        This study attempted to determine the degree of asbestos release from the aging slate roof by comparing the asbestos content in the slate roof rain gutter with a colored steel plate (tin plate) over the slate roof. Four slate roof houses located in Haengmok-ri, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, and one house constructed with a colored steel plate on the slate roof were selected to collect the sediment of the roof rain gutter. The asbestos fiber content was calculated by a point counting method using a polarization microscope after pretreatment with conversion treatment and hydrochloric acid treatment. The average asbestos content of the four slate roof rain gutter were 1.89%. However, asbestos was not detected in the Slate covering roof rain gutter, which were constructed on the slate roof. Asbestos fiber content was the highest at 2.89% in the slate roof rain gutter installed in 1976, followed by 2.44% in 1953. From the above results, it is necessary to minimize secondary damage as asbestos fibers released from slate roof houses to the surrounding atmosphere or leaked from slate roofs as rainwater may cause soil pollution and seriously affect residents' health. Although covering with colored steel plates (tin plates) has been shown to prevent the leakage of asbestos fibers to some extent, it is believed that a policy alternative to remove the slate roof as soon as possible is needed to solve the fundamental problem.

        Alterations in DNA methylation patterns in regenerated Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis) plants derived from tissue culture

        Plant tissue culture is an essential tool in biotechnology. However, tissue-cultured plants often exhibit variations that are either genetic or epigenetic in origin, termed somaclonal variations. Among these variations, DNA methylation is an important heritable epigenetic modification that plays a role in a wide variety of biological processes, including gene expression. In this study, we performed bisulfite sequencing of regenerated Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis) lines to identify DNA alterations induced by tissue culture. Sequencing data from each regenerated line were compared with reference genome sequences, and common differentially methylated regions (DMRs) were detected in the regenerants. To determine changes in expression levels of DMR-containing genes, we performed quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) of the target genes and PCR amplification with bisulfite-converted DNA. We identified DMRs between a non-regenerant line and regenerant lines and selected 10 DMR-associated genes that presented annotation information in Arabidopsis or Brassica rapa. Their expression levels were verified by qRT-PCR to determine the relation between methylation state and gene expression. We observed that genes positioned in DMRs significantly correlated with differential gene expression. We also observed similar methylation patterns in the selected DMRs by PCR-based methylation analysis. The results of this study are a valuable resource for the epigenetic analysis of regenerated lines, especially for Chinese cabbage.

      • Crosslinked anion exchange membranes with primary diamine-based crosslinkers for vanadium redox flow battery application

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A series of polysulfone-based crosslinked anion exchange membranes (AEMs) with primary diamine-based crosslinkers has been prepared via simple a crosslinking process as low-cost and durable membranes for vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs). Chloromethylated polysulfone is used as a precursor polymer for crosslinked AEMs (CAPSU-x) with different degrees of crosslinking. Among the developed AEMs, CAPSU-2.5 shows outstanding dimensional stability and anion (Cl<SUP>−</SUP>, SO<SUB>4</SUB> <SUP>2−</SUP>, and OH<SUP>−</SUP>) conductivity. Moreover, CAPSU-2.5 exhibits much lower vanadium ion permeability (2.72 × 10<SUP>−8</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> min<SUP>−1</SUP>) than Nafion 115 (2.88 × 10<SUP>−6</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> min<SUP>−1</SUP>), which results in an excellent coulombic efficiency of 100%. The chemical and operational stabilities of the membranes have been investigated via ex situ soaking tests in 0.1 M VO<SUB>2</SUB> <SUP>+</SUP> solution and in situ operation tests for 100 cycles, respectively.         Effect of sous-vide cooking conditions on the physicochemical, microbiological and microstructural properties of duck breast meat

        Objective: Sous-vide cooking offers several advantages for poultry meat, including enhanced tenderness, reduced cooking loss, and improved product yield. However, in duck meat, there are challenges associated with using the sous-vide method. The prolonged cooking time at low temperatures can lead to unstable microbial and oxidative stabilities. Thus, we aimed to assess how varying sous-vide cooking temperatures and durations affect the physicochemical and microbial characteristics of duck breast meat, with the goal of identifying an optimal cooking condition. Methods: Duck breast meat (Anas platyrhynchos) aged 42 days and with an average weight of 1,400±50 g, underwent cooking under various conditions (ranging from 50℃ to 80℃) for either 60 or 180 min. Then, physicochemical, microbial, and microstructural properties of the cooked duck breast meat were assessed. Results: Different cooking conditions affected the quality attributes of the meat. The cooking loss, lightness, yellowness, Hue angle, whiteness, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) values of the duck breast meat increased with the increase in cooking temperature and time. In contrast, the redness and chroma values decreased with the increase in cooking temperature and time. Cooking of samples higher than 60℃ increased the volatile basic nitrogen contents and TBARS. Microbial analysis revealed the presence of Escherichia coli and Coliform only in the samples cooked at 50℃ and raw meat. Cooking at lower temperature and shorter time increased the tenderness of the meat. Microstructure analysis showed that the contraction of myofibrils and meat density increased upon increasing the cooking temperature and time. Conclusion: Our data indicate that the optimal sous-vide method for duck breast meat was cooking at 60℃ for 60 min. This temperature and time conditions showed good texture properties and microbial stability, and low level of TBARS of the duck breast meat.

