Development of a Mobile Application, "Wild Flowers of Bukhansan National Park (version 1.0)", for Identification of Plants in Bukhansan National Park

We developed the educational purpose mobile application, named "Wild Flowers of Bukhansan National Park (version 1.0)", aiming for easy identification of wild flowers for students and visitors in the park. When visitors find a flower or part of plant in the park, visitors can search for its name utilizing the pictures and characters provided in their own smartphone mobile devices or tablet PCs. The application provides pictures of wild flowers in the park and character-based searching system based on 12 diagnostic features (e.g., growth form, leaf arrangement, flower symmetry, petal color, petal number, sepal number, etc). We adopted the complete floristic survey of Chung and Lee (1962) and added species that we confirmed their distribution in the park during the development of this application. In summary, number of vascular plants in this park was estimated to be 428 taxa including 100 families, 280 genera, 327 species, 1 subspecies, 50 varieties, and 5 formas. We provided a total of 588 pictures representing 358 taxa and each taxon includes multiple pictures in many cases. Included identification quizzes can be an efficient educational tool as well as fun activity for students and visitors who are learning plant species in Korea. Our next step will include GPS function in the application for indicating visitor's location and for providing previously reported sites of the species that we interested in the map of the park. The future application which includes GPS function will be a valuable tool for the monitoring of rare plants, plant researches related to the climate changes, etc. We currently provide Korean iPhone version only, and English version and both of android versions will be serviced soon.

Characteristics of a Current‑Limiting DC Circuit Breaker with a Superconducting Coil Applied to the Commutation Circuit

We research team has proposed a current-limiting superconducting DC circuit breaker that combines a High-temperature superconducting wire (HTS) with a DC circuit breaker, and secured its operation performance in our previous study via simulation. In this paper, we designed and produced an actual current-limiting superconducting DC circuit breaker, as well as analyzed its current limiting and breaking performance. In addition, the operation characteristics at diferent lengths of the HTS with increasing voltage were analyzed. The operation reliability of the proposed DC circuit breaker was demonstrated by a simulation system that was built similar to the actual system.

콜롬비아 소가모스에서 미세먼지 감축 시나리오 분석

콜롬비아 소가모스 지역에서 미세먼지 감축 시나리오를 TAPM 모델을 활용하여 도출하고 평가하였다. 시나리오 1의 제철소 및 금속 등 중공업 오염원을 대상으로 미세먼지 방지 기술을 이용하여 배출량을 80% 감축하는 방안에서는 도시 중심 평균 농도는 6.5 μg m-3로 1.5 % 감소하였고, 모델영역에서 최고 평균농도는 387 μg m-3 로 변동 없었다. 시나리오 2의 벽돌 및 석회공장 등을 대상으로 연료를 석탄에서 코크스로 교체하여 90 % 감축하는 방안에서는 도시 중심 평균 농도는 4.5 μg m-3로 31.8%, 모델영역에서 최고 평균농도는 111 μg m-3 로 71.6 % 감소하였다. 시나리오 1과 시나리오 2를 결합한 시나리오 3에서는 도시 중심에서 평균 농도는 4.3 μg m-3로 34.8 %, 모델영역에서 최고 평균농도는 110 μg m-3 로 71.7 % 감소하였다. 소가모스 지역에서 대기환경을 개선하는 로드맵 수립에는 수공업에서 주로 사용되는 석탄 연료를 청정연료인 코크스로 교체하는 방안이 최우선으로 고려되어야 하겠다. 이후 미세먼지 방지 시설을 굴뚝에 설치하는 방안도 차선책으로 고려하여 환경과 경제가 선 순환하는 녹색성장관점에서 장기적인 미세먼지 개선 마스터 플랜이 수립되어야 하겠다. Reduction scenarios for PM10 concentration in Sogamoso, Colombia were analyzed using the TAPM( The Air Pollution Model). The average concentration of PM10 in the downtown area was 6.5 μg m-3, a reduction of 1.5 %. The maximum average concentration in the model domain was 387 μg m-3 without any reduction in scenarios 1 which the PM10 emissions from heavy industries such as iron and metal was reduced by 80 % using the prevention technology. In scenario 2 which the PM10 emissions from the brick and lime industries was reduced by 90 % substituting coke (a cleaner fuel) for coal, the average concentration of PM10 in the downtown area was 4.5 μg m-3, a reduction of 31.8 % , the maximum average concentration in the model domain was 111 μg m-3 , a reduction of 71.6 %. In scenario 3 which the scenarios 1 and 2 were combined, the average concentration of PM10 in the downtown area was 4.3 μg m-3, a reduction of 34.8 % and the maximum average concentration was 110 μg m-3, a reduction of 71.7 %. To put forward a road map for the reduction of PM10 in the Sogamos region, substituting coke for coal in manual industries should have priority over reduction policies. Also, it is highly recommended that a longterm master plan for reducing PM10 concentrations should be established with a focus on environmentally-friendly development and future green growth policy with a win-win relationship between economy and environment.

