        The Characteristic Self-assembly of Gold Nanoparticles over Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) Substrate

        Ordered array of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) over ITO glass was investigated in terms of ITO pretreatment,particle size, and diamines with different chain length. Owing to the indium-tin-oxide (ITO) layer coated on the glass, the substrate surface has a limited number of hydroxyl groups which can produce functionalized amine groups for Au binding, which resulted in the loosely-packed array of Au NPs on the ITO surface. Diamine ligand as a molecular linker was introduced to enhance the lateral binding of adjacent Au NPs immobilized on the amine-functionalized ITO glass, consequently leading to the densely-packed array of Au NPs over the ITO substrate. The molecular bridging effect was strengthened with the increase of chain length of diamines: C-12> C-8. The packing density of small Au NPs (< 40 nm) was significantly increased with the increase of C-8diamine, but large Au NPs (> 60 nm) did not produce densely-packed array on the ITO glass even for the dosage of C-12 diamine.

        The characteristics of lysine-mediated self-assembly of gold nanoparticles on the ITO glass

        In this study, lysine was investigated as a cross-linker to induce the self-assembly of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) with the variation of solution pH, dosage amounts of lysine, and GNP size. Lysine molecules at acidic pH ranges induced the aggregation of Au colloids via a, 3-amine mediated self-assembly of GNPs,consequently leading to the generation of secondary peak at longer wavelength for aggregated GNPs. At intermediate and basic pH ranges, however, the ionization of carboxylic acid groups in lysine hindered the cross-linking between Au colloids with the consequent disappearance of secondary peak. For the array of small Au colloids (ca. 43 nm), lysine induced heavily-aggregated GNPs on the ITO glass at strongly acidic condition (pH2w3) through its molecular bridging effect. For the array of large Au colloids (ca.70 nm), lysine produced one-dimensional assembly of GNPs on the ITO glass at slightly acidic condition (at pH4.7) through zwitterions-mediated interactions.

        Background: Serum uric acid is strongly associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and insulin resistance in patients. However, whether this association is causally or coincidentally with NAFLD and insulin resistance remains uncertain, neither the mechanisms behind this association are unclear so far. Methods: We first analyzed the impact of uric acid on development of hepatic steatosis in mice and two cell models (HepG2 and HL7702), and then explored the effect of uric acid on insulin signaling, including phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) and Akt in HepG2 and HL7702 cells. Further, we studied the role of NLRP3 inflammasome in regulation of hepatic steatosis and insulin signaling. Results: Uric acid directly induced hepatocyte fat accumulation both in vivo and in vitro. Further, uric acid treatment decreased insulin-induced phospho-Akt (ser437) and enhanced the phospho-IRS1(ser307) in HepG2 and HL7702 cells. Then, we found significant increases of NLRP3 inflammasome-related molecules, both mRNA and protein levels, including NLPR3, caspase-1, IL-1ß, and IL-18, in HepG2 and HL7702 cells stimulated with uric acid. We also found that uric acid induced significant elevations of IL-1ß and IL-18 levels in culture supernatants of HepG2 and HL7702 cells. Consistent with in vitro results, mice fed 8 weeks of hyperuricemia-inducing diet resulted in significant up-regulation of hepatic mRNA and protein expressions of NLPR3, caspase-1, IL-1ß and IL-18, and elevation of serum IL-1ß and IL-18 levels. Further experiments indicated that silencing NLRP3 expression significantly alleviated uric acid-induced fat accumulation in vitro. Moreover, inhibition of NLRP3 expression ameliorated uric acid induced insulin signaling impairing, confirmed by increased insulin- induced phospho-Akt (ser437) and reduced the phospho-IRS1(ser307) in vitro. Conclusions: Our results suggest that uric acid contributes to hepatic steatosis and impairs insulin signaling through the NLRP3 inflammasome dependent mechanism.