        헬스케어용 가다랑어(Katsuwonus pelamis) 통조림의 제조 및 특성

        This study was conducted to prepare canned skipjack tuna Katsuwonus pelamis in the mixture of isotonic beverage and tomato paste (ST-S) for use as a health food. An analysis of the time-temperature profile and viable cells showed that a reasonable F0 value for ST-S preparation was 4 min. The proximate composition of ST-S was 76.8% moisture, 20.2% crude protein, 0.8% crude lipid, 1.7% ash and 0.5% carbohydrate. The calorie content of ST-S was 94.8 kcal, which is 47.4% lower than that of commercial canned skipjack tuna in oil (ST-O) and 2.2% lower than that of commercial chicken breast in water (CB-B). The total amino acid content of ST-S was 18.54 g/100 g, which is 31.4% lower than that of ST-O and 7.9% lower than that of CB-B. The major amino acids in ST-S were aspartic acid and glutamic acid. An enrichment effect due to such minerals as phosphorus, potassium and iron would be expected on consuming 100 g of ST-S. The major fatty acids in ST-S were 16:0 (27.4%), 18:1n-9 (14.3%) and 22:6n-3 (27.8%), which are different from those in ST-O and CB-B. The major free amino acids in ST-S were glutamic acid (8.1%), histidine (38.6%) and its related dipeptide, such as anserine (15.7%). In an evaluation of taste, flavor and color, ST-S was found to be superior to ST-O and CB-B.

      • 허혈성 심질환에 있어서 아데노신 급속 정맥투여후 관동맥압의 변화에 관한 연구

        Background: Adenosine interacts with A1 receptors present on the extracellular surface of cardiac cells, activating K+channels in a fashion. It produces coronary vasodilatation and AV nodal block. The half-time is one to six second and has ultra-short action. In ischemic heart disease, fractional flow reserve(FFR) can be achieved safely with intravenous adenosine infusions at a rate of 150㎍/kg/min which cause maximal coronary hyperemia. Purpose: We investigated the patients who have had ischemic heart disease(n=8). After adenosine intravenous administration(150㎍/kg/min), the effect cause maximal hyperemia of coronary artery. During peak maximal hyperemia, we reported clinical findings, coronary hemodynamics and electrocardiogram findings. Methods: After diagnostic coronary angiography and left ventriculography, catheter was advanced into the ostium of coronary artery. We investigated coronary hemodynamics such as systolic coronary artery pressure, diastolic coronary artery pressure, mean coronary artery pressure and heart rate. To assess the use of adenosine for determination of fractional flow reserve, hemodynamics and electrocardiogram were measured at basal state and during peak maximal hyperemia. Results: Symptoms developed 1.5-2 minute after adenosine intravenous administration and each symptom disappeared 2-2.5 minute after adenosine administration. Two patients represented asymptomatic appearance and six patients complained of flushing, chest pain, palpitation and headache. In eight patients with ischemic heart disease, 1.5 minute after venous administration of 150㎍/kg/min of adenosine, coronary artery pressure decreased and heart rate increased significantly. Conduction abnormalities after administration of 150㎍/kg/min of adenosine were transient 2nd degree AV block 2 cases(25%). Conclusions: Adenosine is a potent ultra short-acting vasodilator. Although coronary artery pressure decreased and heart rate increased and mild cardiovascular symptoms occurred after continuous infusion of 150㎍/kg/min of adenosine, it is useful as an agent for determination of fractional flow reserve.

