Lee, Somin,Ko, Jihoon,Park, Dohyun,Lee, Seung-Ryeol,Chung, Minhwan,Lee, Younggyun,Jeon, Noo Li The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 Lab on a chip Vol.18 No.18
<P>Microphysiological systems have emerged in the last decade to provide an alternative to <I>in vivo</I> models in basic science and pharmaceutical research. In the field of vascular biology, in particular, there has been a lack of a suitable <I>in vitro</I> model exhibiting a three-dimensional structure and the physiological function of vasculature integrated with organ-on-a-chip models. The rapid development of organ-on-a-chip technology is well positioned to fulfill unmet needs. Recently, functional integration of vasculature with diverse microphysiological systems has been increasing. This recent trend corresponds to emerging research interest in how the vascular system contributes to various physiological and pathological conditions. This innovative platform has undergone significant development, but adoption of this technology by end-users and researchers in biology is still a work in progress. Therefore, it is critical to focus on simplification and standardization to promote the distribution and acceptance of this technology by the end-users. In this review, we will introduce the latest developments in vascularized microphysiological systems and summarize their outlook in basic research and drug screening applications.</P>

<P>Chronic exposure to arsenic is well known as the cause of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension. To investigate the effect of arsenic on blood vessels, we examined whether arsenic affected the contraction of aortic rings in an isolated organ bath system. Treatment with arsenite, a trivalent inorganic species, increased vasoconstriction induced by phenylephrine or serotonin in a concentration-dependent manner. Among the arsenic species tested—arsenite, pentavalent inorganic species (arsenate), monomethylarsonic acid (MMAV), and dimethylarsinic acid (DMAV)—arsenite was the most potent. Similar effects were also observed in aortic rings without endothelium, suggesting that vascular smooth muscle plays a key role in enhancing vasoconstriction induced by arsenite. This hypercontraction by arsenite was well correlated with the extent of myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation stimulated by phenylephrine. Direct Ca2+ measurement using fura-2 dye in aortic strips revealed that arsenite enhanced vasoconstriction induced by high K+ without concomitant increase in intracellular Ca2+ elevation, suggesting that, rather than direct Ca2+ elevation, Ca2+ sensitization may be a major contributor to the enhanced vasoconstriction by arsenite. Consistent with these <I>in vitro</I> results, 2-hr pretreatment of 1.0 mg/kg intravenous arsenite augmented phenylephrine-induced blood pressure increase in conscious rats. All these results suggest that arsenite increases agonist-induced vasoconstriction mediated by MLC phosphorylation in smooth muscles and that calcium sensitization is one of the key mechanisms for the hypercontraction induced by arsenite in blood vessels.</P>

This paper describes the environmental test results on the turboprop engine installed in the aircraft under various environmental test conditions such as rainfall, humidity, high temperature and low temperature conditions. The starting and performance characteristics of the engine installed in the aircraft for the environmental conditions were analyzed and compared with the ground engine test results for the ISA (International Standard Atmosphere) condition.

A large number of disorders have been associated with proliferation of enteric microorganisms in the small intestine. Billroth II partial gastrectomy is one of the factors that can develop bacterial overgrowth of small intestine. This bacterial overgrowth can lead to malabsorption or disturbed metabolism of intestinal contents. Many cases of bacterial overgrowth after partial gastrectomy have been reported in America and European literature. However, no case has been reported in Korea. Here, we describe a 44-year-old male patient with malabsorption who compalined of abdominal discomfort and peripheral edema. He had a history of Billroth II operation due to perforated gastric ulcer which had occurred 10 years before visiting our hospital. Jejunal biopsy was performed for differential diagnosis. In the aspirated jejunal fluid culture, $gt;10^5 organisms/mL were observed. After sensitivity based antibiotics therapy, clinical improvement was observed and he recovered well.

<P>We report on the nanostructures of organic small-molecule pentacene crystals that have been vapor-deposited onto the capillary wave surfaces of thin liquid films. The characteristic lateral length of the capillary wave surface or the capillary length can be controlled by changing the thickness of the liquid films and, thus, the van der Waals interaction with the substrate. We find that the morphology of the organic crystals gradually varies from fractals to compact islands as the liquid film thickness increases. The square of average distance between organic crystal grains was also found to be proportional to the liquid film thickness. We discuss the possibility that these effects are driven by capillary fluctuations at the air–liquid interface.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/langd5/2013/langd5.2013.29.issue-8/la304346a/production/images/medium/la-2012-04346a_0006.gif'></P>
Intra-operative Endoscopy 를 이용한 소장 혈관 이형성증 치험 2예

Angiodysplasia of small bowel is uncommon and frequently undiagnosed and presents a taxing surgical problem. It is usually diagnosed for unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding. For the surgeon, the main technical problem is that the lesion is impalpable, and invisible to the naked eye, so it usually cannot be identified unless bleeds actively at the time of surgery. Arteriography gives a little information about wax and wane pattern of bleeding in the lesion. Endoscopy is often unfruitful because the majority of lesions are submucosal and rarely exceed a few millimeters in diameter. Transillumination of the intestinal wall from inside of the lumen to the outside in a dark room can define the precise vascular anatomy of the wall. The delicate lesion of the angiodysplasia can be identified by this transillumination method. We described a simple intraoperstive endoscopic translllumination technique used successfully to identify an angiodysplasia in the small bovwel prior to the bowel resecion. This report summarized our experience and review of literature.