      • Modification of a Smoking Motivation Questionnaire for Chinese Medical Students

        Introduction: Smoking prevalence among the medical students is high in China. Therefore, understanding the smoking motivations of medical students is crucial for smoking control, but currently there are no scales questionnaires customized for probing the smoking motivations of medical students. This aim of study was to test and modify a questionnaire for investigating smoking motivations among medical students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1,125 medical students at Xuzhou Medical College in China in 2012.The model fit and validity was assessed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the reliability was tested by single-item reliability, composite reliability, and item-total correlation. Results: The prevalence of smoking was 9.84 % among study population. In the modified scales, the global fit indices identified a CFI value of 0.96, TLI was 0.96, and the RMSEA was 0.063. CFA supported the two dimensional structure of the instrument. The average variance extracted ranged from 0.45 to 0.62. All single-item reliability scores were greater than 0.20, and the composite reliability ranged from 0.74 to 0.91. Conclusion: Modified scales could be the preliminary instrument used in evaluating the smoking motivations of medical students. However, it should be further assessed using other forms and methods of validity and reliability, additional motivations of smoking, and the survey of other medical colleges in China.

        Red Bean Extract Inhibits Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Inflammation and H2O2-Induced Oxidative Stress in RAW 264.7 Macrophages

        Red bean (Phaseolus radiatus L. var. Aurea) is a leguminous seed and mainly used as one of the popular ingredients in oriental desserts. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of 50 g/kg ethanolic extract of red bean (RBE) by measuring lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced expressions of nitric oxide (NO), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in RAW 264.7 macrophages. On the other hand, the antioxidant activity of RBE was determined by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances method and comet assay using H2O2-induced macrophages. The results showed that RBE at the concentrations of 50–200 μg/mL can significantly suppress the inflammatory responses in LPS-stimulated macrophages through the reduction of cellular NO and downregulation of the gene expressions of iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α, and IL-6 in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, RBE can diminish H2O2-induced oxidative damage in RAW 264.7 macrophage. Phenolic compounds and cyanidin-3-Oglucoside from BRE may have efficacy as overall in vitro anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents. Red bean exerts an antiinflammatory response and has potential as a health-promoting ingredient.

        17세기 한중 실학자의 교육개혁안 비교연구 -유형원과 황종희를 중심으로

        본 논문은 17세기 한중양국의 유명한 사상가 유형원(柳馨遠)과 황종희(黃宗羲) 각각의 대표작인 『반계수록(磻溪隨錄)』과 『명이대방록(明夷待訪錄)』을 중심으로 두 사람이 구상한 교육개혁방안을 비교하여 17세기 동아시아 국제정세 격동기에 한중양국 사상활동의 특징을 밝히려고 시도한다. 논문은 우선 유형원과 황종희 각각의 생애, 저서활동, 그리고 『반계수록』과 『명이대방록』의 내용을 정리하기를 통해 두 사람은 살았던 역사적인 환경은 두사람의 개혁사상에 미치는 영향과 그들이 구상하는 이상 사회의 모습을 설명하려고 한다. 다음 필자가 교육제도개혁과 인재선발제도 두 측면에 초점을 맞춰『반계수록』과 『명이대방록』에서 각각 그리는 교육개혁방안을 분류하고 정리한 다음에 두 사람의 교육개혁방안에 대한 비교를 통해 그들의 교육개혁의 비슷함과 차이점을 논술한다. 유형원의 교육개혁의 핵심은 인재의 덕행을 중요시하는것은 중심으로 두어 체계화된 교육체제와 인재선발제도를 구축하는 것과 달리, 황종희의 교육개혁의 핵심은 학교의 정치에 참여하여 정무를 논의하는 기능을 강화시키고, 관진엄출(寬進嚴出)의 인재선발제도를 채택하여 군주전제를 제어하려는 것이다. 마지막으로 상술한 정리와 분석을 통해 결론을 내린다. 유형원과 황종희는 같은 시기(조선왕조의 중후기와 명청교체기)에 다른 나라에서 살았지만, 두 사람은 다 유가경전에 직접 회귀하는 것으로 당시 형이상학적인 주자학의 속박에서 벗어나려고 시도하였다. 그들은 경세치용(經世致用)의 시각으로 각각의 나라가 품고 있는 문제점들을 살피며 각자의 개혁방안을 제기하였다. Based on the Bangye-Surok(磻溪隨錄) and Ming-yi Dai-fang Lu(明夷待訪錄), written by Yu Hyeong-won(柳馨遠, 1622~1673) and Huang tsung-hsi(黃宗羲, 1610~1695) the two prominent thinkers in South Korea and China in the 17<sup>th</sup> century, This study tries to reveal the characteristics of South Korea and China`s ideological activities in a period of the historical structure`s upheaval in East Asia, by comparing the education reform plans conceived by the two people. This study, first, tries to explain the influence of the historical environment they lived in on the two people`s reform thoughts, and the features of the ideal society they envisaged, by arranging their career, writing activities and the content of the Bangye-Surok and Ming-yi Dai-fang Lu, severally. And then this study sorts out the education reform plans delineated in the Bangye- Surok and Ming-yi Dai-fang Lu from the fellow two aspects, which is the reform of the educational system and the selection system of talented people. By comparing their education reform plans, this study discusses the similarities and differences of the two people`s education reform, and points out that the core of Yu Hyeong-won`s education reform is to constructing systematic education system and selection system by emphasizing the importance of talents` moral conduct, but Huang tsung-hsi wanted to achieve the purpose of limiting the autocratic monarchy through strengthening the function of the schools` political participation and adopting the “easy in and strict out” selection system. Finally, the conclusion is drawn through the above analysis. Although Yu Hyeong-won and Huang tsung-hsi were the prominent thinkers who lived in different countries in the same period, but they both tried to directly return to Confucian classics(儒敎經典), and slip the leash of the metaphysical Zhuzi`s Theory(朱子學). With the statecraft viewpoint to re-analyze the problems which their countries suffered, they brought forward their own reform plans.

