        The β₃-adrenergic receptor is expressed in visceral adipose tissue in humans and is thought to contribute to the regulation of the resting metabolic rate and lipolysis. We studied the influence of a mutation in the β₃ -adrenergic receptor gene(Trp64Arg) on body fat distribution, central obesity, lipid metabolism in 65 healthy young male adults. One out of 65 subjects were homozygous (Arg/Arg) for the trp64Arg mutation, 17 subjects were heterozygous (Trp/Arg), and 47 lacked the mutation(Trp/Trp). The body weight, height, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio were similar between the subjects with- and without the mutation. Total body fat, abdominal fat amount, body fat distribution, serum total- and HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, and insulin concentrations were also not different according to the presence or absence of the mutation. These results suggested that Trp64Arg mutation in β₃-adrenergic receptor gene is not a major contributing factor for central obesity or change in lipid metabolism in Korean young adults.

        Seasonal phenology and damage by Singapora shinshana (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) and other leafhoppers on ornamental trees in Korea

        Singapora shinshana is a leafhopper native to mid-Asia with a specific host range and is one of the least studied species within the genus. Recently, the species has been found to cause significant damage to host plants including ornamental trees, normally inflicted by its sucking behavior. This study uncovered more details on host and season preference of S. shinshana, damage potential and symptoms caused by its feeding behavior on ornamental trees in Korea, in addition to other records of other leafhoppers of economic importance. During the sticky trap survey period from 2017 to 2019, 12 leafhopper species were recovered from the eight selected ornamental tree species. Singapora shinshana was the most dominant species, constituting 94.8% of the total collected leafhopper population; with its highest incidence observed on Prunus serrulata, followed by Elaeagnus umbellata and Pseudocydonia sinensis. The high abundance on P. serrulata correlated with high damaged leaf percentages of 94.2%, 95.2%, and 98.1% in October 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively. Interestingly, in terms of damaged leaf percentage, Rosa hybrida and Zelkova serrata were the second and third most damaged hosts despite the significantly lower population of the leafhopper on these trees. Furthermore, S. shinshana counts increased from late-July to late-September, with the peak evident during early August. Prunus serrulata can therefore be taken as one of the main host plants of S. shinshana. However, the potential of the host to suffer damage is not limited to population densities of the pest alone but also susceptibility and tolerance of the host plant.

        Pancreatic pseudocysts usually develop as a complication of acute pancreatitis or repeated attacks of chronic pancreatitis. Pseudocysts may also develop as a result of traumatic injuries or neoplasms. An uncommon complication is massive hemorrhage inside the pancreatic pseudocyst. The exact mechanism of hemorrhage is unknown. Enzymatic digestion, pressure erosion from the cyst mass or a combination of these processes may play an important role. Gastrointestinal hemorrhage associated with a pancreatic pseudocyst can occur in 10 percent of cases. When hemorrhage occurs because of erosion into a blood vessel involved in the pseudocyst, surgery is indicated since the episodes of hemorrhage are often severe and may even be fatal. When there is colonic involvement, various complications may occur. The most dangerous one is spontaneous rupture into the colon, which requires immediate surgical treatment because of high incidence of fulminating sepsis or massive hemorrhage. We examined a sixty eight-year-old man complaining of hematochezia and dizziness, and reported that it was a case of massive lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage caused by pseudocyst of the pancreas ruptured into the colon associated with chronic pancreatitis. On operative findings, the peripancreatic fatty tissue had severe adhesions to transverse colon and tail portion of pancreas, where the pseudocyst had formed. A distal pancreatectomy, splenectomy and resection of transverse colon were performed. By microscopic examination, hemorrhagic necrosis and inflammatory change were observed in the pancreas specimen. The tail portion of pancreas had a 6×6 cm sized cystic mass and was proven to be a pseudocyst with no epithelial lining.