백서와 기니픽의 대뇌피질에서 Opioid Kappa 수용체의 특성에 관한 연구

In this study, we tested the influences of several κ opioid ligands on the [³H]diprenorphine binding in rat and guinea pig cortex membrane preparations. Using paradigm to block μ and δ opioid receptors with DAMGO(1μM) and DPDPE(1μM), [³H]diprenorphine labeled κ sites. Competition analysis in both rat and guinea pig cortex has shown a single population of [³H]diprenorphine binding site with different Kd values, respectively. There is a significant difference in Ki values of (-) WIN44441 and (+)WIN44441 in both rat and guinea pig cortex. Bremazocine, (-)ethylketocyclazocine, (-)cyclazocine, nor-binaltorphimine effectively inhibited the [³H]diprenorphine binding with different Ki values in rat and guinea pig cortex. U-69,593, U-50,488H and dynorphine-A (1-8) did not inhibit the [³H]diprenorphine binding in rat but in guinea pig cortex. Nor-binaltorphimine was a ligand discriminate the κ₁, and κ₂ receptor most effectively. We, also, examined the influence of Na ion and GTPγS, a nonhydrolyzable guanine nucleotide analog, on the inhibition of [³H]diprenorphine binding by diprenorphine, (-)ethyl-ketocyclazocine, U-69,593 and bremazocine. By the replacement of NaCl with N-methy-D-glucamine or addition of GTPγS, Ki values of diprenorpnine were not changed and that of ethylketocyclazocine were changed significantly in both rat and guinea pig cortex. The Ki value of bremazocine was decreased by removal of Na ion, and increased by GTPγS, however, was not changed by any one of either. These results suggest that there are 2 kinds of subtypes of κ opioid receptor, κ₁, and κ₂, showing different Ki values for various κ opioid ligands, also, bremazocine possess the antagonistic property at κ₂ site which is dominant subtype of K receptor in rat cortex.

국소성 분절성 사구체 경화증의 완전 관해 후 발병한 IgA 신병증 1예

We report a rare case of primary glomerular disease with IgA nephropathy in a 43-year old man. 7-years ago, he was diagnosed with minimal change nephrotic syndrome. After treatment with steroid for 1-year, azotemia and proteinuria were improved. But, nephrotic range proteinuria was relapsed within 1 week after cessation of steroid. Renal biopsy revealed focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, and achived a complete remission with the use of steroids and cyclophosphamide. Then, he was followed up with normal renal function for 4-years. On admission, the patient showed generalized edema and marked proteinuria. In 3rd renal biopsy, mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis with diffuse global sclerosis was observed. Electron microscopy showed electron-dense deposit on the mesangium with slight mesangial proliferation, and immunofluoroscence microscopy showed granular deposits of IgA and IgM. These features were consistent with IgA nephropathy, different from results of previous biopsies. The pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy occurred with primary FSGS is not clear, as well as treatment. Now, proteinuria is improving, steroid and cyclophosphamide are probably useful for the disease.

Duodeno-colonic fistula is an enterocolonic fistula that occurs as a complication of Crohn`s disease. Symptoms of duodeno colonic fistula are similar to those of Crohn`s disease, such as weight loss and diarrhea. The treatment of choice is surgery, although medical treatment may also be considered. However, surgery is recommended when all available medical therapies have been ineffective. In this case, we report a secondary duodeno-colonic fistula due to Crohn`s disease that was temporarily managed by an endoscopic procedure with a detached endoloop and hemoclips as a bridging therapy to final surgical repair.

삼일열 말라리아에 합병된 비장 파열 1예

국내의 토착형 말라리아는 삼일열 말라리아로, 1993년부터 재유행이 시작되었다. 말라리아의 중요한 합병증으로 드물지만 비장 파열이 있는데, 이는 주로 삼일열 말라리아에 의해서 발생되며, 국내에서는 1999년 말라리아에 의한 비장 파열로 비장 절제술을 시행한 예가 보고된 바 있다. 현재까지는 비장 파열이 있을 때 비장 절제술이 일차적인 치료로 되어 있으나, 비장 절제술 후의 감염 위험성이 크므로, 활력 징후가 불안정하거나, 출혈이 지속되는 소견이 보이지 않으면 가급적 보존적 치료를 하는 것이 추천된다. 저자들은 비장 파열이 동반된 말라리아 환자에서 비장 절제술을 시행하지 않고 보존적 치료로 호전된 예를 경험하여 보고하는 바이다. Plasmodium vivax has been the predominant Plasmodium species in the Republic of Korea and reemerged in 1993. Spontaneous rupture of malarial spleen is a rare but important complication associated with P. vivax infection. Only one case of spontaneous rupture of malarial spleen was reported in Korea in 1999. Splenectomy is still accepted as the treatment of choice in cases of spontaneous rupture of the spleen. But, considering increased risk of postsplenectomy infecion, splenectomy should be reserved for those patients with severe rupture or those with continued or recurrent bleeding. And conservative treatment should be considered in selected, closely monitored patients. We report a patient with P. vivax malaria who developed a spontaneous splenic rupture and was improved by conservative treatment.

