        Modified Wettability of Micro-structured Steel Surfaces Fabricated by Elliptical Vibration Diamond Cutting

        Hardened steel is an important material related to the development of modern industry branches. In order to satisfy the adhesion strength as well as the corrosion and wear resistance under extreme conditions, the modification of the wettability of hardened steel has become an important scientific topic. As micro/nano-structured surfaces play an essential role to induce advanced functional surfaces with wettability control, this contribution aims at presenting the feasibility of micro/nano sculpturing of hardened steels by elliptical vibration diamond cutting. The influence of the fabricated micro/nano structures on the resulting wettability is discussed and related to the contact line density as well as asperity heights. In this regard, it has been verified that a pitch value of 12 μm and structural height of 500 nm are the preferred structural parameters to increase the hydrophobicity of the textured steel specimens.

        China's modern Society is a consumer society,and individualization is the basic feature of modern society. Consumer society and individualization developed together. In recent years, the phenomenon of social consumption has become a hot topic of sociological research. Based on the perspective of individualization, this paper takes six rural post-90s youth as an example to analyse the development logic and construction path of their consumption patterns in the past 20 years. The study found that the family has always been the basic unit of individual activities. Young people cannot consume without the support of the family affected by the individualization proposition and materialism,and now family-based individual consumption has become an important means of pursuing individual development and identity.

        Structural evaluation of a foldable cable-strut structure for kinematic roofs

        The rapidly decreasing natural resources and the global variation of the climate push us to find intelligent and efficient structural systems to provide more people with fewer resources. This paper proposed a kinematic cable-strut system to realize sustainable structures in responding to changing environmental conditions. At first, the concept of the kinematic system based on crystal-cell pyramid (CP) cable-strut unit was given. Then the deployment of the structure was studied experimentally. After that, the static behaviors in the fully deployed state under the symmetric and asymmetric load cases were investigated. Moreover, the effects of thermal loading and the initial prestress distribution were also discussed. Comparative studies between the proposed structure and other deployable cable-strut system under three times of design load cases were carried out. Finally, the robustness of the system was studied by removal of one passive cable at one time.

        Analysis and Design Optimization of Axial–Radial Flux Hybrid Excitation Permanent Magnet Eddy Current Coupling

        This paper proposes an axial–radial flux hybrid excitation permanent magnet eddy current coupling (HE-PMEC), where the ferrite magnet is employed for producing the radial flux and the DC excitation current is adopted for producing the axial flux. Moreover, a shielding layer is developed to regulate the radial magnetic field. Its magnetic field distribution, electromagnetic performance, and temperature distribution are calculated based on the 3D finite element method (FEM). By adjusting the applied DC excitation current density and the insertion depth of the shielding layer, the variable current starting process, the variable current braking process, and the speed regulation characteristic of the proposed HE-PMEC are obtained. It can be seen that the starting process, braking process, and speed regulation ability of the HE-PMEC have been enhanced greatly. Furthermore, the copper ring shape of the HE-PMEC is optimized by using the proposed improved multilevel optimization method. It can be seen that the performance of the HE-PMEC can be improved by using the new optimized copper ring shape. Lastly, compared with the conventional PMECs, the proposed HE-PMEC has shown its superior electromagnetic performance.

        Chimerism Evaluation of ‘Hongrou Huyou’, a Grafted Chimera between Citrus changshan-huyou and Citrus unshiu

        Chimeras occur spontaneously or artificially and are valuable in horticultural crop breeding. A new diploid citrus chimera, named ‘Hongrou Huyou’ (abbreviated HH) (Citrus changshan-huyou + C. unshiu), was found during a bud sports investigation in China. The morphology, flesh carotenoid content, and molecular markers were evaluated in HH and the two grafted donors. The results showed that characteristics derived from L2/L3, such as the fruit size, winged leaf, seed, pollen, and rind aroma, were similar to those of C. changshan-huyou (CH), whereas the juice sac and stomatal characteristics originating from L1 were the same as those of the satsuma mandarin. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis of carotenes from the flesh of HH showed that the content was the same as that of the satsuma mandarin, with β-cryptoxanthin producing the main carotenoid spectrum, whereas lutein and violaxanthin were the main carotenoids in CH. Nuclear simple sequence repeat, chloroplast simple sequence repeat, and mitochondrial simple sequence repeat analyses showed that the leaves, outer pericarp (epidermis and flavedo), segment wall, and juice sac of HH contained the nuclear, chloroplast, and mitochondrial genomes of both donors; however, the albedo of HH only contained the genetic material of CH. Thus, HH is confirmed to be a periclinal chimera that consists of L1 from C. unshiu and L2/L3 from CH.

