      • Fenofibrate Increases Radiosensitivity in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma via Inducing G2/M Arrest and Apoptosis

        Radiation therapy is an important treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). However, how to promote radiation sensitivity in HNSCC remains a challenge. This study aimed to investigate the radiosensitizing effects of fenofibrate on HNSCC and explore the underlying mechanisms. HNSCC cell lines CNE-2 and KB were subjected to ionizing radiation (IR), in the presence or absence of fenofibrate treatment. Cell growth and survival, apoptosis and cell cycle were evaluated. In addition, CNE-2 cells were xenografted into nude mice and subjected to IR and/or fenofibrate treatment. The expression of cyclinB and CDK1 was detected by Western blotting. Our results showed that fenofibrate efficiently radiosensitized HNSCC cells and xenografts in mice, and induced apoptosis and G2/M arrest via reducing the activity of the CDK1/cyclinB1 kinase complex. These data suggest that fenofibrate could be a promising radiosensitizer for HNSCC radiotherapy.

        Comparative Study of DC Breakdown and Space Charge Characteristics of Insulation Paper Impregnated with Natural Ester and Mineral Oil

        Natural ester is a suitable substitute for mineral oil and has been widely used in AC transformer in many countries. In order to further application of natural ester in direct current (DC) equipment, it is needed to investigate its long term insulation property under DC condition. In this paper, a thermal ageing experiment was conducted for both mineral oil-paper and natural ester-paper insulation. The DC breakdown and space charge characteristics of insulation paper impregnated with natural ester and mineral oil was compared. Results show that the resistivity of the paper immersed in natural ester and mineral oil both increase as the ageing goes on. While insulation paper impregnated with natural ester has higher resistivity and DC breakdown voltage than the paper impregnated with mineral oil. The DC breakdown voltage for the oil impregnated insulation paper being DC pre-stressing is higher than that without pre-stressing. The average DC breakdown field strength difference between the test with pre-stressing and without pre-stressing clearly shows that there is an apparent enhancement effect for the homo-charge injection on the DC breakdown.

      • Pseudo Base Location for Mobile Terminal with Abnormal Dynamic Access

        In passive bearing-only localization of onboard mono-station, if abnormal error existed in observed value, using extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm can lead to biased results. For enhance the robustness of the algorithm, to construct robustness equivalent gain matrix on the basis of standardized predicted residual, and apply the robustness EKF algorithm to passive bearing-only localization of onboard mono-station. According to the characteristics of inefficient robustness EKF algorithm, combined with F distribution statistics, propose the mono-station passive location algorithm based on the improved extended Kalman filtering, and by adding single abnormal error and continuous abnormal error in observed value, test the resistant ability of algorithm to different abnormal errors. Simulation shows that the proposed algorithm can weaken the influence of abnormal error on position estimation, and can improve the efficiency of positioning based on F distribution discriminant algorithm.

        Twin-screw extrusion synthesis of low-cost cobalt ferrite ceramic pigments using natural mixed-dimensional palygorskite clay

        Due to the disadvantages of traditional solid-phase and liquid-phase methods for preparation of mixedmetal oxide ceramic pigments, it is indispensable to develop a green, clean, low-cost and continuouspreparation technology. In this study, the low-cost and high-performance cobalt ferrite ceramic pigmentswere facilely prepared based on natural mixed-dimensional palygorskite clay by a continuousmechanochemical method using twin-screw extrusion. The incorporation of the mixed-dimensionalpalygorskite clay effectively improved the agglomeration of pigment nanoparticles and decreased theproduction cost. The hybrid pigments presented the optimal color properties (L* = 17.16, a* = 1.07, b* =3.58 and C* = 3.74) when the cobalt ferrite content, calcination temperature and time were 60 wt%,1100 C and 90 min, respectively. Furthermore, the as-prepared hybrid pigments exhibited excellentchemical and thermal stability and biocompatibility, the mass tone and hiding power of the hybrid pigmentswere superior to the commercial cobalt black pigments, thus the obtained hybrid pigments couldbe served as an eco-friendly underglaze pigment for coloring of ceramic embryo body with good colorsaturation. Beyond all doubt, this study will provide a promising strategy for continuous cleaner preparationof low-cost cobalt ferrite ceramic pigments.

        Enhancing Performances of Polyamide 66 Short Fiber/Natural Rubber Composites via In Situ Vulcanization Reaction

        This paper details a new method for improving the interfacial bonding between PA66 short fiber (PSF) and natural rubber (NR) by reaction of the methacrylic acid (MAA)-grafting-modified PSF with rubber during vulcanization. Carboncarbon double bonds introduced to the SF surface by MAA grafting were opened, and a vulcanization reaction occurred between the modified PSF and rubber in the presence of sulfur. The chemical reactions were verified by FTIR and XPS. The processing rheological behaviors of the compounded composites were investigated by a rubber processing analyzer (RPA). The morphology of modified PSF was characterized by AFM and SEM. The improved interfacial bonding was confirmed by DMA, which enhanced deformational stress at definite elongation of the NR/PSF composites. The volume concentration of the MAA solution for grafting on the SF surface had a great influence on the interfacial bonding and mechanical properties of the composites; when the volume concentration was 30 %, the modified PSF-reinforced NR/CB had the best interfacial bonding and mechanical properties.

