Acute transient salivary gland swelling is a rare complication of general anesthesia. These swellings usually resolve over a few hours without sequelae. The etiology of the salivary gland swelling is unclear. However, they are considered to be associated with cough or straining on the endotracheal tube and mechanical blockage of salivary gland duct. Anesthesiologists should know the possible causes, lack of clinical significance, and the course of these transient salivary gland swellings in order to reassure the patient. We report bilateral submandibular gland swelling developed after endotracheal anesthesia in a 4-year-old girl. (Korean J Anesthesiol 2007; 53: 532∼4)

In high multistory, reinforced concrete buildings, coupled shear walls(CSWs) can provide an efficient structural system to resist horzontal forces due to wind and seimic effects. Behavior of these structures depend on degree of coupling and details of coupling beam. This paper composed of two subjects. First subject is a verification of proposed statistical regression formula for evaluation of the degree of coupling and determination of fundamental periods of CSWS by Challal et al. Second subject is a comparison of elastic behavior and nonlinear seismic behavior of fully coupled shear wall and partially coupled shear wall for Details and Degree of coupling. This paper used IDARC-2D and Midas Gen 4.3.2 for the purpose of achievement these subjects. Analysis results shows that statistical regression formula by Chaallal revise a little. Elastic and nonlinear seismic analytical result shows that steel coupling beam and diagonally reinforced concrete coupling beam have good behavior. Also, fully coupled shear wall have food behavior than partially coupled shear wall.

N/A A search for contraction and relaxation responses on the smooth muscles, antimicrobial and antioxidant activity in different body parts of 4 freshwater fish and 4 marine fish were conducted. The four freshwater fish studied were Sarotherodon niloticus (tilapia), Channa arus (snake head), Cyprinus carpio (Israel carp) and Silures osotus (catfish), and the four marine fish were Scyliorhinus torazame (tiger shark), Atelepus japonicus (tadpole fish), Mugil cephalus (gray mullet) and Thamnaconus modestus (file fish). Frozen samples were extracted with distilled water containing 1% acetic acid. Antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coil was detected in extracts from several tissues in all species tested. Relatively high antimicrobial activity could also be detected in the bile extracts from C. carpio, M. cephalus, and T. modestus. Contraction and relaxation responses on smooth muscles could be detected in all species tested, especially in the intestine extracts. Antioxidant activity was also detected in extracts from several tissues in all species tested, while in the extracts from S. osotus, excluding livers and spleens, no antioxidant activity was detected. Results from this study suggest that fish are a potential source for the discovery of novel bioactive materials.

해양세균, Shewanella sp. SR-14에 의한 규조류 Chaetoceros calcitrans의 증식저해 - 해양세균이 규조류의 지방산 조성변화에 미치는 영향 -

규조류 C. calcitrans와 S. costatum 그리고 Chaetoceros spp. 생육저해 활성을 가지는 해양세균, Shewanella sp. SR-14와 그 저해활성이 없는 Vibrio alginolyticus의 지방산 조성을 분석하고 이들 해양세균과 규조류를 각각 혼합배양하였을 때 규조류의 지방산 조성 변화를 측정하였다. Peptone broth에서 20˚C, 3일간 배양한 Shewanella sp. SR-14의 주요 지방산 조성은 16:1n-7 (29.4%) 과 16:0 (19.2%)이었으나, V. alginolticus의 경우는 16:0 (23.7%), 16:1n-7 (27.7%) 및 18:1n-7 (21.0%)이었으며, 이들 세균을 Conwy 배지에서 재배양하였을 때, 그 조성은 peptone broth에서 배양한 균체와 약간의 변화가 있었다. 순수배양한 미세조류의 주요 지방산은 C. calcitrans의 경우 16:1n-7 (33.3%), 16:0 (27.1%) 및 14:0 (12.1%)이었고, S. costatum mainly contained 은 6:1n-7 (28.9%), 16:0 (21.6%) 및 20:5 (19.8%)이었다. 세균과 혼합배양한 규조류의 지방산 조성은 Shewanella sp. SR-14와 혼합배양한 경우 순수배양한 조체에 비하여 포화지방산의 비율은 감소하였으나 불포화지방산의 비율은 증가하였으며, 그 변동율은 C. calcitrans의 경우가 S. costatum보다 높았다. 그러나 V. alginolticus와 혼합배양한 경우 C. calcitrans는 포화지방산이 증가한 반면 불포화지방산은 감소하는 경향을 나타내었고, S. costatum은 순수 배양한 조체와 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 그래서 C. calcitrans 는 Shewancella sp. SR-14에 의하여 불포화지방산의 조성이 증가되고, 이러한 지방산은 이 균이 생성하는 조류증식 저해물질과 상승적으로 작용하여 더욱 조류의 증식이 억제되는 것으로 시사되었다. In the previous reports, the authors isolated two strains of marine bacteria, shewanella sp. SR-14, which has Chaetoceros sp. growth inhibition activity, and Vibrio alginolyticus, that did not affect growth of the alga. In the present study, fatty acid compositions of diatoms, Chaetoceros calcitrans and Skeletonema costatum, and marine bacteria, Shewanella sp. SR-14 and V. alginolyticus, were analyzed. Changes of fatty acid composition in the diatoms grown with the marine bacteria were also determined. Major fatty acids of Shewanella sp. SR-14 were 16:1n-7 (29.4%) and 16:0 (19.2%) during incubation in peptone broth at 20 ˚C for 3days. The compositions of V. alginolticus detected were 16:0 (23.7%), 16:1n-7 (27.7%) and 18:1n-7 (21.0%). C. calcitrans consisted of 16:1n-7 (33.3%), 16:0 (27.1%) and 14:0 (12.1%). S. costatum mainly contained 16:1n-7 (28.9%), 16:0 (21.6%) and 20:5 (19.8%). When halves of cell numbers of C. calcitrans were moribund cells by Shewanella sp. SR-14, the C. calcitrans and S. costatum simultaneously cultured with the bacteria were harvested by filtration with GF/D glass microfibre filter. In the fatty acid composition of both diatoms, saturated fatty acid contents in both diatoms grown with Shewanells sp. SR-14 wre decreased, but unsaturated fatty acid contents were increased. The differences were greater in C. calcitrans than those in S. costatum. During the growth of diatoms with V. alginolyticus, C. calcitrans showed increase of saturated fatrty acid contents and decrease of unsaturated fatty acid contents ; however, S. costatum did not show sharp difference in fatty acid content. In this study, Shewanella sp. SR-14, which showed growth inhibition activity against C. calcitrans, influenced on the changes of fatty acid contents in the diatom. It was suggested that increased unsaturated fatty acid was synergistically activated algal growth inhibition activity of Shewanella sp. SR-14.

