To investigate the effects of robot-assisted gait training with Lokornatrl-locoma AG, Switzerland) on balance, sensory and ability to walk in non-ambulatory chronic stroke patients. A total 12 subjects poststroke with non -functional ambulation (F AC ≤ 2, mean duration of disease Lfiyears) completed and received 30 minutes of robot-assisted gait training with body weight-support, 3 times a week for 4 weeks and 30 minutes of conventional physiotherapy daily. Outcome measures were evaluated prior training and after 12 sessions. The outcome measure was body balancel Berg Balance Scale(BBS), Functional Reaching Test] and mobility and functional ambulation categorytf"At"), Fugel-Meyer assessment(FMA), 10M Walking test, Time up and go(TUG), Lower limb Motricity IndextMl), Modified bathel index(MBD, Modified Ashworth scalefMzs.S). Also we assessed body tissue composition. Significant improvement in balance measured by BBS and FRT(p<0.05). MAS of hip and transfer item of MEl were observed in subjects who received robot-assisted gait therapy with Lokomat compared with baseline (p<0.05). The robot-assisted gait training with body weight-support is considered to be one of the therapeutic method for improvement of body balance and functional ability in non-ambulatory chronic stroke patients and further controlled studies need to be performed.

Wave energy distribution along Korean coastal sea area, including Dok-Do and Eo-Do, was analysed based on the calculated wave data at KORDI. The wave data for the analysis is for the last 24 years (1979-2002) and the model is SWAN. The wave energy was investigated as a combination of swell and wind driven components, and the wave direction information was also provided. The results shed some idea on the amount of usable wave energy and the sites of higher efficiency. It is fair to say that 3㎾/m wave energy is easily observable and 10㎾/m is frequently available depending on the season and location The south west region of Jeju island is believed to have the highest overall wave energy density except the remote regions of Dok-Do and Eo-Do where the wave energy is even higher.

Purpose: Most surgeries to correct congenital ptosis in children are performed with the patient under general anesthesia, which makes the postoperative outcome unpredictable. We analyzed the factors influencing postoperative changes in the fissure height of congenital ptosis patients with poor levator function under general anesthesia after frontalis suspension surgery. Methods: We reviewed the medical charts of 79 congenital ptosis patients with poor levator function (4 mm or less) who underwent frontalis suspension with autogenous fascia lata under general anesthesia between January 2001 and December 2004. We considered lagophthalmos induced by general anesthesia as the baseline lid level, and the lid was elevated in proportion to the amount of ptosis, as assessed by photographic analysis. Photographs were taken and then analyzed using the Scion Map analysis program to measure the fissure height objectively at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months. Results: The fissure height formed by frontalis suspension surgery increased progressively and stabilized 1 month after the operation. Levator function had no significant effect on postoperative changes in fissure height. However, a more severe preoperative ptosis and a higher lagophthalmos were associated with a relatively smaller increase in adjusted lid height during the follow-up period. Conclusions: A good postoperative outcome was achieved by adjusting the lid height to a higher level in eyes with higher lagophthalmos. Especially when confronted with the dilemma of how to correct asymmetric ptosis, higher elevation of lid height in eyes with more severe preoperative ptosis and higher lagophthalmos while under (general) anesthesia should be helpful in the prediction of postoperative surgical outcomes.
