      • Retinoid Receptors in Gastric Cancer: Expression and Influence on Prognosis

        Background: Gastric cancer is frequently lethal despite aggressive multimodal therapies, and new treatment approaches are therefore needed. Retinoids are potential candidate drugs: they prevent cell differentiation, proliferation and malignant transformation in gastric cancer cell lines. They interact with nuclear retinoid receptors (the retinoic acid receptors [RARs] and retinoid X receptors [RXRs]), which function as transcription factors, each with three subclasses, ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and ${\gamma}$. At present, little is known about retinoid expression and influence on prognosis in gastric cancers. Patients and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the expression of the subtypes RARa, $RAR{\beta}$, $RAR{\gamma}$, RXRa, $RXR{\beta}$, $RXR{\gamma}$ by immunohistochemistry in 147 gastric cancers and 51 normal gastric epithelium tissues for whom clinical follow-up data were available and correlated the results with clinical characteristics. In addition, we quantified the expression of retinoid receptor mRNA using real-time PCR (RT-PCR) in another 6 gastric adenocarcinoma and 3 normal gastric tissues. From 2008 to 2010, 80 patients with gastric cancers were enrolled onto therapy with all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA). Results: RARa, $RAR{\beta}$, $RAR{\gamma}$ and $RXR{\gamma}$ positively correlated with each other (p < 0.001) and demonstrated significantly lower levels in the carcinoma tissue sections (p < 0.01), with lower $RAR{\beta}$, $RAR{\gamma}$ and RXRa expression significantly related to advanced stages (p < =0.01). Tumors with poor histopathologic grade had lower levels of RARa and $RAR{\beta}$ in different histological types of gastric carcinoma (p < 0.01). Patients whose tumors exhibited low levels of RARa expression had significantly lower overall survival compared with patients who had higher expression levels of this receptor (p < 0.001, HR=0.42, 95.0% CI 0.24-0.73), and patients undergoing ATRA treatment had significantly longer median survival times (p = 0.007, HR=0.41, 95.0% CI 0.21-0.80). Conclusions: Retinoic acid receptors are frequently expressed in epithelial gastric cancer with a decreased tendency of expression and RARa may be an indicator of a positive prognosis. This study provides a molecular basis for the therapeutic use of retinoids against gastric cancer.

        Detection of surface roughness of mechanical drawings with deep learning

        Engineering drawing inspection is important to CAD modeling of mechanical parts. Traditional inspection methods mainly rely on manual analysis by using the CAD software, which requires expert knowledge and massive time. In view of simplifying the analysis for non-experts and improving detection efficiency and accuracy, this study proposes a generic approach combining object detection and image recognition methods to identify surface roughness of mechanical drawings. For both the object detection and image recognition methods, deep learning models with different backbone networks are trained and tested independently. Experimental results show that a combination of Faster-RCNN with ResNet101 as backbone network, and SSD with ResNet50 as backbone network achieves the best performance under our evaluation metrics.

        Electrochemical Properties of Supercapacitors Using Boron Nitrogen Double-Doped Carbon Nanotubes as Conductive Additive

        Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were doped by ammonium borate as the sources of nitrogen and boron. Under the protection of Ar gas, boron-nitrogen doped CNTs were prepared through nitriding and boronization at high temperature. It is a conductive additive. Then, the obtained CNTs were mixed with activated carbon (AC), SP, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and cellulose fiber to prepare electrodes. With all the materials, a symmetric electric double-layer supercapacitor (EDLC) was assembled. Next, the materials and electrodes were also characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The factors, chemical connections, and specific surface area of the CNTs were analyzed by X-ray energy spectrum analysis (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), as well as a specific surface area and porosimetry analyzer (BET). In addition, the electrochemical performances of electric double-layer capacitors were tested with the help of cyclic voltammetry, constant-current charging and discharging, and so on. From the results, we can make a conclusion, that is, both B and N atoms were added into the CNTs and formed bonds successfully with carbon atoms mutually. Besides, the specific surface area is about 1.5 times than that of the CNT. When the charge/discharge current density reaches 50 mA/g, we can find that the mass specific capacitance of the capacitor can run up to 32.19 F/g. Also, we observe that the maximum power density is close to 220 W/kg (700 mA/g), and the energy density can arrive 9.31 Wh/kg (50 mA/g). Based on the impedance test, the electrodes are characterized with low impedance. After 2000 cycles, the boron-nitrogen doped double-layer capacitors maintain a capacitance retention ratio of above 95%. Its power density can still achieve 220 W/kg when the energy density keeps at 3.46 Wh/kg. In other words, the electrochemical performance functions of the electric double-layer capacitors are enhanced while the CNTs serve as the electrodes.