      • 혈액 종양환자에서 Tobramycin의 임상약동학

        항암화학요법을 받고 있던 중 감염으로 tobramycin을 투여받은 36명의 혈액종양 환자에서 tobramycin의 약동학적 특성을 비종양환자군에서의 population 값과 비교 검토하였다. 이들은 모두 정상 신기능을 가진 16세 이상의 성인남녀(21:15)백혈병 환자들이었다. 36명의 혈액종양 환자에서 산출된 tobramycin의 청소율 및 체내분포용적은 각각 120.3± 27.2ml/lg/hr 및 0.386± 0.11 L/㎏로 population 추정 치보다 유의하게 큰 값을 보였다.(P. <0.05).청소율과 체내분포용적을 해당 population 추정치로 나눈 비율치(ratio)의 평균값은 각각 1.47± 0.34 및 1.20± 0.34였다. 연령, hematocrit치, 혈청albumin치, 발열 및 항암화학요법기간과 tobramycin의 청소율 및 체내분포용적 사이에 유의한 상관관계는 발견할 수 없었다. 본 연구결과 혈액종양 환자에서 tobramycin 투여시는 적정혈장농도를 유지하기 위해 일반 환자군에 비해 용량의 증가 및 투여간격의 조정이 필요하며 지속적인 혈장농도 monitoring을 통하여 용법의 재적정화가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. The pharmacokinetics of tobramycin were evaluated in 36 hematologic malignancy patients undergoing anticancer chemotherapy and compared to the expected values from the population parameters. Total body clearance(mean : 12.3±27.2㎖/㎏/hr) and volume of distribution (mean : 0.386±0.11 L/㎏) in hematologic malignancy patients with normal renal function were significantly greater than those of estimated from population parameter distribution(P<0.05). The ratios of total body clearance and volume of distribution to the population estimates were 1.44±0.37 and 1.20±.034, respectively. No relationships were found between age, hematocrit, serum albumin, fever or duration of anticancer chemotherapy and pharmacokinetic parameters. It is suggested that the increment of tobramycin dose regimen wold be considered in patients with hematologic malignancy, and dose readjustment followed by close monitoring of plasma drug concentration would be required.

        최근 전자상거래의 상업성이 부각되면서 많은 기업들과 개인사업자들이 독자적인 웹서버를 구축하고 자사의 상품 또는 기업에 대한 광고 내용을 인터넷을 통해 서비스를 하고 있다. 그러나 소비자들에게 인지도가 낮은 기업이나 전국의 각 지방의 특산품과 토산품 관련 웹사이트들은 소비자에게 홍보가 부족하고, 상품의 종류와 정보의 부족으로 외면을 당하고 있는 것을 많이 본다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 기업들의 카탈로그를 수집하여 재구성한 후, 한 사이트에서 여러 기업의 상품을 검색할 수 있도록 하여 소비자의 접근과, 각 기업의 상거래 사이트를 활성화 할 수 있는 메타 전자 쇼핑몰 개발에 관해 기술한다. 본 시스템의 특징은 로봇이 자동으로 데이터 베이스를 구축하여 소비자가 쉽게 검색 할 수 있도록 주제어 검색과 디렉토리 검색 및 폴더형맵 검색 인터페이스 구성을 가지고 있다는 점이다.

        To investigate the understanding of middle-school students about the plants described in the middle-school textbooks, a questionnaire concerning the observation and understanding of the plants and the usefulness or kind of materials used in the lecture was developed, and distributed to a sample of middle-school students with diverse grades and locations. Although the middle-school student know plants from the textbook, and observe the plants directly or indirectly, they do not exactly know the reality of plants. Among the many reasons about this problem, the most serious aspect is the absence of the materials about the plants described in textbooks, except the textbook or references. They want to observe the plant speceimens at first, and to see the plant photos, video tape, or CD in computers.

      • 臨床檢體에서 分離된 E. coli의 臨床細菌學的 調査硏究

        A total of 25004 cases of clinical materials from patients was collected in H hospital from January 1974 to December 1984 in Seoul. Among the materials, 7773 cases of the clinical specimens were identified as pathogenic, organisms. The numbers of cases of E. coli isolated from the specimens were 1838 except for cases of incubation of human feces. Infectious pattern and antibiotics sencitivity of the pathogenic organisms and E. coli were as follows: Total clinical specimens, and isolation rate of E. coli from total clinical materials and to the identified pathogenic organisms were increased more than 2 times in 1982 to 1984 comparing to the year in 1974 to 1976. The range of percentage of all identified microorganisms to total clinical specimens was 27.0~34.6% yearly. Isolated ratio E. coli to total specimens was 7.4% and the ration of isolated E. coli to total isolated pathogens was 23.6%(1838/7773). The isolation ratio of E. coli per each patient was 1.323 for male and 1.21 for female. The isolation ratio-of male to female was 1 : 1.88. The highest number of E. coli was found in May for male and June for female according to monthly isolation. On the other hand the lowest number of E. coli was observed in February for male and October for female respectively. In seasonal fluctuation of the isolated orgainsms from patients specimens, the isolation rate was maximized in fall for male, and in summer for female, but the ratio was generally decreased in winter season. The age specific isolation rate of E. coli was 27.8% under 10 year old group for male and 27.1% in 20~29 year old group for female, but the frequency of the organisms was observed lower in 10~19 year old group in both sexes. The isolating sources of specimens in male were 41% in pus, 22.2% in urine and 20.1% in throat swab, and the sources in female were 59.7% from urine, 14% in pus and 11.3% from vaginal discharge. The susceptibility to antibiotics studied for 11 years was all less than 40% in streptomycin, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, carbenicillin, tetracyclin, ampicillin, erythromycin and penicillin except for 73.6% in gentamicin and 52.8% in kanamycin. But in the last 2 years, the antibiotics showing over 90% sensitivity against E. coli were cefotaxime, sisomicin, cefoxitin, amikacin and pipemidic acid.
