      • Coupling Model of Moisture-heat-stress Fields of Subgrade in Seasonal Frozen Soil Regions to Freeze-thaw Cycles

        This work addresses the freeze-thaw cycles of subgrade in seasonal permafrost region western Sichuan plateau. The mechanism of freeze-thaw cycle effect of seasonal frozen subgrade under freeze-thaw cycle is explained. The analysis results show that the variation tendency of the simulated results are in good agreement with that of the field measured results. The freezing depth of the slope foot is smaller than that of the natural ground and is larger than that of the roadbed, which is affected by the freeze-thaw cycle effect, the freezing depth of the roadbed is more easily and the freezing depth is further increased. During the freezing period, a freezing front quickly forms at the natural ground surface with the water below migrates to it. The variation of the saturation at the maximum freezing depth is affected not only by the ambient temperature of the surface boundary during the melting period, but also by the continuous downward flow of cold energy, which makes the ambient temperature down to the freezing temperature, resulting in a short period of freezing, and in consequence, the saturation decreases briefly. Under the same circumstances, the closer the freezing front is to the underground water level, the smaller the frost heave and thawing settlement rate are. The water-thermal coupling effect has a further affect on the frost heaving rate.

        A Study on the Application of Visual Thinking in Optimizing Chinese Character Writing Instruction for Elementary Students

        In traditional elementary school writing instruction, conventional methods often overemphasize formal regularity of writing, neglecting students’ in-depth understanding of character structure and personalized learning needs. This can, to some extent, suppress students’ interest in learning and the improvement of their writing abilities. This study delves into the significance and practical application of visual thinking in writing instruction, proposing an innovative teaching strategy aimed at stimulating students’ visual cognition through graphical teaching methods, deepening understanding of the structure of Chinese characters, and enhancing student engagement through contextualized and interactive learning activities. The research begins by analyzing the important role of visual thinking in strengthening memory and optimizing visual representation, clarifying its value in the reform of traditional writing instruction. Subsequently, the study explores the design of teaching activities based on visual thinking through practical cases, examining how to effectively integrate them with writing skill training, and using gamified learning and teaching feedback mechanisms to further motivate and engage students. A series of teaching experiments were conducted, gathering and analyzing data on students’ writing abilities, engagement, and satisfaction with learning. The results indicate that the visual thinking strategy not only increased students’ interest in writing but also significantly improved their writing quality and learning efficiency. Compared with traditional teaching methods, the experimental group using visual thinking strategies showed significant advantages in writing skills, Chinese character memory, and creative expression. These outcomes not only confirm the effectiveness of visual thinking in Chinese character writing instruction but also provide new perspectives and methods for future language teaching. Additionally, the study explores the correlation between visual thinking and student motivation and interest in learning, as well as its potential role in promoting independent learning.

        Biosorption Behaviors of Biosorbents Based on Microorganisms Immobilized by Ca-alginate for Removing Lead (II) from Aqueous Solution

        Multiple microorganisms directly or treated with NaOH were immobilized by using Ca-alginate embedding to form biosorbents I and II, successively. The biosorption behaviors of biosorbents I and II for Pb(II)from aqueous solution were investigated in a batch system. Effects of solution pH, initial metal concentration, biosorbent dosage, contact time, temperature, and ionic strength on the adsorption process were considered to study the biosorption equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics, and mechanism of Pb(II) ion adsorption on the 2 types of biosorbents. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of biosorbent II for Pb(II) was higher than that of biosorbent I, and biosorbent II had a faster adsorption rate for Pb(II) ions. According to FTIR spectra, the carboxyl,amine, and hydroxyl groups on the biomass surface were involved in the biosorption of Pb(II). EDX analysis showed that ion exchange may be involved in the biosorption process, and the morphology observed by SEM micrograph of biosorbent I was completely different from that of biosorbent II. Desorption and regeneration experiments showed that the 2 types of biosorbents could be reused for 3 biosorption-desorption cycles without significant loss of their initial biosorption capacities.