시중 유통김에 대한 세균학적 위생 안전 확보 방안 구축을 위하여, 제품 중의 세균 수를 감소시킬 수 있는 여러 가지 열처리 효과와, 가공 공정 중 외부로부터의 오염이 유입되는 건조 공정 개선시험을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 장기 보관 또는 유통을 목적으로 제품의 수분 감소를 위하여 채택되고 있는 상법의 열처리 (화입) 공정 전후 제품의 세균학적 품질의 차이는 거의 없었다. 마른김을 가스불로 직접 또는 간접 가열할 경우, 제품 중의 세균수는 정도의 차이는 있었지만 최초 균 수 10^8 CFU/g에서 10^5 CFU/g로 약 1∼3 log cycle 감소하였다. 조미 열처리 가공 김 가공에 상법적으로 사용되고 있는 배소기를 사용하여 열처리 할 경우 제품 중의 생균수는 2.2×10^5∼5.2×10^7 CFU/g에서 7.0×l0²∼5.0×10^5 CFU/g로 감소하였다. 마른김 표면에 20W의 자외선을 단면과 양면에 20분간 조사한 경우, 생균수는 2.2×10^6 CFU/g에서 8.0×10^5 CFU/g, 2.0×10^5 CFU/g로 각각 감소하였다. 외부 오염을 차단할 수 있는 정치형 건조기를 사용하여 제조한 마른 김의 생균수는 10³CFU/g로 상업적으로 유통되고 있는 기존의 상품에 비하여 4∼5 log cycle 정도 낮았다. To establish a food safety of dried laver, heat treatment effect on the bacterial density of dried lavers was investigated. And a modified process developing experiment for dried laver products using closing type drying oven was carried out. Little bacterial density difference on the dried laver products were found before and after heat treatment at 90℃ for 6 hrs called Hwaip treatment having been used for long term storage. Direct or indirect heat treatment of dried lavers using gas burner and frying pan reduced about 1 to 3 log cycle of viable cell count from l0^8 CFU/g to l0^5 CFU/g. Heat treatment by direct surface contact type cooking machine being used in the market place for cooked dried laver products could reduce the viable cell count on the laver product from 2.2×10^5∼5.2×10^7 CFU/g to 7.0×10²∼5.0×10^5 CFU/g. Ultraviolet irradiation (20 W, 30㎝) to one or both side of the dried laver products reduced the viable cell count from 2.2×10^6 CFU/g to 8.0×10^5 CFU/g and 2.0×10^5 CFU/g, respectively. The viable cell count of the dried laver products produced by modified process using a closing type dryer was about 10³CFU/g and lower 3 log cycle than that in the products collected in market place and made by open type dryer.

Mastoparan B (MPB)는 벌독으로부터 정제된 양친매성α-helical 구조를 취하면서 14개의 아미노산 잔기로 구성된 염기성 항균성 펩타이드로서 여러 가지 생물막과 작용한다. 본 연구에서는 우리 나라 연안의 적조 (HABs, harmful algal blooms)를 일으키는 4종의 적조생물 (Alexandrium tamarense, Chattonella catenatum)에 대한 MPB의 살조효과를 조사하였다. MPB의 4종의 적조생물에 대한 살조효과는 31.3㎍/㎖에서 세포의 lysis또는 ecdysis와 같은 형태로 현미경으로 관찰할 수 있었다. 또한 MPB는 C. marina 및 C. polykridorides에 대해서 A. tamarense와 G. catenatum보다 더욱 강한 살조효과를 나타내었다. 이러한 MPB의 HABs에 대한 살조효과연구는 새로운 살조물질을 개발하기 위한 자료가 될 것으로 생각된다. Mastoparan B (MPB), an antimicrobial cationic peptide isolated from the venom of the hornet Vespa basalis, is a basic amphipathic a-helical peptide composed of fourteen amino acid residues. In this study, we have investigated the algicidal effect of MPB against hatmful algae blooms (HABs) casative Alexandrium tamarense, Chattonella marina, Cochlodinium polykrikoides and Gymnodinium catenatum. The algicidal effect of MPB showed in the concentration of 31.3 ㎍/㎖ to 500 ㎍/㎖ against 4 HAB species and observed cell lysis or cell ecdysis by microscopy. MPB reacted more sensitive to C. marina and C.polykrikoides than A. tamarense and G. catenatum. The algicidal study of MPB against HABs will provides much insight into development of new algicidal substances.