        The Effect of Previous Work Experiences on Hospitality Undergraduate Students` Future Career Intention

        본 연구의 목적은 이전의 업무 경험이 학생들의 직업 의도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 알아보고자 하는 것이었다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 환대 산업 분야에서 4주 이상의 업무 경험을 해 본 환대 산업 전공 3, 4학년생 241명의 응답을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 이전의 업무 경험에서 느낀 개인-직무 적합도가 직무 몰입과 내재적 및 외재적 직무 만족을 통해 학생들의 환대 산업 분야에 대한 진출(취업) 의도에 유의한 긍정적 영향을 주는 것이 확인되었다. 따라서 기업과 대학은 학생들이 자신에게 맞는 진로를 조기에 발견하여 그에 맞는 준비를 할 수 있도록 다양한 업무 경험 프로그램을 상호 협력을 통해 제공해줄 필요가 있다. 이를 통해 기업은 직무에 적합하여 직무에 몰입도가 높은, 그리하여 직무를 수행함에 있어 내재적/외재적 만족도가 높은 인재를 선발할 수 있는 기회를 넓힐 수 있을 것이다. This study aimed to discover how the better perceived previous work experience affect student career intention. To achieve this objective, a survey with self-administered questionnaire was conducted of hospitality undergraduate juniors and seniors. An analysis of the responses of 241 students revealed that students’ person-job fit, work engagement, and intrinsic/extrinsic job satisfaction perceived during their previous jobs promoted their’ future career intention to join the hospitality industry. Therefore, it is advisable that the industry practitioners and educators cooperate to arrange various job-experience programs so that participating students can find the right career earlier. By doing so, businesses can also be benefited in that they can have better chances to recruit right people for their businesses.

        A Highly Efficient Aeroelastic Optimization Method Based on a Surrogate Model

        This paper presents a highly efficient aeroelastic optimization method based on a surrogate model; the model is verified by considering the case of a high-aspect-ratio composite wing. Optimization frameworks using the Kriging model and genetic algorithm (GA), the Kriging model and improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO), and the back propagation neural network model (BP) and IPSO are presented. The feasibility of the method is verified, as the model can improve the optimization efficiency while also satisfying the engineering requirements. Moreover, the effects of the number of design variables and number of constraints on the optimization efficiency and objective function are analysed in detail. The accuracy of two surrogate models in aeroelastic optimization is also compared. The Kriging model is constructed more conveniently, and its predictive accuracy of the aeroelastic responses also satisfies the engineering requirements. According to the case of a high-aspect-ratio composite wing, the GA is better at global optimization.
