According to the comparative study on the IgA nephropathy and hematuria, the results were as follows. 1. IgA nephropathy seems to be caused by deposits of IgA antibodies in the kidney mesangial tissues. 2. The symptoms of IgA nephropathy are repetitive hematuria, secondarily asthenia, slight fever, the urination pain and the flank pain etc. 3. Steroids have a few effect on the incipient stage of IgA nephropathy, but the specific medicine isn't in existence at present. 4. In oriental medicine, hematuria defines the urine including blood or blood clot without pain in urination. 7. The causes of hematuria are cases of heat and asthenia of kidney(腎虛). 8. For the medical prescriptions are used Paljungsan(八正散), Dojo˘ksan(導赤散), Yo˘ngyopaedoksan(連翹敗毒散), Singihwan(腎氣丸), sogyeeumja(小계飮子), Daebuncho˘ngeum(大分淸飮), Dangguieum(當歸飮), Cho˘ngjangtang(淸腸湯), Silyungtang(柴영湯), Kamisagunjatang(加味四君子湯), Jwaguieum(左歸飮)
Rapid, large-scale generation of Ds transposant lines and analysis of the Ds insertion sites in rice

Rapid, large-scale generation of a Ds transposant population was achieved using a regeneration procedure involving tissue culture of seed-derived calli carrying Ac and inactive Ds elements. In the F_(2) progeny from genetic crosses between the same Ds and Ac starter lines, most of the crosses produced an independent germinal transposition frequency of 10-20%. Also, many Ds elements underwent immobilization even though Ac was expressed. By comparison, in a callus-derived regenerated population, over 70% of plants carried independent Ds insertions, indicating transposition early in callus formation. In the remaining population, the majority of plants carried only Ac. Most of the new Ds insertions were stably transmitted to a subsequent generation. An exceptionally high proportion of independent transposants in the regenerated population means that selection markers for transposed Ds and continual monitoring if Ac/Ds activities may not necessarily be required. By analyzing 1297 Ds-flanking DNA sequences, a genetic map of 1072 Ds insertion sites was developed. The map showed that Ds elements were transposed onto all of the rice chromosomes, with preference not only near donor sites (36%) but also on certain physically unlinked arms. Poulations from both genetic crossing and tissue culture showed the same distribution patterns of Ds insertion sites. The information of these mapped Ds insertion sites was deposited in GenBank. Among them, 55% of Ds elements were on predicted open-reading frame (ORF) regions. Thus, we propose an optimal strategy for the rapid generation of a large population of Ds transposants in rice.

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>To determine the benefit of surgical management in recurrent glioblastoma, we analyzed a series of patients with recurrent glioblastoma who had undergone surgery, and we devised a new scale to predict their survival.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Clinical data from 55 consecutive patients with recurrent glioblastoma were evaluated after surgical management. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression modeling were used to identify prognostic variables for the development of a predictive scale. After the multivariate analysis, performance status (<I>P</I> = .078) and ependymal involvement (<I>P</I> = .025) were selected for inclusion in the new prognostic scale. The devised scale was validated with a separate set of 96 patients from 3 different institutes.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>A 3-tier scale (scoring range, 0–2 points) composed of additive scores for the Karnofsky performance status (KPS) (0 for KPS ≥ 70 and 1 for KPS < 70) and ependymal involvement (0 for no enhancement and 1 for enhancement of the ventricle wall in the magnetic resonance imaging) significantly distinguished groups with good (0 points; median survival, 18.0 months), intermediate (1 point; median survival, 10.0 months), and poor prognoses (2 points; median survival, 4.0 months). The new scale was successfully applied to the validation cohort of patients showing distinct prognosis among the groups (median survivals of 11.0, 9.0, and 4.0 months for the 0-, 1-, and 2-point groups, respectively).</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>We developed a practical scale to facilitate deciding whether to proceed with surgical management in patients with recurrent glioblastoma. This scale was useful for the diagnosis of prognostic groups and can be used to develop guidelines for patient treatment.</P>