        Rapid warning of wind turbine blade icing based on MIV-tSNE-RNN

        A fast early warning algorithm for wind turbine blade icing based on a RNN model is proposed. Through wind turbine blade history data and labels as model input, the evaluation of raw m-dimension data through mean impact value (MIV) indices eliminates data with an MIV index of less than one; the remaining n-dimension data is reduced to x-dimension by the tSNE method; dimensional data is inputted into the RNN, and the model output is the icing state of the wind turbine blade in a certain future period. Based on the SCADA data from a wind field, the model was verified by an example. Using a certain example case, if the model training data is 10 4 orders of magnitude, using the MIV-tSNE-RNN algorithm, the prediction accuracy can reach approximately 72 %; compared with the RNN model, the prediction accuracy is improved by approximately 150 % while reducing the algorithm running time by approximately 45 %. If the amount of data exceeds 10 4 orders of magnitude, using the MIVtSNE-RNN algorithm, the prediction accuracy is improved by approximately 100 %. This algorithm can provide accurate and rapid prediction results for wind turbine blade icing according to actual needs.

        Nonlinear stability analysis of a radially retractable hybrid grid shell in the closed position

        The buckling capacity of a radially retractable hybrid grid shell in the closed position was investigated in this paper. The geometrically non-linear elastic buckling and elasto-plastic buckling analyses of the hybrid structure were carried out. A parametric study was done to investigate the effects rise-to-span ratio, beam section, area and pre-stress of cables, on the failure load. Also, the influence of the shape and scale of imperfections on the elasto-plastic buckling loads was discussed. The results show that the critical buckling load is reduced by taking account of material non-linearity. Furthermore, increasing the rise-tospan ratio or the cross-section area of steel beams notably improves the stability of the structure. However, the cross section area and pre-stress of cables pose negligible effect on the structural stability. It can also be found that the hybrid structure is highly sensitive to geometric imperfection which will considerably reduce the failure load. The proper shape and scale of the imperfection are also important.

        Molecular Dynamics Investigation of the Effects of Concentration on Hydrogen Bonding in Aqueous Solutions of Methanol, Ethylene Glycol and Glycerol

        Hydrogen bonding interaction between alcohols and water molecules is an important characteristic in the aqueous solutions of alcohols. In this paper, a series of molecular dynamics simulations have been performed to investigate the aqueous solutions of low molecular weight alcohols (methanol, ethylene glycol and glycerol) at the concentrations covering a broad range from 1 to 90 mol %. The work focuses on studying the effect of the alcohols molecules on the hydrogen bonding of water molecules in binary mixtures. By analyzing the hydrogen bonding ability of the hydroxyl (-OH) groups for the three alcohols, it is found that the hydroxyl group of methanol prefers to form more hydrogen bonds than that of ethylene glycol and glycerol due to the intra-and intermolecular effects. It is also shown that concentration has significant effect on the ability of alcohol molecule to hydrogen bond water molecules. Understanding the hydrogen bonding characteristics of the aqueous solutions is helpful to reveal the cryoprotective mechanisms of methanol, ethylene glycol and glycerol in aqueous solutions.

        Structural Characterization of Microwave-Assisted Solution-Synthesized Strontium-Substituted Hydroxyapatite

        Hydroxyapatite and strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (n-HA and Sr-HA) were prepared by microwave-assisted solution synthesis with aqueous solutions of various Sr/(Sr+Ca) molar ratios ranging from 0% to 15%. The structural properties of the hydroxyapatite powders were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectra, field emission scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy. The results confirmed that strontium ions had been incorporated into the hydroxyapatite lattice. The synthetic n-HA and Sr-HA nanocrystalline consisted of hydroxyapatite crystalline phase with hexagonal structure, and the particle size was 30–40 x 60–70 nm and 40–50 x 70–80 nm, respectively. The calcined HA particle size ranged from about 120 nm to 150 nm, the calcined Sr-HA products were composed of spherical aggregates with a size of about 70–100 nm. The incorporation of Sr ions lead to the formation of vacancies in the crystal structure of the HA. The results indicated that the strontium substitution did not change the crystal structures. More Sr resulted in less calcined crystallites and formed agglomerates owing to the size effect.
