<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) has an anti-inflammatory action in acute pancreatitis (AP). However, its mechanism of action and natural compounds/drugs to induce HO-1 in pancreas are not well understood. In this study, we investigated the regulatory mechanisms of HO-1 during AP using desoxo-narchinol-A (DN), the natural compound inducing HO-1 in the pancreas. Female C57/BL6 Mice were intraperitoneally injected with supramaximal concentrations of cerulein (50 μg/kg) hourly for 6 h to induce AP. DMSO or DN was administered intraperitoneally, then mice were sacrificed 6 h after the final cerulein injection. Administration of DN increased pancreatic HO-1 expression through activation of activating protein-1, mediated by mitogen-activated protein kinases. Furthermore, DN treatment reduced the pancreatic weight-to-body weight ratio as well as production of digestive enzymes and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Inhibition of HO-1 by tin protoporphyrin IX abolished the protective effects of DN on pancreatic damage. Additionally, DN treatment inhibited neutrophil infiltration into the pancreas via regulation of chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 2 (CXCL2) by HO-1. Induction of heme oxygenase-1 protects against podocyte apoptosis under diabetic conditions

Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is an anti-oxidant enzyme normally upregulated in response to oxidant injury. Here we determined the role of HO-1 in podocyte apoptosis in glomeruli of streptozotocin-treated rats and in immortalized mouse podocytes cultured in media containing normal or high glucose. HO-1 expression, its activity, the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 protein, and active caspase-3 fragments were all significantly higher in isolated glomeruli of diabetic rats and in high glucose–treated podocytes. These increases were inhibited by zinc protoporphyrin treatment of the rats or by HO-1 siRNA treatment of the podocytes in culture. The number of apoptotic cells was also significantly increased in the glomeruli of diabetic rats and in high glucose–treated podocytes. Inhibition of HO-1 accentuated the increase in apoptotic cells both in vivo and in vitro. Our findings suggest that HO-1 expression protects against podocyte apoptosis under diabetic conditions.

As medical technology progresses rapidly, there is a rise in the average age along with the Korean dietary lifestyle becoming more westernized, which leads to an increase in the number of vascular disease patients in Korea. Thus, we need to manage the medical information of a disease systematically in order to diagnose and treat constructively. However, since there has been no standardized method of man agement to date, a great deal of information could not be properly utilized nor studied. Therefore, the departments of Cardiology, Radiology and Neurology of Samsung Seoul Hospital recently got together to develop an information management system called the Vascular Data System. This program was developed to be run on win98 O/S, upper Pentium Ⅲ, and upper 128 MB Memory, and its source code is Dephi 4.0. It was configured for the user to set the configurations as well as do a variety of search and analysis. If this program were to be updated continuously, it may be used extensively as well as in various parts of clinical research activities.
만성 견비통에 대한 동씨침 치료의 무작위 대조군의 임상 연구

Objectives : To observe the effect of acupuncture treatment in chronic shoulder pain patients. Methods : 36 voluntary patients were randomly assigned to an acupuncture treatment group(E GrouP, n=18) and a control group(C GrouP, n=18). The E Group patients received acupuncture treatment on LI_(15), TE_(14), GB_(21) and Master Dong's acupuncture points, Shin-gwan and Gyun-joong, twice a week for four weeks. The C Group patients received no treatment. All patients in both groups were instructed to practise self exercise in their daily lives. Evaluations were made at baseline and after four weeks of study. The Constant Shoulder Assessment(CSA), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index(SPADI) and the patient's subjective pain was measured by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). The obtained data was analyzed. Results '. The E Group showed significant(p<0.05) improvement in CSA, SPADI and VAS after four weeks of treatment. The C Group showed significant(p<0.05) improvement in CSA, but the change of SPADI and VAS was insignificant(P>0.05). CSA and SPADI of E Group significantly(p<0.05) improved compared to the C GrouP, but the difference of VAS change in the two groups was insignificant(p>0.05). Conclusions : Four weeks of acupuncture treatment significantly improved CSA, SPADI and VAS. The improvement of CSA and SPADI was significant(p<0.05) compared to untreated patients.
하수 방류수 살균소독을 위한 무전극 UV Lamp의 개발

