Effects of D-003 on Hepatic Drug-Metabolizing Enzyme Activities in Rats

        Rafael G?ez,Idania Rodeiro,Jorge Gonzalez,Haydee Garcia 한국식품영양과학회 2004 Journal of medicinal food Vol.7 No.4

D-003 is a mixture of very-long-chain aliphatic acids with cholesterol-lowering and concomitant anti-plateleteffects. The microsomal cytochrome P-450 system comprises a superfamily of proteins present in hepatic and extrahepatictissues that is responsible for the metabolism of many drugs. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects ofD-003 on in vivodrug-metabolizing hepatic enzymes. Two experimental series (n . 6 animals/group) were performed. In thefirst series rats were randomly distributed in one control and two groups treated with D-003 at 1,000 and 2,000 mg/kg for 14days. In the second one they were distributed in one control and three groups treated with D-003 (250, 500, and 1,000 mg/kg)for 6 months. All treatments were orally administered by gastric gavage. Control rats were orally treated only with acaciagum/water vehicle. The content of microsomal P-450, b5 cytochromes, total sulfhydryl groups, nonprotein sulfhydryl groups, and protein-bound sulfhydryl groups as well as the activities of NADPH cytochrome c reductase, aminopyrine demethylase, dimethylnitrosamine N-demethylase, 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylation, 7-pentoxyresorufin O-depentylation, and cytosolic glu-tathione S-transferase were assessed. D-003 administered up to 2,000 mg/kg or 1,000 mg/kg during 14 days or 6 months didnot affect the activities of the hepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes investigated. It is concluded that D-003 is not metabolizedby the liver cytochrome system and that potential risk derived from drug-to-drug interactions between D-003 and concomi-tant drugs appears to be low.

      • Ethnobotanical survey of herbs used in the preservation of food products in Fez, Morocco

Ez zoubi Yassine,Lairini Sanae,El Amrani Soukaina,El-Akhal Fouad,Farah Abdellah,Bouslamti Rabia,El Ouali Lalami Abdelhakim 한국식품연구원 2022 Journal of Ethnic Foods Vol.9 No.-

Morocco has a rich plant biodiversity and an ancient ethnobotanical knowledge influenced by the ethnic diversity of the Moroccan population. This heritage has been preserved from generation to generation by traditional herbalists. In this study, data were collected via a survey of herbalists based on the direct interview technique. Questions addressed the herbalists’ age and education level as well as the vernacular names and parts of the plants used for the preservation of food. The species use value was used to identify the most important species recommended by herbalists. The average age of the participants was 52.55 years, and the illiteracy rate was 46%. A total of 32 plant species representing 16 families were identified as being used in the preservation of various food products. The most important family was Lamiaceae, followed by Apiaceae and Rosaceae. The most frequently used parts of the plant were the leaves (26.37%), followed by the fruit (24.7%), and the whole plant (12.7%). The highest use values were recorded for Citrus limon (0.16), Thymus vulgaris (0.14), Rosmarinus officinalis (0.12), Artemisia herba alba (0.11) and Lavandula dentata (0.1). Meat, vegetables and fish were the most commonly preserved food products. This ethnobotanical survey on the preservation of food products is the first of its kind conducted in Morocco and has implications for meeting consumer demands and understanding the potential uses of plants in the preservation of food products.

Voice Recognition Systems Toward a Universal Language

Di´ez-Carrera, Carmen,Gonza´lez-Ruiz, Carlos Institute for University Language Sejong Instituti 2003 Journal of Universal Language Vol.4 No.2

