jaundice, itching, urine color change, and general weakness. During 6 to 30 months, LFT of 5 patients showed prolonged elevation. Elevated total cholesterol ≥250 mg/dL in 6 patients, pheripheral blood eosinophilia in 5 patients, auto-antibody positive in 6 patients were observed respectively. The biopsies showed intralobular bilirubinostasis with a mixed portal inflammatory infiltration. Conclusion: In cholestatic hepatitis. durations of abnormal LFT are variable regardless of causative drugs. If cholestatic hepatitis progresses toward chronic course, viral hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, and autoimmune hepatitis should be differentially diagnosed and sequential liver biopsies are needed.
뇌자도 측정을 위한 저잡음 Nb SQUID 센서의 설계 및 제작

We report on the design, fabrication and performances of a low-noise Nb SQUID sensor for neuromagnetic measurements. The main features of the developed sensor are i) large flux-to-voltage transfer, making the SQUID readout electronics simple, and ii) use of the integrated planar pickup coil to eliminate the environmental magnetic field noises. The magnetic field noise of the developed SQUID sensor is below 5 fT/√Hz at 100 Hz, which is low enough to be used in neuromagnetic measurements.
대형 화재로 인한 사상자의 손상 유형과 합병증 : 동인천 라이브호프 화재를 중심으로

Background: High risks of fire alway exist for buildings in urban areas, especially those in downtown. Crowds, as well as more complex and larger structures, may cause more victims in the event of fire; therefore, emergency medical service plans must be established for such disastrous events. Methods: On the evening of October 30,1999, a fire broke out in downtown, Dong-Incheon Live-Hof restaurant; 56 people were killed and 76 were injured. Most of them were teenagers. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of the victims, Results: 1) Among the 56 dead, 54 died from smoke inhalation, one from extensive burns, and one from sepsis during treatment. 2) Among the 76 injured, 70 patients suffered from smoke inhalation, 53 from burns, and 9 from several types of trauma (sprains, contusions, lacerations, abrasions, fractures, etc.). 3) Later complications were laryngeal edema, pulmonary edema, scar contracture, and hypoxic brain damage, and so forth. 4) Post traumatic stress syndrome was unexpectedly more prevalent in mildly to moderately injured survivors and witnesses than in seriously injured survivors. Conclusion: Many complications exist after a fire. Some may be resolved in time, but others may result in permanent sequelae. Early rescue, early triage, and early management during transport by emergency medical service (EMS) personnel can result in fewer complications and a lower mortality rate. Therefore, we propose the establishment of plans to be followed during various major disasters.

<P>A reconfigurable planar inverted-F antenna using a switchable PIN-diode and a fine-tuning varactor is presented for mobile communication applications. Selection of operating modes is achieved by switching the PIN-diode between radiators and tuning the varactor on an antenna's shorting line. Mode I, with the PIN-diode off and tuning the varactor, operates for USPCS (1.85-1.99 GHz), WCDMA (1.92-2.18 GHz), and WLAN (5.15-5.825 GHz). As a result, the varactor used to achieve frequency fine-tuning does not need a DC bias circuit and can expand the bandwidth without increasing the physical size. Mode II, with the PIN diode on and the fixed 0-V varactor, operates for USPCS and m-WiMAX (3.4-3.6 GHz). To optimize the antenna structure, a parametric analysis is performed by sweeping the length and width of the radiators. Furthermore, equivalent models of a PIN diode and a varactor are presented for accurate prediction of antenna performances which are also analyzed by varying diode parameters. All simulated results are confirmed with measured data. The peak gains show 2.84, 2.81, 1.25, and 1.49 dBi at USPCS, WCDMA, m-WiMAX, and WLAN, respectively.</P>
Planar DVB-T Antenna Using a Patterned Helical Line and Matching Circuit

A miniaturized planar digital video broadcasting terrestrial (DVB-T) antenna, which is composed of a patterned helical line, an open stub, and an impedance matching circuit on an FR4 (εr=4.4) substrate for portable media player applications,is presented in this letter. The antenna has monopole-like,omni-directional radiation characteristics and a wide impedance bandwidth (VSWR<3) in the DVB-T band from 174 MHz to 230 MHz at the VHF band.
Simultaneous Frequency and Isolation Reconfigurable MIMO PIFA Using PIN Diodes

<P>A reconfigurable multiple input multiple output (MIMO) planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) is presented for three worldwide m-WiMAX bands: 2.3-2.4 GHz, 2.5-2.7 GHz, and 3.4-3.6 GHz. In order to achieve low mutual coupling, i.e., high isolation, a band-notched quarter-wave slot line on the ground plane is used between the two reconfigurable antennas. Two PIN-diodes are appropriately located on the slot line in order to electrically control the slot length. By adjusting both the PIN-diode biases for the reconfigurable antennas and the reconfigurable isolation slot, the proposed antenna simultaneously obtains the operating frequency and isolation reconfigurability for the three operating bands. A parametric analysis is performed to investigate optimized slot lengths for the three operation modes. All of the simulated results are confirmed with measurements. Measured isolation performance of greater than 30 dB improves the radiation efficiency, diversity gain, and channel capacity for all operating frequencies.</P>
