      • Lipopolysaccharide, Dexamethasone, 및 N-Nitro-L-Arginine Methyl Ester가 흰쥐 간 조직의 프리라디칼 발생과 제거에 미치는 영향

        Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulates various immune and inflammatory reactions to induces the generation of reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI) and reactive nitrogen intermediates (RNI). ROI and RNI are free radicals with very high reactivity, oxidize cellular constituents including proteins and lipid membranes, and thus play important roles in the pathogenesis of tissue damages in LPS-induced septic shock. The present study examined effects of dexamethasone (DexM), and N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) on the generation of ROI and RNI, and on the activities of enzymes removing ROI in the liver of rat model of septic shock. DexM has widely been used as an immunosuppressant. L-NAME has known to block synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), the main RNI, by inhibiting NO synthase (NOS). LPS (10 mg/kg body weight) markedly enhanced NO generation in serum and liver. The increased NO generation was completely blocked by pretreatment with DexM (10 mg/kg) and effectively inhibited by L-NAME (10 mg/kg). Induction of NOS protein expression by LPS was demonstrated by a Western analysis. The NOS expression was completely blocked by DexM pre-treatment, and markedly inhibited by L-NAME. However, the generation of superoxide radical, an important ROI, was not enhance in rat liver by LPS, rather it was decreased a little. Superoxide radical production was increased by L-NAME treatment or combined treatment of DexM and LPS. The level of lipid peroxidation, an index for free radical-induced cell damage, was increased by either LPS or DexM. The enhancement of lipid peroxidation by DexM was abolished by adding LPS. DexM markedly enhanced the activities of ROI removing enzymes, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase. However, rats were treated with LPS in addition to DexM, the elevated activities of superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase were abolished. These results provide information on the generation and removal of ROI and RNI by LPS, DexM and L-NAME in rat liver, and on development of drugs to inhibit free radical-induced liver damage in sepsis.

        한약재를 첨가한 오소리 발효액이 폐경기 증후군과 Estradiol 농도 및 골대사에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to investigated the possibility of Meles meles as an edible functional resource. To asses the effects Meles meles fermented liquid(ML) with medicinal plants in postmenopausal women, the menopause symptoms, hematological and serum chemical variables and bone health indices were examined. Twenty five postmenopausal women participated in the study. As a result, in postmenopausal women, ML supplements were effective in reducing the incidence of menopause symptoms, such as insomnia(44.0%), sensitivity(40.0%), headache(34.0%), hot flush and decreased vaginal lubrication(20.0%) after 12 weeks. Also serum estradiol and calcitonin and calcium levels were 23.27 pg/mL, 14.88 pg/mL and 8.86 ㎎/dL before the ML intake. Levels were significantly increased of estradiol and calcitonin and calcium after ML intake during 12 weeks to 30.36 pg/mL, 21.61 pg/mL and 10.01 ㎎/dL. Osteocalcin and bone alkaline phosphatase activity were 14.36 ng/mL, 21.55 U/L before the ML intake, but according to ML intake, the levels were significantly decreased. In conclusion, ML Play benefical roles in the prevention of bone loss and menopause symptoms. Howere current data are not sufficient to determine the effective doses for benefical effect as well as harmful effect and support dietary recommendation level for ML. Therefore, our results should be viewed with caution. But Meles meles fermented liquid with medicinal plants can be used as possible food resources and functional food materials, more studies are needed to identify the proper mechanism of ML.

        인삼잎과 줄기 혼합 추출액의 첨가급식이 흰쥐의 성장, 영양효과 및 혈청 지질에 미치는 영향

        This study was conducted to investigate the application possibility of leaf and stem extract(LSE) extracted from the mixture of leaf and stem of ginseng radix(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer). This study measured the intake levels and efficiency ratio, growth rate, absorption ratio of carbohydrate, lipid and protein of rat by feeding with LSE during 6 weeks. We analyse the hematological and serum metabolic variables, serum lipid concentrations. Total diet and protein intake levels were low, but efficiency ratios were significantly high in LSE administered groups than the control group. Weight gain, liver and kidney weight of LSE groups were significantly higher than the control group. Blood RBC, Hct, Hb, total protein and albumin concentrations were reasonable levels in LSE administered groups compared to the basal diet group. Also serum total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride contents of LSE groups were low, but HDL-cholesterol level was higher than the basal diet group. These results imply that leaf and stem of ginseng radix could be used as possible food resources, functional food material and feed stuff.