An analysis of the major achievements of the last quarter of a century (means of transport and of communication, microelectronics, the conquest of Space, the globalisation of Society, computer networks, blocks of countries, the proliferation of International organisms and so on) would seem to suggest the need for a scientific study into the possibilities of a universal language. A real need exists, every day more pronounced and we consider that this is the right time for this investigation. As part of this project a discussion of possible alternative solutions is proposed (the use of a multi-lingual approach, English, multilingual intercompression, an international auxiliary language, "manufactured" languages, automatic translation, natural language, among others). There is also a definition of the theoretical specifications which this language should meet, taking into account all the current needs and the sectors involved (voice recognition, automatic translation, operative systems, programming languages, documentation, simple cross-cultural learning). The idea is based on a dual focus: person-to-person communication and person-to-machine communication. In order to achieve this double objective we shall select a set of universal sounds and phonemes which are common and understood by all people. The selection of this set of universal sounds and phonemes will e such that it will be easy to undertake a spectral discrimination. The phonetic, lexical and grammatical organization of the language will be established according to distinct levels of difficulty. Written forms will be expressed making use of the most appropriate phonetic transcription in each language. Design and development will be based on the Internet as a platform for investigation, cooperation and the consensus of hundreds of experts and a strategy is proposed for learning and spreading the language.

El rito del sacrificio en Nuestros dioses, texto picto´rico de Saturnino Herra´n

        Meji´a Nu´n~ez, Mari´a Guadalupe 서울大學校 스페인中南美硏究所 2007 이베로아메리카硏究 Vol.18 No.-

Antioxidant Capacity of Crude Extracts from Clones of Banana and Plane Species

        Antonio J. Rodriguez-Malaver,Elizabeth M. Perez-P?ez,Nayalet Padilla,Gerardo Medina-Ram?ez,Juan Davila 한국식품영양과학회 2006 Journal of medicinal food Vol.9 No.4

Banana and plane are the most important fruits in world trade, behind citric plants. In this work we studiedthe antioxidant capacity of banana and plane varieties of fruits obtained from interspecies crossed varieties of Musa acumi-nataand Musa balbisiana, named Harton plane, Cavendish banana, and Manzano banana. With this purpose we evaluatedbanana and plane crude extracts using the ferrous ion oxidation with xylenol orange method, the thiobarbituric acid method, determination of antioxidant activity, and effect on superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical and the radicals generated by ul-traviolet light. The experiments showed that all extracts have the capacity to decrease the concentrations of lipid hydroper-oxides and malondialdehyde, produced in the lipid peroxidation process, in a manner comparable to that of other widely stud-ied antioxidants like melatonin and vitamin E. Moreover, all extracts had the capacity to inhibit the generation of superoxideanion, hydroxyl radical, and the radicals generated by ultraviolet light. When antioxidant activity was calculated, a value wasfound that was equivalent to a concentration of uric acid between 0.20 and 0.30 mM at the highest concentration of extractused, with uric acid being a potent antioxidant at 1 mM.

      • Thermally rearranged polybenzoxazoles made from poly(<i>ortho</i>-hydroxyamide)s. Characterization and evaluation as gas separation membranes

        ,ez, Blanca,Cuadrado, Purificació,n,Marcos-Ferná,ndez, Á,ngel,de la Campa, José,G.,Tena, Alberto,Prá,danos, Pedro,Palacio, Laura,Lee, Young Moo,Alvarez, Cristina Elsevier 2018 Reactive & functional polymers Vol.127 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Two series of aromatic poly(<I>ortho</I>-hydroxyamide)s (poly(<I>o</I>-hydroxyamide)s, HPAs) were prepared by reaction of two diamines, 2,2-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) propane (APA) and 2,2-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane (APAF), with four aromatic diacid chlorides; terephthaloyl dichloride (TPC), isophthaloyl dichloride (IPC), 2,2-bis[4-chlorocarbonylphenyl)hexafluoropropane (6FC) and 4,4′-sulfonyldibenzoyl dichloride (DBSC). Amorphous HPAs with high molecular weights (inherent viscosities higher than 0.5 dL/g) and relatively high glass transition temperatures (220–280 °C) were obtained. Dense membranes of HPAs were able to undergo a thermal rearrangement (TR) process to polybenzoxazoles (β-TR-PBOs) heating at moderate temperatures (between 250 and 375 °C), and their complete conversion was reached at a temperature below 375 °C, depending on the <I>o</I>-hydroxy diamine moiety, APA and APAF. The β-TR-PBOs films derived from APAF showed a higher thermal stability and higher Tg than those from APA. Gas separation properties of TR-PBOs membranes were superior to those of their poly(<I>o</I>-hydroxyamide) precursors, particularly for the following gas pairs: O2/N2, CO2/CH4, He/CH4 and He/CO2.</P>
