An Investigation into the Multifractal Characteristics of the TAIEX Stock Exchange Index in Taiwan

Zhi-Yuan Su,Yeng-Tseng Wang 한국물리학회 2009 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.54 No.4

This paper analyzes the minute-by-minute variations of the Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) over eight years by using the box-counting multifractal spectum f(). The results reveal that the daily return R is directly correlated with the absolute value of for that day while a positive or negative sign of is related to an increasing or decreasing return, respectively The gain probability (G%) and the index increase probability (N%) attain 65 74 % when has a positive value and 8 32 % when has a negative value, but both converge toward 50 % with the number of days considered when computing the value of increases. With regard to prediction of the future index movement the results show that the sign sequences of provide a more reliable predictive performance than those of the index variation parameter . The correlation between the risk measurement parameter and the increasing or decreasing tendency of the TAIEX price index is also examined in this paper and results are opposite to those presented for the SSEC index in China thus suggesting that the phenomenon is market dependent.

Angelica sinensis Supercritical Fluid CO2 Extract Attenuates D-Galactose-Induced Liver and Kidney Impairment in Mice by Suppressing Oxidative Stress and Inflammation

        Zhi-Zhun Mo,Zhi-Xiu Lin,ZiRen Su,Lin Zheng,Hui-Lin Li,JianHui Xie,Yan-Fang Xian,Tie-Gang Yi,Shui-Qing Huang,Jian-Ping Chen 한국식품영양과학회 2018 Journal of medicinal food Vol.21 No.9

Angelica sinensis (AS, Danggui in Chinese) is an important herbal component of various traditional formulae for the management of asthenia and its tonic effects. Although AS has been shown to ameliorate cognitive damage and nerve toxicity in D-galactose (D-gal)-elicited senescent mice brain, its effects on liver and kidney injury have not yet been explored. In this work, mice were subjected to hypodermic injection with D-gal (200 mg/kg) and orally gavaged with AS (20, 40, or 80 mg/kg) once a day for 8 successive weeks. Results revealed that AS significantly improved liver and kidney function as assessed by organ index and functional parameters. In addition, AS pretreatment effectively ameliorated the histological deterioration. AS attenuated the MDA level and markedly enhanced the activities and gene expressions of antioxidative enzymes, namely Cu, Zn-SOD, CAT, and GPx. Furthermore, AS markedly inhibited the D-gal-mediated increment of expressions of inflammatory cytokines iNOS, COX-2, IκBα, p-IκBα, and p65 and promoted the IκBα expression level in both hepatic and renal tissues. In sum, AS pretreatment could effectively guard the liver and kidney of mice from D-gal-induced injury, and the underlying mechanism was deemed to be intimately related to attenuating oxidative response and inflammatory stress.

Remarkable impact of amino acids on ginsenoside transformation from fresh ginseng to red ginseng

        Zhi Liu,Xin Wen,Chong-Zhi Wang,Wei Li,Wei-Hua Huang,Juan Xia,Chang-Chun Ruan,Chun-Su Yuan 고려인삼학회 2020 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.44 No.3

Background: Amino acids are one of the major constituents in Panax ginseng, including neutral aminoacid, acidic amino acid, and basic amino acid. However, whether these amino acids play a role in ginsenosideconversion during the steaming process has not yet been elucidated. Methods: In the present study, to elucidate the role of amino acids in ginsenoside transformation fromfresh ginseng to red ginseng, an amino acids impregnation pretreatment was applied during thesteaming process at 120 C. Acidic glutamic acid and basic arginine were used for the acid impregnationtreatment during the root steaming. The ginsenosides contents, pH, browning intensity, and free aminoacids contents in untreated and amino acidetreated P. ginseng samples were determined. Results: After 2 h of steaming, the concentration of less polar ginsenosides in glutamic acidetreatedP. ginseng was significantly higher than that in untreated P. ginseng during the steaming process. However, the less polar ginsenosides in arginine-treated P. ginseng increased slightly. Meanwhile, free aminoacids contents in fresh P. ginseng, glutamic acid-treated P. ginseng, and arginine-treated P. ginsengsignificantly decreased during steaming from 0 to 2h. The pH also decreased in P. ginseng samples at hightemperatures. The pH decrease in red ginseng was closely related to the decrease in basic amino acidslevels during the steaming process. Conclusion: Amino acids can remarkably affect the acidity of P. ginseng sample by altering the pH value. Theywere the main influential factors for the ginsenoside transformation. These results are useful in elucidatingwhy andhowsteaming induces the structural change of ginsenoside in P. ginseng and also provides an effectiveand green approach to regulate the ginsenoside conversion using amino acids during the steaming process.

A Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis of Taiwan's Stock Exchange

Zhi-Yuan Su,Yeng-Tseng Wang,Hsin-Yi Huang 한국물리학회 2009 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.54 No.4

This paper presents an empirical investigation on the multifractal characteristics of the Taiwan stock exchange by analyzing the minute-by-minute fluctuations in the TAIEX (Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index) return signal. The generalized Hurst exponent, the Rnyi exponent and the multifractal spectrum of the signal are evaluated using a multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA), which is also applied in analyzing the multifractal properties of the logarithmic price increment (LPI) signals of 150 highly-capitalized Taiwanese companies. The results reveal the LPI signal of each company preserves multiscaling and multifractal phenomena. The relative contributions of the long-range temporal correlation and the non-Gaussian data fluctuations toward the multifractality of the time series are also examined. The results suggest that the non-Gaussian probability distributions exert a more dominant effect on the multifractality of TAIEX, but that long-range temporal correlations are more important for the LPI signals of share prices.

        Su-Zhi Zhang,Xu-Kai Qu,Jia-bin Sun 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.10 No.6

As the revolution of Web 2.0 technology, more and more novel service industries, such as social network, web of things and mobile internet emerge. The data of Web explosive growth is called the “big data”, which is hottest. Because of the great value of big data of Web, how to achieve the Web data and how to mine and utilize it, the two are paid attention by an increasing number of researchers. Under the big data circumstance, the Web data is characterized by huge scale, various kinds and high-speed bitstream. Therefore, we can investigate, further, the Web data mining, integration, interpretation and analysis. Simultaneously, Web data mining and integration still confront challenges consist of data scale, data variety, data timeliness and protection of privacy.

      • Polymorphisms of TERT and CLPTM1L and the Risk of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Chinese Males

        Su, Ling-Yan,Li, Xue-Lian,Shen, Li,Zhang, Yue,Zhao, Meng-Meng,Yin, Zhi-Hua,Su, Hong-Ying,Zhou, Bao-Sen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.19

Background: Telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) and cleft lip and palate trans-membrane 1 like (CLPTM1L) genes located on chromosome 5p15.33 are known to influence the susceptibility to various cancers. Here, we examined the association of TERT and CLPTM1L single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and Methods: Genotyping of TERT SNP rs2736098 and CLPTM1L SNP rs401681 was performed using TaqMan allelic discrimination assays in a case-control study of 201 HCC cases and 210 controls in a Chinese male population. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using logistic regression analyses. Results: Both the rs2736098 T allele of TERT and the rs401681 T allele of CLPTM1L were associated with a significantly increased risk of HCC (adjusted odds ratio [OR]=1.605, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.164-2.213; adjusted OR=1.399, 95%CI=1.002-1.955, respectively). Individuals carrying both TERT and CLPTM1L risk genotypes had an even higher risk of HCC (adjusted OR=4.420, 95%CI= 2.319-8.425). The TERT rs2736098 T allele was also significantly associated with the level of the HCC clinical indicator alpha-fetoprotein (P=0.026). Conclusions: Our results show that genetic variants of TERT and CLPTM1L may contribute to HCC susceptibility in Chinese males.

Ginseng berry polysaccharides on infl ammation-associated colon cancer: inhibiting T-cell differentiation, promoting apoptosis, and enhancing the effects of 5-fl uorouracil

        Chong-Zhi Wang,Lifei Hou,Jin-Yi Wan,Haiqiang Yao,Jinbin Yuan,Jinxiang Zeng,Chan Woong Park,Su Hwan Kim,Dae Bang Seo,Kwang-Soon Shin,Chun-Feng Zhang,Lina Chen,Qi-Hui Zhang,Zhi Liu,Clara Sava-Segal,Chun 고려인삼학회 2020 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.44 No.2

Background: Ginseng is a commonly used herbal medicine in treating various medical conditions. Chronic gut inflammation is a recognized factor for the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). In thisproject, Asian ginseng berry polysaccharide preparations were used to assess their effects on CRC andrelated immune regulation mechanisms. Methods: Ginseng berry polysaccharide extract (GBPE) and purified ginseng berry polysaccharideportion (GBPP) were used to evaluate their activities on human HCT-116 and HT-29 CRC cell proliferation. Interleukin-8 secretion analysis was performed on HT-29 cells. Naive CD4 cell isolation and T-helper celldifferentiation were performed and determined using flow cytometry for Th1 and Treg in addition to cellcycle and apoptotic investigation. Results: GBPE and GBPP significantly inhibited interleukin-8 secretion and cancer cell proliferation, inhibited CD4þIFN-gþ cell (Th1) differentiation, and decreased CD4þFoxP3þ cell (Treg) differentiation. Compared to the GBPE, GBPP showed more potent antiinflammatory activities on the malignant cells. This is consistent with the observation that GBPP can also inhibit Th1-cell differentiation better, suggestingthat it has an important role in antiinflammation, whereas Treg cells hinder the body’s immuneresponse against malignancies. Supported by cell cycle and apoptosis data, GBPE and GBPP, at variousdegrees, remarkably enhanced the anticancer activities of 5-fluorouracil. Conclusion: Data from this project suggested that Asian ginseng berry potentially has clinical utility inmanaging enteric inflammation and suppressing CRC through immunomodulation mechanisms.