        MiR-1297 and MiR-26a-5p Inhibit Cell Progression of Keratinocytes in Cholesteatoma Depending on the Regulation of BMI1

        Cholesteatoma is a pathologically benign but clinically destructive middle ear disease characterized by hyperproliferative keratinocytes. B-cell-specific Moloney murine leukemia virus insertion site 1 (BMI1) has been reported to be upregulated in cholesteatoma tissues. This study aimed to explore the biological role and underlying mechanisms of BMI1 in the progression of cholesteatoma. The expression levels of microRNA (miR)-1297, miR-26a- 5p, and BMI1 in cholesteatoma tissues and cells were examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) or western blot. Functional experiments were performed by CCK-8 assay for cell proliferation viability, 5-ethynyl-2'deoxyuridine (EdU) incorporation assay for DNA biosynthesis, colony formation assay for cloning forming ability analysis, transwell assay and wound healing assay for cell metastasis, flow cytometry for cell cycle distribution and cell apoptosis. The protein expression of apoptosis-associated proteins was investigated by western blot. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was conducted to verify the interaction between miR-1297 or miR-26a-5p and BMI1. BMI1 was highly expressed in cholesteatoma tumor tissues. Functional analyses showed that BMI1 knockdown could inhibit the proliferation, colony formation, migration, invasion, cell cycle progression and promoted the apoptosis of keratinocytes. Mechanically, BMI1 was a target of miR-1297 and miR-26a-5p. Moreover, the rescue experiments presented that BMI1 addition could abolish the suppressive effects of miR-1297 or miR-26a-5p overexpression on cell malignant behaviors in keratinocytes. BMI1 could exert an oncogenic role in the malignant development of cholesteatoma through serving as the targets of miR-1297 and miR-26a-5p, which might provide novel strategies for cholesteatoma treatment.

      • Damage localization and quantification of a truss bridge using PCA and convolutional neural network

        Deep learning algorithms for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) have been extracting the interest of researchers and engineers. These algorithms commonly used loss functions and evaluation indices like the mean square error (MSE) which were not originally designed for SHM problems. An updated loss function which was specifically constructed for deep-learningbased structural damage detection problems has been proposed in this study. By tuning the coefficients of the loss function, the weights for damage localization and quantification can be adapted to the real situation and the deep learning network can avoid unnecessary iterations on damage localization and focus on the damage severity identification. To prove efficiency of the proposed method, structural damage detection using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) was conducted on a truss bridge model. Results showed that the validation curve with the updated loss function converged faster than the traditional MSE. Data augmentation was conducted to improve the anti-noise ability of the proposed method. For reducing the training time, the normalized modal strain energy change (NMSEC) was extracted, and the principal component analysis (PCA) was adopted for dimension reduction. The results showed that the training time was reduced by 90% and the damage identification accuracy could also have a slight increase. Furthermore, the effect of different modes and elements on the training dataset was also analyzed. The proposed method could greatly improve the performance for structural damage detection on both the training time and detection accuracy.

        Effects of diff erent NO 3 − :NH 4 + ratios on the photosynthesis and ultrastructure of lettuce seedlings

        Nitrate nitrogen (NO 3− ) and ammonium N (NH 4+ ) are the two main forms of nitrogen (N). The eff ects of the NO 3− :NH 4+ ratio(0:100, 25:75, 50:50, 75:25, and 100:0) in the nutrient solution on growth, pigment content, photosynthetic parameters, chlorophyll(Chl) precursor content, and chloroplast mitochondrial ultrastructure of lettuce leaves were evaluated to determine theappropriate N ratio for the growth of lettuce. The results showed that a ratio of nitrate to ammonium of 75:25 compared withthe single N form resulted in signifi cantly higher fresh weights in the shoots and the lower parts of the lettuce. The growthrate, as indicated by the CO 2 response curve, was increased because of the carboxylation effi ciency and dark respiration rate(Rday) of the lettuce seedlings, and the diff erence between the light compensation point and CO 2 compensation point wasreduced under single nitrate N treatment. The contents of δ-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), porphobilinogen, uroporphyrinogenIII, protoporphyrin IX, and Mg-protoporphyrin IX in seedlings at 75:25 nitrate:ammonium were higher than those inseedlings under the other treatments. The contents of Chl a and b were also the highest when the ratio of nitrate ammoniumwas 75:25. The chloroplast structure of lettuce leaves was intact, the cell membrane was completely closed to the cell wall,and the organelles were closely arranged on the cell membrane. The chloroplast was spindle-shaped and full of vesicles. The whole mitochondria were rich, the base particles were rich, the base granules were clear and rich, and the mitochondriaexhibited the overall best state with a complete structure, rich sputum, and dense inclusions. The above results show that thenutrient solution with a ratio of nitrate to ammonium of 75:25 was more conducive to Chl synthesis and the promotion ofphotosynthesis and root growth in lettuce seedlings than the other treatments. The single nitrate N nutrient solution reducedChl synthesis and photosynthesis in lettuce seedlings, while the single ammonium N nutrient solution aff ected the growthof lettuce seedlings, resulting in lower growth of lettuce shoots and roots. Therefore, the nutrient solution ratio of nitrate toammonium of 75:25 is the most suitable for the lettuce seedling growth.

        China Consensus Document on Allergy Diagnostics

        The prevalence of allergic diseases has increased dramatically in recent years in China, affecting the quality of life in 40% of the population. The identification of allergens is the key to the diagnosis of allergic diseases. Presently, several methods of allergy diagnostics are available in China, but they have not been standardized. Additionally, cross-sensitization and co-sensitization make allergy diagnostics even more complicated. Based on 4 aspects of allergic disease (mechanism, diagnosis procedures, allergen detection in vivo and in vitro as well as the distribution map of the most important airborne allergens in China) and by referring to the consensus of the European Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the World Allergy Organization, and the important literature on allergy diagnostics in China in recent years, we drafted this consensus of allergy diagnostics with Chinese characteristics. It aims to standardize the diagnostic methods of allergens and provides a reference for health care givers. The current document was prepared by a panel of experts from the main stream of professional allergy associations in China.
