DJ-1/park7 modulates vasorelaxation and blood pressure via epigenetic modification of endothelial nitric oxide synthase

<P><B>Aims</B></P><P>DJ-1/park7, a multifunctional protein, may play essential roles in the vascular system. However, the function of DJ-1/park7 in vascular contractility has remained unclear. The present study was designed to investigate whether the DJ-1/park7 is involved in the regulation of vascular contractility and systolic blood pressure (SBP).</P><P><B>Methods and results</B></P><P>Norepinephrine (NE) elevated contraction in endothelium-intact vessels in a dose-dependent manner, to a greater extent in DJ-1/park7 knockout (DJ-1/park7<SUP>−/−</SUP>) mice than in wild-type (DJ-1/park7<SUP>+/+</SUP>) mice. Acetylcholine inhibited NE-evoked contraction in endothelium-intact vessels, and this was markedly impaired in DJ-1/park7<SUP>−/−</SUP> mice compared with DJ-1/park7<SUP>+/+</SUP>. Nitric oxide (NO) production (82.1 ± 2.8% of control) and endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) expression (61.7 ± 8.9%) were lower, but H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> production (126.4 ± 8.6%) was higher, in endothelial cells from DJ-1/park7<SUP>−/−</SUP> mice than in those from DJ-1/park7<SUP>+/+</SUP> controls; these effects were reversed by DJ-1/park7-overexpressing endothelial cells from DJ-1/park7<SUP>−/−</SUP> mice. Histone deacetylase (HDAC)-1 recruitment and H3 histone acetylation at the eNOS promoter were elevated and diminished, respectively, in DJ-1/park7<SUP>−/−</SUP> mice compared with DJ-1/park7<SUP>+/+</SUP> controls. Moreover, SBP was significantly elevated in DJ-1/park7<SUP>−/−</SUP> mice compared with DJ-1/park7<SUP>+/+</SUP> controls, but this elevation was inhibited in mice treated with valproic acid, an inhibitor of Class I HDACs including HDAC-1.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>These results demonstrate that DJ-1/park7 protein may be implicated in the regulation of vascular contractility and blood pressure, probably by the impairment of NO production through H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-mediated epigenetic inhibition of eNOS expression.</P>

지리산국립공원 내 산림관리에 관한 전문가 인식 조사

This study carried out the recognition of appropriate forest managements and directions in Jirisan National Park. For this purpose, we undertook interview survey about the recognition of forest management in Jirisan National Park from ecological and forest research fields` experts. From the statistical analysis results, it was founded that the difference among respondents` types was detected about recognition of forest management in National park. However, all the respondent types recognized that the forest management in National park is essential. So the forest management in national park by forest experts and relevant institutions are revealed needed.

가야산 국립공원일대의 식생 및 식물상 연구 : 단지봉 지역을 중심으로 Especially on the Danji-bong Area

본 조사지역인 가야산국립공원은 지리학적으로는 북위 35?5′00″~35?9′30″, 동경 128?2′30″~128?09′30″에 위치하고, 행적구역상으로는 경상남도의 합천군과 거창군, 경상북도의 성주군, 고령군에 걸쳐 있으며, 총면적은 57.81 km꼬?이른다. 가야산은 우리나라 기후지역상 온대남부에 위치하고, 식물구계학적으로는 남부아구에, 식생구계학상으로는 냉온대에 속하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 또한, 전체면적의 약 82.5%가 해발 600m 이상이며, 1,000m이상이 약 10.3%에 해당된다. 가야산의 해인사-극락골-토신골 지역은 잘 보존된 소나무림이 우점하고 있고, 부분적으로 노각나무가 산생하는 것이 관찰되었으며, 해인사-진대밭골-두리봉 지역은 계곡에는 소나무와 졸참나무가 고지대에는 신갈나무 등이 부분적으로 군락을 형성하고 있었다. 또한 남산제일봉과 북사면은 각각 등산로와 임도가 형성되어 있어 소나무와 졸참나무, 신갈나무 등이 혼재된 양상을 나타내었고, 백운동계곡 주변은 다른 사면과 달리 식생의 발달정도가 소나무와 관목위주로 매우 단순했다. 특기할만한 점은 상왕봉 주변에서 흰참꽃, 설앵초, 네귀쓴풀, 백리향, 솔나리, 구름송이풀 등의 희귀 또는 고산성 식물들이 분포하는 것이 확인되었다. 가야산국립공원지역에 분포하는 양치식물 이상의 관속식물을 대상으로 조사한 결과 91과 268속 373종 1아종 75변종 12품종 4잡종으로 총 465분류군이 조사 확인되었으며, 이는 우리나라 관속식물 4,071 분류군의 11.4%에 해당되었다. 한국특산식물은 11과 15속 15분류군으로 조사지역내 분포하는 465분류군중 약 3.2%이며. 식물구계학적 특정식물은 17과 21속 25분류군으로 이는 가야산 소산식물 465분류군의 5.4%이었고, 조사지역에 분포하는 귀화식물은 5과 7속 7분류군으로 우리 나라전체 귀화식물종 177종류의 4%이다. 또한 가야산 단지봉(1,028.5m)에서 새로 발견된 산간습지 (forested wetland)와 자란초 자생 군락지에 대해 식생 및 층위별 종조성을 토대로 현존 식생 구조를 분석하였다. This study aims to investigate the flora of Mt. Gaya National Park, especially focused on the forested wetland vegetation of Danji-bong area. The flora of Mt. Gaya was investigated from April in 2003 to October in 2004. Vascular plants of this area consist of total 465 taxa, 4 hybrids, 12 forma, 75 varieties, 1 subspecies, 373 species, 268 genera, 91 families. It corresponds to 11.4% of totally 4,071 taxa appeared in Korea. Korean endemic plants were composed 11 families, 15 genera, 14 species, 1 variety and totaling 15 taxa. And also actual vegetation structures were analyzed the newly founded forested wetland and natural population Ajuga spectabilis on the Danji- bong area using the vegetation and the species composition by tree layer.