N/A Leptospirosis is an acute septicemic and systemic disease caused by any one of a large number of serotype of Leptospira interrogans. We report here 7 cases of Leptospirosis including 6 cases with acute respiratory failure in which 3 cases were complicated by ARDS. Leptospirosis, a typically biphasic illness, is known to show various clinical manifestations according to serotype and geographic area. In Korea, the most characteristic clinical finding is pulmonary manifestations such as dyspnea, and hemoptysis. Leptospirosis also revealed clinical course that begins as a nonspecific febrile illness and have a tendency to progress to severe respiratory distress. Even though occurrence of ARDS in Leptospirosis is rare, Leptospirosis may be added to the growing number of diseases causing ARDS.
국내산과 수입 호두(Juglans regia L.)의 영양성분 분석

본 연구에서 국내산 3품종과 수입 호두(중국산과 미국산)를 이용하여 5품종에 대한 유리당, 지방산, 무기질, 구성 아미노산, 비타민 E와 같은 영양성분 분석을 진행하였으며, 총 페놀성 화합물과 총 플라보노이드 함량을 함께 비교 · 확인하였다. 유리당 분석에서는 국내산 금곡 품종에서 glucose (10.58 mg/100 g) 함량이 가장 높았고 김천 1호 품종에서 maltose(34.20 mg/100 g)가 가장 높은 함량을 보여주었다. 지방산 함량은 모든 품종에서 linoleic acid(13.23~19.04g/100 g)와 oleic acid(6.85~9.79 g/100 g)가 높은 함량을 보였으며 미국산 호두가 가장 높은 총 지방산 함량을 보였지만 국내산 금곡 품종에서 가장 낮은 포화 지방산 함량과 가장 높은 다중 불포화 지방산 함량을 보였다. 무기질 분석에서는 나트륨(372.37~474.77 mg/100 g)과 황(334.02~417.02mg/100 g)의 함량이 다른 무기질들에 비해 유의적으로 높게 나타났고 칼륨, 인, 마그네슘(161.22~183.62, 124.37~137.35, 91.80~138.88 mg/100 g) 또한 비교적 높은 함량을 보였으며 품종 간의 편차는 크지 않았다. 주요 아미노산으로는 glutamic acid(96.52~118.37 mg/100 g), arginine(66.98~84.63 mg/100 g), aspartic acid(48.18~59.21 mg/100 g) 함량이 상대적으로 높았고, 국내산 중 비교적 우수한 김천 1호와 금곡 품종은 미국산 품종의 약 76% 정도로 나타났다. 비타민 E 분석에서는 γ-토코페롤이 주요 토코페롤로 나타났으며 미국산(73.01 μg/g)에서 가장 높은 함량을 보였고, 총 토코페롤 함량은 국내산 중 가장 우수한 김천 1호품종(78.16 μg/g)이 미국산 품종의 약 83%에 달하는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 총 페놀성 화합물 함량 측정에서 금곡품종 60% 에탄올 추출물(349.50 mg of GAE/g)이 유의적으로 가장 높은 함량을 보였으며, 총 플라보노이드 화합물 역시 금곡 60% 에탄올 추출물(86.92 mg of RE/g)이 상대적으로 우수한 정량적 수준을 나타냈다. 결국 본 연구에서는 국내산 호두와 주요 수입산 호두 품종 간의 영양성분 분석을 통해 국내에서 생산되는 호두를 수입 호두와 비교했을 때 영양학적으로 충분한 경쟁력을 가지고 있음을 판단할 수 있었다. 더불어 총 페놀 및 총 플라보노이드 분석에서 유의적으로 우수한 함량을 보였던 금곡 품종은 항산화 효과와 함께 이와 연계된 다양한 생리활성 효과를 나타낼 것으로 기대된다. This study was investigated to compare the nutritional composition of walnuts (Juglans regia L.) between domestic cultivars such as Gimcheon 1ho, Geumgok, and Geumreung as well as imported cultivars from China and the USA. In the free sugar analysis, glucose and maltose were detected. The highest glucose content was found in Geumgok. The highest maltose content was found in Gimcheon 1ho. Linoleic acid and oleic acid were detected as major fatty acids in all walnuts. Total fatty acid contents were the highest in the USA cultivar. However, the ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acid to total fatty acid of the Geumgok and USA cultivars were 54.73% and 49.35%, respectively. Further, α-linolenic acid was only detected in walnuts of the Geumgok and USA cultivars. As a result of the analysis of inorganic components, sodium, sulfur, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorous were detected as major components of walnuts. Major amino acids such as aspartic acid, glutamic acid, and arginine were detected in walnuts. γ-Tocopherol was detected as a major tocopherol in walnuts, and it constituted the highest contents in Gimcheon 1ho and USA in domestic and imported cultivars, respectively. Finally, 60% ethanolic extract of Geumgok had the highest total phenolic and total flavonoid contents. Therefore, these results suggest that domestic Korean cultivars of walnuts are nutritionally competitive when compared with imported walnuts and should be available as high value-added income crop.

