Titanium alloys have been mainly used for aircraft components as well as implant materials. Although a number of cutting tools and cutting methods have been developed for improving the cutting processes, they have difficulties such as tool wear and failure. This study considers a novel approach to on-line monitoring of tool wear and failure in titanium alloy cutting processes. The on-line monitoring system mainly consists of two parts: The one is on-line data acquisition with sensors and a DSP board through LabView and a web server, and the other is learning and prediction of tool wear and failure using an ART2 neural network algorithm. The system is installed at an on-site machine tool to monitor high speed steel(HSS) tools for cutting titanium alloy. A number of experiment are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system.

Purpose To retrospectively evaluate the chest computed tomography (CT) findings of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients with mild clinical symptoms at a single hospital in South Korea. Materials and Methods CT scans of 87 COVID-19 patients [43 men and 44 women; median age: 41 years (interquartile range: 26.1–51.0 years)] with mild clinical symptoms (fever < 38℃ and no dyspnea) were evaluated. Results CT findings were normal in 39 (44.8%) and abnormal in 48 (55.2%) patients. Among the 48 patients with lung opacities, 17 (35.4%) had unilateral disease and 31 (64.6%) had bilateral disease. One (2.1%) patient showed subpleural distribution, 9 (18.8%) showed peribronchovascular distribution, and 38 (79.2%) showed subpleural and peribronchovascular distributions. Twenty-two (45.8%) patients had pure ground-glass opacities (GGOs) with no consolidation, 17 (35.4%) had mixed opacities dominated by GGOs, and 9 (18.8%) had mixed opacities dominated by consolidation. No patients demonstrated consolidation without GGOs. Conclusion The most common CT finding of COVID-19 in patients with mild clinical symptoms was bilateral multiple GGO-dominant lesions with subpleural and peribronchovascular distribution and lower lung predilection. The initial chest CT of almost half of COVID-19 patients with mild clinical symptoms showed no lung parenchymal lesions. Compared to relatively severe cases, mild cases were more likely to manifest as unilateral disease with pure GGOs or GGOdominant mixed opacities and less likely to show air bronchogram.

AlNO multi-layer thin films on aluminum substrates were prepared by DC reactive magnetron sputtering method. $Al_2O_3$/AlNO(LMVF)/AlNO(HMVF)/Al/substrate of 4 multi-layer has been prepared in an Ar and ($N_2+O_2$) gas mixture, and $Al_2O_3$ of top layer is anti-reflection layer on double AlNO(LMVF)/AlNO(HMVF) layers and Al metal of infrared reflection layer. In this study, the roughness and surface properties of AlNO thin films were estimated by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM). The grain size of AlNO thin films increased with increasing sputtering power. The composition of thin films has been systematically investigated using electron probe microanalysis(EPMA). The optical properties with wavelength spectrum were recorded by UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometry at a range of 200~1,500 nm. The absorptance of AlNO films shows the increasing trend with swelling ($N_2+O_2$) gas mixture in HMVF and LMVF deposition. The excellent optical performance showed above 98% of absorptance in visible wavelength region.

Purpose: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is a novel respiratory infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndromecoronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2); there are few specific treatments. Convalescent plasma (CP), donated by people who haverecovered from COVID-19, is an investigational therapy for severe or critically ill patients with COVID-19. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cohort study evaluated the effectiveness of CP therapy in patients with severe or lifethreateningcases of COVID-19 at two hospitals in Seoul, Korea, between May and September 2020. Clinical outcomes were evaluatedin 20 patients with CP therapy in a descriptive manner. Additionally, the changes in cycle threshold (Ct) values of 10 patientswith CP therapy were compared to those of 10 controls who had the same (±0.8) initial Ct values but did not receive CP. Results: Of the 20 patients (mean age 66.6 years), 18 received high-dose oxygen therapy using mechanical ventilators or high-flownasal cannulas. Systemic steroids were administered to 19 patients who received CP. The neutralizing antibody titers of the administeredCP were between 1:80 and 1:10240. There were two ABO-mismatched transfusions. The World Health Organization ordinalscale score and National Institutes of Health severity score improved in half of the patients within 14 days. Those who received CPshowed a higher increase in Ct values at 24 h and 72 h after CP therapy compared to controls with similar initial Ct values (p=0.002). No transfusion-related side effects were observed. Conclusion: CP therapy may be a potential therapeutic option in severe or critically ill patients with COVID-19.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a vasculitic process, often associated with systemic diseases, including Takayasu`s arteritis (TA), rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Most cases of PG associated with TA have been observed in Japan. However, this association is not commonly observed in North American and European patients. PG is often refractory to therapy, requiring high dosages of glucocorticoids. Here, we describe a case of recalcitrant PG that was associated with TA and successfully treated with methotrexate.