A Variant of Park-Lee Identity-Based Encryption System

<P>Recently, Park and Lee suggested a new framework for realizing Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) trapdoor called 'two-equation-revocation', and proposed a new IBE system that makes use of a Map-To-Point hash function. In this paper, we present a variant of the PL system by giving a simple way to remove the Map-To-Point hash function from the PL system. Our variant is proven to be secure under non-standard security assumptions, which results in the degradation of security. Instead, our variant can have several efficiency advantages over the PL system: (1) it provides receiver's anonymity, (2) it has no correctness error, (3) it has shorter ciphertext, and (4) it has faster encryption. As a result, (when not considering security assumptions and security losses) our variant is as efficient as the Boneh-Boyen and Sakai-Kasahara IBE systems that are considered as being the most practical ones.</P>

대전시 도시숲의 식생 및 토양특성에 관한 연구

This study was conducted to suggest appropriate methods for management of urban forest after investigating the present condition and problems of urban forests by analyzing vegetation and soil properties in urban forests in the Daejeon. On the basis of our research, Pinus rigida dominate Gyejoksan and Bomunsan. Pinus densiflora dominate Wolpyeong park and Quercus acutissima dominate Namsun park. On the basis of our result of analysis of soil chemical properties, all investigated areas have low pHs, available phosphates and exchangeable cations. They indicate that the soil of those areas have been acidifying progressively. Soil hardness measurements were conducted to know the conditions of trampled soils and the results of them show that soil hardness in Namsun park was higher than the others. This indicates that human interference affect the health of the urban forest.

Pseudomembranous colitis, caused by altering the normal colonic flora and allowing the multiplication of Clostridium difficile, is an deleterious adverse effect of antibiotics. But it is rarely reported by rifampicin. Rifampicin is one of the first line drug in the treatment of tuberculosis and many patients are exposed to its potential adverse effects. We experienced a patient that had abdominal discomfort and hematochezia due to pseudomembranous colitis after receiving antituberculous medication, and which was probably caused by rifampicin. A 82 years old man was admitted with abdominal discomfort and hematochezia for one week. On the past history he had been diagnosed as endobronchial tuberculosis about 4 months ago. Colonoscopy revealed multiple discrete whitish mucosal lesion on rectosigmoid colon, and histologic findings were consistent with pseudomembranous colitis. The antituberculous agents were discontinued and vancomycin was administered. The patient's symptoms were resolved within several days. There was no recurrence after reinstitution of the antituberculous agents excluding rifampicin. We report here on a case of pseudomembranous colitis probably due to rifampicin.

Elevational Distribution of Breeding Bird Communities in Seoraksan National Park, Korea

In this study, the elevational distribution of breeding birds in Seoraksan National Park, Korea was investigated. Forty-six species of birds were documented from line transect surveys taken from Seorakdong at 230 m above sea level (a.s.l.) to the Daechungbong summit at 1708 m asl. Birdspecies richness and diversity were highest in Seorakdong and lowest at the Daechungbong summit. As elevation increased, bird species richness and diversity decreased, with a humped-shape trend being observed between 700 m and 1200 m a.s.l. Stepwise analyses revealed that breeding bird species diversity indices were significantly negatively correlated with elevation (r² = 0.327, P < 0.001) and positively correlated with vegetational coverage (r² = 0.324, P = 0.046). Higher elevations supported fewer birds than low and intermediate elevations. Projections at the local scale, including data on behavior and habitat use by birds, will be necessary for optimal conservation and management of the bird communities in Seoraksan National Park.

표준 용매 벤젠의 Rayleigh 비의 온도 의존성

The Rayleigh ratio of benzene is a very important physical constant with which the integrated scattered intensity of laser light scattering can be converted into the absolute value. In this study temperature dependence of Rayleigh ratio of this solvent has been investigated with two different methods in the temperature range of 25-75℃. It was found that in the direct measurement the non-linear behavior of its Rayleigh ratio were observed as increasing temperature even if the scattering volume correction was applied to the scattered intensity of benzene. However the result of indirect measurement based upon the invariance of molecular weight of standard polystyrene polymer for any polymer solution temperature showed us that its temperature dependence up to 75℃ could be expressed with the Benoit's linear equation rather than the non-linear one. It seems that the scattered intensity in direct method has more complicate contributions at the elevated temperature. Further research works are necessary in order to solve such discrepancy clearly.