This report provides a detailed description of the methodology for ophthalmic examinations according to the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) VII and VIII (from 2017 to 2021). The KNHANES is a nationwide survey which has been performed since 1998 in representatives of whole Korean population. During the KNHANES VII and VIII, in addition to the ophthalmic questionnaire, intraocular pressure measurement, visual field test, auto refractometry, axial length and optical coherence tomography measurements were included. This new survey will provide not only provide normative and pathologic ophthalmic data including intraocular pressure, refractive error, axial length, visual field and precise measurement of anterior segment, macula and optic nerve with optical coherence tomography, but also a more accurate diagnosis for major adult blindness diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other ocular diseases, for the national Korean population.

<P>A bacterial strain, designated HOR6-4<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from the epidermal tissue of a root of a <I>Phalaenopsis</I> orchid. Strain HOR6-4<SUP>T</SUP> was characterized using a polyphasic approach. The cells were aerobic, Gram-stain-positive, non-motile coccoids. Phylogenetic analysis of its 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed a clear affiliation with the family <I>Dermacoccaceae</I>. Strain HOR6-4<SUP>T</SUP> showed relatively low 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (below 95.9 %) to type strains of species with validly published names, showing the highest sequence similarities to the type strains of <I>Flexivirga alba</I> (95.8 %) and <I>Yimella lutea</I> (95.5 %). The DNA G+C content of strain HOR6-4<SUP>T</SUP> was 64.7 mol%. Strain HOR6-4<SUP>T</SUP> had anteiso-C<SUB>17 : 0</SUB> (19.3 %), 10-methyl C<SUB>18 : 0</SUB> (tuberculostearic acid; 13.5 %) and 10-methyl C<SUB>17 : 0</SUB> (11.7 %) as the major fatty acids and contained MK-8(H<SUB>4</SUB>) and MK-8(H<SUB>6</SUB>) as the predominant quinones. Polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, three aminophospholipids, two phospholipids and an aminolipid. The peptidoglycan type was A4α, with an <SMALL>l</SMALL>-Lys–<SMALL>l</SMALL>-Thr–<SMALL>d</SMALL>-Glu interpeptide bridge with a glycine residue bound to the alpha-carboxyl group of <SMALL>d</SMALL>-Glu in position 2 of the peptide subunit. Mycolic acids were not present. On the basis of comparative analysis of phenotypic and phylogenetic traits, strain HOR6-4<SUP>T</SUP> is considered to represent a novel species in a new genus in the family <I>Dermacoccaceae</I>, for which the name <I>Rudaeicoccus suwonensis</I> gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of <I>Rudaeicoccus suwonensis</I> is HOR6-4<SUP>T</SUP> ( = KACC 12637<SUP>T</SUP> = DSM 19560<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>