        초소형 전기장치에 의한 미세 전류가 치아이동에 미치는 효과

        교정치료 본질인 치아이동을 보다 효과적으로 하기 위한 기계적 힘외의 다른 자극원으로서 전기적 자극에 대한 효용성이 부각되고 있다. 본 연구는 임상에서 초소형 전기장치에 의한 전기 자극이 교정적 치아이동에 미치는 효과를 실증하기 위해 시행되었다. 교정용 미니 스크류를 식립한 성인 여성 교정 환자 7명의 상악 견치 후방 견인 시 실험측에 150 gm의 기계적 교정력 외에 20μA의 직류 전류를 공급하는 초소형 전기 장치를 고안, 제작, 장착하여 견치의 근원심에 1일 5시간씩 4주간 전류 자극을 흘리고, 대조측에는 기계적 자극만을 가한 후, 매 주간 치아 이동량을 측정하여 치아이동에 있어서 전기자극의 효과를 검증하였다. 실험기간 동안 치아이동률에 있어서 실험군에서 대조군에 비해 1, 2째주에서 33%, 3, 4째주에서 21.4% 증가된 치아이동을 보였다. 실험군의 평균 치아 이동량은 1, 2째주가 3, 4째주에 비하여 컸으며, 그 차이는 각각 47%, 24% 증가된 치아 이동량을 보였다. 실험을 통하여 미세 전류가 적용되어 치아이동을 촉진할 수 있다는 것이 임상적으로 실증되었다. 생물학적으로 최적의 치아이동을 계획하여 치료계획을 단축시킬 수 있는 방법은 기계적 교정력과 전기자극을 동시에 가하는 것이라고 제안한다. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether an exogenous electric current to the alveolar bone surrounding a tooth being orthodontically treated can enhance tooth movement in human and to verify the effect of electric currents on tooth movement in a clinical aspect. Methods: This study was performed on 7 female orthodontic patients. The electric appliance was set in the maxilla to provide a direct electric current of 20μA. The maxillary canine on one side was assigned as the experimental side, and the other as control. The experimental canine was provided with orthodontic force and electric current. The control side was given orthodontic force only. Electrical current was applied to experimental canines for 5 hours a day. The amount of canine movement was measured with an electronic caliper every week. Results: The amount of orthodontic tooth movement in the experimental side during 4 weeks was greater by 30% compared to that of the control side. The amount of increase in tooth movement in the experimental side was statistically significant. The amount of tooth movement in the experimental side during the first two weeks was greater than that in the following two weeks. The amount of weekly tooth movement in the control side was decreased gradually. Conclusions: These results suggested that the exogenous electric current from the miniature electric device might accelerate orthodontic tooth movement by one third and have the potential to reduce orthodontic treatment duration.

        The purpose of this study is to veil the formative process of 'Hoi-shim Gok' which is one of the Buddhist Gasa, an old form of Buddhist Korean verse. 'Hoi-shim Gok' has used together with 'Hoi-shim Ga', But these are different. It seems that 'Hoi-shim Gok' was recreated as a 'Hwa-cheong' of temple from 'In-kua mun' to adapt to the social changes in 19th century. The procedure of 'Hwa-cheong' is 1) the purpose and cause of a Buddhist rite, 2) an easyand peaceful death, 3) admonish of a dead one and a live one at a time (vanity of life), 4) admonish of a live person (retribution in the life beyond.) 'Hoi-shim Gok' comes under 3) and 4). 'Hoi-shim Gok' had been made as the parts 3) and 4) were consolidated owing to the social requirements. First, in the aspect the form of discription, the 'In-kua mun' of 'life-age-sickness-death- Judgement in the beyond worle' succeeded to 'Hoi-shim Gok' as it was. It is the structure of 'Hoi-shim Gok' that 'filial piety' and 'belief of ten king' are added to this 'In-kua mun'. Second, the author of 'Hoi-shim Gok' is not a mendicant but a learned priest related to the consolidation of Buddhism in 19th century. There are no special diffences in various different version of 'Hoi-shim Gok'. Instead there are some differences in the buddihist invocation related to 'Hoi-shim Gok'. Therefore, the varietyof 'Hoi-shim Gok' has its origin in the various changes of the buddhist invocation. The original form of 'Hoi-shim Gok' has changed rarely, so we can regard it as a standard form. Third, the focus of 'Hoi-shim Gok' is the relationship with the idea of 'retribution' rather than 'filial piety'. 'Hoi-shim Gok' was diveloped in the interrelation to Buddhist scriptures, invocations, and descriptions. By taking these conditions into consideration, we can regard 'Hoi-shim Gok' as a succeededand developed form of 'In-kua mun' according to the prosperity of popular Buddhism in 19th century. Through these processes, 'Hoi-shim Gok' became a Buddhist literature which is developed by accepting popular ideas on the base of Buddhism. It has handed down to our time as a representative Buddhist poetry form.