        한국인 주요우울장애 환자에서 혈중 ACTH, Cortisol 농도와 해밀턴 우울 평가 척도의 신체증상 항목과의 상관관계

        Objectives:Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenocortical(HPA) system dysregulation plays an important role in the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder. Medically unexplained somatic symptoms comprised the predominant complaints of korean patients with major depressive disorder. It might be related to dysregulation of HPA system and somatic symptoms. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between Hamilton Depression Rating Scale severity and the Plasma Adrenocorticotropic Hormone(ACTH) & Serum Cortisol level in Korean patients with major depressive disorder. Methods:Our study design was prospective. A total 111 hospitalized patients with major depressive disorder (DSM-IV) at Anam Hospital, Korea University Medical Center between Jan 2009 and May 2011 were selected. Hamilton Depression Rating Scale was measured by psychiatrist. Plasma ACTH, Serum Cortisol levels were analyzed at the time of admission. Results:There are significant correlations(p<0.05) between Hamilton Depression Rating Scale of somatic component(HAM-D 11-15 item) and Plasma ACTH and Serum Cortisol level. However, other HAM-D sub items were not significantly correlated with Plasma ACTH and Serum Cortisol level except somatic component. Conclusion:Our Study results suggest that hyperactivity of HPA axis might be correlation with somatic symptoms in korean patients with major depressive disorder.

      • 고등학교 학생들의 환경 교육 실태와 교육 효과 분석

        In this study, it is aimed to clarify the effects of the environment education among the high school students. The study is accomplished by the survey which includes a total of 558 sampled from the six high school having the environmental curriculum and without curriculum. The survey took for 10 days from the date of 3th July 2000 to 13th July 2000 and the results were as follows; 1.The results by multiple regression analysis were as follows; Score of educated environmental subjects, mother's interest of environment, awarness of severity of the environmental pollution, environmental information source (Television) were statistically significant effected to factors on environmental knowledge score (R2=0.090). 2.The factor affecting awarness of severity of environmental pollution were necessity of environmental conservations and the environmental education, scholastic grade (R2=0.101). 3.The affecting factors on the environmental practice were mother's interest of environment and necessity of environmental conservation, family type, environmental information source (parents), score of the educated environmental subjects, and environmental knowledge level (R2=0.183). From the results of this study, we are to propose as follow; Because the purpose of environment education is the practice, it is important to induce changing the recognition and behavior. Therefore educational policy have to build up experience place, to bring up professional teacher of environment and safety health education. It need to develope a reference of each subject and to utilize various media. Especially it need to choice of environment education with safety and health education.

        노인의 성 지식과 태도 및 교육요구

        knowledge, attitudes, and educational needs for sexuality of the elderly. Method: This was a descriptive study, in which data were collected from February to April 2002 from 354 elderly who were residing in Chung-Chung province. Result: 1. The level of knowledge regarding sexuality was below average. 2. The level of the attitudes toward sexuality of the elderly was neither positive nor negative. 3. The educational needs of the elderly were above average. 4. Higher level of knowledge on sexuality was significantly correlated with more positive attitudes and education needs for sexuality, and more positive attitudes toward sexuality was significantly correlated with more educational needs for sexuality. Conclusion: Particularly men, with good health, and those who were in intimate relationships with their spouses and still engaged with active sexual life showed somewhat higher level of knowledge and positive attitudes as well as higher educational needs. Therefore, further development and applying of sexuality promotion programs for healthy elder couples should be considered in the future to enhance the quality of life of elder population. In addition, it is also suggested to develop an alternative intervention program on sexuality for elderly who are women, those with meager health, and the bereaved.

        오리부산물과 한약재를 이용한 추출액의 영양성분 및 중금속 노출에 대한 피해 완화 효과 : (Ⅱ) 중금속 노출에 대한 오리추출액의 피해 완화 효과 (Ⅱ) Damage Mitigation Effects on Heavy-metals Exposure of Peking-Duck By-Product Extracts

        This study was performed to investigate the effects of peking-duck extracts added with medicinal herbs(DJ) on the intoxication of heavy metals (Hg, Pb, Cd, As) in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 150±15g, were randomly assigned to 5 groups: basal diet only in normal control group(NCG); basal diet and heavy metals without DJ injection in heavy metal control group(HMC); basal diet, heavy metals and DJ(3㎎/㎖) injection in heavy metal low duck juice group(HMLD), basal diet, heavy metals and DJ(30㎎/㎖) injection in heavy metal middle duck juice group(HMMlD); basal diet, heavy metal and DJ(300㎎/㎖) injection in heavy metal high duck juice group(HMHD). Hg and As was injected by 50ppm and Cd and Pb by 25ppm for 17days. Also DJ oral feeding was conducted for 28days. The result of this study were as follows: Food intake and body weight gain in heavy metal administered groups were lower than those of NCG. Liver, kidney and testis weights were not significantly different among 5 groups. GOT, GPT and BUN activities were significantly reduced in DJ treated groups as compared to HMC. DJ showed the suppressing effect on the accumulation of Hg, Pb and Cd in serum, liver and kidney. Fecal Hg and Cd excretions increased with DJ feeding. The results suggested that DJ may have some protective effects on Hg, Cd and Pb intoxication by reducing the accumulation m tissues and increasing excretion. This study also showed the effective way of using duck-extract and its application to the oriental medicine.
