Precise and reasonable modelling is necessary and indispensable to the analysis of dynamic characteristics of mechanical structures. Also. the effective prediction of the change of modal properties due to the variation of design parameters is required especially for the application of finite element method to the structural dynamics problems. To meet those necessity and requirement, three model updating algorithms are proposed for finite element methods. Those algorithms are based on sensitivity analysis of the modal data obtained from experimental modal analysis(EMA) and analytical modal analysis(AMA). The adapted sensitivity analysis methods of the algorithms are 1)eigensensitivity(EGNS) method. 2)frequency response function sensitivity(FRFS) method. 3)sensitivity based element-by-element method (SBEEM), Singular value decomposition(SVD) is used for performing eigenanalysis and parameter estimation in the updating process. Those algorithms are applied to finite element of a plate and the updating capability of each algorithm is compared in terms of accuracy. reliability and stability of the updating process. It is shown that the model updating method using frequency response function is superior to the other methods in view of various updating capabilities.

Surface heat treatment using a laser beam or an electron beam is studied through numerical analyses and experiments. For the surface heat treatment process, a theoretical model is developed to predict the effects of laser beam power, travel speed and properties of a workpiece on the depth and width of the heat affected zone(HAZ). The shape of HAZ and the hardness of heat-treated surface are experimentally obtained using an electron beam. Three materials(SS41, S45C and S55C) are selected as workpiece materials. The hardness of HAZ is increased up to 3 times for materials of a low carbon content. The results of the numerical analysis are compared with those of experiments. The comparison shows that the numerical model predicts larger depths and widths.

An automatic transfer line consists of several stages(groups of stations) in series into one system by a common transfer mechanism and a common control system. In this system losses of the efficiency are evidenced in periods where a stage is forcod down- starved or blocked. The efficiency of an automatic transfer line can be improved by providing buffer storages between a stage or the length of line common senses there are several critical factors, system configurations relative position, and buffer capacity allocations in automatic transfer line are considered with a point of view production rates, average stock, and mean delay. The propose of this paper is to provide the robust designs by Taguchi method which improve the efficiency of four-stage transfer line.

Background/Aims: To evaluate the technical feasibility and clinical efficacy of double endoscopic nasobiliary drainage (ENBD) as a new method of draining multiple bile duct obstructions. Methods: A total of 38 patients who underwent double ENBD between January 2004 and February 2010 at the Asan Medical Center were retrospectively analyzed. We evaluated indications, laboratory results, and the clinical course. Results: Of the 38 patients who underwent double ENBD, 20 (52.6%) had Klatskin tumors, 12 (31.6%) had hepatocellular carcinoma, 3 (7.9%) had strictures at the anastomotic site following liver transplantation, and 3 (7.9%) had acute cholecystitis combined with cholangitis. Double ENBD was performed to relieve multiple biliary obstruction in 21 patients (55.1%), drain contrast agent filled during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in 4 (10.5%), obtain cholangiography in 4 (10.5%), drain hemobilia in 3 (7.9%), relieve Mirizzi syndrome with cholangitis in 3 (7.9%), and relieve jaundice in 3 (7.9%). Conclusions: Double ENBD may be useful in patients with multiple biliary obstructions.

Objectives : In a previous study, we have shown that Gagam-Gongjin-Dan(GGD) has an inhibitory effect on the ovalbumin-induced immune responses and a hepatoprotective effect on actaminophen-induced liver injury in Balb/c Mice. However, the possible anti-inflammatory effect of GGD extract for inflammatory mediators was not reported. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate an inhibitory effects of GGD extract against lipopolysaccharides(LPS) induced inflammatory mediators in mouse peritoneal macrophages. Methods : GGD extract was prepared by extracting with methanol for 7 days. The extract was freeze-dried following filtration through vacuum distillation system. Accumulated nitrite, an oxidative product of nitric oxide(NO), was measured in the culture medium by the Griess reaction. The levels of prostaglandin $E_2(PGE_2)$, interleukin-$1{\beta}$(IL-$1{\beta}$), tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$(TNF-${\alpha}$) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) were measured by Western blot analysis. Results : GGD extract (50-$400\;{\mu}g$/ml) per se had no cytotoxic effect in LPS-stimulated peritoneal macrophages. GGD extract dose-dependently reduced NO, $PGE_2$, IL-$1{\beta}$ and TNF-${\alpha}$ production and COX-2 activity caused by stimulation of LPS. The levels of iNOS and COX-2 protein expressions were markedly suppressed by the treatment with GGD extract in a dose dependent manner. Conclusions : These results suggest that GGD extract has an anti-inflammatory effect against LPS-induced inflammatory mediators in peritoneal macrophages, these properties may contribute to inflammation disease care.
