        Triphenyl phosphate activates estrogen receptor α/NF-κB/ cyclin D1 signaling to stimulate cell cycle progression in human Ishikawa endometrial cancer cells

        ObjectiveTriphenyl phosphate (TPHP) is one of the most commonly used organophosphorus flame retardants that mayaccumulate in the environment. However, its effects on human reproductive organs have not been well studied. Weaimed to investigate the in vitro effects of TPHP in human Ishikawa endometrial cancer cells to elucidate how TPHPexposure disrupts intracellular signaling and cell proliferation in reproductive tissues. MethodsHuman Ishikawa endometrial cancer cells were exposed to TPHP. ResultsExposure to TPHP elevated the levels of estrogen receptor (ER) α and progesterone receptor-B and reduced ER β inhuman Ishikawa endometrial cancer cells. TPHP stimulated phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B and mitogenactivatedprotein kinase/ extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1/2 kinase signaling, which may contribute to theactivation of ER function and induce nuclear translocation of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated Bcells (NF-κB) in human Ishikawa endometrial cancer cells. Activated ER and NF-κB stimulate the expression of cyclin D1/cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/CDK6, indicating cell cycle progression and proliferation. ConclusionThis report may provide new information on the molecular mechanisms underlying how TPHP exposure dysregulatesthe cellular physiology of the human endometrium.

        초등학교 과학과 자유탐구에 대한 실태 및 효과 분석

        이 연구는 초등학교에서의 자유탐구 실태와 자유탐구에 대한 교사와 학생의 인식을 알아보고 자유탐구의 횟수에 따른 과학탐구능력과 과학적 태도를 비교하여 자유탐구의 현장 적용상황을 파악하며 지속적인 자유탐구 실행의 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 전라남도 소재 10개의 초등학교에서 자유탐구를 지도한 경험이 있는 교사 94명과 자유탐구를 수행한 경험이 있는 6학년 학생 417명을 대상으로 하였다. 자료 수집을 위하여 기존문헌을 참고하여 설문지를 개발하고 과학탐구능력과 과학적 태도 검사를 수행하였다. 자유탐구 실태 조사 결과 교사들은 자유탐구 관련 연수를 받지 않고 지도하고 있어 문제점으로 나타났다. 교사들의 65%가 자유탐구를 수행하는 것이 학생들의 과학적 소양을 쌓는데 도움이 된다고 생각하며 지도의 어려운 점으로 학생들의 탐구능력 부족, 지도시간 부족, 학생들의 흥미나 관심 부재, 학생 수 과다, 교사의 지도능력 부족이라고 인식하고 있었다. 자유탐구 횟수가 많은 학생들이 자유탐구실시에 대한 선호도에서 더 긍정적으로 인식하고 있어 계속해서 자유탐구를 수행할 필요성이 있음을 시사하였다. 학생들의 자유탐구 횟수별 효과를 알아본 결과 자유탐구 횟수가 많을수록 과학탐구능력의 평균 점수가 유의하게 더 높았고 특히 통합탐구능력과 그 하위요소인 자료해석과 가설설정에서 유의한 차이를 나타냈다. 또한 탐구 횟수에 따른 과학적 태도에서 유의한 차이가 있었으며 하위 요소인 개방성과 비판성에서 탐구 횟수가 많을수록 유의미하게 높게 나타났다. 연수의 필요성을 느끼는 교사들에게 효율적인 연수 프로그램이 제공되어야하며 자유탐구 횟수가 많을수록 자유탐구 실시에 대한 선호도가 긍정적이고 과학탐구능력 및 과학적 태도에 유의미한 영향을 끼치므로 앞으로 계속해서 자유탐구를 실시할 필요가 있다. The aims of this study are to grasp the realities of open inquiry of teachers and students in elementary school, the application situation of open inquiry by comparing science inquiry abilities and scientific attitudes of students who have experienced only once and students who have experienced open inquiry continuously, and the effects of continued practice of the open inquiry. The subjects are 94 teachers who have taught open inquiry at 10 elementary schools in South Jeonla Province and 417 students who have experienced it at the same schools. In order to collect the materials, established questionnaires in referring to the existing materials and tested the science inquiry abilities and scientific attitudes of students. Most teachers taught open inquiry suitably to the curriculum, but the problem was the few chances for them to participate in the in-service training for open inquiry. Many teachers regarded the open inquiry as the useful tool of enhancing students’ scientific literacy. But difficulties were students’ poor inquiry abilities, the lack of teaching hours and students’ interests and concerns, too many students to teach in a class, and poor teaching abilities. Students’ preference on open inquiry is considerably positive, the preferences of students who inquired many times are more positive. This suggests that continuous science open inquiry is needed. According to the results of the effect on the frequency, the more frequent science open inquiries, the higher science inquiry abilities meaningfully, there were significant differences in the integrated inquiry ability, especially interpreting materials and establishing hypothesis. There were also significant differences in scientific attitudes by the inquiry frequencies, especially openness and criticism.

