Storage tanks have two types of function. One is to maximize the disinfection capability by inducing plug flow, and the other is to regulate the water quality by mixing flow completely. Hence the mixing indices to represent the flow characteristics in tanks are required to identify if the tank performs its function well. As a result of evaluating the existing indices with fluoride-tracer and dye tests, T_10/T and T_90/T_10 proved relatively good indices. However, T_10/T showed some limits to representing the characteristic of residence time distribution, and T_90/T_10 had too wide range of the values to be easily used for assessing the flow characteristics. An index proposed in this study can properly represent both the completely mixed and plug flows as well as short-circuit flow, and can be used as an index of assessing mixing characteristics.

As the methods of calculating deflection of structures, various ordinary differential equations, that is, the Unit load method, the Moment area method, and Castigliano's theorm have been used. But here the anothers applied Laplace tranform to in the deflection analyses of the propped cantilever beams. The result shows the deflections calculated by Laplace transform are the same values those from ordinary solutions, and are better than the others in efficiency.

A study was undertaken to evaluate the efficiency of the sytobrush compared with the cotton swab for obtaining cells from the uterine cervix. In 300 patients, the cytobrush technique was employed and in control 300 patients was smeared by the cotton swab. In 12 out of 300 patients(4%) endocervical cells were found on the cotton swab technique. A total of 252 out of 300 cytobrush sampler specimen(84%) contained endocervical cells. With the X²method for statistical comparison, the difference in endocervical cell yield between the cotton swab and the cytobrush sampler was significantly different(p<0.01). This was particularly true in older patients. We conclude from study that the cytobrush sampler is of value for obtaining as adequate cervical cytologic specimen.

八珍湯과 加味八珍湯이 抗Allergy와 免疫反應에 미치는 影響

In order to study was anti-allergic effects of Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang, the vascular permeability response induced intradermal histamine & serotonin, homologous PCA and contact dermatitis by picryl chlolide were observed, and to study the immune response, delayed type hypersensitivity, hemagglutinin titer, hemolysin titer, rosette forming cells, phagocytic activity for immune response, lymphocyte transformation, productivity of Interleukin-2 in immune depressed mice by methotrexate were measured. The results were obtained as follows : 1. The vascular permealbility responses to intradermal histamine and serotonin were significantly decreased as compared with control group in Gamipaljin-tang group. 2. In the homologous PCA, Gamipaljin-tang group was revealed significant decrease as compared with control group. 3. In the delayed type hypersensitivity responses to Picryl Chloride, Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang groups were proved significant inhibitory effect as compared with control group. 4. Body weight was significantly increased as compared with control group in Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang groups. 5. Delayed type hypersensitivity was significantly increased as compared with control group in Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang groups. 6. Hemagglutinin titer was significantly increased as compared with control group in Paljin-tang group. 7. Hemolysin titer was significantly increased as compared with control group in Paljin-tang group. 8. Rosette forming cells was significantly increased as compared with control group in Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang groups. 9. Phagocytic activity for immune response was slightly increased in Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang groups without significance as compared with control group. 10. Lymphocyte transformation was significantly increased as compared with control group in Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang groups. 11. Productivity of Interleukin-2 was significantly increased as compared with control group in Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang groups. According to the above results, it could be suggested that Paljin-tang and Gamipaljin-tang have anti-allergic and enhance immunity.

알루미늄 주방용기 제조공장에서 발생한 열사병 1례

An 18-year-old man suffered heat stroke after continuous working for 26 hours on his first day in an aluminium utensil plant in August 1998. His job was to put a pressed aluminium utensil on the conveyer before the process of spray painting. The ranges of temperature and relative humidity measured at the local weather-station during the patient's working period were 23.6-30.2℃, 49-87% respectively. On arrival the patient was comatose and suffered generalized seizure three times. His rectal temperature was 41.2℃, blood pressure was 90/60 mmHg, pulse was 148 beats/minute and respiratory rate was 28 times/minute. The serum level of AST was 421 IU/L, ALT was 205 IU/L, LDH was 1.160 IU/L, myoglobin was higher than 500 ng/mL, CK was higher than 2,000 IU/L. He recovered consciousness 7th day of admission and discharged after 2 months but cerebellar dysarthria was remained. The patient felt himself several prodromal symptoms of heat stroke and he showed awkward behavior considered to be drowsiness, but the patient and his co-workers neglected them. This case report shows that heat stroke can be occurred tin a condition that ambient temperature, humidity, and working load are not extreme. A thorough health education and management concerned with guidelines on salt and water intake, detection of early symptoms of heat-related illness, prompt body cooling and rapid transportation to a hospital is necessary.

학업우수 초등학생 자녀를 둔 어머니의 진로지도 경험에 관한 질적 연구

본 연구는 학업우수 초등학생 자녀를 둔 어머니의 진로지도 경험을 한국의 사회·문화적 맥락에서 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울지역에 살고 있는 초등학교 6학년인 학업우수아의 어머니 9명을 심층면담하고, 질적 연구 방법으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 107개의 개념과 44개의 하위 범주, 그리고 14개의 범주가 도출되었다. 어머니들의 진로지도 경험을 포괄하는 핵심범주로는 '자녀의 성취를 위해 자녀의 특성을 존중하고 자녀의 자율성을 키우면서 자신이 바람직하다고 여기는 방향으로 이끌어감'으로 밝혀졌다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 학업우수 초등학생 자녀를 둔 어머니의 진로지도 경험의 실체를 논의하였으며, 부모를 대상으로 한 진로교육프로그램의 필요성과 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 하였다. This study examined the experience about career guidance of mother who has a academically talented child in Korea. Nine mothers were interviewed and the interview data were analyzed based on the Qualitative Research Method. Result has107 concepts, 44 subcategories and 14 categories. The core category is "The mothers consider their children's characteristics for the children's accomplishment and foster children's self-control and lead their children to desirable object the mothers view".Implications of the results and suggestions for future research are discussed.