        Placement of Parameter Server in Wide Area Network Topology for Geo-Distributed Machine Learning

        Machine learning (ML) is extensively used in a widerange of real-world applications that require data all aroundworld to pursue high accuracy of a global model. Unfortunately,it is impossible to transmit all gathered raw data to a centraldata center for training due to data privacy, data sovereigntyand high communication cost. This brings the idea of geo-distributed machine learning (Geo-DML), which completes thetraining of the global ML model across multiple data centerswith the bottleneck of high communication cost over the limitedwide area networks (WAN) bandwidth. In this paper, we studyon the problem of parameter server (PS) placement in PSarchitecture for communication efficiency of Geo-DML. Ouroptimization aims to select an appropriate data center as thePS for global training algorithm based on the communicationcost. We prove the PS placement problem is NP-hard. Further,we develop an approximation algorithm to solve the problemusing the randomized rounding method. In order to validate theperformance of our proposed algorithm, we conduct large-scalesimulations, and the simulation results on two typical carriernetwork topologies show that our proposed algorithm can reducethe communication cost up to 61.78% over B4 topology and21.78% over Internet2 network topology.

        Electrospun Ag‑Doped SnO2 Hollow Nanofbers with High Antibacterial Activity

        With the continuous improvement in medical science in modern times, the spread of bacterial infection has become a matterof global concern. Therefore, the search for biological medical materials with antibacterial function has become a focusof intense research. In this work, pure SnO2 and Ag-doped SnO2 hollow nanofbers were fabricated by a combination of anelectrospinning method and a calcination procedure, and the Effects of the doped Ag on antibacterial activity and catalyticantibacterial activity were subsequently investigated. Through the process of high-temperature calcination, a high heatingrate would lead to the formation of a hollow tubular structure in SnO2 fbers, and Ag2O would be reduced to Ag0by a facileprocess with appropriate thermal treatment. Additionally, the existence of SnO2 as a tetragonal rutile structure was confrmed. On the basis of pure SnO2, doping with Ag greatly improved the antibacterial activity and catalytic antibacterial activity ofhollow nanofbers. The formation mechanism and the antibacterial mechanism of pure SnO2 and Ag-doped hollow nanofbersare also discussed. This study has broad application prospects for biological medicine.

        We propose an improved selective randomized load balancing (ISRLB) robust scheme under the hose uncertainty model for a special double-hop routing network architecture. The ISRLB architecture maintains the resilience properties of Valiant’s load balancing and reduces the network cost/propagation delay in all other robust routing schemes.

        Research and development of a novel pneumatic-electric hybrid actuator

        A novel pneumatic-electric hybrid actuator is studied and developed to enable precise positioning within a cylinder stroke in industrial automation. The proposed actuator will also allow engineers to overcome the defects of bias torque and structural coupling in the parallel type of pneumatic-electric hybrid actuators. The novel hybrid actuator consists of a coaxial cylinder layout, the motor lead screw pair, and the position sensor; a serial driving pattern is applied. A special reconfigurable positioning structure is designed for both the fixed and moving module; therefore, a decoupling motion can be achieved for the fast pneumatic motion and the electric precise fine-tuning motion without interference. In this paper, the authors presented the structure of this novel pneumatic-electric hybrid actuator and the accompanying mathematical model for pneumatic-electrical driving. Additionally, the control strategy with proportional-fuzzy mode and the subsection frequency control mode are presented. Experimental results show that the pneumatic-electric hybrid actuator has satisfying motion characteristics, including high speed, low overshoot, and small load sensitivity. Its positioning accuracy is ±0.01 mm, with a positioning time within 2 s, which is better than that of current pneumatic localizable actuators and pneumatic-electric hybrid actuators.

        Identification and Characterization of CMTM4, a Novel Gene with Inhibitory Effects on HeLa Cell Growth through Inducing G2/M Phase Accumulation

        Human CMTM is a novel gene family consisting of CKLF and CMTM1-8. CMTM4 is the most conserved gene and has three RNA splicing forms designated as CMTM4-v1, -v2 and -v3, but in many types of tissue and cell lines, only CMTM4-v1 and -v2 could be detected. CMTM4-v2 is the full length cDNA product, which has been highly conserved during e volution. CMTM4-v1 and -v2 a re broadly expressed in normal types of tissue. They are distributed on the cell membrane and across the cytoplasm in a speckled pattern. Overexpression of CMTM4-v1 and -v2 can inhibit HeLa cell growth via G2/M phase accumulation without inducing apoptosis. Therefore, CMTM4 might be an important gene involved in cell growth and cell cycle regulation.
