Fetal development of the minor lung segment
Shinichi Abe,Masahito Yamamoto,Taku Noguchi,Toshihito Yoshimoto,Hideaki Kinoshita,Satoru Matsunaga,Gen Murakami,Jose Francisco Rodrí,guez Vá,zquez3 대한해부학회 2014 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.47 No.1
The mediobasal segment (S7) of the right lung has been considered to correspond to the cardiac lobe generally seen in mammals. To investigate fetal development of the right mediobasal segmental bronchus (B7), we examined paraffinembedded serial sections of 15 embrynic and fetal lungs at 7-8 weeks (serial sections) as well as semiserial sections of 8 fetuses at 15-18 weeks (semiserial sections). All of the smaller specimens did not contain B7, but 2 of the 8 larger specimens carried B7: one was found in the immediately anterior side of the inferior pulmonary vein, while in the other, the subdivisions (B7a, B7b) were overriding the vein. Although the incidence might be underestimated because of observations using semiserial sections, the B7 was most likely to develop secondarily during a period from 8 to 15 weeks. Fetal topographical changes (mainly, the descent) of the middle lobe and the inferior pulmonary vein might relate with the secondarily budding of B7. The present result does not reduce a clinical relevance of B7 as a segmental bronchus of the lung segment system.

Objective-DISC1 gene is one of the main candidate genes for schizophrenia since it has been associated to the illness in several populations. Moreover, variations in several DISC1 polymorphisms, and in particular Ser704Cys SNP, have been associated in schizophrenic patients to structural and functional modifications in two brain areas (pre-frontal cortex and hippocampus) that play a central role in the genesis of psychotic symptoms. This study tested the association between Ser704Cys DISC1 polymorphism and the clinical onset of psychosis. Methods-Two hundred and thirteen Caucasian drug-naïve patients experiencing a first episode of non-affective psychosis were genotyped for rs821616 (Ser704Cys) SNP of the DISC1 gene. The clinical severity of the illness was assessed using SAPS and SANS scales. Other clinical and socio-demographic variables were recorded to rule out possible confounding effects. Results-Patients homozygous for the Ser allele of the Ser704Cys DISC1 SNP had significantly (p<0.05) higher rates at the positive symptoms dimension (SAPS-SANS scales) and hallucinations item, compared to Cys carriers. Conclusion-DISC1 gene variations may modulate the clinical severity of the psychosis at the onset of the disorder.
Rapid physicochemical characterization of innovative fucoidan/ fructan powders by ATR–FTIR
Gerardo Espinosa-Vela´zquez,Ana Mayela Ramos-de-la-Pen˜a,Julio Montanez,Juan Carlos Contreras-Esquivel 한국식품과학회 2018 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.27 No.2
Functional food has been highly demanded lately because of its benefits in counteracting diseases. Fucoidan and agave fructan are ingredients that enhance the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut (prebiotics). This mixture has great potential to develop innovative products but it has never been explored before. Because of fucoidan is more expensive than agave fructan, the innovative proposed mixture is vulnerable to adulteration. This research was aimed to assess the accuracy of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflectance (ATR–FTIR) coupled with chemometrics to identify and predict concentration of both polysaccharides in powder mixtures (0–100%). Absorption bands at 1240–1255 and 836–840 cm-1 were attributed to fucoidan and a strong peak at * 936 cm-1 confirmed the fructan presence. Peak areas were best fitted into linear models (R2 adj C 0.92, RMSE B 3.54%). This achievement may be useful to certificate ingredients contained in fucoidan– fructan mixtures, preventing adulteration.

Worldwide, the most highly consumed meat is of porcine origin. The production and distribution of swine meat are affected by diverse health matters, such as influenza and diarrhea, which cause head losses and require the use of antibiotics and other drugs in hog farms. To stimulate newborn piglet immune responses and increase resistance to infections, we developed a spray-drying technique to produce dried swine dialyzable spleen extract (sDSE), an immunomodulator. Based on the size-exclusion ultra performance liquid chromatography quantitative analysis, it was possible to recover up to 58% of the product after the drying process. The biological activity of orally administered dried sDSE increased mouse survival and induced cytokine production in a herpes infection model.