      • Hydraulic Optimization of Multiphase Pump Based on CFD and Genetic Algorithm

        Impellers of helicon-axial multiphase pump are optimized based on CFD and genetic algorithm. The method mainly includes: CFD numerical calculation, to establish nonlinear relation through neural network, and genetic algorithm optimization extreme. Firstly, the profile of blades is parametric by spline surface and Choose 12 control points as optimization variables. Then, every optimization variable is given optimal dimension. Finally, sample database is got by using standard L27_3_13 orthogonal design table. Next, output values are got by modeling every sample, meshing generation and using CFD numerical calculation. Train neural networks through the database; thus the nonlinear relation between the blade parameter and pump performance parameters is built by applying the nonlinear fitting ability of BP neural networks. Regard the trained neural network as a fitness function of the genetic algorithm and use the characteristic of nonlinear global optimization of genetic algorithm to optimize the multiphase pump. Optimization result shows that the hydraulic efficiency of the multiphase pump is increased by 1.91%.

        Attenuation effects of perforated plates with heterogeneously distributed holes on combustion instability in a spray flame combustor

        Perforated plates have been widely used in combustors to attenuate harmful sounds. In this study, the acoustic absorption capability of plates with heterogeneously distributed holes under bias flow was evaluated in an impedance tube, and the sound attenuation effect of each plate located in the liquid fuel combustor inlet section was experimentally studied. The perforated plate with heterogeneously distributed large holes showed the best control effect under the designed experimental conditions. After control, the peak dynamic pressure in the chamber and plenum decreased by 90 % and 75 %, respectively, and the reduction in the heat release fluctuation was 60 %. When the primary air flow rate deviated from the optimal value, the plate with large holes still reduced the pressure amplitude in the chamber by approximately 70 %. It was also found that installing the perforated plate with a back cavity had the dual effect of gaining and damping combustion instability.

        Crystal Structures and Thermal Properties of Two Binuclear Cd(II) Supramolecular Complexes Based on Quinolinecarboxylate Ligand

        Two novel binuclear metal-organic coordination complexes $[Cd_2(L)_2(bpy)_2(H_2O)_2]{\cdot}6H_2O$ (1), $[Cd_2(L)_2(phen)_2-(H_2O)_2]{\cdot}2H_2O$ (2) (where L = 2-methylquinoline-3,4-dicarboxylate dianion, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal Xray diffraction, spectral method (IR), elemental analysis and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). Both 1 and 2 consist of two Cd(II) atoms bridged by two monoatomic bridging carboxylate groups from two L ligands, and the second carboxylate group of each L is monodentately coordinated to Cd(II), creating a sevenmembered chelating ring. The coordination at each metal nucleus is completed by a water molecule and a chelating bidentate molecule. The 3D structures of the complexes are stabilized by ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking interactions and hydrogen-bonds.

        Improved Contrast for Threshold Random-grid-based Visual Cryptography

        Pixel expansion and contrast are two major performance parameters for visual cryptography scheme (VCS), which is a type of secret image sharing. Random Grid (RG) is an alternative approach to solve the pixel expansion problem. Chen and Tsao proposed the first (k, n) RG-based VCS, and then Guo et al., Wu et al., Shyu, and Yan et al. significantly improved the contrast in recent years. However, the investigations on improving the contrast of threshold RG-based VCS are not sufficient. In this paper, we develop a contrast-improved algorithm for (k, n) RG-based VCS. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperformers the previous threshold algorithms with better visual quality and a higher accuracy of contrast.

        Triterpenoid Saponins from Elsholtzia bodinieri

        A new oleanane-type triterpenoid estersaponin, bodinierin C (1), along with two known saponins, mazusaponin I (2) and ciwujianoside C (3), were isolated from the water-soluble part of the root barks of Elsholtzia bodinieri. The structure of bodinierin C was characterized by spectroscopic means and chemical hydrolysis as 3β -Ocaffeoyl- 23-hydroxylechinocystic acid 28-O-α -L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β- D-glucopyranosyl ester. The known compounds were identified by comparing their spectral data with those of authentic samples or data reported in the literature. All compounds were firstly isolated from Elsholtzia bodinieri family.