하수방류수 살균소독에 이용되는 UV 램프를 기존의 전극용보다 효율을 높이고 수명이 긴 무전극 UV 램프를 제작하고 그 성능을 알아보았다. 우선 활성물질을 변화시키면서 제조한 램프의 UV강도 및 온도의 변화를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 활성물질이 Hg/Ind의 무게비 95/5로 만든 램프를 250분간 운전한 결과 UV 강도 300 mW/㎤ 및 표면온도 200-250 ℃로 가장 안정적인 결과를 가져왔다. 그러나 무전극 램프를 장시간 발광시켰을 경우 램프의 표면온도가 상승하기 때문에 실제 하수처리공정에 사용하기 위하여 냉각이 가능한 이중관 형태로 제작하여 UV강도와 온도 변화특성도 알아보았다. 또한 제작된 무전극 UV lamp를 하수 방류수의 살균소독을 위하여 대장균(E-coli.)으로 실험한 결과 99.9% 이상의 살균효율을 보였다.

For many years and primarily for economical reasons, Dissimilar Metal Welds have been used as transition joints in a variety of equipment and applications. But Dissimilar Metal Welds have several fabrication and metallurgical drawbacks that can often lead to in-service failures. In this paper, the laser weldability of STS304 stainless steel and SM45C at dissimilar metal welds using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. An experimental study was conducted to determine effects of welding parameters, on eliminating or reducing the extent welding zone formation at dissimilar metal welds and to optimize those parameters that have the most influence parameters such as focus length, power, beam speed, shielding gas, and wave length of laser were tested.

본 연구는 1996년 경남지역 주요 채소류와 화훼류 작물에 발생하는 해충과 기타 주요 해로운 동물의 종류를 알아보기 위하여 수행하였다. 오이에서는 오이총채벌레와 꽃노랑총채벌레를 포함하여 7과 8속 10종이 확인되었으며, 양파에서는 알톡토기를 포함한 4과 4속 4종이 조사되었고, 배추에서는 배추좀나방과 담배거세미나방을 포함한 10과 13속 14종이 확인되었다. 거베라에서는 아메리카잎굴파리와 점박이응애, 담배거세미나방을 포함한 8과 8속 10종이, 글라디올러스에서는 명주달팽이와 민달팽이, 들민달팽이를 포함하여 6과 7속 8종이, 국화에서는 민달팽이와 꽃노랑총채벌레를 포함한 10과 13속 14종의 해충이 확인되었다. Insect pests were surveyed on the major vegetable and floricultural crops in Gyeongnam province in 1996. In addition, some other important animal pests were included in this survey. Ten species of 8 genera in 7 families including Thrips palmi and Frankliniella occidentalis were found from cucumber; 4 species of 4 genera in 4 families including Bourletiella hortensis from onion; 15 species of 14 genera in 11 families including Plutella xylostella and Spodoptera litura from Chinese cabbage; 10 species of 8 genera in 8 families including Liriomyza trifolii, Tetranychus urticae and S. litura from gerbera; 6 species of 7 genera in 8 families including Acusta despecta, Incilaria contusa and Deroceras varians from gladiolus; and 14 species of 13 genera in 10 families including I. contusa and F. occidentalis from chrysanthemum.
퍼지 k-最長工程技法을 利用한 工程管理模型 開發에 關한 硏究

This paper employs fuzzy variables instead of deterministic variables for job times in a project network. A fuzzy variable has its value restricted by a possibility distribution. This paper utilizes the triangular possibility distribution which has three estimated times. That is normal, reasonable, and crash job times. This paper develops a fuzzy k-longest path algorithm, by utilizing the k-longest path algorithm. This algorithm will be useful to control the project network by considering the project completion possibility.
