        Korean Dative and Locative Cases:

        YoungSik, Choi. 2015. Korean Dative and Locative Cases: Postposition or Morphological Case Marker. Studies in Modern Grammar 83, 1-24. I propose that the dative and locative case particles are not postpositions but morphological case markers, quite in contrast to the common view in the literature (Yang 1972, Cho and Sells 1995, and Suh 2013 among many others). I will show the difference between the nominative and the accusative and the dative and the locative in case drop, case stacking, and case spreading is attributed to the fact that the dative case and the locative case are inherent case, as compared with the nominative and the accusative, which are structural case par excellence. The present proposal has a nontrivial implication regarding the other case particles typically argued as postpositions in Korean.

      • Rat의 복강내에 투여한 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid 제형이 장기에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        For more effective intraperitoneal chemotherapy, the authers made 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid composite disks(FU-PGA disks) with 5-fluorouracil and polyglycolic acid, a biodegradable polymer. We inserted the FU-PGA disk into the peritoneal cavites of Sprague-Dawley male rats, the control and three experimental groups; one FU-PGA disk insert group(300mg/kg), two FU-PGA disk insert group(600mg/kg), and three FU-PGA disk insert group(900mg/kg). The control group received a similar number of PGA disk inserts. A pharmacokinetic study was performed to measure the 5-fluorouracil concentration in the peritoneal fluid, blood, and tissues(liver, kidney and heart) at 24 hours, 72hours and 168 hours after insertion of the FU-PGA disk. Light and electron microscopic studies were done. The results were as follows: 1) The number of white blood cells and platelets decreased after FU-PGA insertion. The degree was proportional to the duration and amounts inserted. The change in the number of red blood cells varied slightly. 2) Light microscopically, slight changes were noted at 168 hours in the 3 disk insert group (900mg/kg). Mild fatty change and hepatocyte degeneration around the central veins of the liver were noted, with vacuolar degeneration in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney. 3) Electron microscopically,the liver showed focal increases of lipid droplets in the hepatocytes, and irregular nuclear membrane with focal nucleolar segregation of the fibrillar and granular elements. Also the double membranous structure of the hepatocytes and Kupffer cells was widened with bleb formation. The kidney showed wide separation of the nuclear double membrane in the proximal convoluted tubular cells and mesangial cells, with vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the proximal convoluted tubular cells, at 72 hours and 168 hours in the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. The heart showed focal loss of cristae,vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. In conclusion, despite the large amont of FU-PGA inserted, the histopathological changes in the liver, kidney and heart were slight, and consonant with the very low amount of 5-fluorouracil concentrations detected in the liver, kidney and heart. The above results suggest that the FU-PGA composite can serve as a new device for releasing drugs in a controlled manner and easily targeted to intraperitoneal organs. This device can improve the efficacy of intraperitoneal chemotherapy for gastric cancer.

        Development of a Reduction Algorithm of GEO Satellite Optical Observation Data for Optical Wide Field Patrol (OWL)

        An algorithm to automatically extract coordinate and time information from optical observation data of geostationary orbit satellites (GEO satellites) or geosynchronous orbit satellites (GOS satellites) is developed. The optical wide-field patrol system is capable of automatic observation using a pre-arranged schedule. Therefore, if this type of automatic analysis algorithm is available, daily unmanned monitoring of GEO satellites can be possible. For data acquisition for development, the COMS1 satellite was observed with 1-s exposure time and 1-m interval. The images were grouped and processed in terms of “action”, and each action was composed of six or nine successive images. First, a reference image with the best quality in one action was selected. Next, the rest of the images in the action were geometrically transformed to fit in the horizontal coordinate system (expressed in azimuthal angle and elevation) of the reference image. Then, these images were median-combined to retain only the possible non-moving GEO candidates. By reverting the coordinate transformation of the positions of these GEO satellite candidates, the final coordinates could be calculated.

