      • A new species of the genus Cybaeus L. Koch, 1868(Araneae : Cybaeidae) from Korea

        굴뚝거미속(Cybaeus)의 新種을 記載한다. 굴뚝거미속은 굴뚝거미科(Cybaeidae)에 속하는 거미로써 우리나라에서는 지금까지 5種이 報告되어 왔으나 이 新種의 추가로 다음 6種이 된다. In the present paper, the authors describe one new species of the family Cybaeidae from Korea, named Cybaeus cappa sp. nov. This specimen is deposited at the Joo-Pil Spider Museum, Namyangju-Si, Kyunggi-Do.

        A two-dimensional finite element model for polarization switching in ferroelectric materials developed by Kim and Jiang<SUP>(1)</SUP> and Sang-Joo Kim<SUP>(2)</SUP> is used to predict the formation of domains in a ferroelectric thin film. Initially the ferroelectric film is poled upward and the bottom electrode is grounded. A strong downward de field is imposed on a point of the top surface of the film. A region of switched domains with downward polarization is nucleated and is grown with time. It is found that initially the shape of the nucleated domains is that of a bulgy dagger, but later it turns into the shape of a reversed cup with the lower part wider than the upper part. It can also be concluded that the size of nucleated domains increases with the period of applied electric potential. The present results are qualitatively consistent with experimental observations.

        감염된 가축과의 직접 접촉 없이 발생한 브루셀라증 환자1례와 축산 부산물 시장에서의 역학조사 : Sero-epidemiology Study on Market, by-product, Stock-raising

        브루셀라증은 전 세계적으로 발생하는 인수공통 전염병중에 하나로서, 본 증례는 국내에서 감염된 가축에 대한 노출력이 없는 집단에서 현증 브루셀라증이 발생한 첫 증례이기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고한다. 또한 환자가 근무하였던 축산물 부산물 시장에서 역학 조사를 실시하여, 현증환자 및 기감염자를 발견하여 축산물 부산물 시장 근무자에서 현증 브루셀라증이 발생할 위험성을 평가하였다. 역학 조사 결과 축산물 부산물을 다루는 일을 하는 사람들에서 감염된 가축과의 직접 접촉이 없이도 브루셀라증이 발생할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. Brucellosis is a world-wide zoonotic disease. We report the first case of brucellosis in South Korea that is not related to direct contract with intected cattles. The patient had been working in the market of by-product, stock raising for twenty years and complained of 1-month history of fever, chill, and intermittent epistaxis. We confirmed brucellosis by anti-brucella antibody test and PCR. After 6 weeks' treatment with rifampicin and doxycycline, fever and chilling subsided, and, generalized weakness and oral intake improved. We performed seroepidemiology study against workers who were working in the same market as the patient. However, we couldn't find out other cases with seropositivity. We concluded that although the workers of by-product market have a risk of getting brucellosis, the risk is low.

        H9c2 심근 세포주에서 외인성 nitric oxide가 허혈에 의한 세포 독성에 미치는 영향

        Background: Nitric oxide(NO) is known to have protective effects on an ischemic heart and to exert triggering effects on ischemic preconditioning. However, the effects of NO during the ischemic period have not been investigated. To investigate the role of exogenous nitric oxide in a model of ischemic heart cell death, we studied the effects of ischemic preconditioning and ischemia in a normal and an ischemic buffer. Methods: Rat cardiac myoblast cells(H9c2) were cultured in a normal and an ischemic buffered medium. For the ischemic culture of heart cells, the cells were cultured in a dessicator with GasPak for 5 hrs. In ischemic preconditioning, the cells were pretreated with ischemic buffer for 5 min and then perfused with normal medium for 30 min. For the measurement of the cytotoxicity, a MTT(3-4-Sdimethylthiazol-2-yl-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay was performed. A DAPI(4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole dihydrochloride) staining procedure and a flow cytometry analysis were performed to confirm apoptotic cell death by ischemia. Results: Cell viability, as determined by using a MTT assay, showed that the preconditioned group treated with NO showed more cell death than with the not-preconditioned groups in both normal and ischemic buffers. But, In normal medium and not-preconditioned groups, NO showed protective effect according to the concentrations(100,1000μM) . No treatment with NO produced the different results. In normal medium, the protective effect of ischemic preconditioning was demonstrated, but no protective effect of ischemic preconditioning could be seen in the case of the ischemic buffer. The DAPI staining and flow cytometry analysis of heart cells showed characteristic apoptotic features. Conclusion: NO added in the ischemic phase had deterious effects on heart cells. Ischemic preconditioning was more harmful than ischemia alone. The toxicity of the cells was characteristic apoptosis.

