This comparative study is based on three mail surveyed data sets from the US. Europe and Korea, each of which has 130, 129 and 161 manufacturers, respectively. The only common manufacturing practice factor, appeared to be effective across three regions for improving factory productivity, was focussed on streamlining process flow. While the European manufacturers emphasized such innovative productivity improvement practices as process innovation. automation and new product development, the US and Korean counterparts focussed on workfoce management practices for their productivity improvement, such as job enlargement and enrichment, employee empowerment and motivation.

Background: Thioredoxin peroxidase(TPX) is a kind of recently discovered antioxidant enzyme which react as rapid hydrogen ion donor for the removal of hydroperoxide. The action and distribution of the TPX was poorly understood in the human diseases. This experiments were designed for the study about the distribution of the TPX in the chronic granulomatous inflammation and about the correlation between the expression of TPX and the site of inflammation, histological activities of tuberculous inflammation or existence of mycobacterium in the inflammatory foci. Methods: The immunohistochemical stains were performed for the localization of the TPX-2 in the epithelioid cells, giant cells and lymphocytes in the chronic granulomatous inflammation. The tissue sections were obtained from the paraffin blocks of the 54 cases of tuberculosis (lung 21 cases, lymph node 12 cases, bone and soft tissue 12 cases, kidney 9 cases; active 33 cases, inactive 21 cases by the histologic classification; presence of mycobacterium 15 cases, no mycobacterium 39 cases by PCR reaction). Results: The expression of TPX-2 was 16.7% in the giant cells, 27.8% in the epithelioid cells and 100% in the lymphocytes of tuberculous inflammations. The expression of TPX-2 in the giant cells and epithelioid cells of the tuberculosis were 28.6% and 57.1% of the pulmonary tuberculosis; 33.3% in each cells of the renal tuberculosis; 0% in each cells of the lymph node or bone and soft tissue tuberculosis. The expression of TPX-2 in the giant cells and epithelioid cells were 9.1% in each cells of the active tuberculosis and were 28.6% and 57.1% in each cells of the inactive tuberculosis by histologic classification. The expression of TPX-2 in the giant cells and epithelioid cells was 40% in each cells of tuberculosis which mycobacteria were detected and the expression of TPX-2 was 7.7% and 23.1% in each cells which mycobacteria were not detected by PCR reaction in the paraffin embedded tissue. Conclusions: The above results were summarized that the TPX-2 in the giant cells and epithelioid cells were more frequently expressed in the inactive tuberculosis than in the active tuberculosis. These results suggest that the TPX-2 is a kind of regulating or suppressing factors in the activity of the tuberculosis.

The purpose of this study is to identify what factors are to be effective for productivity improvement and to make some practical suggestions thereos. The analysis of 162 survey questionares, collected from the nation-wide large manufacturing companies in Korea, shows that more steamlined process flow, less fluctuation in production schedules and employment, proportionately more input fed from other factories, and lower inventory level appear to be most significant factors affecting factory productivity in Korea.

Alcohol, water, ether, and petroleum ether extracts of 75 species Korean medicinal plants have been tested for their antitumor activity. Most of the extracts had slight activity only. Some extracts had more pronounced acitivity. For antitumor activity, ddD-Mice of weighing 18-25g were used. 0.2 ml of cell suspension in 0.9% saline-glucose solution containing 10?? ascites tumor cells of either Sarcoma 180, Ehrlich carcinoma was transplanted intraperitoneally into each mouse. The control group animals in a given experiment consisted of 14 mices and the experimental group, 7 mices. The materials to be tested were administered once a day by intraperitoneal injection, commencing the day after tumor transplantation until the test animal died, and then the control group was received only 0.5% carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC). The mean survival time of each group was calculated according to the formula indicated in the protocols of the Cancer Chemotherapy National Service Center. In the antitumor activity screening, extracts had pronounced greater prolongation of survival time (50%-100%) were Aristo-lochia contorta, Lycoris radiata, Scirpus maritimus, Ficus carica, Firmiana platanifolia, Panax ginseng, Piper nigrum among the 75 species. The antitumor screening result were tabulated in Table II.

Purpose: To assess the clinical manifestations and multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) findings of afferent loop syndrome (ALS) and to determine the role of MDCT on treatment decisions. Materials and Methods: From January 2004 to December 2008, 1,100 patients had undergone gastroenterostomy reconstruction in our institution. Of these, 22 (2%) patients were diagnosed as ALS after surgery that included Roux-en-Y gastroenterotomy (n=9), Billroth-II gastrojejunostomy (n=7), and Whipple’s operation (n=6). Clinical manifestations and MDCT features of these patients were recorded and statistically analyzed. The presumed etiologies of obstruction shown on the MDCT were correlated with clinical information and confirmed by surgery or endoscopic biopsy. Results: The most common clinical symptom was acute abdominal pain, presenting in 18 patients (82%). We found that a fluid-filled C-shaped afferent loop in combination with valvulae conniventes projecting into the lumen was the most common MDCT features of ALS. Malignant causes of ALS, such as local recurrence and carcinomatosis, are the most common etiologies of obstruction. These etiologies and associated complications can be predicted 100% by MDCT. Conclusion: Our results suggest that MDCT is a reliable modality for assessing the etiologies of ALS and guiding treatment decisions.
Semiconducting Polymers with Nanocrystallites Interconnected via Boron-Doped Carbon Nanotubes

<P>Organic semiconductors are key building blocks for future electronic devices that require unprecedented properties of low-weight, flexibility, and portability. However, the low charge-carrier mobility and undesirable processing conditions limit their compatibility with low-cost, flexible, and printable electronics. Here, we present significantly enhanced field-effect mobility (μ<SUB>FET</SUB>) in semiconducting polymers mixed with boron-doped carbon nanotubes (B-CNTs). In contrast to undoped CNTs, which tend to form undesired aggregates, the B-CNTs exhibit an excellent dispersion in conjugated polymer matrices and improve the charge transport between polymer chains. Consequently, the B-CNT-mixed semiconducting polymers enable the fabrication of high-performance FETs on plastic substrates via a solution process; the μ<SUB>FET</SUB> of the resulting FETs reaches 7.2 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>–1</SUP> s<SUP>–1</SUP>, which is the highest value reported for a flexible FET based on a semiconducting polymer. <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Non‐aqueous sol‐gel routes involving the reaction of metal oxide precursors in organic solvents (e.g., benzyl alcohol) at moderate temperature and pressure, offer advantages such as high purity, high reproducibility and the ability to control the crystal growth without the need of using additional ligands. In this paper, a study carried out on a series of iron oxide/reduced graphene oxide composites is presented to elucidate a structure‐properties relationship leading to an improved electrochemical performance of such composites. Moreover, it is demonstrated that the easy production of the composites in a variety of temperature and composition ranges, allows a fine control over the final particles size, density and distribution. The materials obtained are remarkable in terms of the particle's size homogeneity and dispersion onto the reduced graphene oxide surface. Moreover, the synthesis method used to obtain the graphene oxide clearly affects the performances of the final composites through the control of the restacking of the reduced graphene oxide sheets. It is shown that a homogeneous and less defective reduced graphene oxide enables good electrochemical performances even at high current densities (over 500 mAh/g delivered at current densities as high as 1600 mA/g). The electrochemical properties of improved samples reach the best compromise between specific capacity, rate capability and cycle stability reported so far.</P>