      • 흰쥐의 DMBA 와 tobacco tar도포및 악하선절제시 설암의 유인성에 관한 실험적 연구

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of excisional wounding, tobacco tar, and removal of submandibular gland on the carcinogenesis induced by DMBA application of the tongue in Sprague-Dawley rats. Seventy-seven rats were divided into experimental group and control group(group 6), and experimental group is subdivided into five group. In group 1, the lateral border of middle third of the tongue was painted 3 times weekly with DMBA. In group 2, the same portion as above was painted with DMBA and proceeded one time weekly by excised with scissor. In group 3, the same portion as above was painted with DMBA and tar. In group 4, the same portion as above was painted with DMBA and tar, and proceeded excisional wounding in the lateral border of tongue. In group 5, the same portion as above was painted with DMBA and tar, and proceeded excisional wounding in the lateral border of tongue after removal of submandibular gland. In group 6, none was treated. At each 5,10,13,16 and 20 weeks after experiment, 2 animals in the each group 1,2,3,4, and 5, and 2 animals in the group 6 were sacrificed with ether, and then formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections were stained as H-E staining rountinely, Masson's trichrome staining for collagen fibers, and PAS staining for glycogen. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. In group 1,hyperkeratosis and hyperplasia at 5-10 weeks, and epithelial dysplasia at 16-weeks, carcinoma in situ at 20 weeks were observed, and in group 2 carcinogenesis was progressed more repidly than that of group 1 or group 3. 2. In group 4, carcinogenesis was progressed more repidly than that of group 2. In group 5, carcinoma in situ at 10-13 weeks, highly differentiated squarnous cell carcinoma at 16 weeks, and well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma at 20 weeks were onserved. 3. The chronic inflammatory response in the underlying connective tissue were observed and minor salivary glands were changed into pleomorphic or cystic degeneration, and in some portion, neuromatous proliferation was observed. 4. In group 4, carcinogenesis was observed predominantly in the lateral border of the tongue and faintly in entire mucosa of the tongue in some animals. In experimental chemical carcinogenesis of tongue in rats, we could find that excisional wounding accelerated the process of carinogenesis, and more rapidly progressed under the condition of xerostomia by proceeding application of DMBA and tar after sialadenectomy.

        Methanol extracts of 30 different plants collected in Jeju Island were tested for α-glucosidase inhibition. When the final concentration of extracts was 0.2㎎/㎖ for each sample, Ardisia japornica Blume. showed 91%, 92% and 87% of inhibition for maltase, sucrase, and nonspecific α-glucosidase activity, respectively. Potentilla chinensis inhibited maltase and sucrase activities for 90% and 82%, respectively. Euphorbia helioscopia exerted 90% and 88% inhibition for maltase and nonspecific α-glucosidase activity, respectively.

        This programme consisted of 8 menus, which are basic information, job worksheet, technique information, management analysis, file management, window management, help and conclusion. The major functions of this programme by menus classified as follows : 1. The basic information menu, which consisted of a lots of basic farm management information, can be easily accessible to get general farm status of S/W users and inputted data used as basic data for farm management analysis. 2. In worksheet menu, users can easily access to record and search of farm work planning, contents of work, agricultural materials and selling status. 3. In management achievement menu, lots of indexes which represent one years' management achievements are produced and can be compare this years' achievements with last years' ones. This programme Delphi5 and Object pascal programme were used for tools and languages. Also Paradox4 and BDE were used for DB and DB engine respectively.

      • 적응 등화기에서 데이터-재사용 LMS 알고리즘을 이용한 신호 간섭 제어

        적응 등화기에서 LMS 알고리즘의 수렴 속도를 개선하기 위한 데이터 재순환 버퍼 구조를 제안한다. 폐기된 수신 데이터를 재활용함으로서 심볼 시간 주기에 적응 등화기의 에러를 이용한 가중치 갱신을 통해 제안된 알고리즘의 수렴특성을 분석하여 수렴 속도가 향상됨을 보인다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 스텝-크기 매개변수 μ가 증가됨에 따라 알고리즘의 수렴 속도가 상응하게 감소하고 또한, 스텝 크기 매개변수 μ의 증가는 실험적으로 계산된 학습 곡선에서 평균 자승 에러를 감소시키는 효과를 갖는다. 고유치 확산을 감소시킴에 따라 적응 등화기의 수렴속도를 천천히 감소시키고 평균 자승 에러의 안정-상태 값을 증가시키는 효과를 나타낸다. 따라서, 제안된 데이터 재순환 버퍼를 이용한 LMS 알고리즘의 수렴 특성을 개선시키고 계산의 복잡도를 증가시키지 않으면서 수렴속도를 (B+1)배만큼 증가시킨다는 것을 보인다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과는 최악의 스텝 크기 매개변수와 고유치 확산 영역에 따른 평균 자승 에러를 분석하고 필터 알고리즘에서 신호간섭제어가 우수함을 입증한다. Data-recycling buffer structure to improve the convergence speed of LMS algorithm in adaptive equalizer is proposed. The improvement of convergence speed is shown by analyzing convergence characteristics of the proposed algorithm through updating weight using the error of adaptive equalizer when coefficients are multiply adapted in a symbol time period. As the step-size parameter μ is increased, the rate of convergence of the algorithm is correspondingly decreased through computer simulation result. Also, increasing the step-size parameter μ has the effect of reducing the variation in the experimentally computed learning curve. Reducing the eigenvalue spread has the effect of slowing down the rate of convergence of the adaptive equalizer and also increasing the steady-state value of the average squared error. Accordingly, the analysis shows that convergence speed can increase by (B+1) times, where B is the number of recycled data, as improving of convergence characteristics using the data-recycling buffer and not increasing complex of computation. The results of the computer simulation demonstrate analyzing mean squared error in accordance with the worst step-size parameter and eigenvalue spread and the superiority of signal interference control in the filter algorithm.