      • 낙동강 하류지역의 토양특성에 의한 강변여과수와 하천수의 수질에 관한 연구

        In this research, the soil analysis and adsorption were studied and it compared the water quality of bank filtration with that of river in terms of TS, TDS, SS, NH₄-N, NO₃-N, NO₂-N, Fe, Mn, BOD and KMnO₄ consumption for the development of bank filtration in Kimhae city. The analysis of soil collected from the study area showed high concentrations of Fe(470 ㎎/㎏), Mn(80 ㎎/㎏) and NH₄-N(15 ㎎/㎏). Also, k and 1/n which are adsorption coefficients were 0.00159 and 0.8714, respectively. This implies that the adsorption of the soil depends on organic matter. The analysis of the water qualities of the river and the bank filtration in terms of TS, TDS and SS revealed that the concentrations of TS and TDS almost didn t change but the concentration of SS decreased 84% through the bank filtration NH₄-N of the bank filtration was detected more than 1㎎/L which might be due to agricultural activities in the research area. NO₃-N was almost 0 ㎎/L because of the removal by the soil adsorption. KMnO₄ consumption and BOD of the river were reduced by the bank filtration 250% and 350%, respectively. But, Fe and Mn were significantly increased by the bank filtration.

        건조방법에 따른 충주산 병풀의 영양성분과 생리활성

        Centella asiatica (CA) has been used as a nutritional plant as well as a traditional herbal medicine around the world. This study, quality component (proximate composition, total polyphenol, and triterpenoid compound), and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of CA dried using various methods were investigated. Proximate compositions of CA with different drying methods included a large amount of carbohydrates, crude protein, crude ash, and crude fiber. Among the drying methods, cold drying provided the highest total polyphenol content and antioxidant activity, while hot-air drying at 75℃ provided the lowest total polyphenol content and antioxidant activity. In addition, when the major triterpenoid compounds of CA were analyzed, the highest content of asiaticoside of triterpenoid glycoside was obtained with all drying methods. With respect to the total triterpenoid, the highest content was obtained with cold drying (68.8 mg/g) whereas natural drying (31.4 mg/g) provided the lowest content. In anti-inflammatory activity of LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, EtOH extract of cold drying showed a significantly higher inhibitory activity in comparison to the other drying methods. In conclusion, it is considered that the cold drying method is suitable for industrial preparation of functional materials with high physiological ingredients, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities from CA.

      • 2P-560 Binary Mixture of Carbonate and Ionic Liquids as Electrolyte for Lithium Ion Battery

        Lithium ion batteries (LIBs) have been researched to apply large-scale devices such as electric vehicles or energy storage systems. However, LIBs must overcome safety issues in explosion caused by flammable carbonate electrolytes. In this regard, ionic liquids (ILs) could be candidates as alternative electrolyte due to their non-flammable and non-volatile properties. To obtain the advantages of each electrolyte of ionic liquid and carbonate, we propose a mixed system of ILs and commercial carbonate. Herein, we analyze the physicochemical properties of binary electrolytes while differentiate the ratio between prepared ILs and carbonates. In thermal behavior, we make certain that the higher ratio of the ILs have a positive effect on the thermal stability. Furthermore, the 6:4 ratio (ILs:carbonate) of mixed electrolyte shows better properties than the other mixed system in electrochemical and physicochemical characteristics.
