A tunable polymer spatial light modulator using a poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylenechlorofluoroethylene) terpolymer with a high electrostrictive strain was demonstrated. A thin polymer film was sandwiched between a flexible layer of metal and a rigid substrate with a metal combshaped electrode. For a 14-μm-thick polymer (with electrode/gap/electrode = 5 μm/15 μm/5 μm), a first order diffraction efficiency of 24 % was observed under an electric field of 100 V/μm. The simple fabrication makes polymer deformable mirrors promising for optical devices.r
Widget-based Web Development: Basic Ideas
Daeyong Shin,Sugwon Hong 한국멀티미디어학회 2009 한국멀티미디어학회 국제학술대회 Vol.2009 No.-
Current web frameworks provide "code-reuse" for efficient and fast web development, but do not support "concept-reuse." In this paper we propose the basic ideas of widget-based web development which can provide "concept-reuse." In this scheme, widgets are the key elements which can integrate web services and user interfaces. To use "concept-reuse" in the application level, categorization will be used with widgets. A widget is considered as a web application unit, and the new applications are made by widgets. However, a widget is designed as a standalone application, so there are problems in integrating widgets. This paper proposes methods to solve those problems.

<P>Smaller transistors mean that capacitors are charged less uniformly, which increases the self-refresh current in the DRAMs used in mobile devices. Adaptive self-refresh using an on-chip thermometer can solve this problem. We propose an on-chip CMOS thermometer specifically designed for controlling the refresh period of a DRAM. This thermometer includes a novel temperature sensor which has been implemented and integrated into an LPDDR2 chip. The LPDDR2 chip is fabricated in a 44-nm DRAM process. The sensor has a temperature sensitivity of -3.2 mV/°C, over a range of 0°C to 110°C. Its resolution is 1.94°C and is only limited by the 6.2-mV step of the associated resistor ladder not by its own design. The linearity of the sensor permits one-point calibration, after which the errors in 61 sample circuits ranged between -1.42°C and +2.66°C. The sensor has an active area of 0.001725 mm2 and consumes less than 0.36 μW on average with a supply of 1.1 V. At its lowest operating temperature, this thermometer reduces the IDD6 current of the LPDDR2 chip by almost half.</P>

Hexagonal manganite LuMnO3 has a well defined on-site Mn d-d optical transition at 1.7 eV, which shows a strong correlation with antiferromagnetic ordering. Femtosecond optical pump-probe spectroscopy was used to separate the contributions of the electron-phonon and the spin degrees of freedom to the on-site Mn d-d optical transition energy Edd. Experimental results show that the Mn d-d transition is mainly coupled to the spin degree of freedom. Furthermore, the Mn d-d transition energy was found to depend on the spin temperature even well above the Neel temperature. A short-range antiferromagnetic ordering of the frustrated LuMnO3 spin system is suggested to be responsible for this behavior.
Anisotropic Properties of Stainless Steel – Clad Aluminum Sheet
Daeyong Kim,Bum Kyu Hwang,Young Seon Lee,Ji Hoon Kim,Min-Joong Kim 한국소성가공학회 2010 기타자료 Vol.2010 No.6
The production of a stainless steel - clad aluminum sheet by the cold rolling process is a more efficient and economical approach compared with the other types of processes utilized for the production of such sheets. Because both the stainless steel and aluminum sheets show the highly anisotropic behavior, it is necessary to investigate anisotropic properties of clad sheets for the design of process. In this paper, to investigate the anisotropic properties of stainless steel ? clad aluminum sheet, two kinds of clad sheets were considered: STS439/AA3003 and STS439/AA1050/STS304 clad sheets. The uni-axial tension tests at 0, 45 and 90 degrees for the rolling direction were performed to obtained yield stresses and R values. The strain ratio at balanced biaxial tension state was measured from compression disk test. In order to describe the anisotropic behavior of the clad sheet, nonquadratic anisotropic yield function Yld2000-2d was utilized.
A Workflow Scheduling Technique Using Genetic Algorithm in Spot Instance-Based Cloud
( Daeyong Jung ),( Taeweon Suh ),( Heonchang Yu ),( Joonmin Gil ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2014 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.8 No.9
Cloud computing is a computing paradigm in which users can rent computing resources from service providers according to their requirements. A spot instance in cloud computing helps a user to obtain resources at a lower cost. However, a crucial weakness of spot instances is that the resources can be unreliable anytime due to the fluctuation of instance prices, resulting in increasing the failure time of users` job. In this paper, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA)-based workflow scheduling scheme that can find the optimal task size of each instance in a spot instance-based cloud computing environment without increasing users` budgets. Our scheme reduces total task execution time even if an out-of-bid situation occurs in an instance. The simulation results, based on a before-and-after GA comparison, reveal that our scheme achieves performance improvements in terms of reducing the task execution time on average by 7.06%. Additionally, the cost in our scheme is similar to that when GA is not applied. Therefore, our scheme can achieve better performance than the existing scheme, by optimizing the task size allocated to each available instance throughout the evolutionary process of GA.
