        The existing water treatment process is long-lasted in Korea, accordingly there is a thendency to accept the conventional operation method as it stands. There are many cases which introducing foreign research results or facility designing guideline into the domestic intact, set it up to operate. Consequently, some facilities brought about useless due to the operational method in regard to automatic system. So it is needed to draw up a plan for diagnosis of the facility and to bring up the in pavement of it for the sake of effective operation. In particular, the small and medium sized water treatment facility whose waterworks population less than 100,000 or having the capacity of water supply below 20,000 ㎤/d commands an overwhelming majority among the operating facilities by the lacal autonomous entities. The ratio of those occupies 91% of all 577 spots. Thereupon I selected the medium sized water treament facility which is operated by the county unit and studied how to improve the sedimentation basin among the water clarification precess. Sedimentation is broadly defined as the separation of a suspension into a clarified (quid and a more concentrated suspension. The type applied to sedimentation basin is the horizontal rectangular, which is simple to operate and adapt easily to the installation of high-rate settler modules. The term high-rate settler refers to any small sized inclined tubes or tilted parallel plates which permit effective gravitation settling of suspended solids within the modules. In this research, 1 focused on the tilted parallel plates as an option of settling module to review.

        Background : Coronary disease is highly prevalent in patient with end stage renal disease (ESRD) and account for much of their observed morbidity and mortality. Troponin-I consistently maintains a high sensitivity and specificity and is most sensitive marker for ischemic heart disease (IHD). Method : We examed 49 hernodialyzed patients (22 male, 27 female) without evidence of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) for 6 months. Biochemical markers were measured in serial predialysis blood samples. For analysis, we used two cardio-specific assays for troponin-T (cTnT) as well as for troponin-I (cTnI) and compared the results with CK-MB (reference value ≤ 4.0 ng/mL) concentration. Results : Myocardial ischemia was observed in 47% (23/49) of patients. cTnT level above 0.1 ng/mL. and cTnI level above 0.5 ng/mL, were observed in 22% (11/49) and 20% (10/49) of patients respectively. cTnI revealed significantly higher positive rate in patients with myocardial ischemia than the patients without myocardial ischemia (43 % vs 30%) (p<0.05). cTnT and CK-MB revealed no difference in positive rate between the patients with and without myocardial ischemia (cTnT : 30% vs 15% and CK-MB : 30% vs 19%). The sensitivity and specificity of cTnI to myocardial ischemia were higher than those of cTnT and CK-MB (sensitivity 43% vs 30% and 30%. specificity 100% vs 85% and 81%). Conclusion: Both cTnT and cTnI are useful in ruling out myocardial injury in chronic renal failure patients. But. cTnI is a more sensitivity and excellent specificity of ischemic heart disease than cTnT and CK-MB in hemodialyzed patients. In patients with ischemic heart disease, the presences of DM and advanced age were higher than those in patients without ischemic heart disease (p<0.05). Among the baseline characteristics old age, elevated LDH and diabeties were significant more frequent in the patients with elevation of cardiac troponin-I (p>0.5 ng/mL) than those with cardiac troponin-I (p<0.5 ng/mL), p=0.038, p=0.049, and p=0.045, respectively. Our results suggest that these cTnI is the potential diagnostic marker for the prediction of IHD in ESRD patients.

      • SEEKING RATIONALE ON THE LOCAL COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR NON-CONTROLLABLE ADVERSE IMPACTS AROUND SUDOKWON LANDFILL SITE

        Once the landfill starts to operate, off-site adverse influences such as those caused by offensive odors, noise, dusts, disease vectors and traffic congestion will start to occur on adjacent properties and local inhabitants. As long as the current management on landfill prevails, there will be justifiable opposition to operation of large landfill. Because those who generate the waste to pay the costs associated with controlling the odors of the landfill are not adverse to the use and enjoyment of nearby properties to the landfill and local communities. Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation (SLC) has supported that a significant economic incentive be provided to all households who are potentially adversely influenced by the operation of Sudokwon landfill. In addition to providing public health, and environmental protection far in excess of what will be achievable under the Act for Promotion of Waste Treatment Facilities and Local Community Support (APWL), and the Act Relating to the Establishment and Operation of Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation (ASLC). So the owners and/or residents within 2 to 3km radius of the landfill should be provided with an annual payment of a little sufficient magnitude to compensate them for the uncontrollable problems associated with the landfill management. Such payments would not constitute a license to pollute vicinity area. This approach would only be allowed if the owner/operator of the landfill, SLC, took extraordinary steps to minimize the adverse impacts of the landfill during its active life and post- closure care period. In this perspective of view on landfill management, it will be necessary to significantly change the approach. It is being used to address the concerns of those individual households that are within the sphere of impact of an active landfill. Certain specific approaches are devised to address these concerns.

      • 수도권 매립지 주위의 부정적 영향에 대한 지역공동체의 지원에 관한 이론적 근거 모색

        매립지의 매립작업이 개시된 이후, 악취, 소음, 해충, 교통체증 등에 의해 일어나는 매립지 외부의 문제들이 인접한 지역과 지역 주민에게 일어나기 시작한다. 이러한 매립지 관리상의 문제가 지속된다면, 대규모 매립지에 대해 반감을 갖는 것은 당연할 것이다. 폐기물을 배출하는 사람들은 매립지악취를 제어하기 위한 비용을 부담하기 때문에, 매립지 인근 토지의 이용이나 지역주민의 생활에 불리한 것은 아니다. 수도권 매립지 관리공사(SLC)는, 매립작업으로 인해 부정적인 영향을 받게되는 모든 가구에 상당한 경제적 보상을 제공하는데 지원해 왔다. 또한, 폐기물 처리시설 촉진 및 지역주민을 위한 법률(APWL), 수도권매립지 관리공사 설립 및 운영에 관한 법률(ASLC)에 만족할 수 있는 주민 건강과 환경보호를 시행하고 있다. 매립지 운영과 관련하여 발생하는 문제들로 인해, 매립지 반경 2-3km내의 사업체와 주민에게 매년 충분한 보상이 이루어지고 있다. 그러한 보상은 인접 지역을 오염시킬 수 있는 면죄부가 되는 것은 아니다. 따라서, 이러한 문제를 고려하여, 매립지 관리측 (SLC) 에서 매립진행시와 사후관리기간에 매립지의 부정적 영향을 최소화시킨다면, 이러한 보상은 허용되어질 것으로 판단된다. 매립지 관리운영의 관점에서, 보상만으로 문제를 해결하려는 접근을 변화시키는 게 필요하다. 이러한 접근은, 진행중인 매립지로부터 영향을 받는 영역내의 각 가구들에 대한 실제적인 문제를 다루기 위해 사용되어질 것이다. 몇 가지 특별한 방법이 이러한 문제를 다루기 위해 분류되었다.