THE UNAM-KIAS CATALOG OF ISOLATED GALAXIES
Herná,ndez-Toledo, H. M.,Vá,zquez-Mata, J. A.,Martí,nez-Vá,zquez, L. A.,Choi, Yun-Young,Park, Changbom American Institute of Physics 2010 The Astronomical journal Vol.139 No.6
<P>A new catalog of isolated galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 5 (SDSS DR5) is presented. A total of 1520 isolated galaxies were found in 1.4 sr of sky. The selection criteria in this UNAM-KIAS catalog are a variation on the criteria developed by Karachentseva, including full redshift information. Through an image processing pipeline that takes advantage of the high-resolution (~0<img entity='farcs' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/icons/Entities/farcs.gif' ALT='farcs' ALIGN='BOTTOM' />4 pixel–1) and high dynamic range of the SDSS images, a uniform g-band morphological classification for all these galaxies is presented. We identify 80% (Sa-Sm) spirals (50% later than Sbc types) on one hand, and a scarce population of early-type E (6.5%) and S0 (8%) galaxies amounting to 14.5% on the other hand. This magnitude-limited catalog is ~80% complete at 16.5, 15.6, 15.2, 14.6, and 14.4 mag in the ugriz bands, respectively. Some representative physical properties including SDSS magnitudes and color distributions, color-color diagrams, absolute magnitude-color, and concentration-color diagrams as a function of morphological type are presented. The UNAM-KIAS Morphological Atlas is also released along with this paper. For each galaxy of a type later than Sa, a mosaic is presented that includes (1) a g-band logarithmic image, (2) a g-band filtered-enhanced image where a Gaussian kernel of various sizes was applied, and (3) a red giant branch color image from the SDSS database. For E/S0/Sa galaxies, in addition to the images in (1), (2), and (3), plots of r-band surface brightness and geometric profiles (ellipticity ε, position angle PA, and A4/B4 coefficients of the Fourier series expansions of deviations of a pure ellipse) are provided. The size of the sample, the redshift completeness, the availability of high-quality multicolor photometric data and detailed morphological and spectroscopic information make the UNAM-KIAS catalog of isolated galaxies a suitable sample to address important issues such as (1) comparative studies of environmental effects, (2) constraining the currently competing scenarios of galaxy formation and evolution, (3) the nature and evolution of elliptical and spiral galaxies in the field, (4) the spectral properties of a statistically significant number of isolated galaxies and their evolution as a function of redshift, and (5) the fraction of active galactic nuclei in isolated environments, among other important topics. The optimization and estimation of new structural parameters as well as important information to complement existing ones in other wavelengths is being carried out.</P>
Modeling, Design and Vision-Based Control of a Low-Cost Electric Power Wheelchair Prototype
Ramiro Velá,zquez,Abraham Camacho,Benjamí,n Romero 동국대학교 정보융합기술원 2009 International Journal of Assistive Robotics and Sy Vol.10 No.3
This paper presents the design, modeling, control and experimental platform of a low-cost intelligent wheelchair for the motor-disabled. The first prototype developed is an electric power wheelchair which cost is one third of the commercially available ones and is capable of both manual and autonomous operation. Manual operation relies on a joystick and is intended for people that, in spite of their disability, are well capable of maneuvering the wheelchair. Autonomous operation relies on a mobile robotics inspired computer vision system to navigate through corridors, halls, indoors/outdoors, among other structured environments and is indented for the severely impaired, such as the tetraplegics. Besides from being an affordable-to-everyone device, its current application is museum guidance: the wheelchair guides the user among the museum's rooms while providing audio information.
Deformations of flows from type IIB supergravity
Ahn, Changhyun,V?zquez-Poritz, Justin F Institute of Physics 2006 Classical and quantum gravity Vol.23 No.10
<P>We consider supersymmetric <I>SL</I>(3, <I>R</I>)-deformations of various type IIB supergravity backgrounds which exhibit flows away from an asymptotically locally AdS5 ? <I>S</I>5 fixed point. This includes the gravity dual of the Coulomb branch of <img SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0264-9381/23/10/024/cqg215119ieqn1.gif' ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='{\cal N}=1 '/> super-Yang–Mills theory, for which the deformed superpotential is known. We also consider the gravity duals of field theories which live on various curved backgrounds, such as Minkowski2 ? <I>H</I>2, AdS3 ? <I>S</I>1 and <B>R</B> ? <I>S</I>3. Some of the deformed theories flow from a four-dimensional <img SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0264-9381/23/10/024/cqg215119ieqn2.gif' ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='{\cal N}=1 '/> superconformal UV fixed point to a two-dimensional (2, 2) superconformal IR fixed point. We study nonsupersymmetric generalizations of the deformations of the above Coulomb branch flows.</P>