        2017년 7월 4일부터 6일까지 경상남도 거제시 거제도 일대를 김주필, 김대희, 지승환, 지성현, 최라미, 이영경 등 한국거미연구소 회원들이 주야로 채집한 결과, 총 23과 56속 75종이 조사 연구되어 이에 발표하는 바이다. 채집한 표본은 주필거미박물관에 보관하였다. From July 4 to 6 in 2017. Joo-Pil Kim, Dae-Hee Kim, Seung-Hwan Ji, Sung-Hyun Ji, Ra-Mi Choi, Yeong-Gyeong Lee, the members of The Arachnological Institute of Korea investigated the spiders in the whole area of Geoje city, Geoje-do, Gyeongsangnam-do and report 23 Family 56 Genus 75 Species of spiders. The collected spiders are placed (stored) in the Joo-Pil Spider museum.

      • 상부소화관출혈에 있어서 내시경적 분말약제산포의 효과

        Background : Bleeding after endoscopic procedure of the stomach carries an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. In case of oozing hemorrhage, not in active hemorrhage, powdered sodium alginate may play a role in control of bleeding with convenience. Therefore, we evaluated the clinical effect and efficacy of sodium alginate powder in upper G-Ⅰ bleeding. Methods : Forty-five patients who had upper G-Ⅰ bleeding after endoscopic procedure were enrolled in this study. Twenty-five patients of them were managed by the application of powder preparation of Sodium alginate(ALTO). The others were observed without treatment. The next day, we performed endoscopy in all patients to ascertain the hemostasis. Results : Of 25 patients managed with Sodium alginate, only two patients(8%) had bleeding (hemostatic rate : 92%), On the other hand, of 20 patients who did not receive any treatment, 3 patient(15%) had bleeding (hemostatic rate : 85%). There was no statistical difference between the two groups(p>0.05). Using other endoscopic procedure, We successfully treated the patient who continued to bleed. Conclusion : We evaluated the effect of the spary of sodium alginate on oozing hemorrhage. Although there was no statistical significance in our study, it seems that the spray of sodium alginate may be a useful method for the prevention of bleeding after endoscopic procedure.

      • 슬러지 재자원화에 관한 연구

        이 연구는 1993년도에 우리나라의 연간 슬러지발생량이 약 3500만m³에 이르고 있으며, 이들 대부분이 매립되고 있다. 그러나 매립부지의 확보가 점점 어려워 지고 있으며 아울러 매립처분비용도 상승하고 있기 때문에 oil화, 퇴비화등으로 재자원화 하는 방법과 소각후의 소각회를 유효이용하는 방법 등이 연구 개발되고 실용화되고 있다. 슬러지의 oil화는 현재 연구단계에 있으나 앞으로 슬러지의 유효이용기술로서, 가장 좋은 방법이 되리라 기대되고 있다. 그러나 소각후의 소각회의 이용방법은 현재 일본등에서는 실용화 되어 건설자재 등으로 다양하게 이용하고 있다. 우리나라에서도 서울시 등을 비롯한 대도시에서는 하수처리장에서 발생하는 슬러지를 소각한 후에 소각회를 건설 자제용으로서 지자체의 공사에는 반드시 사용하도록 하는 제도를 만든다면 유효이용방법으로 충분한 타당성이 있을 것이다. 이때 소각방법으로는 용융소각방법이 보다 효과적일 것이다. With increasing sewage and wastewater sludge, it has become difficult to dispose the sludge by landfilling and ocean dumping. To solve this problem, efforts have been made to delelop sewage and wastewater sludge utilization technologies in many advanced countries. Some technologies have already been developed; conversion of sludge to compost and fuel, producing artificial light-weight aggregate from ashes. This paper describes the technical status of sludge utilization technologies.

        A Multi-Center Educational Research Regarding Breastfeeding for Pediatrics Residents in Korea

        Purpose: Pediatricians have a significant responsibility to educate mothers about the importance of breastfeeding. However, there have been minimal efforts in the courses of resident training in Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the change in knowledge and attitude before and after a 4-week breastfeeding educational intervention among multicenter residents. Methods: Prospective interventional educational research was designed for residents at eight training hospitals in Korea. Institutional reviews were obtained in each hospital. The education curriculum consisted of 14 courses regarding breastfeeding theory and practice. These materials were used to teach pediatric residents for 4 weeks. Knowledge-based tests were administered before the course, and re-tests were administered after the course using different test items of similar levels. Test scores and survey responses were compared before and after the intervention. Results: A total of 73 residents (1st year 20, 2nd year 23, 3rd year 16, and 4th year residents 14) from eight training hospitals completed the intervention. Their average age was 30.3±2.9 years, 17 (23.3%) were male, 22 (30.1%) were married, and eight had more than one child of their own. The mean pre-test score was 61.8±13.4 and the mean post-test score was 78.3±7.5 (P<0.001). The inter-grade difference in the score was significant in the pre-test (P=0.005), but not significant in the post-test (P=0.155). There were more responses of obtaining confidence after the intervention (P<0.001). Conclusion: In our study, pediatric residents showed improvement in their knowledge and confidence level after 4 weeks of the breastfeeding curriculum.