우리나라 노인여성의 골다공증성 척추골절로 인한 경제적 부담 추계

Objectives : To estimate the economic burden of osteoporotic vertebral fracture (VF) from a societal perspective. Methods : From 2002 to 2004, we identified all National Health Insurance claims records for women ${\geq}50$ years old with a diagnosis of VF. The first 6-months was defined as a "clearance period," such that patients were considered as incident cases if their first claim of fracture was recorded after June 30, 2002. We only included patients with ${\geq}$ one claim of a diagnosis of, or prescription for, osteoporosis over 3 years. For each patient, we cumulated the claims amount for the first visit and for the follow-up treatments for 1 year. The hospital charge data from 4 hospitals were investigated to measure the proportion of the non-covered services. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 106 patients from the 4 study sites to measure the out-of-pocket spending outside of hospitals. Results : During 2.5 years, 131,453 VF patients were identified. The patients had an average of 3.38 visits, 0.40 admissions and 6.36 inpatient days. The per capita cost was 1,909,690 Won: 71.5% for direct medical costs, 20.6% for direct non-medical costs and 7.9% for indirect costs. The per capita cost increased with increasing age: 1,848,078 Won for those aged 50-64, 2,084,846 Won for 65-74, 2,129,530 Won for 75-84and 2,121,492 Won for those above 84. Conclusions : Exploring the economic burden of osteoporotic VF is expected to motivate to adopt effective treatment options for osteoporosis in order to prevent the incidence of fracture and the consequent costs.

고양이에서 영양학적인 원인에 의해 발생한 속발성 부갑상선기능항진증 1례

A 10 month-old Korean domestic shorthaired cat(male, 1.4kg)was admitted to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with the history of astasia the onest of which was 3 month ago and all-meat diets. Physical examination revealed thin, growth retarded and lying in lateral recumbency. Radiograph showed abnormally radiolucent bones, thin cortices, kyphosis and lordosis of the spine and multiple fractures of the femurs. Result of serum biochemical test revealed mild hypocarcemia. Serum parathormone and 1, 25(OH)2-vitamin D3 levels were markedly elevated, whereas 25(OH)-vitamin D3 level was in normal range. Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism was diagnosed by history taking, physical examination, laboratory examination and radiography. Calcium gluconate with balanced commercial cat food was given. On 24 days later, improvements were found in clinical signs and radiographs.

F9 기형암종 세포의 분화에 따른 small GTP-binding protein변화

세포분화에 따른 Small GTP-binding protein의 역할을 밝히기 위하여 Retinoic acid(RA)와 dibutyryl cyclic AMP(dbc AMP) 로 분화를 유도한 F9 기형암종세포의 형태적인 변화와 함께Small GTP-binding protein의 분포를 조사하였다. RA와 dbc AMP를 처리한 세포는 분화유도 5일경(초기 분화 단계)에 분명한 세포의 경계를 보이기 시작하여 7일경(분화 후기 단계)에는 거의 모든 세포가 둥근 분화된 형태로 전환되었다. 이 분화과정 동안 세포막에는 많은 microville와 lamellopodia 같은 구조물이 나타났다. 아울러 초기 분화 단계에 많은 량의 laminin이 발현되었으며 분화 후기에 microtuble 의 재분포가 관찰되었다. 세종류의Small GTP-binding protein(25,23,21 KD )이 F9 세포의 막성분과 세포질에서 관찰되었으며 분화가 진행됨에 따라서 세단백질 모두 중가되는 양상을 보였다. 이러한 결과는Small GTP-binding protein이 F9세포의 분화에 특별한 기능을 가지고 있음을 시사해주고 있다. To adress possible roles of the small GTP-binding proteins in differentation of F9 teratocarcinoma stem cells, the distribution anf amount fo these proteins together with morphological changes of the cells were studied during the differentiation of F9 cells induced by retionic acid and dibutyryl cyclic AMP(dbc AMP). When monolayer cultures of F9 cells were induced to differentiate with retionic acid dbc AMP, the cells started to show distinctive cell boundaries in about 5 days(early differentiation stge) and reached fully differentiated shaper in about 7 days(late differentiation stage). During this differentiation process, membranes of the cells developed a large number of microville and lamellopodia. In addition, expression of laminin increased maximally in early stage, then microtuble rearrangement followed in late differentiation stage. Three classes of small GTP-binding proteins with sizes of 25,23 and 21 kD were fiund in both microsomes and cytosols of F9 cells. These proteins increased along with progress of the differentiation. These results suggest that these small GTPbinding proteins likely have specific roles in the differentiation of F9 cells.