        To evaluate the in-vivo effects of mitomycin-C-polyglycolic acid composite(MMC-PGA) the disk: shaped composite were implanted into the peritoneal cavity of the Sprague-Dawley rats. The pathologic changes were examined at various time points up to 12 weeks. Initially the soft tissue around the inserted disks showed capillary congestion at 3 days. Inflammatory infiltrates with foreign body giant cells appeared from the 2nd week and reached peak response at 6-8 weeks. These reaction diminished prominently at 12 weeks. No specific pathologic change was found in the liver, the kidneys, and the heart. The above results suggest that the MMC-PGA composite can serve as a new device for intraperitoneal chemotherapy of various types of cancers.

        산업자재용 폴리에스터 섬유의 강도 향상에 관한 연구

        In this work, effects of total draw ratio change on the mechanical properties of polyester fibers were studied. The process parameter was a total draw ratio and the draw ratios that were used ranged from 6.6 to 7.0. Tensile properties are determined from the tensile tester, and crystallite parameters from the density measurement and X-ray diffraction were discussed with the different total draw ratios. The tenacity, young's modulus and crystallinity were increased to 10.6 g/d, 123.2 g/d and 42.1%, respectively, with increase in the total draw ratio. The relations between total draw ratio and mechanical properties of high tenacity polyester fiber were discussed.

        The objective of this study is to test for thermal conductivity of architecture insulation materials in domestic buildings with environmental condition change. In study, we measured change of thermal conductivity with test temperature change, long-time leaving and change of contained water rate. For long-time leaving test, the specimens of building insulation materials were kept in test conditions, which were influenced by the outside environment. The results of the study show 1) the contained water rate of artificial mineral fiber insulations was big for others, 2) thermal conductivity rose as test temperature(median) grew up and 3) the extruding insulations and hardened Urethane foam changed thermal conductivity with environmental condition and time elapse.

      • 위절제술 후 발생하는 당뇨병의 원인과 병태생리에 관한 연구

        Recently several cases of diabetes were found after undergoing gastrectomy. The loss of stomach profoundly affects glucose metabolism which may lead to the development of diabetes in a certain group of patients, particularly those with diabetic risk factors such as family history. obesity, and other insulin resistance states. The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in the plasma lipids and glucose metabolism and the risk factors of diabetes in patients who are planned to undergo gastrectomy so that it may help for the treatment and prevention of gastrectomy-related diabetes. The non-diabetic patients who admitted to Kosin Medical Center for gastrectomy were prospectively studied since March 1, 1995. They were divided into 2 groups; those with family history of diabetes, overweight, obesity, or impaired glucose tolerance on oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) (group Ⅰ, n=5) and those without (group Ⅱ, n=5). The ability to control blood glucose was evaluated by measuring blood glucose, insulin, C-peptide and glucagon during OGTT which was performed before and 1 month after gastrectomy. Ten out of 34 patients who entered the study were followed at 1 month after gastrectomy. Body weight decreased from 58.1±9.7 kg to 54.9±7.3 kg and values of other parameters of nutritional status also decreased. The levels of blood glucose, insulin, C-peptide, and glucagon generally increased at 0, 60, and 120 minutes during postoperative OGTT as compared to those levels during preoperative OGTT. The blood glucose level increased from 147.6±31.5 to 178.2±45.7 mg/dl at 60 min. (p=0.07) and the insulin level increased from 38.1±27.0 uU/ml to 113.6±96.1 uU/ml at 60 min. (p=0.05). In preoperative OGTT the insulin level was higher at 60 min. and at 120 min. in group I than in group Ⅱ (56.7±23.9 uU/ml vs. 19.4±11.6 uU/ml, p=0.03, 36.1±21.4 uU/ml vs. 8.51±6.9 uU/ml, p=0.03, respectively). Most patient took three meals a day and highly concentrated carbohydrate such as honey between meals. Impaired glucose tolerance developed postoperatively in one woman of overweight group but none of normal weight group. The development of impaired glucose tolerance in one of 3 overweighted women and abnormal glucose metabolism in general after gastrectomy suggests that postoperative risk of development of impaired glucose tolerance be substantial, particularly in patients with diabetic risk factors such as obesity. To prevent the development of postoperative abnormal glucose metabolism adequate weight control before operation, preferably from young age, and postoperative measures to decrease excessive insulin secretion and hence insulin resistance, such as frequent small meals which consist of low carbohydrate and increased mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acid are suggested.
