A cooling control method based on a model predictive control (MPC) for a modular datacenter utilizing the fresh-air is proposed. The proposed method reduces the total energy consumption of information technology (IT) equipment and cooling facilities in the data center, while considering a relationship between energy-savings and the temperature information of IT equipment. This method based on MPC controls the central processing unit (CPU) temperature in servers by facility fans for cooling. To design the proposed method, it is developed a prediction model that represents the CPU temperature by the revolution speed of facility fans, the fresh-air temperature, utilization of servers, and other factors. Furthermore, the proposed control method is applied to the actual modular data center. The energy consumption of the proposed method is compared with that of a traditional method, which has controlled the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the server racks based on proportional integral (PI) control. Actual comparison experiments with traditional method are provided to validate effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method realizes energy-savings of more than 20% compared to the traditional control method in the actual modular datacenter.

Surface fog coating methods to porous pavements with a polymer, that contains MMA as a main ingredient, are being widely used in Japan and called Top-Coat Processes. They have lots of effects such as to prevention of the pavement void choking, improvement of the water permeability of the pavements and so on. The purpose of this research is to show the characterization of the polymer to optimize the functions of the polymer fog-coat methods. This study focused on the difference of wetting by water among polymers used for the fog coatings, and calculation the surface free energy from the water contact angle on each material. At the end, the water permeability test were conducted using porous asphalt mixtures that were coated with several kinds of polymers. The permeability was also measured on the specimens that were forcibly choked by muddy water and the resistance to choking was compared. It is concluded that the reduction of the surface free energy between water and a polymer improves the life of the permeability functions of porous pavements. Improvement of water permeation capacity and void-blocking controlling effects can be quantitatively evaluated using the interfacial tension (γsl) with water for the coating material (high-viscosity asphalt and hardening resin binder). Consequently, the smaller the γsl of the coating material the higher the water permeation capacity and void-blocking controlling effects of the porous asphalt pavements.

Background: In super acute phase after the Great East Japan Earthquake (11 March 2011), Disaster medical association team (DMAT) consisted of emergency physicians acted in disaster areas in the East Coast of Japan. On the other hand, these areas needed chronic care support by general physicians because of the enormous destructions of the medical facilities by the tsunami. So then, the Japanese Red Cross Society had sent disaster emergency outpatient assistance doctors to Isinomaki Red Cross Hospital, was intact because it was moved away from the Pacifi c Ocean three years ago. Methods: Determination of specialism by direct hearing and information from home page of each Red Cross Hospitals. Results: Cumulative 81 medical doctors were 38 internal medicine physicians, trainees 15, emergency physicians 12, surgeon 6, pediatrician 3, orthopedic surgeon 3, anesthesiologist 2, obstetrician 2, from April to August 2011. At fi rst 6 dispatched doctors were resident and did emergency outpatient work in Ishinomaki Red Cross Hospital for 6 days and dipatched. A lot of Cases of pneumonia and bronchial asthma due to debris and rubble by Tsunami were seen. All dispatch doctors corresponded to primary surgery including fractures and trauma, pediatric diseases, and posttraumatic stress disorder due to earthquake itself, tsunami damage, and radiation problem of Fukushima. Conclusions: The role of general physicians is very important in chronic phase of disaster medical assistance. Medical facilities in the area with many earthquakes should be moved apart from the sea in order to avoid the damage of tsunami.

Objective : Accumulated evidence collected via functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has been reported with regard to mental disorders. A previous finding revealed that emotional words evoke left frontal cortex activity in patients with depression. The primary aim of the current study was to replicate this finding using an independent dataset and evaluate the brain region associated with the severity of depression using an emotional Stroop task. Methods : Oxygenized and deoxygenized hemoglobin recording in the brain by fNIRS on 14 MDD patients and 20 normal controls. Results : Hyperactivated oxygenized hemoglobin was observed in the left frontal cortex on exposure to unfavorable stimuli, but no significant difference was found among patients with depression compared with healthy controls on exposure to favorable stimuli. This result is consistent with previous findings. Moreover, an evoked wave associated with the left upper frontal cortex on favorable stimuli was inversely correlated with the severity of depression. Conclusion : Our current work using fNIRS provides a potential clue regarding the location of depression symptom severity in the left upper frontal cortex. Future studies should verify our findings and expand them into a precise etiology of depression.
X-ray Absorption Study of the Local Dipole Moment in SrTiO3 under Uniaxial Pressure

X-ray absorption spectra under uniaxial pressure were measured at the Ti K-edge of a SrTiO3 single crystal in order to obtain direct evidence for the ferroelectric transition that is expected on the basis of second harmonic generation studies. A uniaxial pressure was applied perpendicular to the ab-plane. The pre-edge peak, which corresponds to Ti 3d eg-O 2pσ bonding, shows little change across the transition temperature of 40 K at 1 GPa. This indicates that a local electric dipole moment is not induced under uniaxial pressure, as opposed to the macroscopic ferroelectric moments that are predicted to be induced along the ab-plane.
