Objective: The study’s aim was to develop and standardize a Korean version of the University of California San Diego Performance-based Skills Assessment (K-UPSA), which is used to evaluate the daily living function of patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Study participants were 78 patients with schizophrenia and 27 demographically matched healthy controls. We evaluated the clinical states and cognitive functions to verify K-UPSA’s reliability and validity. For clinical states, the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, Clinical Global Impression-Schizophrenia scale, and Social and Occupational Functioning Assessment Scale and Schizophrenia Quality of Life Scale-fourth revision were used. The Schizophrenia Cognition Rating Scale, Short-form of Korean-Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test were used to assess cognitive function. Results: The K-UPSA had statistically significant reliability and validity. The K-UPSA has high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha, 0.837) and test-retest reliability (intra-class correlation coefficient, 0.381-0.792; p<0.001). The K-UPSA had significant discriminant validity (p<0.001). Significant correlations between the K-UPSA’s scores and most of the scales and tests listed above demonstrated K-UPSA’s concurrent validity (p<0.001). Conclusion: The K-UPSA is useful to evaluate the daily living function in Korean patients with schizophrenia.

( Yu Bin Lee ),( Hyun Jong Park ),( Ga Won Yim ),( Sung Hoon Kim ),( Sang Wun Kim ),( Young Tae Kim ),( Jae Wook Kim ),( Eun Ji Nam ) 대한산부인과학회 2012 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.98 No.-
The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), abdomino-pelvic computed tomography (CT), and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detection of early stage ovarian cancer. Medical record of 140 women who underwent PET/CT scanning with suspected early stage ovarian cancer (stage 1-2) from July 2005 to February 2012 was retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative CT, MRI, and PET/CT findings were compared with histopathologic results obtained from the surgery. The accuracy of each modality in detection of malignancy was evaluated by computing the relevant areas under a receiver operating characteristics(ROC) curve and comparisons of the area under the curve (AUC) according to the modality (MedCalc® version 9.6.3.0, Broekstraat 52, 9030 Mariakerke, Belgium). Histopathology showed 7 cases of benign tumors, 23 cases of borderline tumors, and malignant tumors in 110 cases. In detecting malignant lesions in the ovaries and the adnexa, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of PET/CT were higher than the corresponding values of CT or MRI. In discriminating between cases of benign/borderline and malignant, the accuracy of PET/CT (0.760) trended higher than that of CT or MRI (0.585). PET/CT is more accurate than abdomino-pelvic CT or pelvic MRI in diagnosis of early stage ovarian cancer and in differentiating between cases of benign/borderline and malignant ovarian tumors.
Study on fatigue experiment for transverse butt welds under 2G and 3G weld positions
Sung-Wook Kang,Yong-Man Park,Beom-Seon Jang,Yu-Chul Jeon,Seong-Min Kim 대한조선학회 2015 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.7 No.5
Although the transverse butt weld method with ceramic backing strip has been widely used in various industrial fields for its fabricational convenience, it is rarely used in offshore industries since the fatigue strength of the weld joint has not been proved sufficiently. This study conducted fatigue tests for series of butt weld specimens with horizontal (2G) and vertical (3G) welding positions in order to verify the fatigue strength compared to S-N curve by DNV (Det Norske Veritas), IIW (International Institute of Welding) and Eurocode 3. The difference of the 2G specimens and the 3G specimens are investigated in terms of angular distortion and the effect on the fatigue strength are analyzed.

This paper deals with the optimum design of the stator and rotor shape of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) that are used in applications for automobiles. IPMSMs have the following advantages: high power, high torque, high efficiency, etc. However, cogging torque which causes noise and vibrations is generated at the same time. The optimum design of shape of a IPMSM was carried out with the aim of reducing cogging torque. Six variables which affect to the performance of a IPMSM are chosen. The main effect variables were determined and applied to the response surface methodology (RSM). When compared to the initial model using the finite elements method (FEM), the optimum model highly reduces the cogging torque and improves the total harmonics distortion (THD) of the back-electro motive force (EMF). A prototype of the designed model was manufactured and experimented on to verify the feasibility of the IPMSM.
Optimum thickness of GaAs top layer in AlGaAs-based 850 nm VCSELs for 56 Gb/s PAM-4 applications
Yu, Shin-Wook,Kim, Sang-Bae Electronics and Telecommunications Research Instit 2021 ETRI Journal Vol.43 No.5
We studied the influence of GaAs top-layer thickness on the small-signal modulation response and 56 Gb/s four-level pulse-amplitude modulation eye quality of 850 nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs). We considered the proportionality of the gain-saturation coefficient to the photon lifetime. The simulation results that employed the transfer-matrix method and laser rate equations led to the conclusion that the proportionality should be considered for proper explanation of the experimental results. From the obtained optical eyes, we could determine an optimum thickness of the GaAs top layer that rendered the best eye quality of VCSEL. We also compared two results: one result with a fixed gain-saturation coefficient and the other that considered the proportionality. The former result with the constant gain-saturation coefficient demonstrated a better eye quality and a wider optimum range of the GaAs top-layer thickness because the resultant higher damping reduced the relaxation oscillation.

The methanolic extract of peanut root was consecutively partitioned with dichloromethane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), and n-butanol. Three compounds were isolated from the EtOAc-soluble fraction by the repeated silica gel column chromatography. These compounds were identified as sophoradiol, soyasapogenol B, and trans-resveratrol based on 1H- and 13C-NMR data. Sophoradiol and soyasapogenol B were isolated from the peanut for the first time. The trans-resveratrol content of the peanut root was 1.7 mg/g dry weight, which is more than 1,000 times higher than that of peanut.
Delayed Severe Hemobilia after Endoscopic Biliary Plastic Stent Insertion
Sung Hak Lee,Seung Goun Hong,Kyoung yong Lee,Pyung Kang Park,Sung Du Kim,Mahn Lee,Dong Wook Yu,Man Yong Hong 대한소화기내시경학회 2016 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.49 No.3
Hemobilia is a rare gastrointestinal bleeding, usually caused by injury to the bile duct. Hemobilia after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is generally self-limiting and patients will spontaneously recover, but some severe and fatal hemorrhages have been reported. ERCP-related bowel or bile duct perforation should be managed promptly, according to the type of injury and the status of the patient. We recently experienced a case of late-onset severe hemobilia in which the patient recovered after endoscopic biliary stent insertion. The problem was attributable to ERCP-related bile duct perforation during stone removal, approximately 5 weeks prior to the hemorrhagic episode. The removal of the stent was performed 10 days before the onset of hemobilia. The bleeding was successfully treated by two sessions of transarterial coil embolization.
